If M is a riemannian manifold, then the inclusion of the complex of coclosed harmonic forms into the de Rham complex induces a linear isomorphism in cohomology. If M has at most countably many connected components, this linear isomorphism is a Frechet isomorphism.
In this paper, we study the existence of Poisson metrics on flat vector bundles over noncompact Riemannian manifolds and discuss related consequence, specially on the applications in Higgs bundles, towards generalizing Corlette-Donaldson-Hitchin-Simpson's nonabelian Hodge correspondence to noncompact Kähler manifolds setting.
The Lichnerowicz conjecture asserts that all harmonic manifolds are either flat or locally symmetric spaces of rank 1. This conjecture has been proved by Z.I. Szabo for harmonic manifolds with compact universal cover. E. Damek and F. Ricci provided examples showing that in the noncompact case the conjecture is wrong. However, such manifolds do not admit a compact quotient. The classification of all noncompact harmonic spaces is still a very difficult open problem. In this paper we provide a survey on recent results on noncompact simply connected harmonic manifolds, and we also prove many new r…
In this paper, we consider the Yamabe equation on a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold and find some geometric conditions on the manifold such that the Yamabe problem admits a bounded positive solution.
In this work, we first establish short time existence and Shi's type estimate of second Ricci flow on complete noncompact Hermitian manifolds. As an application, we use the second Ricci flow to discuss the existence of Kaehler-Einstein metric on complete noncompact Hermitian manifolds.
In this paper, we mainly study Liouville theorem of V T harmonic map from complete noncompact manifold into horoball in Cartan-Hardmard manifold. To this aim, we will establish gradient estimates under some condition on and V and T.
Though Trudinger-Moser inequalities on compact Riemannian manifolds or Euclidean space are well understood, we know little about them on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds. In this paper, we established respectively necessary condition and sufficient condition under which Trudinger-Moser inequalities hold on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds. For applications of such inequalities, we obtained existence results for some quasilinear equations with nonlinearity of exponential growth.
We prove a Hitchin-Thorpe inequality for noncompact Einstein 4-manifolds with asymptotic geometry at infinity. The asymptotic geometry at infinity is either a cusp bundle over a compact space (the fibered cusps) or a fiber bundle over a cone with a compact fiber (the fibered boundary). Many noncompact Einstein manifolds come with such a geometry at infinity.
In this paper, we will give a horizontal gradient estimate of positive solutions of $Δ_b u = - λu$ on complete noncompact pseudo-Hermitian manifolds. As a consequence, we recapture the Liouville theorem of positive pseudo-harmonic functions on Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative pseudo-Hermitian Ricci curvature.
The goal of this article is to study the geometry of Bach-flat noncompact steady quasi-Einstein manifolds. We show that a Bach-flat noncompact steady quasi-Einstein manifold $(M^{n},\,g)$ with positive Ricci curvature such that its potential function has at least one critical point must be a warped product with Einstein fiber. In addition, the fiber has constant curvature if $n = 4.$
In this paper, using the structures of cone and bicone fields on vector bundles, the author introduces a ILB (inverse limit of Banach)- manifold structure on $\mathcal M$ the space of Riemannian metrics on a noncompact manifold $M$. In the last section, it is proven that, this way, on the open submanifold $\mathcal{M}_{finite}$ of finite volume metrics, the canonical Riemannian metric is defined.
In this paper, we prove a pseudolocality-type theorem for $\mathcal L$-complete noncompact Ricci flow which may not have bounded sectional curvature; with the help of it we study the uniqueness of the Ricci flow on noncompact manifolds. In particular, we prove the strong uniqueness theorem for the $\mathcal L$-complete Ricci flow on the Euclidean space. This partially answers a question proposed by B-L.~Chen.
In this paper, we solve the so-called CR Poincaré-Lelong equation by solving the CR Poisson equation on a complete noncompact CR $(2n+1)$-manifold with nonegative pseudohermitian bisectional curvature tensors and vanishing torsion which is an odd dimensional counterpart of Kähler geometry. With applications of this solution plus the CR Liouvelle property, we study the structures of complete noncompact Sasakian manifolds and CR Yamabe steady solitons.
