We investigate the continuity properties of the solution operator to the wave map system from the flat Minkowski space to a general nonflat target of arbitrary dimension, and we prove by an explicit class of counterexamples that this map is not uniformly continuous in the critical norms on any neighbourhood of zero.
We establish a Riesz potential criterion for Lebesgue continuity points of functions of bounded $\mathbb{A}$-variation, where $\mathbb{A}$ is a $\mathbb{C}$-elliptic differential operator of arbitrary order. This result might even be of interest for classical functions of bounded variation.
In this paper we give sufficient conditions to obtain continuity results of solutions for the so called {\em $ϕ-$Laplacian} $Δ_ϕ$ with respect to domain perturbations. We point out that this kind of results can be extended to a more general class of operators including, for instance, nonlocal nonstandard growth type operators.
We prove that for elliptic and canceling linear differential operators $\mathbb{B}$ of order $n$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$, continuity of a map $u$ can be inferred from the fact that $\mathbb{B} u$ is a measure. We also prove strict continuity of the embedding of the space $\mathrm{BV}^{\mathbb{B}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ of functions of bounded $\mathbb{B}$-variation into the space of continuous functions vanishing at infinity.
Mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces found their place in the study of some questions in the theory of partial differential equations, as can be seen from recent interest in the continuity of certain classes of pseudodifferential operators on these spaces. In this paper, we use some recent advances in the pseudodifferential calculus for nonsmooth symbols to prove the boundedness of pseudodifferential operators with such symbols on mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces.
In this note, we study the mapping properties of global pseudo-differential operators with symbols in Ruzhansky-Turunen classes on Besov spaces $B^{s}_{\infty,\infty}(G).$ The considered classes satisfy Fefferman type conditions of limited regularity.
The paper is pertaining to the spectral theory of operators and boundary value problems for differential equations on manifolds. Eigenvalues of such problems are studied as functionals on the space of domains. Resolvent continuity of the corresponding operators is established under domain deformation and estimates of continuity moduli of their eigenvalues $\slash$ eigenfunctions are obtained provided the boundary of nonperturbed domain is locally represented as a graph of some continuous function and domain deformation is measured with respect to the Hausdorff--Pompeiu metric.
In this note we address the continuity of strongly singular Calderón-Zygmund operators on Hardy-Morrey spaces $\mathcal{HM}_{q}^λ(\mathbb{R}^n)$, assuming weaker integral conditions on the associated kernel. Important examples that falls into this scope are pseudodifferential operators on the Hörmander classes $OpS^{m}_{σ,μ}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with $0<σ\leq 1$, $0 \leq μ<1$, $μ\leq σ$ and $m\leq -n(1-σ)/2$.
We show the continuity of the flow map for quasilinear symmetric hyperbolic systems with general right--hand sides in different functional setting, including weighted Sobolev spaces $H_{s,δ}$. An essential tool to achieve the continuity of the flow map is a low regularity energy estimate. We then apply these results to the Euler--Poisson system which describes various systems of physical interests.
In this paper, we establish gradient continuity for solutions to \[ (\partial_t - \operatorname{div}(A(x) \nabla u))^s =f,\ s \in (1/2, 1), \] when $f$ belongs to the scaling critical function space $L(\frac{n+2}{2s-1}, 1)$. Our main results Theorems 1.1 and 1.2 can be seen as a nonlocal generalization of a well-known result of Stein in the context of fractional heat type operators and sharpens some of the previous gradient continuity results which deals with $f$ in subcritical spaces. Our proof is based on an appropriate adaptation of compactness arguments, which has its roots in a fundamenta…
We study the incompressible Euler equations in the $α$-modulation $M^{s,α}_{p,q}$ and Hölder $C^{1+σ}$ spaces on the plane. We show that for these spaces the associated data-to-solution map is not continuous on bounded sets.
