In the paper, we prove the existence of radial solutions to \begin{equation}\notag%\label{main-eq-abstarct} %\begin{aligned} -Δ_p u+({\rm sgn}(p-s)+V(x))|u|^{p-2}u+λ|u|^{s-2}u=|u|^{q-2}u\qquad\text{in}\,\R^N \\ %\int_{\R^N}|u|^sdx&=ρ^s %\end{aligned} \end{equation} with prescribed $L^s(\R^N)$-norm, where $N\ge 3,\,p\in[2,N),\,s\in(1,p],\,q\in(p\frac{N+s}{N},\frac{Np}{N-p})$ and $V:\R^N\to\R$ is a suitable radial potential. We stress that $V$ is required to be radial but not necessarily bounded, and there are no assumptions about its sign. The case $V\equiv 0$ is also included. The proof is variational and relies on a min-max argument. A key-tool is the Pohozaev identity, which is shown to be true for any solution under quite weak assumptions about the potential $V$. This identity is proved with the aid of a new global boundedness result for subsolutions to a suitable $p$-Laplace equation.
In this thesis, a unified approach to prove the boundedness of gradients of solutions to degenerate and singular elliptic and parabolic phi-Laplacian systems is presented. At first, a Cacciopoli-type energy inequality with an additional function f which can be chosen freely is proven. Then, Di Giorgi's method is applied using level sets which will lead to L-infinity-estimates on the gradient of the weak solution.
We study local boundedness for subsolutions of nonlinear nonuniformly elliptic equations whose prototype is given by $\nabla \cdot (λ|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)=0$, where the variable coefficient $0\leqλ$ and its inverse $λ^{-1}$ are allowed to be unbounded. Assuming certain integrability conditions on $λ$ and $λ^{-1}$ depending on $p$ and the dimension, we show local boundedness. Moreover, we provide counterexamples to regularity showing that the integrability conditions are optimal for every $p>1$.
Locally bounded, local weak solutions to a special class of quasilinear, anisotropic, $p$-Laplacian type elliptic equations, are shown to be locally Hölder continuous. Homogeneous local upper bounds are established for local weak solutions to a general class of quasilinear anisotropic equations.
This article sets forth results on the existence, positivity and boundedness of solutions for quasilinear elliptic systems involving p-Laplacian and q-Laplacian operators. The approach combines Schaefer's fixed point, comparison principle as well as Moser's iteration procedure.
The global-in-time existence of bounded weak solutions to general cross-diffusion systems describing the evolution of $n$ population species is proved. The equations are considered in a bounded domain with no-flux boundary conditions. The system possesses a Laplacian structure, which allows for the derivation of uniform $L^\infty$ bounds, and an entropy structure, which yields suitable gradient estimates. Because of the boundedness, no growth conditions for the transition and interaction rates need to be assumed. The existence proof is based on a fixed-point argument first used by Desvillettes…
We investigate the boundedness and large time behavior of solutions of the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for the one-dimensional degenerate parabolic equation with gradient nonlinearity: $$ u_t = (|u-x|^{p-2} u-x)_x+|u_x|^q \qquad \text{in}\quad (0, +\infty)\tiles(0, 1),\qquad q > p > 2.$$ We prove that: either $u_x$ blows up in finite time, or $u$ is global and converges in $W^{1, \infty}$norm to the unique steady state. This in particular eliminates the possibility of global solutions with unbounded gradient. For that purpose a Lyapunov functional is constructed by the approach of Zelenyak.
We state and prove estimates for the local boundedness of subsolutions of non-local, possibly degenerate, parabolic integro-differential equations of the form \begin{equation*} \partial_tu(x,t)+\mbox{P.V.}\int\limits_{\mathbb R^n}K(x,y,t) |u(x,t)-u(y,t) |^{p-2}(u(x,t)-u(y,t))\, dy,\end{equation*} $(x,t)\in\mathbb R^n\times\mathbb R$, where $\mbox{P.V.} $ means in the principle value sense, $p\in (1,\infty)$ and the kernel obeys $K(x,y,t)\approx |x-y |^{n+ps}$ for some $s\in (0,1)$, uniformly in $(x,y,t)\in\mathbb R^n\times \mathbb R^n\times\mathbb R$.
