We study in this article the blow-up of the solution of the generalized Tricomi equation in the presence of two mixed nonlinearities, namely we consider $$ (Tr) \hspace{1cm} u_{tt}-t^{2m}Δu=|u_t|^p+|u|^q, \quad \mbox{in}\ \mathbb{R}^N\times[0,\infty),$$ with small initial data, where $m\ge0$.\\ For the problem $(Tr)$ with $m=0$, which corresponds to the uniform wave speed of propagation, it is known that the presence of mixed nonlinearities generates a new blow-up region in comparison with the case of a one nonlinearity ($|u_t|^p$ or $|u|^q$). We show in the present work that the competition between the two nonlinearities still yields a new blow region for the Tricomi equation $(Tr)$ with $m\ge0$, and we derive an estimate of the lifespan in terms of the Tricomi parameter $m$. As an application of the method developed for the study of the equation $(Tr)$ we obtain with a different approach the same blow-up result as in \cite{Lai2020} when we consider only one time-derivative nonlinearity, namely we keep only $|u_t|^p$ in the right-hand side of $(Tr)$.
In this paper, we consider the blow-up problem of semilinear generalized Tricomi equation. Two blow-up results with lifespan upper bound are obtained under subcritical and critical Strauss type exponent. In the subcritical case, the proof is based on the test function method and the iteration argument. In the critical case, an iteration procedure with the slicing method is employed. This approach has been successfully applied to the critical case of semilinear wave equation with perturbed Laplacian or the damped wave equation of scattering damping case. The present work gives its application t…
Blow-up and lifespan estimate for the generalized tricomi equation with the scale-invariant damping and time derivative nonlinearity on exterior domain
We study in this paper the small data Cauchy problem for the semilinear generalized Tricomi equations with a nonlinear term of derivative type $u_{tt}-t^{2m}Δu=|u_t|^p$ for $m\ge0$. Blow-up result and lifespan estimate from above are established for $1<p\le 1+\frac{2}{(m+1)(n-1)-m}$. If $m=0$, our results coincide with those of the semilinear wave equation. The novelty consists in the construction of a new test function, by combining cut-off functions, the modified Bessel function and a harmonic function. Interestingly, if $n=2$ the blow-up power is independent of $m$. We also furnish a local …
In the present paper, we investigate the blow-up dynamics for local solutions to the semilinear generalized Tricomi equation with combined nonlinearity. As a result, we enlarge the blow-up region in comparison to the ones for the corresponding semilinear models with either power nonlinearity or nonlinearity of derivative type. Our approach is based on an iteration argument to establish lower bound estimates for the space average of local solutions. Finally, we obtain upper bound estimates for the lifespan of local solutions as byproduct of our iteration argument.
In this note, we prove a blow-up result for a semilinear generalized Tricomi equation with nonlinear term of derivative type, i.e., for the equation $\mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell} u = |\partial_t u|^p$, where $ \mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell} = \partial_t^2-t^{2\ell}Δ$. Smooth solutions blow up in finite time for positive Cauchy data when the exponent $p$ of the nonlinear term is below $\frac{\mathscr{Q}}{\mathscr{Q}-2}$, where $\mathscr{Q}=(\ell+1)n+1$ is the quasi-homogeneous dimension of the generalized Tricomi operator $\mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell}$. Furthermore, we get also an upper bound estimate for the life…
In the present paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the weakly coupled system of the generalized Tricomi equations with multiple propagation speeds. Our aim of this paper is to prove a small data blow-up result and an upper estimate of lifespan of the problem for a suitable compactly supported initial data in the subcritical and critical cases of the Strauss type. The proof is based on the framework of the argument in the paper [17]. One of our new contributions is to construct two families of special solutions to the free equation (see (2.16) or (2.18) as the test functions and prove their …
In the present paper, we investigate blow-up and lifespan estimates for a class of semilinear hyperbolic coupled system in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $n\geqslant 1$, which is part of the so-called Nakao's type problem weakly coupled a semilinear damped wave equation with a semilinear wave equation with nonlinearities of derivative type. By constructing two time-dependent functionals and employing an iteration method for unbounded multiplier with slicing procedure, the results of blow-up and upper bound estimates for the lifespan of energy solutions are derived. The model seems to be hyperbolic-like i…
This paper investigates the combined effects of two distinctive power-type nonlinear terms (with parameters $p,q>1$) in the lifespan of small solutions to semi-linear wave equations. We determine the full region of $(p,q)$ to admit global existence of small solutions, at least for spatial dimensions $n=2, 3$. Moreover, for many $(p,q)$ when there is no global existence, we obtain sharp lower bound of the lifespan, which is of the same order as the upper bound of the lifespan.

