We consider a class of proper actions of locally compact groups on imprimitivity bimodules over C*-algebras which behave like the proper actions on C*-algebras introduced by Rieffel in 1988. We prove that every such action gives rise to a Morita equivalence between a crossed product and a generalized fixed-point algebra, and in doing so make several innovations which improve the applicability of Rieffel's theory. We then show how our construction can be used to obtain canonical tensor-product decompositions of important Morita equivalences. Our results show, for example, that the different proofs of the symmetric imprimitivity theorem for actions on induced algebras yield isomorphic equivalences. A similar analysis of the symmetric imprimitivity theorem for graph algebras gives new information about the amenability of actions on graph algebras.
There are at least three imprimitivity bimodules naturally associated to a maximal coaction of a discrete group G on a C*-algebra and a normal subgroup of G: Mansfield's bimodule; the bimodule assembled by Ng from Green's imprimitivity bimodule and Katayama duality; and a bimodule assembled from Green's bimodule and a crossed-product Mansfield bimodule. We show that all three of these are isomorphic, so that the corresponding inducing maps on representations are identical. This can be interpreted as saying that Mansfield and Green induction are inverses of one another ``modulo Katayama duality…
We give a definition of Toeplitz matrix acting on the $\ell^2$-space of an imprimitivity bimodule $X$ over a $C^*$-algebra $A$. We characterize the set of Toeplitz matrices as the closure in a certain topology of the image of the left regular representation of the crossed product $A\rtimes X$.
After recalling in detail some basic definitions on Hilbert C*-bimodules, Morita equivalence and imprimitivity, we discuss a spectral reconstruction theorem for imprimitivity Hilbert C*-bimodules over commutative unital C*-algebras and consider some of its applications in the theory of commutative full C*-categories.
In this paper, we will introduce a notion of basis related Morita equivalence in the Cuntz--Krieger algebras $({\mathcal{O}_A}, \{S_a\}_{a \in E_A})$ with the canonical right finite basis $\{S_a\}_{a \in E_A}$ as Hilbert $C^*$-bimodule, and prove that two nonnegative irreducible matrices $A$ and $B$ are elementary equivalent, that is, $A = CD, B = DC$ for some nonnegative rectangular matrices $C, D$, if and only if the Cuntz--Krieger algebras $({\mathcal{O}_A}, \{S_a\}_{a \in E_A})$ and $({\mathcal{O}_B}, \{ S_b\}_{b\in E_B})$ with the canonical right finite bases are basis relatedly elementar…
A Morita equivalence similar to that found by Green for crossed products by groups will be established for crossed products by inverse semigroups. More precisely, let $G$ be an inverse semigroup, $H$ a finite sub-inverse semigroup of $G$ and $A$ a $G$-algebra or a $H$-algebra. Then the crossed product $A \rtimes H$ is Morita equivalent to a certain crossed product $B \rtimes G$.
Imprimitivity theorems provide a fundamental tool for studying the representation theory and structure of crossed-product C*-algebras. In this work, we show that the Imprimitivity Theorem for induced algebras, Green's Imprimitivity Theorem for actions of groups, and Mansfield's Imprimitivity Theorem for coactions of groups can all be viewed as natural equivalences between various crossed-product functors among certain equivariant categories. The categories involved have C*-algebras with actions or coactions (or both) of a fixed locally compact group G as their objects, and equivariant equivale…
In this paper we define a monoid called the equivariant Brauer semigroup for a locally compact Hausdorff groupoid E whose elements consist of Morita equivalence classes of E-dynamical systems. This construction generalizes both the equivariant Brauer semigroup for transformation groups and the equivariant Brauer group for a groupoid. We show that groupoid equivalence induces an isomorphism of equivariant Brauer semigroups and that this isomorphism preserves the Morita equivalence classes of the respective crossedproducts, thus generalizing Raeburn's symmetric imprimitivity theorem.