We obtain upper estimates for the bottom (that is, greatest lower bound) of the essential spectrum of weighted Laplacian operator of a weighted manifold under assumptions of the volume growth of their geodesic balls and spheres. Furthermore, we find examples where the equality occurs in the estimates obtained. As a consequence, we give estimates for the weighted mean curvature of complete noncompact hypersurfaces into weighted manifolds.
In this paper we give a partial affirmative answer to a conjecture of Greene-Wu and Yau. We prove that a complete noncompact Kähler surface with positive and bounded sectional curvature and with finite analytic Chern number $c_{1}(M)^{2}$ is biholomorphic to ${\C}^2$.
In this paper we prove that there is no $κ$-solution of Ricci flow on 3-dimensional noncompact manifold with strictly positive sectional curvature and blow up at some finite time $T$ satisfying $\int^T_0 \sqrt{T-t} R(p_0,t)dt< \infty$ for some point $p_0$. This partially confirms a conjecture of Perelman.
In this paper, we continue to study the generalized Ricci flow. We give a criterion on steady gradient Ricci soliton on complete and noncompact Riemannian manifolds that is Ricci-flat, and then introduce a natural flow whose stable points are Ricci-flat metrics. Modifying the argument used by Shi and List, we prove the short time existence and higher order derivatives estimates.
In this article, we obtain some further estimates of fundamental solutions comparing to the result of Chau-Tam-Yu and give some applications of the estimates on asymptotic behaviors of fundamental solutions.
We prove that a complete noncompact Kähler manifold $M^{n}$of positive bisectional curvature satisfying suitable growth conditions is biholomorphic to a pseudoconvex domain of {\bf C}$^{n}$ and we show that the manifold is topologically {\bf R}$^{2n}$. In particular, when $M^{n}$ is a Kähler surface of positive bisectional curvature satisfying certain natural geometric growth conditions, it is biholomorphic to {\bf C}$^{2}$.
In this article we consider asymptotically harmonic manifolds which are simply connected complete Riemannian manifolds without conjugate points such that all horospheres have the same constant mean curvature $h$. We prove the following equivalences for asymptotically harmonic manifolds $X$ under the additional assumption that their curvature tensor together with its covariant derivative are uniformly bounded: (a) $X$ has rank one; (b) $X$ has Anosov geodesic flow; (c) $X$ is Gromov hyperbolic; (d) $X$ has purely exponential volume growth with volume entropy equals $h$. This generalizes earlier…
In this work, we obtain existence criteria for Chern-Ricci flows on noncompact manifolds. We generalize a result by Tossati-Wienkove on Chern-Ricci flows to noncompact manifolds and at the same time generalize a result for Kahler-Ricci flows by Lott-Zhang to Chern-Ricci flows. Using the existence results, we prove that any complete noncollapsed Kahler metric with nonnegative bisectional curvature on a noncompact complex manifold can be deformed to a complete Kahler metric with nonnegative and bounded bisectional curvature which will have maximal volume growth if the initial metric has maximal …
In this paper, we study short-time existence of static flow on complete noncompact asymptotically static manifolds from the point of view that the stationary points of the evolution equations can be interpreted as static solutions of the Einstein vacuum equations with negative cosmological constant. For a static vacuum $(M^n,g,V),$ we also compute the asymptotic expansions of $g$ and $V$ at conformal infinity.
This paper constructs a Hodge theory of noncompact topologically tame manifolds $M$. The main result is an isomorphism between the de Rham cohomology with compact supports of $M$ and the kernel of the Hodge--Witten--Bismut Laplacian $\lap_μ$ associated to a measure $dμ$ which has sufficiently rapid growth at infinity on $M$. This follows from the construction of a space of forms associated to $\lap_μ$ which satisfy an ``extension by zero'' property. The ``extension by zero'' property is proved for manifolds with cylindrical ends possessing gaussian growth measures.
