In this paper, we consider the Sub-Laplacian L which consists of sum of squares of smooth vector fields that satisfy Hormander's finite rank condition. We study the Dirichlet problem for this operator on domains that satisfy certain geometric conditions. For such domains, several key results are established. These results consist of 1) A reversed Holder inequality for the Poisson kernel 2) Harmonic measure (corresponding to L) and surface measure (as well as the H-Perimeter measure) are mutually absolutely continuous 3) A representation (hence solvability of the Dirichlet problem) for solutions to the Dirichlet problem.
This paper deals with two separate but related results. First we consider weak solutions to a parabolic operator with Hörmander vector fields. Adapting the iteration scheme of Jürgen Moser for elliptic and parabolic equations in $\mathbb{R}^n$ we show a parabolic Harnack inequality. Then, after proving the Harnack inequality for weak solutions to equations of the form $u_t = \sum X_i (a_{ij} X_j u)$ we use this to show Hölder continuity. We assume the coefficients are bounded and elliptic. The iteration scheme is a tool that may be adapted to many settings and we extend this to nonlinear parab…
In this work we obtain continuity results on Hölder spaces for operators belonging to a Weyl-Hörmander calculus for metrics such that the class of the associated operators contains, in particular, certain hypoelliptic laplacians. With our results we recover some historical Hölder boundedness theorems (see R. Beals \cite{Be,Be2}). The action of (periodic) Ruzhansky-Turunen classes of pseudo-differential operators on Hölder spaces also will be investigated.
In this paper, we characterize the symbol in Hörmander symbol class $S^{m}_{ρ,δ} (m\in R, ρ,δ\geq 0)$ by its wavelet coefficients. Consequently, we analyse the kernel-distribution property for the symbol in the symbol class $S^{m}_{ρ,δ} (m\in R, ρ>0, δ\geq 0)$ which is more general than known results; for non-regular symbol operators, we establish sharp $L^{2}$-continuity which is better than Calderón and Vaillancourt's result, and establish $L^{p} (1\leq p\leq\infty)$ continuity which is new and sharp. Our new idea is to analyse the symbol operators in phase space with relative wavelets, and …
We consider a heat-type operator L structured on the left invariant 1-homogeneous vector fields which are generators of a Carnot group, multiplied by a uniformly positive matrix of bounded measurable coefficients depending only on time. We prove that if Lu is smooth with respect to the space variables, the same is true for u, with quantitative regularity estimates in the scale of Sobolev spaces defined by right invariant vector fields. Moreover, the solution and its space derivatives satisfy a 1/2-Hölder continuity estimate with respect to time. The result is proved both for weak solutions and…
In this note we address the continuity of strongly singular Calderón-Zygmund operators on Hardy-Morrey spaces $\mathcal{HM}_{q}^λ(\mathbb{R}^n)$, assuming weaker integral conditions on the associated kernel. Important examples that falls into this scope are pseudodifferential operators on the Hörmander classes $OpS^{m}_{σ,μ}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with $0<σ\leq 1$, $0 \leq μ<1$, $μ\leq σ$ and $m\leq -n(1-σ)/2$.
We show that, for disjoint domains in the Euclidean space whose boundaries satisfy a non-degeneracy condition, mutual absolute continuity of their harmonic measures implies absolute continuity with respect to surface measure and rectifiability in the intersection of their boundaries.
In this paper we study the boundary behavior of solutions of a divergence-form subelliptic heat equation in a time-varying domain Ωin R^{n+1}, structured on a set of vector fields X = (X_1, ... X_m) with smooth coefficients satisfying Hörmander's finite rank condition. Assuming that Ωis an X-NTA domain, we first prove a Dahlberg type estimate comparing the X-caloric measure of Ωand the Green function of the subelliptic heat operator. We then prove a backward Harnack inequality, the doubling property for the X-caloric measure of Ω, the Hölder continuity at the boundary for quotients of solution…
In this note we investigate some conditions of Hörmander-Mihlin type in order to assure the $L^\infty$-${\textnormal{BMO}}$ boundedness for pseudo-multipliers of the harmonic oscillator. The $\textnormal{H}^1$-$L^1$ continuity for Hermite multipliers also is investigated. The final version of this paper will appear in Rev. Colombiana Mat.
This is a continuation of recent work on the general definition of pseudo-differential operators of type $1,1$, in Hörmander's sense. Continuity in $L_p$-Sobolev spaces and Hölder--Zygmund spaces, and more generally in Besov and Lizorkin--Triebel spaces, is proved for positive smoothness, with extension to arbitrary smoothness for operators in the self-adjoint subclass. As a main tool the paradifferential decomposition is used for type $1,1$-operators in combination with the Spectral Support Rule for pseudo-differential operators and pointwise estimates in terms of maximal functions of Peetre-…
This paper finishes the goal of the authors started in two previous manuscripts dedicated to revisiting the continuity properties of toroidal pseudo-differential operators with symbols in the Hörmander classes. Here we prove pointwise estimates in terms of the Fefferman-Stein sharp maximal function and of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function. Combining these estimates with the properties of Muckenhoupt's weight class $A_p$ we obtain boundedness theorems for pseudo-differential operators between weighted Lebesgue spaces on the torus $L^p(w)$. These results are given in the context of the globa…
We prove boundedness results for integral operators of fractional type and their higher order commutators between weighted spaces, including $L^p$-$L^q$, $L^p$-$BMO$ and $L^p$-Lipschitz estimates. The kernels of such operators satisfy certain size condition and a Lipschitz type regularity, and the symbol of the commutator belongs to a Lipschitz class. We also deal with commutators of fractional type operators with less regular kernels satisfying a Hörmander's type inequality. As far as we know, these last results are new even in the unweighted case. Moreover, we give a characterization result …
In a cylinder $D_T = Ω\times (0,T)$, where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, we examine the relation between the $L$-caloric measure, $dω^{(x,t)}$, where $L$ is the heat operator associated with a system of vector fields of Hörmander type, and the measure $dσ_X\times dt$, where $dσ_X$ is the intrinsic $X$-perimeter measure. The latter constitutes the appropriate replacement for the standard surface measure on the boundary and plays a central role in sub-Riemannian geometric measure theory. Under suitable assumptions on the domain $Ω$ we establish the mutual absolute continuity of $dω^{(x,t)}$ and $dσ_X…
We show that for uniform domains $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^{d+1}$ whose boundaries satisfy a certain nondegeneracy condition that harmonic measure cannot be mutually absolutely continuous with respect to $α$-dimensional Hausdorff measure unless $α\leq d$. We employ a lemma that shows that at almost every nondegenerate point, we may find a tangent measure of harmonic measure whose support is the boundary of yet another uniform domain whose harmonic measure resembles the tangent measure.
