It will be shown that the Reeh-Schlieder property holds for states of quantum fields for ultrahyperfunctional Wightman theory. As by product, it is shown that the Reeh-Schlieder property also holds for states of quantum fields on a non-commutative Minkowski space in the setting ultrahyperfunctional.
Classical results of the axiomatic quantum field theory, namely the irreducibility of the set of field operators, Reeh and Schlieder's theorems and generalized Haag's theorem, are proven in $SO(1,1)$ invariant quantum field theory, of which an important example is noncommutative quantum field theory. New consequences of generalized Haag's theorem are obtained in $SO(1,3)$ invariant theories. It has been proven that the equality of four-point Wightman functions in two theories leads to the equality of elastic scattering amplitudes and thus the total cross-sections in these theories.
In this article we review our recent work on the causal structure of symmetric spaces and related geometric aspects of Algebraic Quantum Field Theory. Motivated by some general results on modular groups related to nets of von Neumann algebras,we focus on Euler elements of the Lie algebra, i.e., elements whose adjoint action defines a 3-grading. We study the wedge regions they determine in corresponding causal symmetric spaces and describe some methods to construct nets of von Neumann algebras on causal symmetric spaces that satisfy abstract versions of the Reeh--Schlieder and the Bisognano-Wic…
A corollary to the Reeh-Schlieder theorem is proved: that the time-ordered Vacuum Expectation Values and the S-matrix of a regularized Lagrangian quantum theory can be approximated by a local operator that uses nonlinear functionals of a locally supported source function. For the Wightman axioms, this suggests a modification that takes the algebra of measurement operators not to be generated by an operator-valued distribution. The use of operator-valued nonlinear functionals of a source function introduces many abstract fragments of the source to give a well-defined top-down construction of in…
We present a new viewpoint on the construction of pointlike local fields in integrable models of quantum field theory. As usual, we define these local observables by their form factors; but rather than exhibiting their $n$-point functions and verifying the Wightman axioms, we aim to establish them as closed operators affiliated with a net of local von Neumann algebras, which is defined indirectly via wedge-local quantities. We also investigate whether these fields have the Reeh-Schlieder property, and in which sense they generate the net of algebras. Our investigation focuses on scalar models …
The construction of pointlike fields in quantum integrable models is usually approached by constructing their n-point functions. However, convergence questions of the resulting infinite series remain unresolved even in the simplest case of the massive Ising model. On the other hand, the C*-algebraic approach to the construction considers semi-local bounded operators, but yields local operators only in a very abstract way. We use a novel approach to investigate the structure of these local observables, in the form of smeared pointlike quantum fields. Instead of considering their n-point functio…
We give a pedagogical introduction to algebraic quantum field theory (AQFT), with the aim of explaining its key structures and features. Topics covered include: algebraic formulations of quantum theory and the GNS representation theorem, the appearance of unitarily inequivalent representations in QFT (exemplified by the van Hove model), the main assumptions of AQFT and simple models thereof, the spectrum condition, Reeh--Schlieder theorem, split property, the universal type of local algebras, and the theory of superselection sectors. The abstract discussion is illustrated by concrete examples.…
For every local quantum field theory on a static, globally hyperbolic spacetime of arbitrary dimension, assuming the Reeh-Schlieder property, local preparability of states, and the existence of an energy density as operator-valued distribution, we prove an approximate quantum energy inequality for a dense set of vector states. The quantum field theory is given by a net of von Neumann algebras of observables, and the energy density is assumed to fulfill polynomial energy bounds and to locally generate the time translations. While being approximate in the sense that it is controlled by a small p…
Can a relativistic quantum field theory be consistently described as a theory of localizable particles? There are many known issues with such a description, indicating an answer in the negative. In this paper, we examine these obstructions by tracing how they (partially) subside in passing to an approximation of ordinary quantum mechanics in the non-relativistic regime. We undertake a recovery of the characteristic features of non-relativistic quantum mechanics beyond simply the Schrödinger equation. We find that once this is achieved, there are persisting issues in the localizability of parti…
