We study a class of mixed local-nonlocal equations with Hartree-type nonlinearities of the form \begin{equation}\label{meqnab} -Δu + (-Δ)^s u + u = (I_α* F(u))\,F'(u) \quad \text{in } \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation} where $N \geq 3$, $s \in (0,1)$, and $F \in C^1(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})$ satisfies Berestycki-Lions type assumptions. The equation combines the classical Laplacian with the fractional Laplacian, while the Hartree-type nonlinearity is given by a nonlocal convolution term involving the Riesz potential $I_α$, with $α\in (0,N)$. We prove the existence of ground state solutions. To this end, we establish regularity properties and derive a Pohožaev-type identity for general weak solutions. Moreover, we obtain symmetry properties of ground state solutions via polarization methods.
This paper is devoted to a comprehensive study of the nonlinear Schrödinger equations with combined nonlinearities of the power-type and Hartree-type in any dimension n\ge3. With some structural conditions, a nearly whole picture of the interactions of these nonlinearities in the energy space is given. The method is based on the Morawetz estimates and perturbation principles.
The semi-classical regime of standing wave solutions of a Schrödinger equation in presence of non-constant electric and magnetic potentials is studied in the case of non-local nonlinearities of Hartree type. It is show that there exists a family of solutions having multiple concentration regions which are located around the minimum points of the electric potential.
In this paper, we are concerned with static Schrödinger-Hartree and Schrödinger-Maxwell equations with combined nonlinearities. We derive the explicit forms for positive solution $u$ in the critical case and non-existence of nontrivial nonnegative solutions in the subcritical cases (see Theorem \ref{Thm0} and \ref{Thm1}). The arguments used in our proof is a variant (for nonlocal nonlinearity) of the direct moving spheres method for fractional Laplacians in \cite{CLZ}. The main ingredients are the variants (for nonlocal nonlinearity) of the maximum principles, i.e., \emph{Narrow region princip…
We are interested in the general Choquard equation \begin{multline*} \sqrt{\strut -Δ+ m^2} \ u - mu + V(x)u - \fracμ{|x|} u = \left( \int_{\mathbb{R}^N} \frac{F(y,u(y))}{|x-y|^{N-α}} \, dy \right) f(x,u) - K (x) |u|^{q-2}u \end{multline*} under suitable assumptions on the bounded potential \(V\) and on the nonlinearity \(f\). Our analysis extends recent results by the second and third author on the problem with $μ= 0$ and pure-power nonlinearity $f(x,u)=|u|^{p-2}u$. We show that, under appropriate assumptions on the potential, whether the ground state does exist or not. Finally, we study the a…
We consider the long time asymptotics of (not necessarily small) odd solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with semi-linear and nonlocal Hartree nonlinearities, in one dimension of space. We assume data in the energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R})$ only, and we prove decay to zero in compact regions of space as time tends to infinity. We give three different results where decay holds: semilinear NLS, NLS with a suitable potential, and defocusing Hartree. The proof is based on the use of suitable virial identities, in the spirit of nonlinear Klein-Gordon models as in Kowalczyk-Martel-Muñoz, a…
We prove several existence and non existence results of solitary waves for a class of nonlinear pseudo-relativistic Hartree equations with general nonlinearities. We use variational methods and some new variational identities involving the half Laplacian.
We consider a class of pseudo-relativistic Hartree equations in presence of general nonlinearities not satisfying the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Using variational methods based on critical point theory, we show the existence of two non trivial signed solutions, one positive and one negative.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions to semi-classical Schroedinger equations with nonlinearities of Hartree type. For a weakly nonlinear scaling, we show the validity of an asymptotic superposition principle for slowly modulated highly oscillatory pulses. The result is based on a high-frequency averaging effect due to the nonlocal nature of the Hartree potential, which inhibits the creation of new resonant waves. In the proof we make use of the framework of Wiener algebras.
In this work, we investigate the problem of finite time blow up as well as the upper bound estimates of lifespan for solutions to small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with mixed nonlinearities $a |u_t|^p+b |u|^q$, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, which is related to both the Strauss conjecture and Glassey conjecture. In some cases, we obtain existence results, where the lower bound of the lifespan agrees with the upper bound in order. In addition, our results apply for semilinear damped wave equations, when the coefficient of the dissipation term is integrable (without sign co…
We prove decay with respect to some Lebesgue norms for a class of Schrödinger equations with non-local nonlinearities by showing new Morawetz inequalities and estimates. As a byproduct, we obtain large-data scattering in the energy space for the solutions to the systems of $N$ defocusing Schrödinger-Choquard equations with mass-energy intercritical nonlinearities in any space dimension and of defocusing Hartree-Fock equations, for any dimension $d\geq3$.
