In many everyday categories (sets, spaces, modules, ...) objects can be both added and multiplied. The arithmetic of such objects is a challenge because there is usually no subtraction. We prove a family of cases of the following principle: if an arithmetic statement about the objects can be proved by pretending that they are complex numbers, then there also exists an honest proof.
We show how the theory of (dual) strongly relative Rickart objects may be employed in order to study strongly relative regular objects and (dual) strongly relative Baer objects in abelian categories. For each of them, we prove general properties, we analyze the behaviour with respect to (co)products, and we study the transfer via functors. We also give applications to Grothendieck categories, (graded) module categories and comodule categories.

We introduce (dual) relative CS-Rickart objects in abelian categories, as common generalizations of (dual) relative Rickart objects and extending (lifting) objects. We study direct summands and (co)products of (dual) relative CS-Rickart objects as well as classes all of whose objects are (dual) self-CS-Rickart. Applications are given to Grothendieck categories and, in particular, to module and comodule categories.
We investigate relative CS-Baer objects in abelian categories in relationship with other relevant classes of objects such as relative Baer objects, extending objects, objects having certain summand intersection properties and relative CS-Rickart objects. Dual results are automatically obtained by applying the duality principle in abelian categories. We also study direct sums of relative CS-Baer objects, and we determine the complete structure of dual self-CS-Baer modules over Dedekind domains. Further applications are given to module categories.
We introduce and investigate (dual) relative split objects with respect to a fully invariant short exact sequence in abelian categories. We compare them with (dual) relative Rickart objects, and we study their behaviour with respect to direct sums and classes all of whose objects are (dual) relative split. We also introduce and study (dual) strongly relative split objects. Applications are given to Grothendieck categories, module and comodule categories.
We continue our study of relatively divisible and relatively flat objects in exact categories in the sense of Quillen with several applications to exact structures on finitely accessible additive categories and module categories. We derive consequences for exact structures generated by the simple modules and the modules with zero Jacobson radical.
We introduce (dual) strongly relative CS-Rickart objects in abelian categories, as common generalizations of (dual) strongly relative Rickart objects and strongly extending (lifting) objects. We give general properties, and we study direct summands, (co)products of (dual) strongly relative CS-Rickart objects and classes all of whose objects are (dual) strongly self-CS-Rickart.
We study singularity categories through Gorenstein objects in triangulated categories and silting theory. Let $ω$ be a semi-selforthogonal (or presilting) subcategory of a triangulated category $\mathcal{T}$. We introduce the notion of $ω$-Gorenstein objects, which is far extended version of Gorenstein projective modules and Gorenstein injective modules in triangulated categories. We prove that the stable category $\underline{\mathcal{G}_ω}$, where $\mathcal{G}_ω$ is the subcategory of all $ω$-Gorenstein objects, is a triangulated category and it is, under some conditions, triangle equivalent …
In an arbitrary Grothendieck category, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the class of $\text{FP}_n$-injective objects to be a torsion class. By doing so, we propose a notion of $n$-hereditary categories. We also define and study the class of $\text{FP}_n$-flat objects in Grothendieck categories with a generating set of small projective objects, and provide several equivalent conditions for this class to be torsion-free. In the end, we present several applications and examples of $n$-hereditary categories in the contexts modules over a ring, chain complexes of modules and categori…
We give a result of Auslander-Ringel-Tachikawa type for Gorenstein-projective modules over a complete Gorenstein order. In particular, we prove that a complete Gorenstein order is of finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type if and only if every indecomposable pure-injective object in the stable category of Gorenstein-projective modules is compact.
We introduce and study relatively divisible and relatively flat objects in exact categories in the sense of Quillen. For every relative cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B})$ in an exact category $\mathcal{C}$, $\mathcal{A}$ coincides with the class of relatively flat objects of $\mathcal{C}$ for some relative projectively generated exact structure, while $\mathcal{B}$ coincides with the class of relatively divisible objects of $\mathcal{C}$ for some relative injectively generated exact structure. We exhibit Galois connections between relative cotorsion pairs, relative projectively generat…
We construct exponential objects in categories of generalized uniform hypergraphs and use embeddings induced by nerve-realization adjunctions to show why conventional categories of graphs and hypergraphs do not have exponential objects.