The goal of this article is to investigate nontrivial $m$-quasi-Einstein manifolds globally conformal to an $n$-dimensional Euclidean space. By considering such manifolds, whose conformal factors and potential functions are invariant under the action of an $(n-1)$-dimensional translation group, we provide a complete classification when $λ=0$ and $m\geq 1$ or $m=2-n.$
In this paper, we give an estimate of sub-Laplacian of Riemannian distance functions in pseudo-Hermitian geometry which plays a similar role as Laplacian comparison theorem in Riemannian geometry, and deduce a prior horizontal gradient estimate of pseudo-harmonic maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to regular balls of Riemannian manifolds. As an application, Liouville theorem is established under the conditions of nonnegative pseudo-Hermitian Ricci curvature and vanishing pseudo-Hermitian torsion. Moreover, we obtain the existence of pseudo-harmonic maps from complete noncompact pseudo-Hermit…
In 1941 Sumner Myers proved that if the Ricci curvature of a complete Riemann manifold has a positive infimum then the manifold is compact and its diameter is bounded in terms of the infimum. Subsequently the curvature hypothesis has been weakened, and in this paper we weaken it further in an attempt to find the ultimate, sharp result.
The aim of this paper is to study complete (noncompact) steady $m$-quasi-Einstein manifolds satisfying a fourth-order vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor. In this case, we are able to prove that a steady $m$-quasi-Einstein manifold ($m>1$) on a simply connected $n$-dimensional manifold $(M^{n},g)$, $(n\geq4),$ with nonnegative Ricci curvature and zero radial Weyl curvature must be a warped product with $(n-1)-$dimensional Einstein fiber, provided that $M$ has fourth order divergence-free Weyl tensor (i.e., ${\rm div}^{4}W=0$).
Let $(M^3,g_0)$ be a complete noncompact Riemannian 3-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and with injectivity radius bounded away from zero. Suppose that the scalar curvature $R(x)\to 0$ as $x\to \infty$. Then the Ricci flow with initial data $(M^3,g_0)$ has a long time solution. This extends a recent result of Ma and Zhu. We also have a higher dimensional version, and we reprove a K$\ddot{a}$hler analogy due to Chau, Tam and Yu.

Gradient steady Ricci solitons are natural generalizations of Ricci-flat manifolds. In this article, we prove a curvature gap theorem for gradient steady Ricci solitons with nonconstant potential functions; and a curvature gap theorem for Ricci-flat manifolds, removing the volume growth assumptions in known results.
In the main theorem of this paper we treat the problem of existence of minimizers of the isoperimetric problem under the assumption of small volumes. Applications of the main theorem to asymptotic expansions of the isoperimetric problem are given.
In this article, we provide some volume growth estimates for complete noncompact gradient Ricci solitons and quasi-Einstein manifolds similar to the classical results by Bishop, Calabi and Yau for complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove a sharp volume growth estimate for complete noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton. Moreover, we provide upper bound volume growth estimates for complete noncompact quasi-Einstein manifolds with $λ=0.$ In addition, we prove that geodesic balls of complete noncompact quasi-Einstein manifolds with $λ<0$ and $μ\leq 0$ have at …
Let $M$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $N$ be a subvariety with codimension greater than or equal to 2. We show that there are no complete Kähler--Einstein metrics on $M-N$. As an application, let $E$ be an exceptional divisor of $M$. Then $M-E$ cannot admit any complete Kähler--Einstein metric if blow-down of $E$ is a complex variety with only canonical or terminal singularities. A similar result is shown for pairs.
We prove several facts about the Yamabe constant of Riemannian metrics on general noncompact manifolds and about S. Kim's closely related "Yamabe constant at infinity". In particular we show that the Yamabe constant depends continuously on the Riemannian metric with respect to the fine C^2-topology, and that the Yamabe constant at infinity is even locally constant with respect to this topology. We also discuss to which extent the Yamabe constant is continuous with respect to coarser topologies on the space of Riemannian metrics.
We introduce the concept of Calderón-Zygmund inequalities on Riemannian manifolds. For $1<p<\infty$, these are inequalities of the form $$ \left\Vert \mathrm{Hess}\left( u\right) \right\Vert _{L^p}\leq C_{1}\left\Vert u\right\Vert _{L^p}+C_{2}\left\Vert Δu\right\Vert _{L^p}, $$ valid a priori for all smooth functions $u$ with compact support, and constants $C_1\geq 0$, $C_2>0$. Such an inequality can hold or fail, depending on the underlying Riemannian geometry. After establishing some generally valid facts and consequences of the Calderón-Zygmund inequality (like new denseness results for sec…
In this paper, we study the nilradicals of parabolic subalgebras of semisimple Lie algebras and the natural one-dimensional solvable extensions of them. We investigate the structures, curvatures and Einstein conditions of the associated nilmanifolds and solvmanifolds. We show that our solvmanifold is Einstein if the nilradical is of two-step. New examples of Einstein solvmanifolds with three-step and four-step nilradicals are also given.