For any maximal coaction (A, G, delta) and any closed normal subgroup N of G, there exists an imprimitivity bimodule Y between the full crossed product A x G x N and A x G/N, together with a compatible coaction delta_Y of G. The assignment (A, delta) -> (Y, delta_Y) implements a natural equivalence between the crossed-product functors "x G x N" and "x G/N", in the category whose objects are maximal coactions of G and whose morphisms are isomorphism classes of right-Hilbert bimodule coactions of G.
We apply the One-Sided Action Theorem from the first paper in this series to prove that Rieffel's Morita equivalence between the reduced crossed product by a proper saturated action and the generalized fixed-point algebra is a quotient of a Morita equivalence between the full crossed product and a "universal" fixed-point algebra. We give several applications, to Fell bundles over groups, reduced crossed products as fixed-point algebras, and C*-bundles.
We shall introduce the notions of the strong Morita equivalence for unital inclusions of unital $C^*$-algebras and conditional expectations from an equivalence bimodule onto its closed subspace with respect to conditional expectations from unital $C^*$-algebras onto their unital $C^*$-subalgebras. Also, we shall study their basic properties.
We study induced representations of Hilbert modules over locally C*-algebras and their non-degeneracy. We show that if $V$ and $W$ are Morita equivalent Hilbert modules over locally C*-algebras $A$ and $B$, respectively, then there exists a bijective correspondence between equivalence classes of non-degenerate representations of $V$ and $W$.
We define an equivalence relation between bimodules over maximal abelian selfadjoint algebras (masa bimodules) which we call spatial Morita equivalence. We prove that two reflexive masa bimodules are spatially Morita equivalent iff their (essential) bilattices are isomorphic. We also prove that if S^1, S^2 are bilattices which correspond to reflexive masa bimodules U_1, U_2 and f: S^1\rightarrow S^2 is an onto bilattice homomorphism, then: (i) If U_1 is synthetic, then U_2 is synthetic. (ii) If U_2 contains a nonzero compact (or a finite or a rank 1) operator, then U_1 also contains a nonzero …
Let $δ$ be a nondegenerate coaction of G on a C*-algebra B, and let H be a closed subgroup of G. The dual action of H on $B\times_δG$ is proper and saturated in the sense of Rieffel, and the generalised fixed-point algebra is the crossed product of B by the homogeneous space G/H. The resulting Morita equivalence is a version of Mansfield's imprimitivity theorem which requires neither amenability nor normality of H.
Using the theory of weakly proper actions of locally compact groups recently developed by the authors, we give a unified proof of both reduced and maximal versions of Mansfield's Imprimitivity Theorem and obtain a general version of Landstad's Duality Theorem for twisted group coactions. As one application, we obtain the stabilization trick for arbitrary twisted coactions, showing that every twisted coaction is Morita equivalent to an inflated coaction.
Let U, V, and W be multiplicative unitaries coming from discrete Kac systems such that W is an amenable normal submultiplicative unitary of V with quotient U. We define notions for right-Hilbert bimodules of coactions of S_V and (S_V)^, their restrictions to S_W and (S_U)^, their dual coactions, and their full and reduced crossed products. If N(A) denotes the imprimitivity bimodule associated to any coaction of S_V on a C*-algebra A by Ng's imprimitivity theorem, then for any suitably nondegenerate injective coaction of S_V on a right-Hilbert A - B bimodule X we establish an isomorphism betwee…
The first imprimitivity theorems identified the representations of groups or dynamical systems which are induced from representations of a subgroup. Symmetric imprimitivity theorems identify pairs of crossed products by different groups which are Morita equivalent, and hence have the same representation theory. Here we consider commuting actions of groups $H$ and $K$ on a $C^*$-algebra which are saturated and proper as defined by Rieffel in 1990. Our main result says that the resulting Morita equivalence of crossed products is natural in the sense that it is compatible with homomorphisms and i…
Let $A \subset C$ and $B \subset D$ be unital inclusions of unital $C^*$-algebras. Let ${}_A \mathbf{B}_A (C, A)$ (resp. ${}_B \mathbf{B}_B (D, B)$) be the space of all bounded $A$-bimodule (resp. $B$-bimodule) linear maps from $C$ (resp. $D$) to $A$ (resp. $B$). We suppose that $A \subset C$ and $B \subset D$ are strongly Morita equivalent. We shall show that there is an isometric isomorphism $f$ of ${}_A \mathbf{B}_A (C, A)$ onto ${}_B \mathbf{B}_B (D, B)$ and we shall study on basic properties about $f$.
