Let f : (M,p)\to (M',p') be a formal (holomorphic) nondegenerate map, i.e. with formal holomorphic Jacobian J_f not identically vanishing, between two germs of real analytic generic submanifolds in \C^n, p'=f(p). Assuming the target manifold to be real algebraic, and the source manifold to be minimal at p\in M in the sense of Tumanov, we prove the convergence of the so-called reflection mapping associated to f. From this, we deduce the convergence of such mappings from minimal real analytic generic submanifolds onto real algebraic holomorphically nondegenerate ones, as well as related results on partial convergence of such maps. For the proofs, we establish a principle of analyticity for formal CR power series. This principle can be used to reobtain the convergence of formal mappings between real analytic CR manifolds under a standard nondegeneracy condition.
It is shown that a formal mapping between two real-analytic hypersurfaces in complex space is convergent provided that neither hypersurface contains a nontrivial holomorphic variety. For higher codimensional generic submanifolds, convergence is proved e.g. under the assumption that the source is of finite type, the target does not contain a nontrivial holomorphic variety, and the mapping is finite. Finite determination (by jets of a predetermined order) of formal mappings between smooth generic submanifolds is also established.
First of all, we establish compactness of continuous mappings of the Orlicz--Sobolev classes $W^{1,φ}_{\rm loc}$ with the Calderon type condition on $φ$ and, in particular, of the Sobolev classes $W^{1,p}_{\rm loc}$ for $p>n-1$ in ${\Bbb R}^n\,,$ $n\ge 3\,,$ with one fixed point. Then we give a series of theorems on convergence of the Orlicz--Sobolev homeomorphisms and on semicontinuity in the mean of dilatations of the Sobolev homeomorphisms. These results lead us to closeness of the corresponding classes of homeomorpisms. Finally, we come on this basis to criteria of compactness of classes o…
A formal invertible equivalence between two minimal real analytic hypersurfaces converges if and only if the hypersurfaces are holomorphically nondegenerate
In this paper, we study formal mappings between smooth generic submanifolds in multidimensional complex space and establish results on finite determination, convergence and local biholomorphic and algebraic equivalence. Our finite determination result gives sufficient conditions to guarantee that a formal map as above is uniquely determined by its jet at a point of a preassigned order. For real-analytic generic submanifolds, we prove convergence of formal mappings under appropriate assumptions and also give natural geometric conditions to assure that if two germs of such submanifolds are forma…
The (projective) convergence set of a divergent formal power series $f(x_{1},...,x_{n})$ is defined to be the image in $\PP^{n-1}$ of the set of all $x\in \mathbb{C}^{n}$ such that $f(x_{1}t,...,x_{n}t)$, as a series in $t$, converges absolutely near $t=0$. We prove that every countable union of closed complete pluripolar sets in $\PP^{n-1}$ is the convergence set of some divergent series $f$. The (affine) convergence sets of formal power series with polynomial coefficients are also studied. The higher-dimensional results of A. Sathaye, P. Lelong, N. Levenberg and R.E. Molzon, and of J. Ribón …
Two triangle meshes are conformally equivalent if for any pair of incident triangles the absolute values of the corresponding cross-ratios of the four vertices agree. Such a pair can be considered as preimage and image of a discrete conformal map. In this article we study discrete conformal maps which are defined on parts of a triangular lattice $T$ with strictly acute angles. That is, $T$ is an infinite triangulation of the plane with congruent strictly acute triangles. A smooth conformal map $f$ can be approximated on a compact subset by such discrete conformal maps $f^\varepsilon$, defined …
We show that every formal embedding sending a real-analytic strongly pseudoconvex hypersurface in $M\subset \C^N$ into another such hypersurface in $M'\subset \C^{N+1}$ is convergent. More generally, if $M$ and $M'$ are merely Levi-nondegenerate, the same conclusion holds for any formal embedding provided either that the embedding is CR transversal or the target hypersurface does not contain any complex curves.