We study the transfer of (dual) relative Rickart properties via functors between abelian categories, and we deduce the transfer of (dual) relative Baer property. We also give applications to Grothendieck categories, comodule categories and (graded) module categories, with emphasis on endomorphism rings.
The aim of the paper is to describe autocompact objects in Ab5-categories, i.e. objects in cocomplete abelian categories with exactness preserving filtered colimits of exact sequences, whose covariant Hom-functor commutes with copowers of the object itself. A characterization of non-autocompact object is given, a general criterion of autocompactness of an object via the structure of its endomorphism ring is presented and a criterion of autocompactness of products is proven.
We study cocompleteness, co-wellpoweredness and generators in the centralizer category of an object or morphism in a monoidal category, and the center or the weak center of a monoidal category. We explicitly give some answers for when colimits, cocompleteness, co-wellpoweredness and generators in these monoidal categories can be inherited from their base monidal categories. Most importantly, we investigate cofree objects of comonoids in these monoidal categories.
We relativize the notion of a compact object in an abelian category with respect to a fixed subclass of objects. We show that the standard closure properties persist to hold in this case. Furthermore, we describe categorical and set-theoretical conditions under which all products of compact objects remain compact.
In this paper, we study properties of maps between fibrant objects in model categories. We give a characterization of weak equivalences between fibrant object. If every object of a model category is fibrant, then we give a simple description of a set of generating cofibrations. We show that to construct such model structure it is enough to check some relatively simple conditions.
In this paper, we study the relationship of Gorenstein projective objects among three Abelian categories in a recollement. As an application, we introduce the relation of $n$-Gorenstein tilting modules (and Gorenstein syzygy modules) in three Abelian categories. For a recollement of Abelian categories, we show that a resolving subcategory induce two resolving subcategories. On the other hand, we also prove that two resolving subcategories can induce a resolving subcategory. Moreover, we give the size relationship between the relative global dimensions of three Abelian categories.
We give a complete classification of all algebras appearing as endomorphism algebras of maximal rigid objects in standard 2-Calabi-Yau categories of finite type. Such categories are equivalent to certain orbit categories of derived categories of Dynkin algebras. It turns out that with one exception, all the algebras that occur are $2$-Calabi-Yau-tilted, and therefore appear in an earlier classification by Bertani-Økland and Oppermann. We explain this phenomenon by investigating the subcategories generated by rigid objects in standard 2-Calabi-Yau categories of finite type.
Let $k$ be a field. We show that locally presentable, $k$-linear categories $\mathcal{C}$ dualizable in the sense that the identity functor can be recovered as $\coprod_i x_i\otimes f_i$ for objects $x_i\in \mathcal{C}$ and left adjoints $f_i$ from $\mathcal{C}$ to $\mathrm{Vect}_k$ are products of copies of $\mathrm{Vect}_k$. This partially confirms a conjecture by Brandenburg, the author and T. Johnson-Freyd. Motivated by this, we also characterize the Grothendieck categories containing an object $x$ with the property that every object is a copower of $x$: they are precisely the categories o…
In previous work, based on work of Zwara and Yoshino, we defined and studied degenerations of objects in triangulated categories analogous to degeneration of modules. In triangulated categories it is surprising that the zero object may degenerate. We study this systematically. In particular we show that the degeneration of the zero object actually induces all other degenerations by homotopy pullback, that degeneration of $0$ is closely linked, but not equivalent, to having zero image in the Grothendieck group.
In this paper, the categorial property of compactness of an object, i. e. commuting of the corresponding $\Hom$ functor with coproducts, is studied in categories of $S$-acts and the corresponding structural properties of compact $S$-acts are shown. In order to establish a general context and to unify the approach to both of the most important categories of $S$-acts, the notion of a concrete category with unique decomposition of objects is introduced and studied.
Tate objects have been studied by many authors. They allow us to deal with infinite dimensional spaces by identifying some more structure. In this article, we set up the theory of Tate objects in stable $(\infty,1)$-categories, while the literature only treats with exact categories. We will prove the main properties expected from Tate objects. This new setting includes several useful examples: Tate objects in the category of spectra for instance, or in the derived category of a derived algebraic object -- which can be thought as structured infinite dimensional vector bundle in derived setting.
