We give an explicit formula for the exponents (i.e. the spectra up to the shift by one) of an irreducible plane curve singularity in terms of Puiseux pairs. As an application we prove in this case Hertling's conjecture that the variance (i.e. the square of the standard deviation) of the exponents is bounded by the difference between the maximal and minimal exponents divided by 12.
The Poincare series of an irreducible plane curve singularity equals the zeta function of its monodromy, by a result of Campillo, Delgado and Gusein-Zade. We derive this fact from a formula of Ebeling and Gusein-Zade relating the Poincare series of a quasi-homogeneous complete intersection singularity to the Saito dual of a product of zeta functions.
Let ${\mathcal B}_u$ be the Springer fiber over a nilpotent endomorphism $u\in End(\mathbb{C}^n)$. Let $J(u)$ be the Jordan form of $u$ regarded as a partition of $n$. The irreducible components of ${\mathcal B}_u$ are all of the same dimension. They are labelled by Young tableaux of shape $J(u)$. We study the question of singularity of the components of ${\mathcal B}_u$ and show that all the components of ${\mathcal B}_u$ are nonsingular if and only if $J(u)\in\{(λ,1,1,...), (λ_1,λ_2), (λ_1,λ_2,1), (2,2,2)\}$.
We study the boundary behavior of the invariant of $K3^{[2]}$-type manifolds with antisymplectic involution, which we obtained using equivariant analytic torsion. We show the algebraicity of the singularity of the invariant by using the asymptotic of equivariant Quillen metrics and equivariant $L^2$-metrics. We prove that, in some cases, the invariant coincides with Yoshikawa's invariant for 2-elementary K3 surfaces. Hence, in these cases, our invariant is expressed as the Petersson norm of a Borcherds product and a Siegel modular form.
We show that the dimension of the set of limits of tangent spaces along a subvariety at an irreducible isolated singularity is one less than the dimension of the subvariety itself.
We provide an irreducibility test in the ring K[[x]][y] whose complexity is quasi-linear with respect to the valuation of the discriminant, assuming the input polynomial F square-free and K a perfect field of characteristic zero or greater than deg(F). The algorithm uses the theory of approximate roots and may be seen as a generalization of Abhyankhar's irreducibility criterion to the case of non algebraically closed residue fields. More generally, we show that we can test within the same complexity if a polynomial is pseudo-irreducible, a larger class of polynomials containing irreducible one…
We classify normal stable surfaces with $K_X^2 = 1$, $p_g = 2$ and $q=0$ with a unique singular point which is a non-canonical T-singularity, thus exhibiting two divisors in the main component and a new irreducible component of the moduli space of stable surfaces $\overline\gothM_{1,3}$.
The purpose of this paper is to give an explicit formula of the Łojasiewicz exponent of an isolated weighted homogeneous singularity in terms of its weights.
We study the classification of plane curve singularities in arbitrary characteristic. We first give a bound for the determinacy of a plane curve singularity with respect to pararametrization equivalence in terms of its conductor. Then we classify parametrization simple plane curve singularities which are irreducible by giving a concrete list of normal forms of equations and parametrizations. In characteristic zero, the classification of parametrization simple irreducible plane curve singularities was achieved by Bruce and Gaffney.
We describe the generic singularity of a Schubert variety of type A on each irreducible component of its singular locus. This singularity is given either by a cone of rank one matrices, or a quadratic cone.
In 1982, Yano proposed a conjecture predicting the $b$-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity which is generic in its equisingularity class. In this article we prove the conjecture for the case of two Puiseux pairs and monodromy with distinct eigenvalues. The hypothesis on the monodromy implies that the $b$-exponents coincide with the opposite of the roots of the Bernstein polynomial, and we compute the roots of the Bernstein polynomial.
In 1982, Tamaki Yano proposed a conjecture predicting the set of b-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity germ which is generic in its equisingularity class. In \cite{ACLM-Yano2} we proved the conjecture for the case in which the germ has two Puiseux pairs and its algebraic monodromy has distinct eigenvalues. In this article we aim to study the Bernstein polynomial for any function with the hypotheses above. In particular the set of all common roots of those Bernstein polynomials is given. We provide also bounds for some analytic invariants of singularities and illustrate the comp…
In 1993 David Vogan proposed a basis for the vector space of stable distributions on $p$-adic groups using the microlocal geometry of moduli spaces of Langlands parameters. In the case of general linear groups, distribution characters of irreducible admissible representations, taken up to equivalence, form a basis for the vector space of stable distributions. In this paper we show that these two bases, one putative, cannot be equal. Specifically, we use the Kashiwara-Saito singularity to find a non-Arthur type irreducible admissible representation of $p$-adic $\mathop{GL}_{16}$ whose ABV-packe…
In this note, we present a relationship between Lelong numbers and complex singularity exponents. As an application, we obtain a new proof of Siu's semicontinuity theorem for Lelong numbers.
