For Jacobi matrices with a_n = 1+(-1)^n alpha n^{-gamma}, b_n = (-1)^n beta n^{-gamma}, we study bound states and the SzegHo condition. We provide a new proof of Nevai's result that if gamma > 1/2, the Szego condition holds, which works also if one replaces (-1)^n by cos(mu n). We show that if alpha = 0, beta not equal to 0, and gamma < 1/2, the Szego condition fails. We also show that if gamma = 1, alpha and beta are small enough (beta^2 + 8 alpha^2 < 1/24 will do), then the Jacobi matrix has finitely many bound states (for alpha = 0, beta large, it has infinitely many).
The paper is a continuation of work [15] in which the general setting for analogs of the Szegö theorem for ergodic operators was given and several interesting cases were considered. Here we extend the results of [15] to a wider class of test functions and symbols which determine the Szegö-type asymptotic formula for the one-dimensional Schrodinger operator with random potential. We show that in this case the subleading term of the formula is given by a Central Limit Theorem in the spectral context, hence the term is asymptotically proportional to $L^{1/2}$, where $L$ is the length of the inter…
We extend in this work the Jitomirskaya-Last inequality and Last-Simoncriterion for the absolutely continuous spectral component of a half-line Schrödinger operator to the special class of matrix-valued Jacobi operators $H:l^2(\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{C})\rightarrow l^2(\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{C})$ given by the law $[H \textbf{u}]_{n} := D_{n - 1} \textbf{u}_{n - 1} + D_{n} \textbf{u}_{n + 1} + V_{n} \textbf{u}_{n}$, where $(D_n)_n$ and $(V_n)_n$ are bilateral sequences of $l\times l$ self-adjoint matrices such that $0<\inf_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}s_l[D_n]\le\sup_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}s_1[D_n]<\infty$ (here, $s_k[A]$ …
The present paper is about Bernstein-type estimates for Jacobi polynomials and their applications to various branches in mathematics. This is an old topic but we want to add a new wrinkle by establishing some intriguing connections with dispersive estimates for a certain class of Schrödinger equations whose Hamiltonian is given by the generalized Laguerre operator. More precisely, we show that dispersive estimates for the Schrödinger equation associated with the generalized Laguerre operator are connected with Bernstein-type inequalities for Jacobi polynomials. We use known uniform estimates f…
We consider semi-infinite Jacobi matrices corresponding to a point interaction for the discrete Schrödinger operator. Our goal is to find explicit expressions for the spectral measure, the resolvent and other spectral characteristics of such Jacobi matrices. It turns out that their spectral analysis leads to a new class of orthogonal polynomials generalizing the classical Chebyshev polynomials.
We analyze the 1D cubic nonlinear stationary Schrödinger equation on a ring with a defect for both focusing and defocusing nonlinearity. All possible $δ$ and $δ'$ boundary conditions are considered at the defect, computing for each of them the real eigenfunctions, written as Jacobi elliptic functions, and eigenvalues for the ground state and first few excited energy levels. All six independent Jacobi elliptic functions are found to be solutions of some boundary condition. We also provide a way to map all eigenfunctions satisfying $δ$/$δ'$ conditions to any other general boundary condition or p…
We consider the problem of embedding eigenvalues into the essential spectrum of periodic Jacobi operators, using an oscillating, decreasing potential. To do this we employ a geometric method, previously used to embed eigenvalues into the essential spectrum of the discrete Schrödinger operator. For periodic Jacobi operators we relax the rational dependence conditions on the values of the quasi-momenta from this previous work. We then explore conditions that permit not just the existence of infinitely many subordinate solutions to the formal spectral equation but also the embedding of infinitely…
In this paper, we start with the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi approach and show that the underlying complex pole evolution of the Schrödinger equation is described by the quantum action in terms of a random matrix. The wave function is given by the random matrix probability distribution function. In literature this is known as the famous Cole-Hopf Transformation.
We prove that the resolvent set of any, possibly singular, quasi periodic Jacobi operator is characterized as the set of all energies whose associated Jacobi cocycles induce a dominated splitting. This extends a well-known result by R. A. Johnson for Schrödinger operators.
The spectral properties of two special classes of Jacobi operators are studied. For the first class represented by the $2M$-dimensional real Jacobi matrices whose entries are symmetric with respect to the secondary diagonal, a new polynomial identity relating the eigenvalues of such matrices with their matrix { entries} is obtained. In the limit $M\to\infty$ this identity induces some requirements, which should satisfy the scattering data of the resulting infinite-dimensional Jacobi operator in the half-line, which super- and sub-diagonal matrix elements are equal to -1. We obtain such require…
Entropic fluctuations in XY chains and reflectionless Jacobi matrices
We study the entropic fluctuations of a general XY spin chain where initially the left(x<0)/right(x>0) part of the chain is in thermal equilibrium at inverse temperature Tl/Tr. The temperature differential results in a non-trivial energy/entropy flux across the chain. The Evans-Searles (ES) entropic functional describes fluctuations of the flux observable with respect to the initial state while the Gallavotti-Cohen (GC) functional describes these fluctuations with respect to the steady state (NESS) the chain reaches in the large time limit. We also consider the full counting statistics (FCS) o…