This paper deals with a boundary-value problem in three-dimensional smooth bounded convex domains for the coupled chemotaxis-Stokes system with slow $p$-Laplacian diffusion \begin{equation}\nonumber \left\{ \begin{aligned} &n_t+u\cdot\nabla n=\nabla\cdot\left(|\nabla n|^{p-2}\nabla n\right)-\nabla\cdot(n\nabla c), &x\inΩ,\ t>0,\ \ &c_t+u\cdot\nabla c=Δc-nc,&x\inΩ,\ t>0,\ \ &u_t=Δu+\nabla P+n\nablaϕ,&x\inΩ,\ t>0,\ \ &\nabla\cdot u=0, &x\inΩ,\ t>0,\ \ \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation} where $ϕ\in W^{2,\infty}(Ω)$ is the gravitational potential. It is proved that global bounded weak solutions …
In this paper we study an evolution equation involving the normalized $p$-Laplacian and a bounded continuous source term. The normalized $p$-Laplacian is in non divergence form and arises for example from stochastic tug-of-war games with noise. We prove local $C^{α, \fracα{2}}$ regularity for the spatial gradient of the viscosity solutions. The proof is based on an improvement of flatness and proceeds by iteration.
We extend the symmetry result of Serrin and Weinberger from the Laplacian operator to the highly degenerate game-theoretic $p$-Laplacian operator and show that viscosity solutions of $-Δ_p^Nu=1$ in $Ω$, $u=0$ and $\tfrac{\partial u}{\partialν}=-c\neq 0$ on $\partialΩ$ can only exist on a bounded domain $Ω$ if $Ω$ is a ball.
The global boundedness and asymptotic behavior are investigated for the solutions of a nonlocal time fractional p-Laplacian reaction-diffusion equation (NTFPLRDE) $$ \frac{\partial^{α}u}{\partial t^{α}}=Δ_{p} u+μu^{2}(1-kJ*u) -γu, \qquad(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^{N}\times(0,+\infty)$$ with $0<α<1,β, μ,k>0,N\leq 2$ and $Δ_{p}u =div(\left| \bigtriangledown u \right|^{p-2}\bigtriangledown u)$. Under appropriate assumptions on $J$ and the conditions of $1<p<2$, it is proved that for any nonnegative and bounded initial conditions, the problem has a global bounded classical solution if $k^{*}=0$ for $N=1$ …
We show that viscosity solutions to the normalized $p(x)$-Laplace equation coincide with distributional weak solutions to the strong $p(x)$-Laplace equation when $p$ is Lipschitz and $\inf p>1$. This yields $C^{1,α}$ regularity for the viscosity solutions of the normalized $p(x)$-Laplace equation. As an additional application, we prove a Radó-type removability theorem.
We prove that the unique solution to the Dirichlet problem with constant source term for the inhomogeneous normalized infinity Laplacian on a convex domain of $\mathbb{R}^N$ is of class $C^1$. The result is obtained by showing as an intermediate step the power-concavity (of exponent $1/2$) of the solution.
We study a tug-of-war game with varying probabilities. In particular, we show that the value of the game is locally asymptotically Hölder continuous. We also show the existence and uniqueness of values of the game. As an application, we prove that the value function of the game converges to a solution of the normalized $p(x)$-Laplacian.
We prove that, if $Ω$ is an open bounded domain with smooth and connected boundary, for every $p \in (1, + \infty)$ the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the normalized $p$-Laplacian is simple in the sense that two positive eigenfunctions are necessarily multiple of each other. We also give a (non-optimal) lower bound for the eigenvalue in terms of the measure of $Ω$, and we address the open problem of proving a Faber-Krahn type inequality with balls as optimal domains.
