The Maximal C*-Algebra of Quotients as an Operator Bimodule

C*-algebras associated to product systems of Hilbert bimodules

Let (G,P) be a quasi-lattice ordered group and let X be a compactly aligned product system over P of Hilbert bimodules. Under mild hypotheses we associate to X a C*-algebra which we call the Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebra of X. Our construction generalises a number of others: a sub-class of Fowler's Cuntz-Pimsner algebras for product systems of Hilbert bimodules; Katsura's formulation of Cuntz-Pimsner algebras of Hilbert bimodules; the C*-algebras of finitely aligned higher-rank graphs; and Crisp and Laca's boundary quotients of Toeplitz algebras. Mansfield's imprimitivity theorem for full crossed products

For any maximal coaction (A, G, delta) and any closed normal subgroup N of G, there exists an imprimitivity bimodule Y between the full crossed product A x G x N and A x G/N, together with a compatible coaction delta_Y of G. The assignment (A, delta) -> (Y, delta_Y) implements a natural equivalence between the crossed-product functors "x G x N" and "x G/N", in the category whose objects are maximal coactions of G and whose morphisms are isomorphism classes of right-Hilbert bimodule coactions of G.

On maximal tensor products and quotient maps of operator systems

We introduce quotient maps in the category of operator systems and show that the maximal tensor product is projective with respect to them. Whereas, the maximal tensor product is not injective, which makes the $({\rm el},\max)-nuclearity distinguish a class in the category of operator systems. Subalgebras of the Cuntz C^*-Algebra

In this paper we exploit the fact that a Cuntz C$^*$-algebra is a groupoid C$^*$-algebra to facilitate the study of non-self-adjoint subalgebras of $O_n$. The Cuntz groupoid is not principal and the spectral theorem for bimodules does not apply in full generality. We characterize the bimodules (over a natural masa) which are determined by their spectra in the Cuntz groupoid; these are exactly the ones which are invariant under the guage automorphisms and exactly the ones which are generated by the Cuntz partial isometries which they contain. Maximal C*-algebras of quotients and injective envelopes of C*-algebras

A new C*-enlargement of a C*-algebra $A$ nested between the local multiplier algebra $M_{\text{loc}}(A)$ of $A$ and its injective envelope $I(A)$ is introduced. Various aspects of this maximal C*-algebra of quotients, $Q_{\text{max}}(A)$, are studied, notably in the setting of AW*-algebras. As a by-product we obtain a new example of a type I C*-algebra $A$ such that $M_{\text{loc}}(M_{\text{loc}}(A))\ne M_{\text{loc}}(A)$.

Crossed Products by Dual Coactions of Groups and Homogeneous Spaces

Mansfield showed how to induce representations of crossed products of C*-algebras by coactions from crossed products by quotient groups and proved an imprimitivity theorem characterising these induced representations. We give an alternative construction of his bimodule in the case of dual coactions, based on the symmetric imprimitivity theorem of the third author; this provides a more workable way of inducing representations of crossed products of C*-algebras by dual coactions. For a discrete metric space (or more generally a large scale space) $X$ and an action of a group $G$ on $X$ by coarse equivalences, we define a type of coarse quotient space $X_G$, which agrees up to coarse equivalence with the orbit space $X/G$ when $G$ is finite. We study distinguished subalgebras and automorphisms of boundary quotients arising from algebraic dynamical systems $(G,P,θ)$. Our work includes a complete solution to the problem of extending Bogolubov automorphisms from the Cuntz algebra in $2 \leq p<\infty$ generators to the $p$-adic ring $C^*$-algebra. For the case where $P$ is abelian and $C^*(G)$ is a maximal abelian subalgebra, we establish a picture for the automorphisms of the boundary quotient that fix $C^*(G)$ pointwise.
