For a Hopf algebra A, we define the structures of differential complexes on two dual exterior Hopf algebras: 1) an exterior extension of A and 2) an exterior extension of the dual algebra A^*. The Heisenberg double of these two exterior Hopf algebras defines the differential algebra for the Cartan differential calculus on A. The first differential complex is an analog of the de Rham complex. In the situation when A^* is a universal enveloping of a Lie (super)algebra the second complex coincides with the standard complex. The differential is realized as an (anti)commutator with a BRST- operator Q. A recurrent relation which defines uniquely the operator Q is given. The BRST and anti-BRST operators are constructed explicitly and the Hodge decomposition theorem is formulated for the case of the quantum Lie algebra U_q(gl(N)).
Quantum Lie algebras (an important class of quadratic algebras arising in the Woronowicz calculus on quantum groups) are generalizations of Lie (super) algebras. Many notions from the theory of Lie (super)algebras admit ``quantum'' generalizations. In particular, there is a BRST operator Q (Q^2=0) which generates the differential in the Woronowicz theory and gives information about (co)homologies of quantum Lie algebras. In our previous papers a recurrence relation for the operator Q for quantum Lie algebras was given and solved. Here we consider the bar complex for q-Lie algebras and its subc…
In this paper we investigate the compatibility of the BRST reduction procedure with the Hermiticity of star products. First, we introduce the generalized notion of abstract BRST algebras with corresponding involutions. In this setting we define adjoint BRST differentials and as a consequence one gets new BRST quotients. Passing to the quantum BRST setting we show that for compact Lie groups the new quantum BRST quotient and the quantum BRST cohomology are isomorphic in zero degree implying that reduction is compatible with Hermiticity.
We study in detail the semi-infinite or BRST cohomology of general affine Lie algebras. This cohomology is relevant in the BRST approach to gauged WZNW models. We prove the existence of an infinite sequence of elements in the cohomology for non-zero ghost numbers. This will imply that the BRST approach to topological WZNW model admits many more states than a conventional coset construction. This conclusion also applies to some non-topological models. Our work will also contain results on the structure of Verma modules over affine Lie algebras. In particular, we generalize the results of Verma …
The quantum double for the quantized BRST superalgebra is studied. The corresponding R-matrix is explicitly constucted. The Hopf algebras of the double form an analytical variety with coordinates described by the canonical deformation parameters. This provides the possibility to construct the nontrivial quantization of the proper time supergroup cotangent bundle. The group-like classical limit for this quantization corresponds to the generic super Lie bialgebra of the double.
The study of quantum Lie algebras motivates a use of non-canonical ghosts and anti-ghosts for non-linear algebras, like W-algebras. This leads, for the W_3 and W_3^(2) algebras, to the BRST operator having the conventional cubic form.
In this article we consider quantum phase space reduction when zero is a regular value of the momentum map. By analogy with the classical case we define the BRST cohomology in the framework of deformation quantization. We compute the quantum BRST cohomology in terms of a `quantum' Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology of the Lie algebra on the constraint surface. To prove this result, we construct an explicit chain homotopy, both in the classical and quantum case, which is constructed out of a prolongation of functions on the constraint surface. We have observed the phenomenon that the quantum BRST c…
On every split supermanifold equipped with the Rothstein even super-Poisson bracket we construct a deformation quantization by means of a Fedosov-type procedure. In other words, the supercommutative algebra of all smooth sections of the dual Grassmann algebra bundle of an arbitrarily given vector bundle E (equipped with a fibre metric) over a symplectic manifold M will be deformed by a series of bidifferential operators having first order supercommutator proportional to the Rothstein superbracket. Moreover, we discuss two constructions related to the above result, namely the quantized BRST-coh…
The aim of this lecture is to give a pedagogical explanation of the notion of a Poisson Lie structure on the external algebra of a Poisson Lie group which was introduced in our previous papers. Using this notion as a guide we construct quantum external algebras on $SL_q(N)$ with proper (classical) dimension.
We construct a calculus structure on the Lie conformal algebra cochain complex. By restricting to degree one chains, we recover the structure of a g-complex introduced in [DSK]. A special case of this construction is the variational calculus, for which we provide explicit formulas.
The bicovariant differential calculus on the three-dimensional Kappa-Poincar'e group and the corresponding Lie-algebra structure are described. The equivalence of this Lie-algebra structure and the three-dimensional $κ$-Poincaré algebra is proved.
The bicovariant differential calculus on fourdimensional kappa-Poincare group and corresponding Lie-algebra like structure for any metric tensor are described. The bicovariant differential calculus on four-dimensional kappa-Weyl group and corresponding Lie-algebra like structure for any matric tensor in the reference frame in which $g_{00}=0$ are considered.
