We find an interpretation of the complex of variational calculus in terms of the Lie conformal algebra cohomology theory. This leads to a better understanding of both theories. In particular, we give an explicit construction of the Lie conformal algebra cohomology complex, and endow it with a structure of a g-complex. On the other hand, we give an explicit construction of the complex of variational calculus in terms of skew-symmetric poly-differential operators.
In this paper, we first recall the notion of (noncommutative) Poisson conformal algebras and describe some constructions of them. Then we study the formal distribution (noncommutative) Poisson algebras and coefficient (noncommutative) Poisson algebras. Next, we introduce the notion of conformal formal deformations of commutative associative conformal algebras and show that Poisson conformal algebras are the corresponding semi-classical limits. At last, we develop the cohomology theory of noncommutative Poisson conformal algebras and use this cohomology to study their deformations.
We compute the low dimensional cohomologies $\tilde H^q(gc_N,C)$, $H^q(gc_N,\C)$ of the infinite rank general Lie conformal algebras $gc_N$ with trivial coefficients for $q\le3, N=1$ or $q\le2, N\ge2$. We also prove that the cohomology of $gc_N$ with coefficients in its natural module is trivial, i.e., $H^*(gc_N,\C[\ptl]^N)=0$; thus partially solve an open problem of Bakalov-Kac-Voronov in [{\it Comm. Math. Phys.,} {\bf200} (1999), 561-598].
In this paper, we introduce the notion of BiHom-Lie conformal superalgebras. We develop its representation theory and define the cohomology group with coefficients in a module. Finally, we introduce conformal derivations of BiHom-Lie conformal superalgebras and study some of their properties.
We give a characterization of conformal blocks in terms of the singular cohomology of suitable smooth projective varieties, in genus 0 for classical Lie algebras and $G_2$.
We construct a calculus structure on the Lie conformal algebra cochain complex. By restricting to degree one chains, we recover the structure of a g-complex introduced in [DSK]. A special case of this construction is the variational calculus, for which we provide explicit formulas.
We classify two-dimensional local conformal nets with parity symmetry and central charge less than 1, up to isomorphism. The maximal ones are in a bijective correspondence with the pairs of A-D-E Dynkin diagrams with the difference of their Coxeter numbers equal to 1. In our previous classification of one-dimensional local conformal nets, Dynkin diagrams D_{2n+1} and E_7 do not appear, but now they do appear in this classification of two-dimensional local conformal nets. Such nets are also characterized as two-dimensional local conformal nets with mu-index equal to 1 and central charge less th…
Conformal algebra is an axiomatic description of the operator product expansion of chiral fields in conformal field theory. On the other hand, it is an adequate tool for the study of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras satisfying the locality property. The main examples of such Lie algebras are those ``based'' on the punctured complex plane, like the Virasoro algebra and loop algebras. In the present paper we develop a cohomology theory of conformal algebras with coefficients in an arbitrary module. It possesses standard properties of cohomology theories; for example, it describes extensions and…
In this paper, we introduce the notions of crossed module of associative conformal algebras, 2-term strongly homotopy associative conformal algebras, and discuss the relationship between them and the 3-th Hochschild cohomology of associative conformal algebras. We classify the non-abelian extensions by introducing the non-abelian cohomology. We show that non-abelian extensions of an associative conformal algebra can be viewed as Maurer-Cartan elements of a suitable differential graded Lie algebra, and prove that the Deligne groupoid of this differential graded Lie algebra corresponds one to on…
We construct the quantum group $GL_q(2)$ as the semi-infinite cohomology of the tensor product of two braided vertex operator algebras based on the algebra $W_2$ with complementary central charges $c+\bar{c}=28$. The conformal field theory version of the Laplace operator on the quantum group is also obtained.
In this paper, we examine the analogy between topological string theory and equivariant cohomology. We also show that the equivariant cohomology of a topological conformal field theory carries a certain algebraic structure, which we call a gravity algebra. (Error on page 9 corrected: BRS current contains total derivatives.)
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the cohomology of various algebras over an operad of moduli spaces including the cohomology of conformal field theories (CFT's) and vertex operator algebras (VOA's). This cohomology theory produces a number of invariants of CFT's and VOA's, one of which is the space of their infinitesimal deformations.