In this paper, we study an inhomogeneous variant of the normalized $p$-Laplacian evolution which has been recently treated in \cite{BG1}, \cite{Do}, \cite{MPR} and \cite{Ju}. We show that if the initial datum satisfies the pointwise gradient estimate \eqref{e:main1} a.e., then the unique solution to the Cauchy problem \eqref{main5} satisfies the same gradient estimate a.e. for all later times, see \eqref{e:main} below. A general pointwise gradient bound for the entire bounded solutions of the elliptic counterpart of equation \eqref{main5} was first obtained in \cite{CGS}. Such estimate general…
In a Hadamard manifold $M$, it is proved that if $u$ is a $λ$-eigenfunction of the Laplacian that belongs to $L^p(M)$ for some $p \ge 2$, then $u$ is bounded and $\|u\|_{\infty} \le C \|u\|_p,$ where $C$ depends only on $p$, $λ$ and on the dimension of $M$. This result is obtained in the more general context of a complete Riemannian manifold endowed with an isoperimetric function $H$ satisfying some integrability condition. In this case, the constant $C$ depends on $p,λ$ and $H.$
We consider stable solutions to the equation $ -Δ_p u =f(u) $ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n $ for a $ C^1 $ nonlinearity $f$. Either in the radial case, or for some model nonlinearities $f$ in a general domain, stable solutions are known to be bounded in the optimal dimension range $n<p+4p/(p-1)$. In this article, under a new condition on $n$ and $p$, we establish an $ L^\infty $ a priori estimate for stable solutions which holds for every $ f\in C^1$. Our condition is optimal in the radial case for $n\geq3$, whereas it is more restrictive in the nonradial case. This work im…
This paper concerns the existence of normalized solutions to a class of $(2,q)$-Laplacian equations in all the possible cases according to the value of $p$ with respect to the critical exponent $2(1+2/N)$. In the $L^2$-subcritical case, we study a global minimization problem and obtain a ground state solution. While in the $L^2$-critical case, we prove several nonexistence results, extended also in the $L^q$-critical case. At last, we derive a ground state and infinitely many radial solutions in the $L^2$-supercritical case. Compared with the classical Schrödinger equation, the $(2,q)$-Laplaci…
Consider a second order, strongly elliptic negative semidefinite differential operator $L$ (maybe a system) on a compact Riemannian manifold $\overline{M}$ with smooth boundary, where the domain of $L$ is defined by a coercive boundary condition. Classically known results, and also recent work in \cite{DOS} and \cite{DM} establish sufficient conditions for $L^\infty-\text{BMO}_L$ continuity of $φ(\sqrt{A})$, where $φ\in S^0_1(\mathbb{R})$, and $A$ is a suitable elliptic operator. Using a variant of the Cheeger-Gromov-Taylor functional calculus due to \cite{MMV}, and short time bounds on the in…
In this paper, we are concerned with the existence and dynamics of solutions to the equation with mixed fractional Laplacians $$ (-Δ)^{s_1} u +(-Δ)^{s_2} u + λu=|u|^{p-2} u $$ under the constraint $$ \int_{\R^N} |u|^2 \, dx=c>0, $$ where $N \geq 1$, $0<s_2<s_1<1$, $2+ \frac {4s_1}{N} \leq p< \infty $ if $N \leq 2s_1$, $2+ \frac {4s_1}{N} \leq p<\frac{2N}{N-2s_1}$ if $N >2s_1$, $λ\in \R$ appearing as Lagrange multiplier is unknown. The fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^s$ is characterized as $\mathcal{F}((-Δ)^{s}u)(ξ)=|ξ|^{2s} \mathcal{F}(u)(ξ)$ for $ξ\in \R^N$, where $\mathcal{F}$ denotes the Fourier…
We give a complete characterization, as "stadium-like domains", of convex subsets $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ where a solution exists to Serrin-type overdetermined boundary value problems in which the operator is either the infinity Laplacian or its normalized version. In case of the not-normalized operator, our results extend those obtained in a previous work, where the problem was solved under some geometrical restrictions on $Ω$. In case of the normalized operator, we also show that stadium-like domains are precisely the unique convex sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ where the solution to a Dirichlet probl…

We study nonlinear parabolic PDEs with Orlicz-type growth conditions. The main result gives the existence of a unique solution to the obstacle problem related to these equations. To achieve this we show the boundedness of weak solutions and that a uniformly bounded sequence of weak supersolutions converges to a weak supersolution. Moreover, we prove that if the obstacle is continuous, so is the solution.