We discuss the crossed product by the dual action of the circle on the crossed product of a C*-algebra A by a Hilbert C*-bimodule X. When X is an A-A Morita equivalence bimodule, the double crossed product is shown to be Morita equivalent to the C*-algebra A.
We give a condition on a full coaction $(A,G,δ)$ of a (possibly) nonamenable group $G$ and a closed normal subgroup $N$ of $G$ which ensures that Mansfield imprimitivity works; i.e. that $A\times_{δ{\vert}} G/N$ is Morita equivalent to $A\times_δG\times_{\deltahat,r} N$. This condition obtains if $N$ is amenable or $δ$ is normal. It is preserved under Morita equivalence, inflation of coactions, the stabilization trick of Echterhoff and Raeburn, and on passing to twisted coactions.
We consider two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras whose small $C^*$-algebras have approximate units of the large $C^*$-algebras and their two spaces of all bounded bimodule linear maps. We suppose that the two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras are strongly Morita equivalent. In this paper, we shall show that there exists an isometric isomorphism from one of the spaces of all bounded bimodule linear maps to the other space and we shall study on basic properties about the isometric isomorphism. And, using this isometric isomorphism, we define the Picard group for a bimodule linear map and discuss on the P…
In a recent paper the authors introduced universal and exotic generalized fixed-point algebras for weakly proper group actions on C*-algebras. Here we extend the notion of weakly proper actions to actions on Hilbert modules. As a result we obtain several imprimitivity theorems establishing important Morita equivalences between universal, reduced, or exotic crossed products and appropriate universal, reduced, or exotic fixed-point algebras, respectively. In particular, we obtain an exotic version of Green's imprimitivity theorem and a very general version of the symmetric imprimitivity theorem …
We characterize the pairs of operator spaces which occur as pairs of Morita equivalence bimodules between non-selfadjoint operator algebras in terms of the mutual relation between the spaces. We obtain a characterization of the operator spaces which are completely isometrically isomorphic to imprimitivity bimodules between some strongly Morita equivalent (in the sense of Rieffel) C*-algebras. As corollaries, we give representation results for such operator spaces.
We discuss Morita equivalence within the family of quantum Heisenberg manifolds. The main tool employed is the generalization of a result of P. Green and M. Rieffel about Morita equivalence of transformation groups to crossed products by Hilbert bimodules.
We revisit and generalize the application of a method introduced by Latrémolière and Packer for constructing finitely generated projective modules over the noncommutative solenoid C*-algebras. By realizing them as direct limits of rotation algebras, the method constructs directed systems of equivalence bimodules between rotation algebras that satisfy the necessary compatibility conditions to build Morita equivalence bimodules between the direct limit C*-algebras. In the irrational case, we use a fixed projection in a matrix algebra over the rotation algebra satisfying a key condition to build …
Suppose that a locally compact group $G$ acts freely and properly on the right of a locally compact space $T$. Rieffel proved that if $α$ is an action of $G$ on a $C^*$-algebra $A$ and there is an equivariant embedding of $C_0(T)$ in $M(A)$, then the action $α$ of $G$ on $A$ is proper, and the crossed product $A\rtimes_{α,r}G$ is Morita equivalent to a generalised fixed-point algebra $\Fix(A,α)$ in $M(A)^α$. We show that the assignment $(A,α)\mapsto\Fix(A,α)$ extends to a functor $\Fix$ on a category of $C^*$-dynamical systems in which the isomorphisms are Morita equivalences, and that Rieffel…
Given a correspondence X over a C*-algebra A, we construct a C*-algebra and a Hilbert C*-bimodule over it whose crossed product is isomorphic to the augmented Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebra of X. This construction enables us to establish a condition for two augmented Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebras to be Morita equivalent.
