A quantum analogue of the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) for bosonic system, first introduced by Cushen and Hudson (1971), states that the $n$-fold convolution $ρ^{\boxplus n}$ of an $m$-mode quantum state $ρ$, with zero first moments and finite second moments, converges weakly, as $n$ increases, to a Gaussian state $ρ_G$ with the same first and second moments as those of $ρ$, called its Gaussification. Recently, this result has been extended with estimates of the convergence rate in various distance measures. In this paper, we establish optimal rates of convergence in both the trace distance and quantum relative entropy. Specifically, we show that for a centered $m$-mode quantum state with finite third-order moments, the trace distance between $ρ^{\boxplus n}$ and $ρ_G$ decays at the optimal rate of $\mathcal{O}(n^{-1/2})$. Furthermore, for states with finite fourth-order moments (order $4+δ$ for an arbitrary small $δ>0$ if $m>1$), we prove that the relative entropy between $ρ^{\boxplus n}$ and $ρ_G$ decays at the optimal rate of $\mathcal{O}(n^{-1})$. Both of these rates are proven to be optimal, even when assuming the finiteness of all moments of $ρ$. These results relax previous assumptions on higher-order moments, yielding convergence rates that match the best known results in the classical setting. By giving explicit examples we also show that our moment assumptions are essentially minimal. Our proofs draw on techniques from the classical literature, including Edgeworth-type expansions of quantum characteristic functions, adapted to the quantum context. A key technical step in the proof of our entropic CLT is establishing an upper bound on the relative entropy distance between a general quantum state and its Gaussification, which is of independent interest.
The Renyi entropy plays an essential role in quantum information theory. We study the continuity estimation of the Renyi entropy. An inequality relating the Renyi entropy difference of two quantum states to their trace norm distance is derived. This inequality is shown to be tight in the sense that equality can be attained for every prescribed value of the trace norm distance. It includes the sharp Fannes inequality for von Neumann entropy as a special case.
A well-known result due to Fannes is a certain upper bound on the modulus of continuity of the von Neumann entropy with respect to the trace distance between density matrices; this distance is the maximum probability of distinguishing between the corresponding quantum states. Much more recently, Audenaert obtained an exact expression of this modulus of continuity. In the present note, Audenaert's result is extended to a broad class of entropy functions indexed by arbitrary continuous convex functions $f$ in place of the Shannon--von Neumann function $x\mapsto x\log_2x$. The proof is based on t…
A Unified Treatment of Convexity of Relative Entropy and Related Trace Functions, with Conditions for Equality
我们介绍了一个推广的相对熵来自Wigner-Yanase-Dyson熵,并给出了一个简单的,自足的证明,它是凸的。此外,特殊情况产生了相对熵的联合凸性,并且对于映射(A,B)--> Tr K^* A^p K B^{1-p},0 < p < 1时是Lieb的联合凸性,1 < p < 2时是Ando的联合凸性。这种方法使我们能够获得这些情况下的平等条件,以及由此产生的一些不平等的平等条件。其中包括部分迹下的单调性,以及由Lieb和Carlen证明的关于混合(p,q)范数的Minkowski型矩阵不等式。在所有情况下,等式条件与p无关;对于三个空间的扩张,它们与相对熵的强次可加性中的等式条件相同。
Spontaneous localisation is a falsifiable, phenomenological, mechanism for explaining the absence of macroscopic position superpositions, currently being tested for in the laboratory. The theory of trace dynamics provides a possible theoretical origin for spontaneous localisation. We have recently proposed how to employ non-commutative geometry to include gravity in trace dynamics, and suggested the emergence of classical space-time geometry via spontaneous localisation. In our theory, which we call non-commutative matter gravity, a black hole arises from the spontaneous localisation of an ent…
We investigate competing entanglement dynamics in an open Ising-spin chain coupled to an external central ancilla qudit. In studying the real-time behavior following a quench from an unentangled spin-ancilla state, we find that the ancilla entanglement entropy $S_{vN;\mathcal{A}}$ tracks the dynamical phase transition in the underlying spin system. In this composite setting, purely spin-spin entanglement metrics such as mutual information and quantum Fisher information (QFI) decay as the ancilla entanglement entropy grows. We define multipartite entanglement loss (MEL) as the difference betwee…
The requirement that an entropy function be composable is key: it means that the entropy of a compound system can be calculated in terms of the entropy of its independent components. We prove that, under mild regularity assumptions, the only composable generalized entropy in trace form is the Tsallis one-parameter family (which contains Boltzmann-Gibbs as a particular case). This result leads to the use of generalized entropies that are not of trace form, such as Rényi's entropy, in the study of complex systems. In this direction, we also present a characterization theorem for a large class of…