This paper deals with two separate but related results. First we consider weak solutions to a parabolic operator with Hörmander vector fields. Adapting the iteration scheme of Jürgen Moser for elliptic and parabolic equations in $\mathbb{R}^n$ we show a parabolic Harnack inequality. Then, after proving the Harnack inequality for weak solutions to equations of the form $u_t = \sum X_i (a_{ij} X_j u)$ we use this to show Hölder continuity. We assume the coefficients are bounded and elliptic. The iteration scheme is a tool that may be adapted to many settings and we extend this to nonlinear parab…
This paper establishes the continuity of the path delay operators for dynamic network loading (DNL) problems based on the Lighthill-Whitham-Richards model, which explicitly capture vehicle spillback. The DNL describes and predicts the spatial-temporal evolution of traffic flow and congestion on a network that is consistent with established route and departure time choices of travelers. The LWR-based DNL model is first formulated as a system of partial differential algebraic equations (PDAEs). We then investigate the continuous dependence of merge and diverge junction models with respect to the…
In this paper, we prove gradient continuity estimates for viscosity solutions to $Δ_{p}^N u- u_t= f$ in terms of the scaling critical $L(n+2,1 )$ norm of $f$, where $Δ_{p}^N$ is the game theoretic normalized $p-$Laplacian operator defined in (1.2) below. Our main result, Theorem 2.5 constitutes borderline gradient continuity estimate for $u$ in terms of the modified parabolic Riesz potential $\mathbf{P}^{f}_{n+1}$ as defined in (2.8) below. Moreover, for $f \in L^{m}$ with $m>n+2$, we also obtain Hölder continuity of the spatial gradient of the solution $u$, see Theorem 2.6 below. This improve…
It is shown that the data to solution map for the hyperelastic rod equation is Hölder continuous from bounded sets of Sobolev spaces with exponent $s > 3/2$ measured in a weaker Sobolev norm with index $r < s$ in both the periodic and non-periodic cases. The proof is based on energy estimates coupled with a delicate commutator estimate and multiplier estimate.
In this paper we show that the floow map of the Benjamin-Ono equation on the line is weakly continuous in L2(R), using "local smoothing" estimates. L2(R) is believed to be a borderline space for the local well-posedness theory of this equation. In the periodic case, Molinet [27] has recently proved that the flow map of the Benjamin-Ono equation is not weakly continuous in L2(T). Our results are in line with previous work on the cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation, where Goubet and Molinet [11] showed weak continuity in L2(R) and Molinet [28] showed lack of weak continuity in L2(T).
In this paper, we consider the Sub-Laplacian L which consists of sum of squares of smooth vector fields that satisfy Hormander's finite rank condition. We study the Dirichlet problem for this operator on domains that satisfy certain geometric conditions. For such domains, several key results are established. These results consist of 1) A reversed Holder inequality for the Poisson kernel 2) Harmonic measure (corresponding to L) and surface measure (as well as the H-Perimeter measure) are mutually absolutely continuous 3) A representation (hence solvability of the Dirichlet problem) for solution…
We consider the higher order Schrödinger operator $H=(-Δ)^m+V(x)$ in $n$ dimensions with real-valued potential $V$ when $n>2m$, $m\in \mathbb N$, $m>1$. When $n$ is odd, we prove that the wave operators extend to bounded operators on $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ for all $1\leq p\leq\infty$ under $n$ and $m$ dependent conditions on the potential analogous to the case when $m=1$. Further, if $V$ is small in certain norms, that depend $n$ and $m$, the wave operators are bounded on the same range for even $n$. We further show that if the smallness assumption is removed in even dimensions the wave operators …
In this paper we prove that the fifth order equation arising from the KdV hierarchy $ \partial_tu + \partial_x^5u + c_1\partial_x u\partial_x^2u + c_2u\partial_x^3u = 0 $ is locally well-posed in $ H^s(\mathbb{R}) $ for $ s> 5/2. Also, we prove the solution map of the equation is not uniformly continuous for $s>0$.
We completely characterize the boundedness on $L^p$ spaces and on Wiener amalgam spaces of the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) and of a special class of pseudodifferential operators, called localization operators. Precisely, a well-known STFT boundedness result on $L^p$ spaces is proved to be sharp. Then, sufficient conditions for the STFT to be bounded on the Wiener amalgam spaces $W(L^p,L^q)$ are given and their sharpness is shown. Localization operators are treated similarly. Using different techniques from those employed in the literature, we relax the known sufficient boundedness cond…
Using concentration-compactness arguments we prove a variant of the Brezis-Lieb-Lemma under weaker assumptions on the nonlinearity than known before. An intermediate result on the uniform continuity of superposition operators in Sobolev space is of independent interest.
For Besov spaces $B^s_{p,r}(\rr)$ with $s>\max\{ 2 + \frac1p , \frac52\} $, $p \in (1,\infty]$ and $r \in [1 , \infty)$, it is proved that the data-to-solution map for the FORQ equation is not uniformly continuous from $B^s_{p,r}(\rr)$ to $C([0,T]; B^s_{p,r}(\rr))$. The proof of non-uniform dependence is based on approximate solutions and the Littlewood-Paley decomposition.

In this paper we study a question related to the continuity of maximal operators of convolution type acting on $W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})$. We prove that the map $u\mapsto (u^{*})'$ is continuous from $W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})$ to $L^{1}(\mathbb{R})$, where $u^{*}$ is the maximal function associated to the Poisson kernel, the Heat kernel or a family of kernels related to the fractional Laplacian. This is the first result of this type for a centered maximal operator.