The Symmetric Imprimitivity Theorem provides a Morita equivalence between two crossed products of induced C*-algebras. Quigg and Spielberg proved, by indirect but ingenious methods, that the symmetric imprimitivity theorem has an analog for reduced crossed products. Here we identify the representations which induce to regular representations under the equivalence of the symmetric theorem. We use this result to show that regular representations themselves almost always induce to regular representations. In addition, we obtain a direct proof of the theorem of Quigg and Spielberg.
Given C*-algebras A and B and an imprimitivity A-B-bimodule X, we construct an explicit isomorphism X_* : K_i(A) --> K_i(B) where K_i denote the complex K-theory functors for i=0, 1. Our techniques do not require separability nor existence of countable approximate identities. We thus extend, to general C*-algebras, the result of Brown, Green and Rieffel according to which strongly Morita equivalent C*-algebras have isomorphic K-groups. The method employed includes a study of Fredholm operators on Hilbert modules.
Green's theorem gives a Morita equivalence $C_0(G/H,A)\rtimes G\sim A\rtimes H$ for a closed subgroup $H$ of a locally compact group $G$ acting on a $C^*$-algebra $A$. We prove an analogue of Green's theorem in the case $G=\mathbb{Z}$, where the automorphism generating the action is replaced by a Hilbert $C^*$-bimodule.
The Hecke algebra H(G,H) of a Hecke pair (G,H) is studied using the Schlichting completion (G',H'), which is a Hecke pair whose Hecke algebra is isomorphic to H(G,H) and which is topologized so that H' is a compact open subgroup of G'. In particular, the representation theory and C*-completions of H(G,H) are addressed in terms of the projection p in C*(G') corresponding to the characteristic function of H', using both Fell's and Rieffel's imprimitivity theorems and the identity H(G,H) = p C_c(G') p. An extended analysis of the case where H is contained in a normal subgroup of G (and in particu…
The classical Morita Theorem for rings established the equivalence of three statements, involving categorical equivalences, isomorphisms between corners of finite matrix rings, and bimodule homomorphisms. A fourth equivalent statement (established later) involves an isomorphism between infinite matrix rings. In our main result, we establish the equivalence of analogous statements involving graded categorical equivalences, graded isomorphisms between corners of finite matrix rings, graded bimodule homomorphisms, and graded isomorphisms between infinite matrix rings.
We will introduce the notion of strong Morita equivalence for completely positive linear maps and study its basic properties. Also, we will discuss the relation between strong Morita equivalence for bounded $C^*$-bimodule linear maps and strong Morita equivalence for completely positive linear maps. Furthermore, we will show that if two unital $C^*$-algebras are strongly Morita equivalent, then there is a $1-1$ correspondence between the two sets of all strong Morita equivalence classes of completely positive linear maps on the two unital $C^*$-algebras and we will show that the corresponding …
In this paper, we will prove that if $A$ is a $C^*$-algebra with an effective coaction $ε$ by a compact quantum group, then the fixed point algebra and the reduced crossed product are Morita equivalent. As an application, we prove an imprimitivity type theorem for crossed products of coactions by discrete Kac $C^*$-algebras.
