Let the group G of m-th roots of unity act on the complex line by multiplication, inducing an action on the algebra, Diff, of polynomial differential operators on the line. Following Crawley-Boevey and Holland, we introduce a multiparameter deformation, D_c, of the smash-product (Diff # G). Our main result provides natural bijections between (roughly speaking) the following spaces:
(1) G-equivariant version of Wilson's adelic Grassmannian of rank r;
(2) Rank r projective D_c-modules (equipped with generic trivialization);
(3) Rank r torsion-free sheaves on a `noncommutative quadric';
(4) Disjoint union of Nakajima quiver varieties for the cyclic quiver with m vertices. The bijection between (1) and (2) is provided by a version of Riemann-Hilbert correspondence between D-modules and sheaves. The bijections between (2), (3) and (4) were motivated by our previous work math.AG/0103068. The resulting bijection between (1) and (4) reduces, in the very special case: r=1 and G=1, to the partition of (rank 1) adelic Grassmannian into a union of Calogero-Moser spaces, discovered by Wilson. This gives, in particular, a natural and purely algebraic approach to Wilson's result.
We introduce a compact moduli of noncommutative quadrics, and show that it is the weighted projective space of weight (2,4,4,6). We also introduce a compact moduli of potentials for the conifold quiver, and show that it is the weighted projective space of weight (1,2,3,4). There is a natural morphism from the latter to the former, which is finite of degree 4.
A wonderful compactification of an orbit under the action of a semi-simple and simply connected group is a smooth projective variety containing the orbit as a dense open subset, and where the added boundary divisor is simple normal crossing. We construct the wonderful compactification of the space of symmetric and symplectic matrices, and investigate its geometry. As an application, we describe the birational geometry of the Kontsevich spaces parametrizing conics in Lagrangian Grassmannians.
We give a description of the Hochschild cohomology for noncommutative planes (resp. quadrics) using the automorphism groups of the elliptic triples (resp. quadruples) that classify the Artin-Schelter regular $\mathbb{Z}$-algebras used to define noncommutative planes and quadrics. For elliptic triples the description of the automorphism groups is due to Bondal-Polishchuk, for elliptic quadruples it is new.
A noncommutative deformation of a quadric surface is usually described by a three-dimensional cubic Artin-Schelter regular algebra. In this paper we show that for such an algebra its bounded derived category embeds into the bounded derived category of a commutative deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on the quadric. This is the second example in support of a conjecture by Orlov. Based on this example, we formulate an infinitesimal version of the conjecture, and provide some evidence in the case of smooth projective surfaces.
A noncommutative Grassmannian NGr(m, n) is introduced by Efimov, Luntz, and Orlov in `Deformation theory of objects in homotopy and derived categories III: Abelian categories' as a noncommutative algebra associated to an exceptional collection of n-m+1 coherent sheaves on P^n. It is a graded Calabi--Yau Z-algebra of dimension n-m+1. We show that this algebra is coherent provided that the codimension d = n-m of the Grassmannian is two. According to op. cit., this gives a t-structure on the derived category of the coherent sheaves on the noncommutative Grassmannian. The proof is quite different …
We classify all the embeddings of P^n in a Grassmannian of lines G(1,N) such that the composition with Plücker is given by a linear system of quadrics of P^n.
We give a geometric description of singular pencils of quadrics of constant rank, relating them to the splitting type of some naturally associated vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^1$. Then we study their orbits in the Grassmannian of lines, under the natural action of the general linear group.
