In modern form, Hilbert's Theorem 90 tells us that R^1f_*(G_m)=0, where f is the canonical map between the etale site and the Zariski site of a scheme X. I construct examples showing that the corresponding statement for algebraic spaces does not hold. The first example is a nonseparated smooth 1-dimensional bug-eyed cover in Kollar's sense. The second example is a nonnormal proper algebraic space obtained by identifying points on suitable nonprojective smooth proper schemes.
The subject of this paper is an algebraic version of the irregular Riemann-Hilbert correspondence which was mentioned in [arXiv:1910.09954] by the author. In particular, we prove an equivalence of categories between the triangulated category of algebraic holonomic D-modules on a smooth algebraic variety and the one of algebraic C-constructible enhanced ind-sheaves. Moreover we show that there exists a t-structure on the triangulated category of algebraic C-constructible enhanced ind-sheaves whose heart is equivalent to the abelian category of algebraic holonomic D-modules. Furthermore we shall…
In this expositional paper, we discuss commutative algebra -- a study inspired by the properties of integers, rational numbers, and real numbers. In particular, we investigate rings and ideals, and their various properties. After, we introduce the polynomial ring and the fundamental relationship between polynomials and sets of points. We prove some results in algebraic geometry, notably Hilbert's Basis Theorem.
Consider a family of integral complex locally planar curves. We show that under some assumptions on the basis, the relative nested Hilbert scheme is smooth. In this case, the decomposition theorem of Beilinson, Bernstein and Deligne asserts that the pushforward of the constant sheaf on the relative nested Hilbert scheme splits as a direct sum of shifted semisimple perverse sheaves. We will show that no summand is supported in positive codimension.
In this paper we define the algebraic sets and the ideal of points for bijective skew PBW extensions with coefficients in left Noetherian domains. Some properties of affine algebraic sets of commutative algebraic geometry will be extended, in particular, a Zariski topology will be constructed. Assuming additionally that the extension is quasi-commutative with polynomial center and the ring of coefficients is an algebraically closed field, we will prove an adapted version of the Hilbert's Nullstellensatz theorem that covers the classical one. The Gröbner bases of skew PBW extensions will be use…
In this paper, we prove that a smooth hyperbolic projective curve over a finite field can be recovered from L-functions associated to the Hilbert class field of the curve and its constant field extensions. As a consequence, we give a new proof of a result of Mochizuki and Tamagawa that two such curves with isomorphic fundamental groups are themselves isomorphic.
For a number field $K$, an algebraic variety $X/K$ is said to have the Hilbert Property if $X(K)$ is not thin. We are going to describe some examples of algebraic varieties, for which the Hilbert Property is a new result. The first class of examples is that of smooth cubic hypersurfaces with a $K$-rational point in $\mathbb{P}_n/K$, for $n \geq 3$. These fall in the class of unirational varieties, for which the Hilbert Property was conjectured by Colliot-Thélène and Sansuc. We then provide a sufficient condition for which a surface endowed with multiple elliptic fibrations has the Hilbert Prop…
For a smooth, projective, complex algebraic variety $X$, the Riemann--Hilbert correspondence establishes a complex analytic isomorphism between the `Betti moduli space' of rank $n$ local systems on $X^\mathrm{an}$ and the `de Rham moduli space' of rank $n$ vector bundles with flat connection on $X$. In the rank one case, C. Simpson precisely characterizes the subvarieties of these moduli spaces that are `bi-algebraic' for this typically transcendental, analytic isomorphism. In this short note, we give a new proof of this characterization of Simpson, using methods from o-minimal geometry. We ad…
On any smooth algebraic variety over a $p$-adic local field, we construct a tensor functor from the category of de Rham $p$-adic étale local systems to the category of filtered algebraic vector bundles with integrable connections satisfying the Griffiths transversality, which we view as a $p$-adic analogue of Deligne's classical Riemann--Hilbert correspondence. A crucial step is to construct canonical extensions of the desired connections to suitable compactifications of the algebraic variety with logarithmic poles along the boundary, in a precise sense characterized by the eigenvalues of resi…
We prove a version of the Hilbert basis theorem in the setting of equivariant algebraic geometry: given a group G acting on a finite type morphism of schemes X -> S, if S is topologically G-noetherian, then so is X.
This is the first in a series of papers about foliations in derived geometry. After introducing derived foliations on arbitrary derived stacks, we concentrate on quasi-smooth and rigid derived foliations on smooth complex algebraic varieties and on their associated formal and analytic versions. Their truncations are classical singular foliations. We prove that a quasi-smooth rigid derived foliation on a smooth complex variety $X$ is formally integrable at any point, and, if we suppose that its singular locus has codimension $\geq 2$, then the truncation of its analytification is a locally inte…
We give a new proof the arithmetic Hilbert-Samuel theorem by using classical reductions in the theory of coherent sheaves, a direct proof in the case of the projective space and the conservation of some numerical invariants, called arithmetic Hilbert invariants, through the deformation to the projective completion of the cone. This construction lies at the intersection of deformation theory and Arakelov geometry. It provides a deformation of a Hermitian line bundle over the deformation to the normal cone.
We study the Hilbert scheme $\mathrm{Hilb}_d(\mathbb{A}^\infty)$ from an $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopical viewpoint and obtain applications to algebraic K-theory. We show that the Hilbert scheme $\mathrm{Hilb}_d(\mathbb{A}^\infty)$ is $\mathbb{A}^1$-equivalent to the Grassmannian of $(d-1)$-planes in $\mathbb{A}^\infty$. We then describe the $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy type of $\mathrm{Hilb}_d(\mathbb{A}^n)$ in a range, for $n$ large compared to $d$. For example, we compute the integral cohomology of $\mathrm{Hilb}_d(\mathbb{A}^n)(\mathbb{C})$ in a range. We also deduce that the forgetful map $\mathrm{F…
We show that Bertini theorems hold for $F$-signature and Hilbert--Kunz multiplicity. In particular, if $X \subseteq \mathbb{P}^n$ is normal and quasi-projective with $F$-signature greater than $λ$ (respectively the Hilbert--Kunz multiplicity is less than $λ$) at all points $x \in X$, then for a general hyperplane $H \subseteq \mathbb{P}^n$ the $F$-signature (respectively Hilbert--Kunz multiplicity) of $X \cap H$ is greater than $λ$ (respectively less than $λ$) at all points $x \in X \cap H$.
The algebraic form of Hilbert's 13th Problem asks for the resolvent degree $\text{rd}(n)$ of the general polynomial $f(x) = x^n + a_1 x^{n-1} + \ldots + a_n$ of degree $n$, where $a_1, \ldots, a_n$ are independent variables. The resolvent degree is the minimal integer $d$ such that every root of $f(x)$ can be obtained in a finite number of steps, starting with $\mathbb C(a_1, \ldots, a_n)$ and adjoining algebraic functions in $\leq d$ variables at each step. Recently Farb and Wolfson defined the resolvent degree $\text{rd}_k(G)$ of any finite group $G$ and any base field $k$ of characteristic …
We show that a Cohen-Macaulay analytic singularity can be arbitrarily closely approximated by germs of Nash sets which are also Cohen-Macaulay and share the same Hilbert-Samuel function. We also prove that every analytic singularity is topologically equivalent to a Nash singularity with the same Hilbert-Samuel function.