In this paper we develop a new homology theory of associative algebras called semiinfinite cohomology in a derived category setting. We show that in the case of small quantum groups the zeroth semiinfinite cohomology of the trivial module is closely related to the conformal blocks' spaces. We provide a description of the semiinfinite cohomology spaces of the trivial module over a small quantum group in terms of distributions on the nilpotent cone of the corresponding semisimple Lie algebra.
In this paper, we introduce two kinds of Lie conformal algebras associated with the loop Schrödinger-Virasoro Lie algebra and the extended loop Schrödinger-Virasoro Lie algebra, respectively. The conformal derivations, the second cohomology groups of these two conformal algebras are completely determined. And nontrivial free conformal modules of rank one and Z-graded free intermediate series modules over these two conformal algebras are also classified in the present paper
Let $G$ be a filtered Lie conformal algebra whose associated graded conformal algebra is isomorphic to that of general conformal algebra $gc_1$. In this paper, we prove that $G\cong gc_1$ or ${\rm gr\,}gc_1$ (the associated graded conformal algebra of $gc_1$), by making use of some results on the second cohomology groups of the conformal algebra $\fg$ with coefficients in its module $M_{b,0}$ of rank 1, where $\fg=\Vir\ltimes M_{a,0}$ is the semi-direct sum of the Virasoro conformal algebra $\Vir$ with its module $M_{a,0}$. Furthermore, we prove that ${\rm gr\,}gc_1$ does not have a nontrivial…
Associative conformal algebras of conformal endomorphisms are of essential importance for the study of finite representations of conformal Lie algebras (Lie vertex algebras). We describe all semisimple algebras of conformal endomorphisms which have the trivial second Hochschild cohomology group with coefficients in every conformal bimodule. As a consequence, we state a complete solution of the radical splitting problem in the class of associative conformal algebras with a finite faithful representation.
We define and study the cohomology theories associated to A-infinity algebras and cyclic A-infinity algebras equipped with an involution, generalising dihedral cohomology to the A-infinity context. Such algebras arise, for example, as unoriented versions of topological conformal field theories. It is well known that Hochschild cohomology and cyclic cohomology govern, in a precise sense, the deformation theory of A-infinity algebras and cyclic A-infinity algebras and we give analogous results for the deformation theory in the presence of an involution. We also briefly discuss generalisations of…
In 1993, Lian-Zuckerman constructed two cohomology operations on the BRST complex of a conformal vertex algebra with central charge 26. They gave explicit generators and relations for the cohomology algebra equipped with these operations in the case of the c=1 model. In this paper, we describe another such example, namely, the semi-infinite Weil complex of the Virasoro algebra. The semi-infinite Weil complex of a tame Z-graded Lie algebra was defined in 1991 by Feigin-Frenkel, and they computed the linear structure of its cohomology in the case of the Virasoro algebra. We build on this result …
In this paper, we present a formal variational calculus of super functions in one real variable and find the conditions for a "matrix differential operator" to be a Hamiltonian superoperator. Moreover, we prove that conformal superalgebras are equivalent to certain Hamiltonian superoperators.
This is the third of a series of papers on a new equivariant cohomology that takes values in a vertex algebra, and contains and generalizes the classical equivariant cohomology of a manifold with a Lie group action a la H. Cartan. In this paper, we compute this cohomology for spheres and show that for any simple connected group G, there is a sphere with infinitely many actions of G which have distinct chiral equivariant cohomology, but identical classical equivariant cohomology. Unlike the classical case, the description of the chiral equivariant cohomology of spheres requires a substantial am…
It is typical for a semi-infinite cohomology complex associated with a graded Lie algebra to occur as a vertex operator (or chiral) superalgebra where all the standard operators of cohomology theory, in particular the differential, are modes of vertex operators (fields). Although vertex operator superalgebras -with the inherent Virasoro action- are regarded as part of Conformal Field Theory (CFT), a VOSA may exhibit a square-zero operator (often, but not always, the semi-infinite cohomology differential) for which the Virasoro algebra acts trivially in the cohomology. Capable of shedding its C…