We introduce complex singularity exponents of plurisubharmonic functions and prove a general semi-continuity result for them. This concept contains as a special case several similar concepts which have been considered e.g. by Arnold and Varchenko, mostly for the study of hypersurface singularities. The plurisubharmonic version is somehow based on a reduction to the algebraic case, but it also takes into account more quantitative informations of great interest for complex analysis and complex differential geometry. We give as an application a new derivation of criteria for the existence of Kähl…
In this new version, we add the proof of the main theorem when the central fiber is not necessarily simple normal crossing. We also correct some typos.
In this paper, we compute Alexander polynomials of a torus curve C of type (2, 5), C : f(x, y) = f_2(x, y)^5 + f_5(x, y)^2 = 0, under the assumption that the origin O is the unique inner singularity and f2 = 0 is an irreducible conic. We show that the Alexander polynomial remains the same with that of a generic torus curve as long as C is irreducible.
We study the space of arcs on a singularity of the form xy=f(z_1,..., z_n) and prove 2 main results. (i) The number of irreducible components equals the multiplicity of f minus 1. (ii) If n>1 and the leading homogeneous term of f is not a perfect square then the Nash map from the set of irreducible components to the set of essential divisors is not surjective.
In this article, we obtain two sharp equality conditions in the restriction formula on complex singularity exponents: an equality between the codimension of the zero variety of related multiplier ideal sheaves and the relative codimension of the restriction of the variety on the submanifold (in the restriction formula); an equivalence between the transversality (between the variety and the submanifold) and the regularity of the restriction of the variety. As applications, we present sharp equality conditions in the fundamental subadditivity property on complex singularity exponents.
We associate to any irreducible germ S of complex quasi-ordinary hypersurface an analytically invariant semigroup. We deduce a direct proof (without passing through their embedded topological invariance) of the analytical invariance of the normalized characteristic exponents. These exponents generalize the generic Newton-Puiseux exponents of plane curves. Incidentally, we give a toric description of the normalization morphism of the germ S.
We determine a one-to-one correspondence between Milnor fibers and minimal symplectic fillings of a quotient surface singularity (up to diffeomorphism type) by giving an explicit algorithm to compare them mainly via techniques from the minimal model program for 3-folds and Pinkham's negative weight smoothing. As by-products, we show that: -- Milnor fibers associated to irreducible components of the reduced versal deformation space of a quotient surface singularity are not diffeomorphic to each other with a few obvious exceptions. For this, we classify minimal symplectic fillings of a quotient …
Given a normal surface singularity $(X, Q)$ and a birational morphism to a non- singular surface $π: X \to S$, we investigate the local geometry of the exceptional divisor $L$ of $π$. We prove that the dimension of the tangent space to $L$ at $Q$ equals the number of exceptional components meeting at $Q$. Consequences relative to the existence of such birational projections contracting a prescribed number of irreducible curves are deduced. A new characterization of minimal singularities is obtained in these terms.
In this paper we give a positive answer to a question of Dimca and Greuel about the quotient between the Milnor and the Tjurina numbers for any irreducible germ of plane curve singularity. This result is based on a closed formula for the minimal Tjurina number of an equisingularity class in terms of the sequence of multiplicities of the strict transform along a resolution. The key points for the proof are previous results by Genzmer, Wall and Mattei.
We give examples of reducible characteristic cycles for irreducible Harish-Chandra modules for $\mathrm{U}(p,q)$ by analyzing a four-dimensional singular subvariety of $\mathbb{C}^8$. We relate this singularity to the Kashiwara-Saito singularity arising for Schubert varieties for ${\mathrm{GL}}(8,\mathbb{C})$ with reducible characteristic cycles, as well as recent related examples of Williamson. In particular, this gives another explanation of the simple highest weight modules for ${\mathfrak{g}}{\mathfrak{l}}(12,\mathbb{C})$ with reducible associated varieties that Williamson discovered.