For a quantum Lie algebra $Γ$, let $Γ^\wedge$ be its exterior extension (the algebra $Γ^\wedge$ is canonically defined). We introduce a differential on the exterior extension algebra $Γ^\wedge$ which provides the structure of a complex on $Γ^{\wedge}$. In the situation when $Γ$ is a usual Lie algebra this complex coincides with the "standard complex". The differential is realized as a commutator with a (BRST) operator $Q$ in a larger algebra $Γ^\wedge[Ω]$, with extra generators canonically conjugated to the exterior generators of $Γ^{\wedge}$. A recurrent relation which defines uniquely the op…
We introduce a Z$_3$-graded quantum $(2+1)$-superspace and define Z$_3$-graded Hopf algebra structure on algebra of functions on the Z$_3$-graded quantum superspace. We construct a differential calculus on the Z$_3$-graded quantum superspace, and obtain the corresponding Z$_3$-graded Lie superalgebra. We also find a new Z$_3$-graded quantum supergroup which is a symmetry group of this calculus.
A Cartan Calculus of Lie derivatives, differential forms, and inner derivations, based on an undeformed Cartan identity, is constructed. We attempt a classification of various types of quantum Lie algebras and present a fairly general example for their construction, utilizing pure braid methods, proving orthogonality of the adjoint representation and giving a (Killing) metric and the quadratic casimir. A reformulation of the Cartan calculus as a braided algebra and its extension to quantum planes, directly and induced from the group calculus, are provided.
Super Hopf algebra structure on the function algebra on the extended quantum superspace has been defined. It is given a bicovariant differential calculus on the superspace. The corresponding (quantum) Lie superalgebra of vector fields and its Hopf algebra structure are obtained. The dual Hopf algebra is explicitly constructed. A new quantum supergroup that is the symmetry group of the differential calculus is found.
In order to unify the methods which have been applied to various topics such as BRST theory of constraints, Poisson brackets of local functionals, and certain developments in deformation theory, we formulate a new concept which we call the {\it chain extension} of a $D$-algebra. We develop those aspects of this new idea which are central to applications to algebra and physics. Chain extensions may be regarded as generalizations of ordinary algebraic extensions of Lie algebras. Applications of our theory provide a new constructive approach to BRST theories which only contains three terms; in pa…
We classify all 4-dimensional first order bicovariant calculi on the Jordanian quantum group GL_{h,g}(2) and all 3-dimensional first order bicovariant calculi on the Jordanian quantum group SL_{h}(2). In both cases we assume that the bicovariant bimodules are generated as left modules by the differentials of the quantum group generators. It is found that there are 3 1-parameter families of 4-dimensional bicovariant first order calculi on GL_{h,g}(2) and that there is a single, unique, 3-dimensional bicovariant calculus on SL_{h}(2). This 3-dimensional calculus may be obtained through a classic…
The non-commutative differential calculus on quantum groups can be extended by introducing, in analogy with the classical case, inner product operators and Lie derivatives. For the case of $\GL$ we show how this extended calculus induces by coaction a similar extended calculus, covariant under $\GL$, on the quantum plane. In this way, inner product operators and Lie derivatives can be introduced on the plane as well. The situation with other quantum groups and quantum spaces is briefly discussed. Explicit formulas are given for the two dimensional quantum plane.
Some general theorems are established on the local BRST cohomology for not necessarily Lagrangian gauge theories. Particular attention is given to the BRST groups with direct physical interpretation. Among other things, the groups of rigid symmetries and conservation laws are shown to be still connected, though less tightly than in the Lagrangian theory. The connection is provided by the elements of another local BRST cohomology group whose elements are identified with Lagrange structures. This extends the cohomological formulation of the Noether theorem beyond the scope of Lagrangian dynamics…
We develop graphical calculation methods. Jones-Wenzl projectors for U_q(sl(2,C)) are very powerful tools to find not only invariants of links but also invariants of 3-manifolds. We find single clasp expansions of generalized Jones-Wenzl projectors for simple Lie algebras of rank 2. Trihedron coefficients of the representation theory for U_q(sl(2,C)) has significant meaning and it is called 3j symbols. Using single clasp expansions for U_q(sl(3,C)), we find some trihedron coefficients of the representation theory of U_q(sl(3,C)). We study representation theory for U_q(sl(4,C)). We conjecture a…
To give a Cartan calculus on the extended quantum 3d space, the noncommutative differential calculus on the extended quantum 3d space is extended by introducing inner derivations and Lie derivatives.
A rigid framework for the Cartan calculus of Lie derivatives, inner derivations, functions, and forms is proposed. The construction employs a semi-direct product of two graded Hopf algebras, the respective super-extensions of the deformed universal enveloping algebra and the algebra of functions on a quantum group. Relations in the Cartan calculus follow as consistency conditions. The approach is not a priori based on the Leibniz rule for the exterior derivative and might hence also be of interest in the recent work on its deformations. The Cartan identity for the Lie derivatives is proven. (T…
A generalization of the differential geometry of forms and vector fields to the case of quantum Lie algebras is given. In an abstract formulation that incorporates many existing examples of differential geometry on quantum groups, we combine an exterior derivative, inner derivations, Lie derivatives, forms and functions all into one big algebra. In particular we find a generalized Cartan identity that holds on the whole quantum universal enveloping algebra of the left-invariant vector fields and implicit commutation relations for a left-invariant basis of 1-forms.