We propose and experimentally measure an entropy that quantifies the volume of correlations among qubits. The experiment is carried out on a nearly isolated quantum system composed of a central spin coupled and initially uncorrelated with 15 other spins. Due to the spin-spin interactions, information flows from the central spin to the surrounding ones forming clusters of multi-spin correlations that grow in time. We design a nuclear magnetic resonance experiment that directly measures the amplitudes of the multi-spin correlations and use them to compute the evolution of what we call correlatio…

Trace inequalities are general techniques with many applications in quantum information theory, often replacing classical functional calculus in noncommutative settings. The physics of quantum field theory and holography, however, motivate entropy inequalities in type III von Neumann algebras that lack a semifinite trace. The Haagerup and Kosaki $L_p$ spaces enable re-expressing trace inequalities in non-tracial von Neumann algebras. In particular, we show this for the generalized Araki-Lieb-Thirring and Golden-Thompson inequalities from (Sutter, Berta \& Tomamichel 2017). Then, using the Haag…
We present a genuine coherence measure based on a quasi-relative entropy as a difference between quasi-entropies of the dephased and the original states. The measure satisfies non-negativity and monotonicity under genuine incoherent operations (GIO). It is strongly monotone under GIO in two- and three-dimensions, or for pure states in any dimension, making it a genuine coherence monotone. We provide a bound on the error term in the monotonicity relation in terms of the trace distance between the original and the dephased states. Moreover, the lower bound on the coherence measure can also be ca…
We prove that the quantum relative entropy decreases monotonically under the application of any positive trace-preserving linear map, for underlying separable Hilbert spaces. This answers in the affirmative a natural question that has been open for a long time, as monotonicity had previously only been shown to hold under additional assumptions, such as complete positivity or Schwarz-positivity of the adjoint map. The first step in our proof is to show monotonicity of the sandwiched Renyi divergences under positive trace-preserving maps, extending a proof of the data processing inequality by Be…
We provide a countable set of conditions based on elementary symmetric polynomials that are necessary and sufficient for a trace class integral operator to be positive semidefinite, which is an important cornerstone for quantum theory in phase-space representation. We also present a new, efficiently computable algorithm based on Newton's identities. Our test of positivity is much more sensitive than the ones given by the linear entropy and Robertson-Schrödinger's uncertainty relations; our first condition is equivalent to the non-negativity of the linear entropy.
A noncommutative extension of an ideal (Hamiltonian) fluid model in $3+1$-dimensions is proposed. The model enjoys several interesting features: it allows a multi-parameter central extension in Galilean boost algebra (which is significant being contrary to existing belief that similar feature can appear only in $2+1$-dim.); noncommutativity generates vorticity in a canonically irrotational fluid; it induces a non-barotropic pressure leading to a non-isentropic system. (Barotropic fluids are entropy preserving as pressure depends only on matter density.) Our fluid model is termed "Exotic" since…
We consider an ensemble of random density matrices distributed according to the Bures measure. The corresponding joint probability density of eigenvalues is described by the fixed trace Bures-Hall ensemble of random matrices which, in turn, is related to its unrestricted trace counterpart via a Laplace transform. We investigate the spectral statistics of both these ensembles and, in particular, focus on the level density, for which we obtain exact closed-form results involving Pfaffians. In the fixed trace case, the level density expression is used to obtain an exact result for the average Hav…
Entanglement entropy of gauge fields is calculated using the partition function in curved spacetime with a boundary. We derive a Gibbons-Hawking-like term from a Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) action and a Wald-entropy-like codimension-2 surface term is produced. It is further suggested that boundary degrees of freedom localized on the entanglement surface generated from the gauge redundancy could be used to resolve a subtle mismatch in a universal conformal anomaly- entanglement entropy relation.
We investigate a weak version of subsystem eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) for a two-dimensional large central charge conformal field theory by comparing the local equivalence of high energy state and thermal state of canonical ensemble. We evaluate the single-interval Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy for a heavy primary state in short interval expansion. We verify the results of Rényi entropy by two different replica methods. We find nontrivial results at the eighth order of short interval expansion, which include an infinite number of higher order terms in the large central …