In this note we remark on the problem of equality of objects in categories formalized in Martin-Löf's constructive type theory. A standard notion of category in this system is E-category, where no such equality is specified. The main observation here is that there is no general extension of E-categories to categories with equality on objects, unless the principle Uniqueness of Identity Proofs (UIP) holds. We also introduce the notion of an H-category, a variant of category with equality on objects, which makes it easy to compare to the notion of univalent category proposed for Univalent Type T…
In this paper, we study a close relationship between relative cluster tilting theory in extriangulated categories and tau-tilting theory in module categories. Our main results show that relative rigid objects are in bijection with $τ$-rigid pairs, and also relative maximal rigid objects with support tau-tilting pairs under some assumptions. These results generalize their work by Adachi-Iyama-Reiten, Yang-Zhu and Fu-Geng-Liu. Finally, we introduce mutation of relative maximal rigid objects and show that any basic relative almost maximal rigid object has exactly two non-isomorphic indecomposable…
We define the Hochschild complex and cohomology of a ring object in a monoidal category enriched over abelian groups. We interpret the cohomology groups and prove that the cohomology ring is graded-commutative.
We introduce a new method to construct a Grothendieck category from a given colored quiver. This is a variant of the construction used to prove that every partially ordered set arises as the atom spectrum of a Grothendieck category. Using the new method, we prove that for every finite partially ordered set, there exists a locally noetherian Grothendieck category such that every nonzero object contains a compressible subobject and its atom spectrum is isomorphic to the given partially ordered set.
We introduce the notions of proto-complete, complete, complete* and strong-complete objects in pointed categories. We show under mild conditions on a pointed exact protomodular category that every proto-complete (respectively complete) object is the product of an abelian proto-complete (respectively complete) object and a strong-complete object. This together with the observation that the trivial group is the only abelian complete group recovers a theorem of Baer classifying complete groups. In addition we generalize several theorems about groups (subgroups) with trivial center (respectively, …
The main objective of this paper is to construct a symmetric monoidal closed model category of coherently commutative monoidal quasi-categories. We construct another model category structure whose fibrant objects are (essentially) those coCartesian fibrations which represent objects that are known as symmetric monoidal quasi-categories in the literature. We go on to establish a Quillen equivalence between the two model categories.
Krull-Schmidt categories are additive categories such that each object decomposes into a finite direct sum of indecomposable objects having local endomorphism rings. We provide a self-contained introduction which is based on the concept of a projective cover.
In this article, we study the geometric realizations of $m$-cluster categories of Dynkin types A, D, $\tilde{A}$ and $\tilde{D}$. We show, in those four cases, that there is a bijection between $(m+2)$-angulations and isoclasses of basic $m$-cluster tilting objects. Under these bijections, flips of $(m+2)$-angulations correspond to mutations of $m$-cluster tilting objects. Our strategy consists in showing that certain Iyama-Yoshino reductions of the $m$-cluster categories under consideration can be described in terms of cutting along an arc the corresponding geometric realizations. This allows…
We provide various ways to characterise $Σ$-pure-injective objects in a compactly generated triangulated category. These characterisations mimic analogous well-known results from the model theory of modules. The proof involves two approaches. In the first approach we adapt arguments from the module-theoretic setting. Here the one-sorted language of modules over a fixed ring is replaced with a canonical multi-sorted language, whose sorts are given by compact objects. Throughout we use a variation of the Yoneda embedding, called the resticted Yoneda functor, which associates a multi-sorted struc…
In this paper we give a complete classification of unitary fusion categories $\otimes$-generated by an object of dimension $\frac{1 + \sqrt{5}}{2}$. We show that all such categories arise as certain wreath products of either the Fibonacci category, or of the dual even part of the $2D2$ subfactor. As a by-product of proving our main classification result we produce a classification of finite unitarizable quotients of $\operatorname{Fib}^{*N}$ satisfying a certain symmetry condition.
Consider a 2-Calabi--Yau triangulated category with a Bridgeland stability condition. We devise an effective procedure to reduce the phase spread of an object by applying spherical twists. Using this, we give new proofs of the following theorems for 2-Calabi--Yau categories associated to ADE quivers: (1) all spherical objects lie in a single orbit of the braid group, and (2) the space of Bridgeland stability conditions is connected.