In this article, we consider the damped wave equation in the \textit{scale-invariant case} with time-dependent speed of propagation, mass term and time derivative nonlinearity. More precisely, we study the blow-up of the solutions to the following equation: $$ (E) \quad u_{tt}-t^{2m}Δu+\fracμ{t}u_t+\frac{ν^2}{t^2}u=|u_t|^p, \quad \mbox{in}\ \mathbb{R}^N\times[1,\infty), $$ that we associate with small initial data. Assuming some assumptions on the mass and damping coefficients, $ν$ and $μ>0$, respectively, that the blow-up region and the lifespan bound of the solution of $(E)$ remain the same …
We consider the Cauchy problem of systems of quasilinear wave equations in 2-dimensional space. We assume that the propagation speeds are distinct and that the nonlinearities contain quadratic and cubic terms of the first and second order derivatives of the solution. We know that if the all quadratic and cubic terms of nonlinearities satisfy $Strong$ $Null$-$condition$, then there exists a global solution for sufficiently small initial data. In this paper, we study about the lifespan of the smooth solution, when the cubic terms in the quasi-linear nonlinearities do not satisfy the Strong null-…
In this work, we investigate the problem of finite time blow up as well as the upper bound estimates of lifespan for solutions to small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with mixed nonlinearities $a |u_t|^p+b |u|^q$, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, which is related to both the Strauss conjecture and Glassey conjecture. In some cases, we obtain existence results, where the lower bound of the lifespan agrees with the upper bound in order. In addition, our results apply for semilinear damped wave equations, when the coefficient of the dissipation term is integrable (without sign co…
In this paper, we consider the semi-linear wave systems with power-nonlinearities and a large class of space-dependent damping and potential. We obtain the same blow-up regions and the lifespan estimates for three types wave systems, compared with the systems without damping and potential.
In this work, we investigate the problem of finite time blow up as well as the upper bound estimates of lifespan for solutions to small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with time dependent damping and potential, and mixed nonlinearities $c_1 |u_t|^p+c_2 |u|^q$, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, which is related to both the Strauss conjecture and the Glassey conjecture.
In this paper we study several semilinear damped wave equations with "subcritical" nonlinearities, focusing on demonstrating lifespan estimates for energy solutions. Our main concern is on equations with scale-invariant damping and mass. Under different assumptions imposed on the initial data, lifespan estimates from above are clearly showed. The key fact is that we find "transition surfaces", which distinguish lifespan estimates between "wave-like" and "heat-like" behaviours. Moreover we conjecture that the lifespan estimates on the "transition surfaces" can be logarithmically improved. As di…
We are interested in this article in studying the damped wave equation with localized initial data, in the \textit{scale-invariant case} with mass term and two combined nonlinearities. More precisely, we consider the following equation: $$ (E) {1cm} u_{tt}-Δu+\fracμ{1+t}u_t+\frac{ν^2}{(1+t)^2}u=|u_t|^p+|u|^q, \quad \mbox{in}\ \mathbb{R}^N\times[0,\infty), $$ with small initial data. Under some assumptions on the mass and damping coefficients, $ν$ and $μ>0$, respectively, we show that blow-up region and the lifespan bound of the solution of $(E)$ remain the same as the ones obtained in \cite{Ou…

In this paper we consider the wave equations with power type nonlinearities including time-derivatives of unknown functions and their weakly coupled systems. We propose a framework of test function method and give a simple proof of the derivation of sharp upper bound of lifespan of solutions to nonlinear wave equations and their systems. We point out that for respective critical case, we use a family of self-similar solution to the standard wave equation including Gauss's hypergeometric functions which are originally introduced by Zhou (1992). However, our framework is much simpler than that. …
We consider in this article the damped wave equation, in the \textit{scale-invariant case} with combined two nonlinearities, which reads as follows: \begin{displaymath} \d (E) \hspace{1cm} u_{tt}-Δu+\fracμ{1+t}u_t=|u_t|^p+|u|^q, \quad \mbox{in}\ \R^N\times[0,\infty), \end{displaymath} with small initial data.\\ Compared to our previous work \cite{Our}, we show in this article that the first hypothesis on the damping coefficient $μ$, namely $μ< \frac{N(q-1)}{2}$, can be removed, and the second one can be extended from $(0, μ_*/2)$ to $(0, μ_*)$ where $μ_*>0$ is solution of $(q-1)\left((N+μ_*-1)…
Blow-up phenomena ofvweakly coupled systems of several evolution equations, especially complex Ginzburg-Landau equationsvis shown by a straightforward ODE approach not so-called test-function method, which gives the natural blow-up rate. The difficulty of the proof is that, unlike the single case, terms which come from the fact that the Laplacian cannot be absorbed into the weakly coupled nonlinearities. A similar ODE approach is applied to heat systems by Mochizuki to obtain the lower estimate of lifespan.
We consider a family of Schrödinger equations with unbounded Hamiltonian quadratic nonlinearities on a generic tori of dimension $d\geq1$. We study the behaviour of high Sobolev norms $H^{s}$, $s\gg1$, of solutions with initial conditions in $H^{s}$ whose $H^ρ$-Sobolev norm, $1\llρ\ll s$, is smaller than $\e\ll1$. We provide a control of the $H^{s}$-norm over a time interval of order $O(\e^{-2})$. %where $\e\ll1$ is the size of the initial condition in $H^ρ$. Due to the lack of conserved quantities controlling high Sobolev norms, the key ingredient of the proof is the construction of a modifie…
In this paper we consider the blow-up of solutions to a weakly coupled system of semilinear damped wave equations in the scattering case with nonlinearities of mixed type, namely, in one equation a power nonlinearity and in the other a semilinear term of derivative type. The proof of the blow-up results is based on an iteration argument. As expected, due to the assumptions on the coefficients of the damping terms, we find as critical curve in the p-q plane for the pair of exponents (p,q) in the nonlinear terms the same one found by Hidano-Yokoyama and, recently, by Ikeda-Sobajima-Wakasa for th…