The duality principle for Gabor frames is one of the pillars of Gabor analysis. We establish a far-reaching generalization to Morita equivalent $C^*$-algebras where the equivalence bimodule is a finitely generated projective Hilbert $C^*$-module. These Hilbert $C^*$-modules are equipped with some extra structure and are called Gabor bimodules. We formulate a duality principle for standard module frames for Gabor bimodules which reduces to the well-known Gabor duality principle for twisted group $C^*$-algebras of a lattice in phase space. We lift all these results to the matrix algebra level an…
Following Jansen and Waldmann, and Kajiwara and Watatani, we shall introduce notions of coactions of a finite dimensional $C^*$-Hopf algebra on a Hilbert $C^*$-bimodule of finite type in the sense of Kajiwara and Watatani and define their crossed product. We shall investigate their basic properties and show that the strong Morita equivalence for coactions preserves the Rohlin property for coactions of a finite dimensional $C^*$-Hopf algebra on unital $C^*$-algebras.
We answer the title question for sigma-unital C*-algebras. The answer is that the algebra must be the direct sum of a dual C*-algebra and a C*-algebra satisfying a certain local unitality condition. We also discuss similar problems in the context of Hilbert C*-bimodules and imprimitivity bimodules and in the context of centralizers of Pedersen's ideal.
Rings form a bicategory [Rings], with classes of bimodules as horizontal arrows, and bimodule maps as vertical arrows. The notion of Morita equivalence for rings can be translated in terms of bicategories in the following way. Two rings are Morita equivalent if and only if they are isomorphic objects in the bicategory. We repeat this construction for von Neumann algebras. Von Neumann algebras form a bicategory [W*], with classes of correspondences as horizontal arrows, and intertwiners as vertical arrows. Two von Neumann algebras are Morita equivalent if and only if they are isomorphic objects…
Let $p\in \mathbb{N}$ be prime, and let $θ$ be irrational. The authors have previously shown that the noncommutative $p$-solenoid corresponding to the multiplier of the group $\left(\mathbb{Z}\left[\frac{1}{p}\right]\right)^2$ parametrized by $α=(θ+1, (θ+1)/p,\cdots, (θ+1)/p^j,\cdots )$ is strongly Morita equivalent to the noncommutative solenoid on $\left(\mathbb{Z}\left[\frac{1}{p}\right]\right)^2$ coming from the multiplier $β= (1-\frac{θ+1}θ,1-\frac{θ+1}{pθ}, \cdots, 1-\frac{θ+1}{p^jθ}, \cdots )$ . The method used a construction of Rieffel referred to as the "Heisenberg bimodule" in which …
Let B be a C*-algebra with a maximal coaction of a locally compact group G, and let N and H be closed normal subgroups of G with N contained in H. We show that the process Ind_(G/H)^G which uses Mansfield's bimodule to induce representations of the crossed product of B by G from those of the restricted crossed product of B by (G/H) is equivalent to the two-stage induction process: Ind_(G/N)^G composed with Ind_(G/H)^(G/N). The proof involves a calculus of symmetric imprimitivity bimodules which relates the bimodule tensor product to the fibred product of the underlying spaces.
Mansfield showed how to induce representations of crossed products of C*-algebras by coactions from crossed products by quotient groups and proved an imprimitivity theorem characterising these induced representations. We give an alternative construction of his bimodule in the case of dual coactions, based on the symmetric imprimitivity theorem of the third author; this provides a more workable way of inducing representations of crossed products of C*-algebras by dual coactions. The construction works for homogeneous spaces as well as quotient groups, and we prove an imprimitivity theorem for t…
Let $A$ and $B$ be arbitrary $C^*$-algebras, we prove that the existence of a Hilbert $A$-$B$-bimodule of finite index ensures that the WEP, QWEP, and LLP along with other finite-dimensional approximation properties such as CBAP and (S)OAP are shared by $A$ and $B$. For this, we first study the stability of the WEP, QWEP and LLP under Morita equivalence of $C^*$-algebras. We present examples of Hilbert $A$-$B$-bimodules which are not of finite index, while such properties are shared between $A$ and $B$. To this end, we study twisted crossed products by amenable discrete groups.