The main result is that every pseudo-differential operator of type 1,1 and order $d$ is continuous from the Triebel--Lizorkin space $F^d_{p,1}$ to $L_p$, $1\le p<\infty$, and that this is optimal within the Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin scales. The proof also leads to the known continuity for $s>d$, while for all real $s$ the sufficiency of Hörmander's condition on the twisted diagonal is carried over to the Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin framework. To obtain this, type 1,1-operators are extended to distributions with compact spectrum, and Fourier transformed operators of this type are on such distr…
We show that, for disjoint domains in the Euclidean space, mutual absolute continuity of their harmonic measures implies absolute continuity with respect to surface measure and rectifiability in the intersection of their boundaries. This improves on our previous result which assumed that the boundaries satisfied the capacity density condition.
In this paper, we investigate the boundary behavior of solutions of divergence-form operators with an elliptic symmetric part and a $BMO$ anti-symmetric part. Our results will hold in non-tangentially accessible (NTA) domains; these general domains were introduced by Jerison and Kenig and include the class of Lipschitz domains. We establish the Hölder continuity of the solutions at the boundary, existence of elliptic measures $ω_L$ associated to such operators, and the well-posedness of the continuous Dirichlet problem as well as the $L^p(dω)$ Dirichlet problem in NTA domains. The equivalence …
Let $E\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n\ge 2$, be a uniformly rectifiable set of dimension $n$. Then bounded harmonic functions in $Ω:= \mathbb{R}^{n+1}\setminus E$ satisfy Carleson measure estimates, and are "$\varepsilon$-approximable". Our results may be viewed as generalized versions of the classical F. and M. Riesz theorem, since the estimates that we prove are equivalent, in more topologically friendly settings, to quantitative mutual absolute continuity of harmonic measure, and surface measure.
We consider a uniformly rectifiable set $Γ\subset \mathbb R^n$ of dimension $d<n-1$. By using degenerate elliptic operators on the complement $Ω= \mathbb R^n \setminus Γ$, Guy David, Svitlana Mayboroda, and the author introduced a notion of harmonic measure on $Γ$. We prove in the present article that this harmonic measure on $Γ$ satisfies the $A^\infty$-property, that is the harmonic measure and the $d$-dimension Hausdorff measure on $Γ$ are mutually absolutely continuous in a quantitative and scale invariant way. Thus, we give an alternate proof of a recent theorem of David and Mayboroda, wh…
In this work we introduce the use of powerful tools from geometric measure theory (GMT) to study problems related to the size and structure of sets of mutual absolute continuity for the inside and outside harmonic measures of domains in n-dimensional Euclidean space, with n bigger than or equal to 3.
In 1977 the celebrated theorem of B. Dahlberg established that the harmonic measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Hausdorff measure on a Lipschitz graph of dimension $n-1$ in $\mathbb R^n$, and later this result has been extended to more general non-tangentially accessible domains and beyond. In the present paper we prove the first analogue of Dahlberg's theorem in higher co-dimension, on a Lipschitz graph $Γ$ of dimension $d$ in $\mathbb R^n$, $d<n-1$, with a small Lipschitz constant. We construct a linear degenerate elliptic operator $L$ such that the corresponding harmonic me…

We develop a method to study the structure of the common part of the boundaries of disjoint and possibly non-complementary time-varying domains in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n \geq 2$, at the points of mutual absolute continuity of their respective caloric measures. Our set of techniques, which is based on parabolic tangent measures, allows us to tackle the following problems: 1) Let $Ω_1$ and $Ω_2$ be disjoint domains in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n \geq 2$, which are quasi-regular for the heat equation and regular for the adjoint heat equation, and their complements satisfy a mild non-degeneracy hypothe…
We analyze a system of PDEs governing the interaction between two compressible mutually noninteracting fluids and a shell of Koiter type encompassing a time dependent 3D domain filled by the fluids. The dynamics of the fluids is modelled by a system resembilng compressible Navier-Stokes equations with a physically realistic pressure depending on densities of both the fluids. In fact in the present article the dependence of the fluid pressure on the densities is analogous to the ones considered in \cite{NovoPoko} (where the authors deal with a bi-fluid system in a time independent smooth domain…
Tangent measure and blow-up methods, are powerful tools for understanding the relationship between the infinitesimal structure of the boundary of a domain and the behavior of its harmonic measure. We introduce a method for studying tangent measures of elliptic measures in arbitrary domains associated with (possibly non-symmetric) elliptic operators in divergence form whose coefficients have vanishing mean oscillation at the boundary. In this setting, we show the following for domains $ Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$: 1. We extend the results of Kenig, Preiss, and Toro [KPT09] by showing mutual abs…