In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity results of nontrivial positive solutions to a quasilinear elliptic equation in $\RN$, when $N\geq2$, as \begin{equation} \Lp u+u^{p-1}=λ\hspace{0.2mm}k(x)u^{r-1}-h(x)u^{q-1}.\nonumber \end{equation} Here, $h(x),k(x)>0$ are Lebesgue measurable functions, $1<p<q<\infty$, $p<r<\min\{p^*,q\}$ if $p<N$ while $p<r<q$ if $p\geq N$, and $λ>0$ is a parameter.
We study in this article the blow-up of the solution of the generalized Tricomi equation in the presence of two mixed nonlinearities, namely we consider $$ (Tr) \hspace{1cm} u_{tt}-t^{2m}Δu=|u_t|^p+|u|^q, \quad \mbox{in}\ \mathbb{R}^N\times[0,\infty),$$ with small initial data, where $m\ge0$.\\ For the problem $(Tr)$ with $m=0$, which corresponds to the uniform wave speed of propagation, it is known that the presence of mixed nonlinearities generates a new blow-up region in comparison with the case of a one nonlinearity ($|u_t|^p$ or $|u|^q$). We show in the present work that the competition b…
This paper studies the multiplicity of normalized solutions to the Schrödinger equation with mixed nonlinearities \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu=λu+h(εx)|u|^{q-2}u+η|u|^{p-2}u,\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^N, \\ \int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|u|^2dx=a^2, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $a, ε, η>0$, $q$ is $L^2$-subcritical, $p$ is $L^2$-supercritical, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$ is an unknown parameter that appears as a Lagrange multiplier, $h$ is a positive and continuous function. It is proved that the numbers of normalized solutions are at least the numbers of global maximum points of $h$ when $ε$ is small enoug…
We investigate the NLS equation with competing Hartree-type and power-type nonlinearities \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{ll} i\partial _{t}ψ+Δψ+γ(I_{α}\ast |ψ|^{p})|ψ|^{p-2}ψ+μ|ψ|^{q-2}ψ=0, & \text{ }\forall (t,x)\in \mathbb{R\times R}^{N},% \end{array}% \end{equation*}% where $γμ<0$. We establish conditions for the local well-posedness in the energy space. Under the double $L^{2}$-supercritical case, we prove the existence and multiplicity of standing waves with prescribed mass by developing a constraint method when $γ<0,μ>0$ and $γ>0,μ<0, $ respectively. Moreover, we prove weak orbital stab…
In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear Schrödinger equations with mixed nonlinearities: \begin{eqnarray*} \left\{\aligned &-Δu=λu+μ|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{2^*-2}u\quad\text{in }\mathbb{R}^N,\\ &u\in H^1(\bbr^N),\quad\int_{\bbr^N}u^2=a^2, \endaligned\right. \end{eqnarray*} where $N\geq3$, $μ>0$, $λ\in\mathbb{R}$ and $2<q<2^*$. We prove in this paper \begin{enumerate} \item[$(1)$]\quad Existence of solutions of mountain-pass type for $N=3$ and $2<q<2+\frac{4}{N} $. \item[$(2)$]\quad Existence and nonexistence of ground states for $2+\frac{4}{N}\leq q<2^*$ with $μ>0$ large. \item[$(3)$]\quad …
We are interested in the following Dirichlet problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -Δu + λu - μ\frac{u}{|x|^2} - ν\frac{u}{\mathrm{dist}\,(x,\mathbb{R}^N \setminus Ω)^2} = f(x,u) & \quad \mbox{in } Ω\\ u = 0 & \quad \mbox{on } \partial Ω, \end{array} \right. $$ on a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ with $0 \in Ω$. We assume that the nonlinear part is superlinear on some closed subset $K \subset Ω$ and asymptotically linear on $Ω\setminus K$. We find a solution with the energy bounded by a certain min-max level, and infinitely many solutions provided that $f$ is odd in $u$. Moreover we stu…
We prove two new results about the Cauchy problem for nonlinear Schroedinger equations on four-dimensional compact manifolds. The first one concerns global wellposedness for Hartree-type nonlinearities and includes approximations of cubic NLS on the sphere. The second one provides local wellposedness for quadratic nonlinearities in the case of zonal data on the sphere. Both results are based on new multilinear Strichartz-type estimates for the Schroedinger group.
We consider nonlinear Schrödinger equations with either power-type or Hartree nonlinearity in the presence of an external potential. We show that for long-range nonlinearities, solutions cannot exhibit scattering to solitary waves or more general localized waves. This extends the well-known results concerning non-existence of non-trivial scattering states for long-range nonlinearities.
