Let $\mathcal{M}_{g,2}$ be the moduli space of curves of genus $g$ with a level-2 structure. We prove here that there is always a non hyperelliptic element in the intersection of four thetanull divisors in $\mathcal{M}_{6,2}$. We prove also that for all $g\geqslant3$, each component of the hyperelliptic locus in $\mathcal{M}_{g,2}$ is a connected component of the intersection of $g-2$ thetanull divisors.
The configuration of theta characteristics and vanishing thetanulls on a hyperelliptic curve is completely understood. We observe in this note that analogous results hold for the s-invariant theta characteristics on any curve C with an involution s . As a consequence we get examples of non hyperelliptic curves with a high number of vanishing thetanulls.
We discuss Weber's formula which gives the quotient of two Thetanullwerte for a plane smooth quartic in terms of the bitangents. In particular, we show how it can easily be derived from the Riemann-Jacobi formula.
In this work we study the Humbert-Edge's curves of type 5, defined as a complete intersection of four diagonal quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^5$. We characterize them using Kummer surfaces and using the geometry of these surfaces we construct some vanishing thetanulls on such curves. In addition, we describe an argument to give an isomorphism between the moduli space of Humbert-Edge's curves of type 5 and the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves of genus 2, and we let see how this argument can be generalized to state an isomorphism between the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves of genus $g=\frac{n-…
We associate to a unimodular lattice L, endowed with an automorphism of square -1, a principally polarized abelian variety A:= L_R/L. We show that the configuration of i-invariant theta divisors of A follows a pattern very similar to the classical theory of theta characteristics; as a consequence we find that A has a high number of vanishing thetanulls. When L = E_8 we recover the 10 vanishing thetanulls of the abelian fourfold discovered by R. Varley.
Let $\X$ be an irreducible, smooth, projective curve of genus $g \geq 2$ defined over the complex field $\C.$ Then there is a covering $π: \X \longrightarrow ¶^1,$ where $¶^1$ denotes the projective line. The problem of expressing branch points of the covering $π$ in terms of the transcendentals (period matrix, thetanulls, e.g.) is classical. It goes back to Riemann, Jacobi, Picard and Rosenhein. Many mathematicians, including Picard and Thomae, have offered partial treatments for this problem. In this work, we address the problem for cyclic curves of genus 2, 3, and 4 and find relations among…
We study k-jet ampleness of line bundles on hyperelliptic surfaces using vanishing theorems. Our main result states that on a hyperelliptic surface of an arbitrary type a line bundle of type (m,m) with m\geq k+2 is k-jet ample.
The modular variety of non singular and complete hyperelliptic curves with level-two structure of genus 3 is a 5-dimensional quasi projective variety which admits several standard compactifications. The first one, X, comes from the realization of this variety as a sub-variety of the Siegel modular variety of level two and genus three .We will be to describe the equations of X in a suitable projective embedding and its Hilbert function. It will turn out that X is normal. A further model comes from geometric invariant theory using so-called semistable degenerated point configurations in (P^1)^8 …
In the present paper we solve the following different but interrelated problems: (a) the moment problem on Riemann surfaces, (b) the vanishing problem of polynomial Abelian integrals of dimension zero on the projective plane, (c) the vanishing problem of polynomial hyperelliptic Abelian integrals.
We generalize the classical Szpiro inequality to the case of a semistable family of hyperelliptic curves. We show that for a semistable symplectic Lefschetz fibration of hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$, the number $N$ of non-separating vanishing cycles and the number $D$ of singular fibers satisfy the inequality $N \leq (4g+2)D$.
Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two. The Abel-Jacobi map $φ: {\rm Sym}^d(X) \rightarrow {\rm Pic}^d(X)$ is an embedding if $d$ is less than the gonality of $X$. We investigate the curvature of the pull-back, by $φ$, of the flat metric on ${\rm Pic}^d(X)$. In particular, we show that when $d=1$, the curvature is strictly negative everywhere if $X$ is not hyperelliptic, and when $X$ is hyperelliptic, the curvature is nonpositive with vanishing exactly on the points of $X$ fixed by the hyperelliptic involution.
For a hyperelliptic curve of genus $g$, it is well known that the symmetric products of $g$ points on the curve are expressed in terms of their Abel-Jacobi image by the hyperelliptic sigma function (Jacobi inversion formulae). Matsutani and Previato gave a natural generalization of the formulae to the more general algebraic curves defined by $y^r=f(x)$, which are special cases of $(n,s)$ curves, and derived new vanishing properties of the sigma function of the curves $y^r=f(x)$. In this paper we extend the formulae to the telescopic curves proposed by Miura and derive new vanishing properties …
We study the Dynkin diagram associated to the monodromy of direct sums of polynomials. The monodromy problem asks under which conditions on a polynomial, the monodromy of a vanishing cycle generates the whole homology of a regular fiber. We consider the case $y^4+g(x)$, which is a generalization of the results of Christopher and Marde$\check{s}$ić about the monodromy problem for hyperelliptic curves. Moreover, We solve the monodromy problem for direct sums of fourth degree polynomials.
We describe a computation of rational points on genus 3 hyperelliptic curves $C$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ whose Jacobians have Mordell-Weil rank 1. Using the method of Chabauty and Coleman, we present and implement an algorithm in Sage to compute the zero locus of two Coleman integrals and analyze the finite set of points cut out by the vanishing of these integrals. We run the algorithm on approximately 17,000 curves from a forthcoming database of genus 3 hyperelliptic curves and discuss some interesting examples where the zero set includes global points not found in $C(\mathbb{Q})$.
One studies the system of differential equations satisfied by the hyperelliptic integral associated to a vanishing cycle defined for the versal deformation of the $A-μ$ singularity. As an application, the estimates on the multiplicity of zeros of the hyperelliptic integral are given as a linear function of the degree of present polynomials.
We resume the study initiated in \cite{CL}. For a generic curve $C$ in an ample linear system $\vert \mathcal{L} \vert$ on a toric surface $X$, a vanishing cycle of $C$ is an isotopy class of simple closed curve that can be contracted to a point along a degeneration of $C$ to a nodal curve in $\vert \mathcal{L} \vert$. The obstructions that prevent a simple closed curve in $C$ from being a vanishing cycle are encoded by the adjoint line bundle $K_X \otimes \mathcal{L}$. In this paper, we consider the linear systems carrying the two simplest types of obstruction. Geometrically, these obstructio…
Equations of dispersionless Hirota type have been thoroughly investigated in the mathematical physics and differential geometry literature. It is known that the parameter space of integrable Hirota type equations in 3D is 21-dimensional and the action of the natural equivalence group Sp(6, R) on the parameter space has an open orbit. However the structure of the `master-equation' corresponding to this orbit remained elusive. Here we prove that the master-equation is specified by the vanishing of any genus 3 theta constant with even characteristic. The rich geometry of integrable Hirota type eq…
Let $f:S\to B$ be a fibration of curves and let $f_\astω_{S/B}=\cU\oplus \cA$ be the second Fujita decomposition of $f.$ In this paper we study a kind of Massey products, which are defined as infinitesimal invariants by the cohomology of a curve, in relation to the monodromy of certain subbundles of $\cU$. The main result states that their vanishing on a general fibre of $f$ implies that the monodromy group acts faithfully on a finite set of morphisms and is therefore finite. In the last part we apply our result in terms of the normal function induced by the Ceresa cycle. On the one hand, we p…
