The work is devoted to the extension groups in the category of functors from a small category to an additive category with an Abelian structure in the sense of Heller. It is constructed a spectral sequence which converges to the extension group. Example for diagrams of locally convex spaces is given.
In this mainly expository note, we state a criterion for when a left Kan extension of a lax monoidal functor along a strong monoidal functor can itself be equipped with a lax monoidal structure, in a way that results in a left Kan extension in MonCat. This belongs to the general theory of algebraic Kan extensions, as developed by Melliès-Tabareau, Koudenburg and Weber, and is very close to an instance of a theorem of Koudenburg. We find this special case particularly important due to its connections with the theory of graded monads.
We develop and extend the theory of Mackey functors as an application of enriched category theory. We define Mackey functors on a lextensive category $\E$ and investigate the properties of the category of Mackey functors on $\E$. We show that it is a monoidal category and the monoids are Green functors. Mackey functors are seen as providing a setting in which mere numerical equations occurring in the theory of groups can be given a structural foundation. We obtain an explicit description of the objects of the Cauchy completion of a monoidal functor and apply this to examine Morita equivalence …
A theory of a derivator version of six-functor-formalisms is developed, using an extension of the notion of fibered multiderivator due to the author. Using the language of (op)fibrations of 2-multicategories this has (like a usual fibered multiderivator) a very neat definition. This definition not only encodes all compatibilities among the six functors but also their interplay with homotopy Kan extensions. One could say: a nine-functor-formalism. This is essential for dealing with (co)descent questions. Finally, it is shown that every fibered multiderivator (for example encoding any kind of de…
A criterion for comonadicity of the extension-of- scalars functor associated to an extension of (not necessarily commutative) rings is given. As an application of this criterion, some known results on the comonadicity of such functors are obtained.
Protoadditive functors are designed to replace additive functors in a non-abelian setting. Their properties are studied, in particular in relationship with torsion theories, Galois theory, homology and factorisation systems. It is shown how a protoadditive torsion-free reflector induces a chain of derived torsion theories in the categories of higher extensions, similar to the Galois structures of higher central extensions previously considered in semi-abelian homological algebra. Such higher central extensions are also studied, with respect to Birkhoff subcategories whose reflector is protoadd…
Each Gr-functor of the type $(φ,f)$ of a Gr-category of the type $(Π,\C)$ has the obstruction be an element $\overline{k}\in H^3(Π,\C).$ When this obstruction vanishes, there exists a bijection between congruence classes of Gr-functors of the type $(φ,f)$ and the cohomology group $H^2(Π,\C).$ Then the relation of Gr-category theory and the group extension problem can be established and used to prove that each Gr-category is Gr-equivalent to a strict one.
For a finite group $G$, (semi-)Mackey functors and (semi-)Tambara functors are regarded as $G$-bivariant analogs of (semi-)groups and (semi-)rings respectively. In fact if $G$ is trivial, they agree with the ordinary (semi-)groups and (semi-)rings, and many naive algebraic properties concerning rings and groups have been extended to these $G$-bivariant analogous notions. In this article, we investigate a $G$-bivariant analog of the semi-group rings with coefficients. Just as a coefficient ring $R$ and a monoid $Q$ yield the semi-group ring $R[Q]$, our constrcution enables us to make a Tambara …
Any functor from the category of C*-algebras to the category of locales that assigns to each commutative C*-algebra its Gelfand spectrum must be trivial on algebras of nxn-matrices for n at least 3. This obstruction also applies to other spectra such as those named after Zariski, Stone, and Pierce. We extend these no-go results to functors with values in (ringed) topological spaces, (ringed) toposes, schemes, and quantales. The possibility of spectra in other categories is discussed.
In this paper, we consider a kind of ideal quotient of an extriangulated category such that the ideal is the kernel of a functor from this extriangulated category to an abelian category. We study a condition when the functor is dense and full, in another word, the ideal quotient becomes abelian. Moreover, a new equivalent characterization of cluster-tilting subcategories is given by applying homological methods according to this functor. As an application, we show that in a connected 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category B, a functorially finite, extension closed subcategory T of B is cluster til…
The purpose of this paper is to give a pair of canonical extensions of Mayer-Vietoris functors (e.g. homology or cohomology theories of spaces) to cospans of spaces. One of the pair, called cospanical extension in this paper, is closely related with the classical theory part of abelian Dijkgraaf-Witten-Freed-Quinn model and bicommutative Turaev-Viro-Barrett-Westbury model. We derive those extensions by revealing a partial universality of a cospan category of CW-spaces which is a homotopy-theoretic analogue of cobordism categories.
In this work we construct an extension for the category of 0-modules by analogy with [H.-J. Baues and G. Wirshing, Cohomology of small categories, J. Pure Appl. Algebra, 38(1985), 187-211]. The 0-cohomology functor becomes a derived functor in the extended category. As an application of this construction we calculate the cohomological dimension of so-called 0-free monoids.