We extend the universal differential calculus on an arbitrary Hopf algebra to a ``universal Cartan calculus''. This is accomplished by introducing inner derivations and Lie derivatives which act on the elements of the universal differential envelope. A new algebra is formulated by incorporating these new objects into the universal differential calculus together with consistent commutation relations. We also explain how to include nontrivial commutation relations into this formulation to obtain the ``generalized Cartan calculus''.
The bicovariant differential calculus on the four-dimensional kappa-Poincare group and the corresponding Lie-algebra like structure are described. The deifferential calculus on the n-dimensional kappa-Minkowski space covariant under the action of the kappa-Poincare group is constructed.
We propose an operadic framework suitable for describing algebraic structures with operations being multilinear differential operators of varying orders or, more generally, formal series of such operators. The framework is built upon the notion of a multifiltration of a linear operad generalizing the concept of a filtration of an associative algebra. We describe a particular way of constructing and analyzing multifiltrations based on a presentation of a linear operad in terms of generators and relations. In particular, that allows us to observe a special role played in this context by Lie, Lie…
We introduce higher-order (or multibracket) simple Lie algebras that generalize the ordinary Lie algebras. Their `structure constants' are given by Lie algebra cohomology cocycles which, by virtue of being such, satisfy a suitable generalization of the Jacobi identity. Finally, we introduce a nilpotent, complete BRST operator associated with the l multibracket algebras which are based on a given simple Lie algebra of rank l.
The Hochschild homology/cohomology an associative algebra, together with the Connes differential, the contraction map and the Lie derivative, forms the structure of calculus. In this paper we compute explicitely the calculus structure of preprojective algebras of Dynkin quivers over a field of characteristic zero. This also completes the work in math.AG/0502301, where the Batalin-Vilkovisky structure of the Hochschild cohomology of preprojective algebras of non-Dynkin quivers are computed and the calculus can be easily computed from that.
We find an interpretation of the complex of variational calculus in terms of the Lie conformal algebra cohomology theory. This leads to a better understanding of both theories. In particular, we give an explicit construction of the Lie conformal algebra cohomology complex, and endow it with a structure of a g-complex. On the other hand, we give an explicit construction of the complex of variational calculus in terms of skew-symmetric poly-differential operators.
The spaces of linear differential operators on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ acting on tensor densities of degree $λ$ and the space of functions on $T^*{\mathbb{R}}^n$ which are polynomial on the fibers are not isomorphic as modules over the Lie algebra $\Vect({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ of vector fields on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$. However, these modules are isomorphic as $sl(n+1,{\mathbb{R}})$-modules where $sl(n+1,{\mathbb{R}})\subset \Vect({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ is the Lie algebra of infinitesimal projective transformations. In addition, such an $sl_{n+1}$-equivariant bijection is unique (up to normalization). This leads to a …
A general construction of an sh Lie algebra from a homological resolution of a Lie algebra is given. It is applied to the space of local functionals equipped with a Poisson bracket, induced by a bracket for local functions along the lines suggested by Gel'fand, Dickey and Dorfman. In this way, higher order maps are constructed which combine to form an sh Lie algebra on the graded differential algebra of horizontal forms. The same construction applies for graded brackets in field theory such as the Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky bracket of the Hamiltonian BRST theory or the Batalin-Vilkovisky antib…
We show that the associative algebra structure can be incorporated in the BRST quantization formalism for gauge theories such that extension from the corresponding Lie algebra to the associative algebra is achieved using operator quantization of reducible gauge theories. The BRST differential that encodes the associativity of the algebra multiplication is constructed as a second-order quadratic differential operator on the bar resolution.
We construct a deformation of the quantum algebra Fun(T^*G) associated with Lie group G to the case where G is replaced by a quantum group G_q which has a bicovariant calculus. The deformation easily allows for the inclusion of the current algebra of left and right invariant one forms. We use it to examine a possible generalization of the Gauss law commutation relations for gauge theories based on G_q.
It is shown that the non-trivial cocycles on simple Lie algebras may be used to introduce antisymmetric multibrackets which lead to higher-order Lie algebras, the definition of which is given. Their generalised Jacobi identities turn out to be satisfied by the antisymmetric tensors (or higher-order `structure constants') which characterise the Lie algebra cocycles. This analysis allows us to present a classification of the higher-order simple Lie algebras as well as a constructive procedure for them. Our results are synthesised by the introduction of a single, complete BRST operator associated…