In this paper, we study the existence of ground state solutions to the following p-Laplacian equation in some dimension $N\geq3$ with an $L^2$ constraint: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δ_{p}u+{\vert u\vert}^{p-2}u=f(u)-μu \quad \text{ in } \mathbb{R}^N,\\ {\Vert u\Vert}^2_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^N)}=m,\\ u\in W^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^N)\cap L^2(\mathbb{R}^N), \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $-Δ_{p}u=div\left( {\vert\nabla u\vert}^{p-2}\nabla u \right)$, $2\leq p<N$, $f\in C(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})$, $m>0$, $μ\in\mathbb{R}$ will appear as a Lagrange multiplier and the continuous nonlinearity $f$ satisfie…
We investigate norms of spectral projectors on thin spherical shells for the Laplacian on tori. This is closely related to the boundedness of resolvents of the Laplacian, and to the boundedness of $L^p$ norms of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian. We formulate a conjecture, and partially prove it.
This article concerns the number of nodal domains of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on special Riemannian $3$-manifolds, namely nontrivial principal $S^1$ bundles $P \to X$ over Riemann surfaces equipped with certain $S^1$ invariant metrics, the Kaluza-Klein metrics. We prove for generic Kaluza-Klein metrics that any Laplacian eigenfunction has exactly two nodal domains unless it is invariant under the $S^1$ action. We also construct an explicit orthonormal eigenbasis on the flat $3$-torus $\mathbb{T}^3$ for which every non-constant eigenfunction belonging to the basis has two nodal domains.
We extend the celebrate De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory to a wide class of nonlinear equations driven by nonlocal, possibly degenerate, integro-differential operators, whose model is the fractional $p$-Laplacian operator on the Heisenberg-Weyl group $\mathbb{H}^n$. Amongst other results, we prove that the weak solutions to such a class of problems are bounded and Hölder continuous, by also establishing general estimates as fractional Caccioppoli-type estimates with tail and logarithmic-type estimates.
In this paper we are concerned with resolvent estimates for the Laplacian $Δ$ in Euclidean spaces. Uniform resolvent estimates for $Δ$ were shown by Kenig, Ruiz and Sogge \cite{KRS} who established rather a complete description of the Lebesgue spaces allowing such estimates. However, the problem of obtaining sharp $L^p$--$L^q$ bounds depending on $z$ has not been considered in a general framework which admits all possible $p,q$. In this paper, we present a complete picture of sharp $L^p$--$L^q$ resolvent estimates, which may depend on $z$. We also obtain the sharp resolvent estimates for the f…
In this paper we study an eigenvalue problem for the so called $(p,2)$-Laplace operator on a smooth bounded domain under a nonlinear Steklov type boundary condition, namely \begin{equation} \left\{ \begin{aligned} -Δ_pu-Δu & =λa(x)u \ \ \text{in}\ Ω,\\ (|\nabla u|^{p-2}+1)\dfrac{\partial u}{\partialν} & =λb(x)u \ \ \text{on}\ \partialΩ. \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation} Under suitable integrability and boundedness assumptions on the positive weight functions $a$ and $b$, we show that, for all $p>1$, the eigenvalue set consists of an isolated null eigenvalue plus a continuous family of eigen…
We employ a variational approach to study the Neumann boundary value problem for the $p$-Laplacian on bounded smooth-enough domains in the metric setting, and show that solutions exist and are bounded. The boundary data considered are Borel measurable bounded functions. We also study boundary continuity properties of the solutions. One of the key tools utilized is the trace theorem for Newton-Sobolev functions, and another is an analog of the De Giorgi inequality adapted to the Neumann problem.
Let $G = N \rtimes A$, where $N$ is a stratified group and $A = \mathbb{R}$ acts on $N$ via automorphic dilations. Homogeneous sub-Laplacians on $N$ and $A$ can be lifted to left-invariant operators on $G$ and their sum is a sub-Laplacian $Δ$ on $G$. Here we prove weak type $(1,1)$, $L^p$-boundedness for $p \in (1,2]$ and $H^1 \to L^1$ boundedness of the Riesz transforms $Y Δ^{-1/2}$ and $Y Δ^{-1} Z$, where $Y$ and $Z$ are any horizontal left-invariant vector fields on $G$, as well as the corresponding dual boundedness results. At the crux of the argument are large-time bounds for spatial deri…