We illustrate the composition properties for an extended family of SG Fourier integral operators. We prove continuity results for operators in this class with respect to $L^2$ and weighted modulation spaces, and discuss continuity on $\mathscr{S}$, $\mathscr{S}^\prime$ and on weighted Sobolev spaces. We study mapping properties of global wave-front sets under the action of these Fourier integral operators. We extend classical results to more general situations. For example, there are no requirements of homogeneity for the phase functions. Finally, we apply our results to the study of of the pr…
We show that the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 3$, with a periodic smooth Riemannian metric, whose conformal multiple has a product structure with one Euclidean direction, and with a periodic electric potential in $L^{n/2}_{\text{loc}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, is purely absolutely continuous. Previously known results in the case of a general metric are obtained in [12], see also [8], under the assumption that the metric, as well as the potential, are reflection symmetric.
We present a new method for constructing $C_0$-semigroups for which properties of the resolvent of the generator and continuity properties of the semigroup in the operator-norm topology are controlled simultaneously. It allows us to show that a) there exists a $C_0$-semigroup which is continuous in the operator-norm topology for no $t \in [0,1]$ such that the resolvent of its generator has a logarithmic decay at infinity along vertical lines; b) there exists a $C_0$-semigroup which is continuous in the operator-norm topology for no $t \in \mathbb R_+$ such that the resolvent of its generator h…
The paper contains a brief description of a simplified version of A. Sobolev's proof of absolute continuity of spectra of periodic magnetic Schrödinger operators. This approach is applicable to all periodic elliptic operators known to be of interest for math physics (including Maxwell), and in all these cases leads to the same model problem of complex analysis. The full account of this approach will be provided elsewhere.

We consider a generalization of wave maps based on the Adkins-Nappi model of nuclear physics. In particular, we show that solutions to this equation remain continuous at the origin, which is a first step towards establishing a regularity theory for this equation.
We prove that the spectrum of a Schrodinger operator that is periodic in certain directions and super-exponentially decaying in the others is purely absolutely continuous.
The Heston stochastic volatility process, which is widely used as an asset price model in mathematical finance, is a paradigm for a degenerate diffusion process where the degeneracy in the diffusion coefficient is proportional to the square root of the distance to the boundary of the half-plane. The generator of this process with killing, called the elliptic Heston operator, is a second-order, degenerate-elliptic partial differential operator whose coefficients have linear growth in the spatial variables and where the degeneracy in the operator symbol is proportional to the distance to the bou…
On a smooth complete Riemannian spin manifold with smooth compact boundary, we demonstrate that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator $\mathrm{D}_{\mathcal B}$ in $\mathrm{L}^{2}$ depends Riesz continuously on $\mathrm{L}^{\infty}$ perturbations of local boundary conditions ${\mathcal B}$. The Lipschitz bound for the map ${\mathcal B} \to {\mathrm{D}}_{\mathcal B}(1 + {\mathrm{D}}_{\mathcal B}^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ depends on Lipschitz smoothness and ellipticity of ${\mathcal B}$ and bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. More generally, we …
In this paper we address the $W^{1,1}$-continuity of several maximal operators at the gradient level. A key idea in our global strategy is the decomposition of a maximal operator, with the absence of strict local maxima in the disconnecting set, into "lateral" maximal operators with good monotonicity and convergence properties. This construction is inspired in the classical sunrise lemma in harmonic analysis. A model case for our sunrise strategy considers the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $\widetilde{M}$ acting on $W^{1,1}_{\rm rad}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, the subspace of $W^{1,1}(\mat…
We study the dependence of the continuity constants for the regularized Poincaré and Bogovski\uı integral operators acting on differential forms defined on a domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We, in particular, study the dependence of such constants on certain geometric characteristics of the domain when these operators are considered as mappings from (a subset of) $L^2(Ω,Λ^\ell)$ to $H^1(Ω,Λ^{\ell-1})$, $\ell \in \{1, \ldots, n\}$. For domains $Ω$ that are star shaped with respect to a ball $B$ we study the dependence of the constants on the ratio $diam(Ω)/diam(B)$. A program on how to develop es…
We define and examine certain matrix-valued multiplicative functionals with local Kato potential terms and use probabilistic techniques to prove that the semigroups of the corresponding partial differential operators with matrix-valued coefficients are spatially continuous and have a jointly continuous integral kernel. These partial differential operators include Yang-Mills type Hamiltonians and Pauli type Hamiltonians, with "electrical" potentials that are elements of the matrix-valued local Kato class.
We prove that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator ${\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}$ in ${\mathrm L}^2$ depends Riesz continuously on ${\mathrm L}^{\infty}$ perturbations of complete metrics ${\mathrm g}$ on a smooth manifold. The Lipschitz bound for the map ${\mathrm g} \to {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}(1 + {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ depends on bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. Our proof uses harmonic analysis techniques related to Calderón's first commutator and the Kato square root problem. We also show perturbation results for…