We establish the existence of infinitely many complete metrics with constant scalar curvature on prescribed conformal classes on certain noncompact product manifolds. These include products of closed manifolds with constant positive scalar curvature and simply-connected symmetric spaces of noncompact or Euclidean type; in particular, $\mathbb S^m \times\mathbb R^d$, $m\geq2$, $d\geq1$, and $\mathbb S^m\times\mathbb H^d$, $2\leq d<m$. As a consequence, we obtain infinitely many periodic solutions to the singular Yamabe problem on $\mathbb S^m\setminus\mathbb S^k$, for all $0\leq k<(m-2)/2$, the…
Let $(M,g^{TM})$ be a noncompact (not necessarily complete) enlargeable Riemannian manifold in the sense of Gromov-Lawson and $F$ an integrable subbundle of $T M$ . Let $k^F$ be the leafwise scalar curvature associated to $g^F=g^{TM}|_F$. We show that if either $TM$ or $F$ is spin, then ${\rm inf}(k^F)\leq 0$. This generalizes the famous result of Gromov-Lawson on enlargeable manifolds to the case of foliations. It also extends an ansatz of Gromov on hyper-Euclidean spaces to general enlargeable Riemannian manifolds, as well as recent results on compact enlargeable foliated manifolds due to Be…
We prove a Schwarz-type lemma for noncompact manifolds with possibly noncompact boundary. The result is a consequence of a suitable form of the weak maximum principle of independent interest. The paper is enriched with applications to conformal deformations of noncompact manifolds with boundary, among them a generalization of a classical result by Escobar.
The Lichnerowicz conjecture asserts that all harmonic manifolds are either flat or locally symmetric spaces of rank~1. This conjecture has been proved by Z. Szabó \cite{Sz} for harmonic manifolds with compact universal cover. E. Damek and F. Ricci \cite{DR} provided examples showing that in the noncompact case the conjecture is wrong. However, such manifolds do not admit a compact quotient. In this paper we study, using a notion of rank, the asymptotic geometry and the geodesic flow on simply connected nonflat and noncompact harmonic manifolds denoted by $X$. In the first part of the paper we …
In this paper we obtain three results concerning the geometry of complete noncompact positively curved Kähler manifolds at infinity. The first one states that the order of volume growth of a complete noncompact Kähler manifold with positive bisectional curvature is at least half of the real dimension (i.e., the complex dimension). The second one states that the curvature of a complete noncompact Kähler manifold with positive bisectional curvature decays at least linearly in the average sense. The third result is concerned with the relation between the volume growth and the curvature decay. We …
We show that the classical Szasz analytic function $S_N(f)(x)$ is obtained by applying the pseudo-differential operator $f(N^{-1}D_θ)$ to the Bergman kernels for the Bargmann-Fock space. The expression generalizes immediately to any smooth polarized noncompact complete toric \kahler manifold, defining the generalized Szasz analytic function $S_{h^N}(f)(x)$. About $S_{h^N}(f)(x)$, we prove that it admits complete asymptotics and there exists a universal scaling limit. % We also consider some dilation operator composed with $S_{h^N}(f)(x)$ and we give an estimate about this composition. As an ex…
In this paper the Gromov-Witten invariants on a class of noncompact symplectic manifolds are defined by combining Ruan-Tian's method with that of McDuff-Salamon. The main point of the arguments is to introduce a method dealing with the transversality problems in the case of noncompact manifolds. Moreover, the techniques are also used to study the topological rigidity of Hamiltonian loops with compact support on a class of noncompact symplectic manifolds.
We prove a positive mass theorem for some noncompact spin manifolds that are asymptotic to products of hyperbolic space with a compact manifold. As conclusion we show the Yamabe inequality for some noncompact manifolds which are important to understand the behaviour of Yamabe invariants under surgeries.
In this paper, we give the Lichnerowicz type formulas for statistical de Rham Hodge operators. Moreover, Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorems for statistical de Rham Hodge operators on compact manifolds with (respectively without) boundary are proved.