We give a notion of equivalence for Fell bundles over groups, not necessarily saturated nor separable, and show that equivalent Fell bundles have Morita-Rieffel equivalent cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras. Our notion is originated in the context of partial actions and their enveloping actions. The equivalence between two Fell bundles is implemented by a bundle of Hilbert bimodules with some extra structure. Suitable cross-sectional spaces of such a bundle turn out to be imprimitivity bimodules for the cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras of the involved Fell bundles. We show that amenability is preser…
We give a dynamical characterization of categorical Morita equivalence between compact quantum groups. More precisely, by a Tannaka-Krein type duality, a unital C*-algebra endowed with commuting actions of two compact quantum groups corresponds to a bimodule category over their representation categories. We show that this bimodule category is invertible if and only if the actions are free, with finite dimensional fixed point algebras, which are in duality as Frobenius algebras in an appropriate sense. This extends the well-known characterization of monoidal equivalence in terms of bi-Hopf-Galo…
In this paper, we will introduce notions of relative version of imprimitivity bimodules and relative version of strong Morita equivalence for pairs of $C^*$-algebras $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{D})$ such that $\mathcal{D}$ is a $C^*$-subalgebra of $\mathcal{A}$ with certain conditions. We will then prove that two pairs $(\mathcal{A}_1, \mathcal{D}_1)$ and $(\mathcal{A}_2, \mathcal{D}_2)$ are relatively Morita equivalent if and only if their relative stabilizations are isomorphic. In particularly, for two pairs $(\mathcal{O}_A, \mathcal{D}_A)$ and $(\mathcal{O}_B, \mathcal{D}_B)$ of Cuntz--Krieger …
We show that two operator algebras are strongly Morita equivalent (in the sense of Blecher, Muhly and Paulsen) if and only if their categories of operator modules are equivalent via completely contractive functors. Moreover, any such functor is completely isometrically isomorphic to the Haagerup tensor product (= interior tensor product) with a strong Morita equivalence bimodule.
We establish a description of the maximal C*-algebra of quotients of a unital C*-algebra $A$ as a direct limit of spaces of completely bounded bimodule homomorphisms from certain operator submodules of the Haagerup tensor product $A\otimes_h A$ labelled by the essential closed right ideals of $A$ into $A$. In addition the invariance of the construction of the maximal C*-algebra of quotients under strong Morita equivalence is proved.
Let $A$ and $B$ be $σ$-unital $C^*$-algebras and $X$ and $Y$ an $A-A$-equivalence bimodule and a $B-B$-equivalence bimodule, respectively. Also, let $A\rtimes_X \mathbb{Z}$ and $B\rtimes_Y \mathbb{Z}$ be the crossed products of $A$ and $B$ by $X$ and $Y$, respectively. Furthermore, let $A\subset A\rtimes_X \mathbb{Z}$ and $B\subset B\rtimes_Y \mathbb{Z}$ be the inclusions of $C^*$-algebras induced by $X$ and $Y$, respectively. We suppose that $A' \cap M(A\rtimes_X \mathbb{Z})=\mathbb{C} 1$. In this paper we shall show that the inclusions $A\subset A\rtimes_X \mathbb{Z}$ and $B\subset B\rtimes_…
Let $θ, θ'$ be irrational numbers and $A, B$ be matrices in $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$ of infinite order. We compute the $K$-theory of the crossed product $\mathcal{A}_θ\rtimes_A \mathbb{Z}$ and show that $\mathcal{A}_θ \rtimes_A\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{θ'} \rtimes_B \mathbb{Z}$ are $*$-isomorphic if and only if $θ= \pmθ' \pmod{\mathbb{Z}}$ and $I-A^{-1}$ is matrix equivalent to $I-B^{-1}$. Combining this result and an explicit construction of equivariant bimodules, we show that $\mathcal{A}_θ \rtimes_A\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{θ'} \rtimes_B \mathbb{Z}$ are Morita equivalent if and only if $θ…