The Beilinson-Bloch type conjectures predict that the low degree rational Chow groups of intersections of quadrics are one dimensional. This conjecture was proved by Otwinowska. Making use of homological projective duality and the recent theory of (Jacobians of) noncommutative Chow motives, we give an alternative proof of this conjecture in the case of a complete intersection of either two quadrics or three odd-dimensional quadrics. Moreover, without the use of the powerful Lefschetz theorem, we prove that in these cases the unique non-trivial algebraic Jacobian is the middle one. As an applic…
We study smooth quadric surfaces in the Pfaffian hypersurface in $\mathbb{P}^{14}$ parameterising $6 \times 6$ skew-symmetric matrices of rank at most 4, not intersecting the Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}(1,5)$. Such surfaces correspond to quadratic systems of skew-symmetric matrices of size 6 and constant rank 4, and give rise to a globally generated vector bundle $E$ on the quadric. We analyse these bundles and their geometry, relating them to linear congruences of lines in $\mathbb{P}^5$.
In this paper we study intersections of quadrics, components of the hypersurface in Grassmannian $Gr(3, \CC^n)$ introduced in \cite{SoSuSi}. This lead to an alternative statement and proof of Pappus's Theorem retrieving Pappus's and Hesse configurations of lines as special points in complex projective Grassmannian. This new connection is obtained through a third purely combinatorial object, the intersection lattice of Discriminantal arrangement.
In this short note, making use of the recent theory of noncommutative mixed motives, we prove that the Voevodsky's mixed motive of a quadric fibration over a smooth curve is Kimura-finite.
We classify complex projective varieties of dimension $2r \geq 8$ swept out by a family of codimension two grassmannians of lines $\mathbb{G}(1,r)$. They are either fibrations onto normal surfaces such that the general fibers are isomorphic to $\G(1,r)$ or the grassmannian $\mathbb{G}(1,r+1)$. The cases $r=2$ and $r=3$ are also considered in the more general context of varieties swept out by codimension two linear spaces or quadrics.
This is an extended abstract of my talk at the Oberwolfach Workshop "Interactions between Algebraic Geometry and Noncommutative Algebra" (May 10 - 14, 2010). We present some properties of quiver Grassmannians and examples of explicit computations of their Euler characteristics.
Let d_{k,n} and #_{k,n} denote the dimension and the degree of the Grassmannian G_{k,n} of k-planes in projective n-space, respectively. For each k between 1 and n-2 there are 2^{d_{k,n}} \cdot #_{k,n} (a priori complex) k-planes in P^n tangent to d_{k,n} general quadratic hypersurfaces in P^n. We show that this class of enumerative problem is fully real, i.e., for each k between 1 and n-2 there exists a configuration of d_{k,n} real quadrics in (affine) real space R^n so that all the mutually tangent k-flats are real.
Caldero and Zelevinsky studied the geometry of quiver Grassmannians for the Kronecker quiver and computed their Euler characteristics by examining natural stratification of quiver Grassmannians. We consider generalized Kronecker quivers and compute virtual Poincare polynomials of certain varieties which are the images under projections from strata of quiver Grassmannians to ordinary Grassmannians. In contrast to the Kronecker quiver case, these polynomials do not necessarily have positive coefficients. The key ingredient is the explicit formula for noncommutative cluster variables given by Ral…
We show that homologically projectively dual varieties for Grassmannians Gr(2,6) and Gr(2,7) are given by certain noncommutative resolutions of singularities of the corresponding Pfaffian varieties. As an application we describe the derived categories of linear sections of these Grassmannians and Pfaffians. In particular, we show that (1) the derived category of a Pfaffian cubic 4-fold admits a semiorthogonal decompositions consisting of 3 exceptional line bundles, and of the derived category of a K3-surface; (2) mutually orthogonal Calabi-Yau linear sections of Gr(2,7) and of the correspondin…
In this article, following an insight of Kontsevich, we extend the famous Weil conjecture (as well as the strong form of the Tate conjecture) from the realm of algebraic geometry to the broad noncommutative setting of dg categories. As a first application, we prove the noncommutative Weil conjecture (and the noncommutative strong form of the Tate conjecture) in the following cases: twisted schemes, Calabi-Yau dg categories associated to hypersurfaces, noncommutative gluings of schemes, root stacks, (twisted) global orbifolds, connective dg algebras, and finite-dimensional dg algebras. As a sec…