The inclusion hyperspace functor, the capacity functor and monads for these functors have been extended from the category of compact Hausdorff spaces to the category of Tychonoff spaces. Properties of spaces and maps of inclusion hyperspaces and capacities (non-additive measures) on Tychonoff spaces are investigated.
A classification is provided of functors, in particular polynomial ones, from a category with a zero object in which every object is a finite sum of copies of a generating object, into an abelian category. This classification is extended to include functors from a category with sums and a zero object, carrying a small, regular projective generator.
Motivated in part by the study of the stable homology of automorphism groups of free groups, we consider cohomological calculations in the category $\mathcal{F}(\textbf{gr})$ of functors from finitely generated free groups to abelian groups. In particular, we compute the groups $Ext^*\_{\mathcal{F}(\textbf{gr})}(T^n \circ \mathfrak{a}, T^m \circ \mathfrak{a})$ where $\mathfrak{a}$ is the abelianization functor and $T^n$ is the n-th tensor power functor for abelian groups. These groups are shown to be non-zero if and only if $*=m-n \geq 0$ and $Ext^{m-n}\_{\mathcal{F}(\textbf{gr})}(T^n \circ \ma…
Let $C$ be an additive category with cokernels and let Mod($C$) be the category of additive functors from $C^{op}$ to the category Ab of abelian groups. Let mod($C$) be the full subcategory of Mod($C$) consisting of coherent functors. In this paper, we first study some basic properties of pseudo-kernel of morphisms in $C$. When $C$ has pseudo-kernels, mod($C$) is abelian and then, in this case, we study radical functors, half exact functors, left exact functors and injective objects in mod($C$). At last, we extend the results for Mod($C$).
In this paper, I give several characterizations of {\em rational biset functors over $p$-groups}, which are independent of the knowledge of genetic bases for $p$-groups. I also introduce a construction of new biset functors from known ones, which is similar to the Yoneda construction for representable functors, and to the Dress construction for Mackey functors, and I show that this construction preserves the class of rational $p$-biset functors.\par This leads to a characterization of rational $p$-biset functors as additive functors from a specific quotient category of the biset category to ab…
A notion of a coring extension is defined and it is related to the existence of an additive functor between comodule categories that factorises through forgetful functors. This correspondence between coring extensions and factorisable functors is illustrated by functors between categories of descent data. A category in which objects are corings and morphisms are coring extensions is also introduced.
This article represents a preliminary attempt to link Kan extensions, and some of their further developments, to Fourier theory and quantum algebra through *-autonomous monoidal categories and related structures.
In 1994, Long and Moody gave a construction on representations of braid groups which associates a representation of \mathbf{B}\_{n} with a representation of \mathbf{B}\_{n+1}. In this paper, we prove that this construction is functorial and can be extended: it inspires endofunctors, called Long-Moody functors, between the category of functors from Quillen's bracket construction associated with the braid groupoid to a module category. Then we study the effect of Long-Moody functors on strong polynomial functors: we prove that they increase by one the degree of very strong polynomiality.
We show that direct summands of certain additive functors arising as bifunctors with a fixed argument in an abelian category are again of that form whenever the fixed argument has finite length or, more generally, satisfies the descending chain condition on images of nested endomorphisms. In particular, this provides a positive answer to a conjecture of M. Auslander in the case of categories of finite modules over artin algebras. This implies that the covariant Ext functors are the only injectives in the category of defect-zero finitely presented functors on such categories.
We provide a simple proof of the existence of internal Homs in the localization of the category of dg categories with respect to all quasi-equivalences and of some of their main properties such as the so-called derived Morita theory. This was originally proved in a seminal paper by Toën.
Associated to each small category $C$, there is a category of $C$-shaped diagrams of simplicial sets and an $\infty$-category of $NC$-shaped homotopy coherent diagrams of spaces. We present a functor which exhibits the latter as the $\infty$-categorical localisation of the former at the objectwise weak homotopy equivalences. This builds on a Quillen equivalence between the projective and covariant model structures associated to $C$ due to Heuts-Moerdijk, as well as Cisinski's theory of $\infty$-categorical localisations. We use the localisation functor to give simplified proofs that the left (…
Let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p>0$. Call a finite group $G$ a poco group over $k$ if any finitely generated cohomological Mackey functor for $G$ over $k$ has polynomial growth. The main result of this paper is that $G$ is a poco group over $k$ if and only if the Sylow $p$-subgroups of $G$ are cyclic, when $p>2$, or have sectional rank at most 2, when $p=2$. A major step in the proof is the case where $G$ is an elementary abelian $p$-group. In particular, when $p=2$, all the extension groups between simple functors can be determined completely, using a presentation of the graded algebra…