We can associate with any irreducible curve singularity (ics) a numerical semigroup. Two ics are said to be equisingular if they have the same semigroup. Two equisingular ics have the same Milnor number. Conversely, The set of ics with a given Milnor number is a union of equisingular classes. Here we study ics from an algorithmic viewpoint, by using the notion of approximate roots. We give two algorithms: the first one constructs the canonical equation of a curve with a given semigroup. The second one gives the set of semigroups with a fixed Milnor number. The paper is backed by Maple and Math…
In 1982, Tamaki Yano proposed a conjecture predicting how is the set of $b$-exponents of an irreducible plane curve singularity germ which is generic in its equisingularity class. In 1986, Pi.~Cassou-Noguès proved the conjecture for the one Puiseux pair case. In a previous work the authors proved the conjecture for two Puiseux pairs germs whose complex algebraic monodromy has distinct eigenvalues. A natural problem induced by Yano's conjecture is, for a generic equisingular deformation of an isolated plane curve singularity germ to study how the set of $b$-exponents depends on the topology of …
Let $(X,0)\subset (\mathbb{C}^n,0)$ be an irreducible weighted homogeneous singularity curve and let $f:(X,0)\to(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ be a map germ finite, one-to-one and weighted homogeneous with the same weights of $(X,0)$. We show that $\mathscr{A}_e$-$codim(X,f)=μ_I(f)$, where $\mathscr{A}_e$-$codim(X,f)$ is the $\mathscr{A}_e$-codimension, i.e., the minimum number of parameters in a versal deformation and $μ_I(f)$ is the image Milnor number, i.e., the number of vanishing cycles in the image of a stabilisation of $f$.
The intersection of a complex plane curve with a small three-sphere surrounding one of its singularities is a non-trivial link. The refined punctual Hilbert schemes of the singularity parameterize subschemes supported at the singular point of fixed length and whose defining ideals have a fixed number of generators. We conjecture that the generating function of Euler characteristics of refined punctual Hilbert schemes is the HOMFLY polynomial of the link. The conjecture is verified for irreducible singularities y^k = x^n, whose links are the k,n torus knots, and for the singularity y^4 = x^7 - …
We show the existence of toric resolution tower for an irreducible curve singularity which is explicitly described by Tschirnhausen polynomials. We deduce for a smooth affine plane curve from its topology restrictions for its singularity at infinity. For instance, we discribe the singularities at infinity (up to equisingular deformation) for curves of genus 0,1 and 2. From this follows an extension of the Abhyankar-Moh-Suzuki theorem to genus 1 and 2.
Let $f: (\mathbb{C}^n,0) \rightarrow (\mathbb{C},0)$ be a semiquasihomogeneous function. We give a formula for the local Łojasiewicz exponent $\mathcal{L}_{0}(f)$ of $f$, in terms of weights of $f$. In particular, in the case of a quasihomogeneous isolated singularity $f$, we generalize a formula for $\mathcal{L}_{0}(f)$ of Krasiński, Oleksik and Płoski ([KOP09]) from $3$ to $n$ dimensions. This was previously announced in [TYZ10], but as a matter of fact it has not been proved correctly there, as noticed by the AMS reviewer T. Krasiński. As a consequence of our result, we get that the Łojasie…
The free singularity locus of a noncommutative polynomial f is defined to be the sequence $Z_n(f)=\{X\in M_n^g : \det f(X)=0\}$ of hypersurfaces. The main theorem of this article shows that f is irreducible if and only if $Z_n(f)$ is eventually irreducible. A key step in the proof is an irreducibility result for linear pencils. Apart from its consequences to factorization in a free algebra, the paper also discusses its applications to invariant subspaces in perturbation theory and linear matrix inequalities in real algebraic geometry.
The universal enveloping algebra of any simple Lie algebra g contains a family of commutative subalgebras, called the quantum shift of argument subalgebras math.RT/0606380, math.QA/0612798. We prove that generically their action on finite-dimensional modules is diagonalizable and their joint spectra are in bijection with the set of monodromy-free opers for the Langlands dual group of G on the projective line with regular singularity at one point and irregular singularity of order two at another point. We also prove a multi-point generalization of this result, describing the spectra of commutin…
