在他的论文“Religues of a Pfaff system relative to an invariant subscheme”(Trans.Amer.Math.

In his paper "Residues of a Pfaff system relative to an invariant subscheme" in Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 352, 2000, 4019-4035, F. Sancho de Salas defines the universal Koszul complex of a module $M$ over a sheaf of rings $\mathcal{O}$ as ${\rm Kos}(M)=Λ(M)\otimes_{\mathcal{O}}S(M)$, where $Λ(M)$ and $S(M)$ stand for the exterior and symmetric algebras of $M$, endowed with the usual differential, and he conjectures (Conjecture 2.3.) that ${\rm Kos}(M)$ is always acyclic. We give here an example of a non acyclic Koszul complex ${\rm Kos}(M)$.
We extend the theory of Koszul modules to the bi-graded case, and prove a vanishing theorem that allows us to show that the Canonical Ribbon Conjecture of Bayer and Eisenbud holds over a field of characteristic zero or at least equal to the Clifford index. Our results confirm a conjecture of Eisenbud and Schreyer regarding the characteristics where the generic statement of Green's conjecture holds. They also recover and extend to positive characteristics results due to Aprodu and Voisin asserting that Green's Conjecture holds for generic curves of each gonality.
We prove a strong vanishing result for finite length Koszul modules, and use it to derive Green's conjecture for every g-cuspidal rational curve over an algebraically closed field k with char(k) = 0 or char(k) >= (g+2)/2. As a consequence, we deduce that the general canonical curve of genus g satisfies Green's conjecture in this range. Our results are new in positive characteristic, whereas in characteristic zero they provide a different proof for theorems first obtained in two landmark papers by Voisin. Our strategy involves establishing two key results of independent interest: (1) we describ…
Differential modules are natural generalizations of complexes. In this paper, we study differential modules with complete intersection homology, comparing and contrasting the theory of these differential modules with that of the Koszul complex. We construct a Koszul differential module that directly generalizes the classical Koszul complex and investigate which properties of the Koszul complex can be generalized to this setting.
We discuss a class of modules, which we call $\underline{g}$-weak complete intersection modules, inspired by the weak complete intersection ideals studied by Rahmati, Striuli, and Yang and we present explicit formulas for the generators of Koszul homology with coefficients in a $\underline{g}$-weak complete intersection module. This generalizes work of Herzog and of Corso, Goto, Huneke, Polini, and Ulrich. We use these explicit formulas to study connections between $\underline{g}$-weak complete intersection ideals and weak complete intersection ideals.
Given a Serre class $\mathcal{S}$ of modules, we compare the containment of the Koszul homology, Ext modules, Tor modules, local homology, and local cohomology in $\mathcal{S}$ up to a given bound $s \geq 0$. As some applications, we give a full characterization of noetherian local homology modules. Further, we establish a comprehensive vanishing result which readily leads to the formerly known descriptions of the numerical invariants width and depth in terms of Koszul homology, local homology, and local cohomology. Also, we immediately recover a few renowned vanishing criteria scattered about…
For a local ring $(A,\mathfrak{m})$ of dimension $n$, we study the natural map from the Koszul cohomology module $H^n(\mathfrak{m}; A)$ to the local cohomology module $H^n_\mathfrak{m}(A)$. We prove that the injectivity of this map characterizes the Cohen-Macaulay property of the ring $A$. We also answer a question of Dutta by constructing normal rings $A$ for which this map is zero.
The linearity defect, introduced by Herzog and Iyengar, is a numerical measure for the complexity of minimal free resolutions. Employing a characterization of the linearity defect due to Şega, we study the behavior of linearity defect along short exact sequences. We point out two classes of short exact sequences involving Koszul modules, along which linearity defect behaves nicely. We also generalize the notion of Koszul filtrations from the graded case to the local setting. Among the applications, we prove that if $R\to S$ is a surjection of noetherian local rings such that $S$ is a Koszul $R…
Let $(R,m, κ)$ be a local ring. We give a characterization of $R$-modules $M$ whose local cohomology is finite length up to some index in terms of asymptotic vanishing of Koszul cohomology on parameter ideals up to the same index. In particular, we show that a quasi-unmixed module $M$ is asymptotically Cohen-Macaulay if and only if $M$ is Cohen-Macaulay on the punctured spectrum if and only if $\sup\{\ell(H^i(f_1, \ldots, f_d;M))\mid \sqrt{f_1, \ldots, f_d} = m \mbox{, } i< d\}<\infty$.
We extend the theory of Koszul and Buchsbaum-Eisenbud complexes to modules over commutative OI-algebras and show that they still have the familiar properties of the classical complexes. In particular, the OI-complexes are generically acyclic and often provide width-wise minimal free resolutions.
Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a Noetherian local ring, and let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module of dimension $d$. We prove that the set $\left\{\frac{l(M/IM)}{e(I, M)} \right\}_{\sqrt{I}=\mathfrak{m}}$ is bounded below by ${1}/{d!e(\overline{R})}$ where $\overline{R}=R/Ann(M)$. Moreover, when $\widehat{M}$ is equidimensional, this set is bounded above by a finite constant depending only on $M$. The lower bound extends a classical inequality of Lech, and the upper bound answers a question of Stückrad--Vogel in the affirmative. As an application, we obtain results on uniform behavior of the le…
This works concerns cohomological support varieties of modules over commutative local rings. The main result is that the support of a derived tensor product of a pair of differential graded modules over a Koszul complex is the join of the supports of the modules. This generalizes, and gives another proof of, a result of Dao and the third author dealing with Tor-independent modules over complete intersection rings. The result for Koszul complexes has a broader applicability, including to exterior algebras over local rings.
In this work, we prove that if a graded, commutative algebra $R$ over a field $k$ is not Koszul then, denoting by $\mathfrak{m}$ the maximal homogeneous ideal of $R$ and by $M$ a finitely generated graded $R$-module, the nonzero modules of the form $\mathfrak{m} M$ have infinite Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity. We also prove that over complete intersections which are not Koszul, a nonzero direct summand of a syzygy of $k$ has infinite regularity. Finally, we relate the vanishing of the graded deviations of $R$ to having a nonzero direct summand of a syzygy of $k$ of finite regularity.
In this paper we study graded Bourbaki ideals. It is a well-known fact that for torsionfree modules over Noetherian normal domains, Bourbaki sequences exist. We give criteria in terms of certain attached matrices for a homomorphism of modules to induce a Bourbaki sequence. Special attention is given to graded Bourbaki sequences. In the second part of the paper, we apply these results to the Koszul cycles of the residue class field and determine particular Bourbaki ideals explicitly. We also obtain in a special case the relationship between the structure of the Rees algebra of a Koszul cycle an…
Support and rank varieties of modules over a group algebra of an elementary abelian p-group have been well studied. In particular, Avrunin and Scott showed that in this setting, the rank and support varieties are equivalent. Avramov and Buchweitz proved an analogous result for pairs of modules over arbitrary commutative local complete intersection rings. In this paper we study support and rank varieties in the triangulated category of totally acyclic chain complexes over a complete intersection ring and show that these varieties are also equivalent.
It is widely known that the minimal free resolution of a module over a complete intersection ring has nice patterns eventually arising in its Betti sequence. In 1997, Avramov, Gasharov, and Peeva defined the notion of critical degree for finitely generated modules, proving that this degree is finite whenever the module has finite CI-dimension. This paper extends the notion of critical degree via complete resolutions, thus defining the critical and cocritical degrees of an object in the category of totally acyclic complexes over a complete intersection ring of the form $R=Q/(f_1,\dots,f_c)$. In…