We generalize the main theorem of Rieffel for Morita equivalence of W*-algebras to the case of unital dual operator algebras: two unital dual operator algebras A and B have completely isometric normal representations alpha, beta such that alpha(A) is the w*-closed span of M*beta(B)M and beta(B) is the w*-closed span of Malpha(A)M* for a ternary ring of operators M (i.e. a linear space M such that MM*M \subset M if and only if there exists an equivalence functor $F:_{A}M\to_{B}M$ which "extends" to a *-functor implementing an equivalence between the categories $_{A}DM$ and $_{B}DM.$ By $_{A}M$ …
We introduce a notion of Morita equivalence for non-selfadjoint operator algebras equipped with a completely isometric involution (operator *-algebras). We then show that the unbounded Kasparov product by a Morita equivalence bimodule induces an isomorphism between equivalence classes of twisted spectral triples over Morita equivalent operator *-algebras. This leads to a tentative definition of unbounded bivariant K-theory and we prove that this bivariant theory is related to Kasparov's bivariant K-theory via the Baaj-Julg bounded transform. Moreover, the unbounded Kasparov product provides a …
We prove that two dual operator algebras are weak$^*$ Morita equivalent if and only if they have equivalent categories of dual operator modules via completely contractive functors which are also weak$^*$-continuous on appropriate morphism spaces. Moreover, in a fashion similar to the operator algebra case, we characterize such functors as the module normal Haagerup tensor product with an appropriate weak$^*$ Morita equivalence bimodule. We also develop the theory of the $W^*$-dilation, which connects the non-selfadjoint dual operator algebra with the $W^*$-algebraic framework. In the case of w…
For each $α\in (0,1)$, $A_α$ denotes the universal $C^*$-algebra generated by two unitaries $u$ and $v$, which satisfy the commutation relation $uv=\exp (2πiα)vu$. We consider the order four automorphism $σ$ of $A_α$ defined by $σ(u)=v$, $σ(v)=u^{-1}$ and describe a method for constructing projections in the fixed point algebra $A_α^σ$, using Rieffel's imprimitivity bimodules and Jacobi's theta functions. In the case $α=q^{-1}$, $q\in {\mathbf Z}$, $q\geq 2$, we give explicit formulae for such projections and find a lower bound for the norm of the Harper operator $u+u^* +v+v^*$.
We point out a connection between Gabor analysis and noncommutative analysis. Especially, the strong Morita equivalence of noncommutative tori appears as underlying setting for Gabor analysis, since the construction of equivalence bimodules for noncommutative tori has a natural formulation in the notions of Gabor analysis. As an application we show that Feichtinger's algebra is such an equivalence bimodule. Furthermore, we present Connes's construction of projective modules for noncommutative tori and the relevance of a generalization of Wiener's lemma for twisted convolution by Gröchenig and …
The curvature of the noncommutative torus $T^2_θ$ ($θ$ irrational) endowed with a noncommutative conformal metric has been the focus of attention of several recent works. Continuing the approach taken in the paper [A. Connes and H. Moscovici, http://arxiv.org/abs/1110.3500] we extend the study of the curvature to twisted Dirac spectral triples constructed out of Heisenberg bimodules that implement the Morita equivalence of the $C^*$-algebra $A_θ= C(T^2_θ)$ with other toric algebras $A_{θ'}$. In the enlarged context the conformal metric on $T^2_θ$ is exchanged with an arbitrary Hermitian metric…
Any etale Lie groupoid G is completely determined by its associated convolution algebra C_c(G) equipped with the natural Hopf algebroid structure. We extend this result to the generalized morphisms between etale Lie groupoids: we show that any principal H-bundle P over G is uniquely determined by the associated C_c(G)-C_c(H)-bimodule C_c(P) equipped with the natural coalgebra structure. Furthermore, we prove that the functor C_c gives an equivalence between the Morita category of etale Lie groupoids and the Morita category of locally grouplike Hopf algebroids.