We consider Sobolev mappings $f\in W^{1,q}(Ω,\IC)$, $1<q<\infty$, between planar domains $Ω\subset \IC$. We analyse the Radon-Riesz property for convex functionals of the form \[f\mapsto \int_ΩΦ(|Df(z)|,J(z,f)) \; dz \] and show that under certain criteria, which hold in important cases, weak convergence in $W_{loc}^{1,q}(Ω)$ of (for instance) a minimising sequence can be improved to strong convergence. This finds important applications in the minimisation problems for mappings of finite distortion and the $L^p$ and $Exp$\,-Teichmüller theories.
We study the approximation of conformal mappings with the polynomials defined by Keldysh and Lavrentiev from an extremal problem considered by Julia. These polynomials converge uniformly on the closure of any Smirnov domain to the conformal mapping of this domain onto a disk. We prove estimates for the rate of such convergence on domains with piecewise analytic boundaries, expressed through the smallest exterior angles at the boundary.
Let f : (M,p)\to (M',p') be a formal biholomorphic mapping between two germs of real analytic hypersurfaces in \C^n, p'=f(p). Assuming the source manifold to be minimal at p, we prove the convergence of the so-called reflection function associated to f. As a consequence, we derive the convergence of formal biholomorphisms between real analytic minimal holomorphically nondegenerate hypersurfaces. Related results on partial convergence of formal biholomorphisms are also obtained.
In this paper I survey some recent results on finite determination, convergence, and approximation of formal mappings between real submanifolds in complex spaces. A number of conjectures are also given.
Let $M\subset C^N$ be a minimal real-analytic CR-submanifold and $M'\subset C^{N'}$ a real-algebraic subset through points $p\in M$ and $p'\in M'$. We show that that any formal (holomorphic) mapping $f\colon (C^N,p)\to (C^{N'},p')$, sending $M$ into $M'$, can be approximated up to any given order at $p$ by a convergent map sending $M$ into $M'$. If $M$ is furthermore generic, we also show that any such map $f$, that is not convergent, must send (in an appropriate sense) $M$ into the set $E'\subset M'$ of points of D'Angelo infinite type. Therefore, if $M'$ does not contain any nontrivial compl…
Here we construct the conformal mappings with the help of continuous fractions approximations. These approximations converge to the algebraic roots $\sqrt[N]{z}$ for $N \in \mathbb{N}$ and $z$ from the right half-plane of the complex plane. We estimate both the convergence rate and the compact set of convergence. Also we give the examples that illustrate the introduced technique of a conformal mapping construction.
Let H:(M,p)->(M',p') be a formal mapping between two germs of real-analytic generic submanifolds in C^N with nonvanishing Jacobian. Assuming M to be minimal at p and M' holomorphically nondegenerate at p', we prove the convergence of the mapping H. As a consequence, we obtain a new convergence result for arbitrary formal maps between real-analytic hypersurfaces when the target does not contain any holomorphic curve. In the case when both M and M' are hypersurfaces, we also prove the convergence of the associated reflection function when M is assumed to be only minimal. This allows us to derive…
We consider a smooth CR mapping $f$ from a real-analytic generic submanifold $M$ in $\bC^N$ into $\bC^N$. For $M$ of finite type and essentially finite at a point $p\in M$, and $f$ formally finite at $p$, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $f$ to extend as a holomorphic mapping in some neighborhood of $p$. In a similar vein, we consider a formal holomorphic mapping $H$ and give a necessary and sufficient condition for $H$ to be convergent.
Iterated Segre mappings of real analytic generic submanifolds in complex space have been an essential tool in the study of holomorphic, formal, and CR mappings between such manifolds. In this paper we present a theory of iterated Segre mappings for smooth or formal submanifolds. In particular, we characterize finite type in terms of the rank of the iterated Segre mappings. The approach given here is new, simplifies proofs, and extends results previously known for the real analytic case.