A non-homogeneous mixed local and nonlocal problem in divergence form is investigated for the validity of the global Calderón-Zygmund estimate for the weak solution to the Dirichlet problem of a nonlinear elliptic equation. We establish an optimal Calderón-Zygmund theory by finding not only a minimal regularity requirement on the mixed local and nonlocal operators but also a lower level of geometric assumption on the boundary of the domain for the global gradient estimate. More precisely, assuming that the nonlinearity of the local operator, whose prototype is the classical $(-Δ_p)^1$-Laplace …
In this paper, we study the nonexistence of positive solutions for the following two mixed boundary value problems. The first problem is the mixed nonlinear-Neumann boundary value problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} \displaystyle -Δu=f(u) &{\rm in}\quad \R, \\ \displaystyle \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=g(u) &{\rm on}\quad Γ_1,\\ \displaystyle \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=0 &{\rm on}\quad Γ_0 \end{array} \right. $$ and the second is the nonlinear-Dirichlet boundary value problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} \displaystyle -Δu=f(u) &{\rm in}\quad \R, \\ \displaystyle \\ \frac{\partial u}…
We consider the semiclassical limit of the Hartree equation with a data causing a focusing at a point. We study the asymptotic behavior of phase function associated with the WKB approximation near the caustic when a nonlinearity is supercritical. In this case, it is known that a phase shift occurs in a neighborhood of focusing time in the case of focusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Thanks to the smoothness of the nonlocal nonlinearities, we justify the WKB-type approximation of the solution for a data which is larger than in the previous results and is not necessarily well-prepared.…
We study the existence and nonexistence of normalized solutions $(u_a, λ_a)\in H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^N)\times \mathbb{R}$ to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with mixed nonlocal nonlinearities. This study can be viewed as a counterpart of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem in the context of normalized solutions to the nonlocal Schrödiger equation with a fixed $L^2$-norm $\|u\|_2=a>0$. The leading term is $L^2$-supercritical, that is, $p\in (\frac{N+α+2}{N},\frac{N+α}{N-2}]$, where the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev critical exponent $p=\frac{N+α}{N-2}$ appears. We first prove that there exist two normalized …
We consider the evolution of $N$ fermions interacting through a Coulomb or gravitational potential in the mean-field limit as governed by the nonlinear Hartree equation with Coulomb or gravitational interaction. In the limit of large $N$, we study the convergence in trace norm towards the classical Vlasov-Poisson equation for a special class of mixed quasi-free states.
We prove that certain Sobolev-type norms, slightly stronger than those given by energy conservation, stay bounded uniformly in time and $N$. This allows one to extend the local existence results of the second and third author globally in time. The proof is based on interaction Morawetz-type estimates and Strichartz estimates (including some new end-point results) for the equation $\{ \frac{1}{i}\partial_t-Δ_{x}-Δ_{y}+\frac{1}{N}V_N(x-y) \}Λ(t, x, y) =F$ in mixed coordinates such as $L^p(dt) L^q(dx) L^2(dy)$, $L^p(dt) L^q(dy) L^2(dx)$, $L^p(dt) L^q(d(x-y)) L^2(d(x+y))$. The main new technical i…
In this work, we study an elliptic problem involving an operator of mixed order with both local and nonlocal aspects, and in either the presence or the absence of a singular nonlinearity. We investigate existence or non-existence properties, power and exponential type Sobolev regularity results, and the boundary behavior of the weak solution, in the light of the interplay between the summability of the datum and the power exponent in singular nonlinearities.
We study the global behavior of solutions to the nonlinear generalized Hartree equation, where the nonlinearity is of the non-local type and is expressed as a convolution, $$ i u_t + Δu + (|x|^{-(N-γ)} \ast |u|^p)|u|^{p-2}u=0, \quad x \in \mathbb{R}^N, t\in \mathbb{R}. $$ Our main goal is to understand behavior of $H^1$ (finite energy) solutions of this equation in various settings. In this work we make an initial attempt towards this goal. We first investigate the $H^1$ local wellposedness and small data theory. We then, in the intercritical regime ($0<s<1$), classify the behavior of $H^1$ so…
We establish existence results for a class of mixed anisotropic and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equation with singular nonlinearities. We consider both constant and variable singular exponents. Our argument is based on an approximation method. To this end, we also discuss the necessary regularity properties of weak solutions of the associated non-singular problems. More precisely, we obtain local boundedness of subsolutions, Harnack inequality for solutions and weak Harnack inequality for supersolutions.
We consider the non-relativistic Hartree model in the gravitational case, i.e. with attractive Coulomb-Newton interaction. For a given mass, we construct stationary states with non-zero temperature by minimizing the corresponding free energy functional. It is proved that minimizers exist if and only if the temperature of the system is below a certain threshold(possibly infinite), which itself depends on the specific choice of the entropy functional. We also investigate whether the corresponding minimizers are mixed or pure quantum states and characterize a positive critical temperature above w…
In this paper we consider the blow-up of solutions to a weakly coupled system of semilinear damped wave equations in the scattering case with nonlinearities of mixed type, namely, in one equation a power nonlinearity and in the other a semilinear term of derivative type. The proof of the blow-up results is based on an iteration argument. As expected, due to the assumptions on the coefficients of the damping terms, we find as critical curve in the p-q plane for the pair of exponents (p,q) in the nonlinear terms the same one found by Hidano-Yokoyama and, recently, by Ikeda-Sobajima-Wakasa for th…
