We propose and experimentally measure an entropy that quantifies the volume of correlations among qubits. The experiment is carried out on a nearly isolated quantum system composed of a central spin coupled and initially uncorrelated with 15 other spins. Due to the spin-spin interactions, information flows from the central spin to the surrounding ones forming clusters of multi-spin correlations that grow in time. We design a nuclear magnetic resonance experiment that directly measures the amplitudes of the multi-spin correlations and use them to compute the evolution of what we call correlation Rényi entropy. This entropy keeps growing even after the equilibration of the entanglement entropy. We also analyze how the saturation point and the timescale for the equilibration of the correlation Rényi entropy depend on the system size.
We present a family of coherence quantifiers based on the generalized $α-z-$relative R$\acute{e}$nyi entropy. These quantifiers satisfy all the standard criteria for well-defined measures of coherence, and include some existing coherence measures as special cases.
The R{é}nyi entropy is one of the important information measures that generalizes Shannon's entropy. The quantum R{é}nyi entropy has a fundamental role in quantum information theory, therefore, bounding this quantity is of vital importance. Another important quantity is R{é}nyi relative entropy on which R{é}nyi generalization of the conditional entropy, and mutual information are defined based. Thus, finding lower bound for R{é}nyi relative entropy is our goal in this paper. We use matrix inequalities to prove new bounds on the entropy of type $β$, R{é}nyi entropy.
Hastings disproved additivity conjecture for minimum output entropy by using random unitary channels. In this note, we employ his approach to show that minimum output $p-$Rényi entropy is non-additive for $p\in(0,p_0)\cup(1-p_0,1)$ where $p_0\approx 0.2855$.
In this paper, we review how to obtain the central charge of a critical entanglement Hamiltonian through the nested entanglement entropy which was first introduced in [J. Lou et al. PRB 84, 245128 (2011)]. The critical phenomena of the entanglement Hamiltonian can be identified by the central charge obtained by the nested entanglement entropy. We review our previous studies[J. Lou et al. PRB 84, 245128 (2011), S. Tanaka et al. PRA 87, 214401 (2013)] in which we investigated certain entanglement nature of two-dimensional valence-bond-solid (VBS) state and quantum hard-square models on square an…
We investigate a weak version of subsystem eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) for a two-dimensional large central charge conformal field theory by comparing the local equivalence of high energy state and thermal state of canonical ensemble. We evaluate the single-interval Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy for a heavy primary state in short interval expansion. We verify the results of Rényi entropy by two different replica methods. We find nontrivial results at the eighth order of short interval expansion, which include an infinite number of higher order terms in the large central …
Information based uncertainty measures like R{é}nyi entropy (R), Shannon entropy (S) and Onicescu energy (E) (in both position and momentum space) are employed to understand the influence of radial confinement in isotropic harmonic oscillator. The transformation of Hamiltonian in to a dimensionless form gives an idea of the composite effect of oscillation frequency ($ω$) and confinement radius ($r_{c}$). For a given quantum state, accurate results are provided by applying respective \emph{exact} analytical wave function in $r$ space. The $p$-space wave functions are produced from Fourier trans…
We study the average entanglement entropy of blocks of contiguous spins in aperiodic XXZ chains which possess an aperiodic singlet phase at least in a certain limit of the coupling ratios. In this phase, where the ground state constructed by a real space renormalization group method, consists (asymptotically) of independent singlet pairs, the average entanglement entropy is found to be a piecewise linear function of the block size. The enveloping curve of this function is growing logarithmically with the block size, with an effective central charge in front of the logarithm which is characteri…
Entanglement entropy of gauge fields is calculated using the partition function in curved spacetime with a boundary. We derive a Gibbons-Hawking-like term from a Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) action and a Wald-entropy-like codimension-2 surface term is produced. It is further suggested that boundary degrees of freedom localized on the entanglement surface generated from the gauge redundancy could be used to resolve a subtle mismatch in a universal conformal anomaly- entanglement entropy relation.
A noncommutative extension of an ideal (Hamiltonian) fluid model in $3+1$-dimensions is proposed. The model enjoys several interesting features: it allows a multi-parameter central extension in Galilean boost algebra (which is significant being contrary to existing belief that similar feature can appear only in $2+1$-dim.); noncommutativity generates vorticity in a canonically irrotational fluid; it induces a non-barotropic pressure leading to a non-isentropic system. (Barotropic fluids are entropy preserving as pressure depends only on matter density.) Our fluid model is termed "Exotic" since…
Shannon entropy ($S$), R{é}nyi entropy ($R$), Tsallis entropy ($T$), Fisher information ($I$) and Onicescu energy ($E$) have been explored extensively in both \emph{free} H atom (FHA) and \emph{confined} H atom (CHA). For a given quantum state, accurate results are presented by employing respective \emph{exact} analytical wave functions in $r$ space. The $p$-space wave functions are generated from respective Fourier transforms$-$for FHA these can be expressed analytically in terms of Gegenbauer polynomials, whereas in CHA these are computed numerically. \emph{Exact} mathematical expressions of…
We consider the spin k/2 analogue of the XXZ quantum spin chain. We compute the entanglement entropy S associated with splitting the infinite chain into two semi-infinite pieces. In the scaling limit, we find S ~ c_k/6 (ln(xi))+ln(g)+... . Here xi is the correlation length and c_k=3k/(k+2) is the central charge associated with the sl_2 WZW model at level k. ln(g) is the boundary entropy of the WZW model. Our result extends previous observations and suggests that this is a simple and perhaps rather general way both of extracting the central charge of the ultraviolet CFT associated with the scal…
Shannon entropy of the measurement record at measurement-dominated criticality and RG flow: A c-theorem for effective central charge and a g-theorem for effective boundary entropy
We re-examine holographic versions of the c-theorem and entanglement entropy in the context of higher curvature gravity and the AdS/CFT correspondence. We select the gravity theories by tuning the gravitational couplings to eliminate non-unitary operators in the boundary theory and demonstrate that all of these theories obey a holographic c-theorem. In cases where the dual CFT is even-dimensional, we show that the quantity that flows is the central charge associated with the A-type trace anomaly. Here, unlike in conventional holographic constructions with Einstein gravity, we are able to disti…
For quantum critical spin chains without disorder, it is known that the entanglement of a segment of N>>1 spins with the remainder is logarithmic in N with a prefactor fixed by the central charge of the associated conformal field theory. We show that for a class of strongly random quantum spin chains, the same logarithmic scaling holds for mean entanglement at criticality and defines a critical entropy equivalent to central charge in the pure case. This effective central charge is obtained for Heisenberg, XX, and quantum Ising chains using an analytic real-space renormalization group approach …
We investigate competing entanglement dynamics in an open Ising-spin chain coupled to an external central ancilla qudit. In studying the real-time behavior following a quench from an unentangled spin-ancilla state, we find that the ancilla entanglement entropy $S_{vN;\mathcal{A}}$ tracks the dynamical phase transition in the underlying spin system. In this composite setting, purely spin-spin entanglement metrics such as mutual information and quantum Fisher information (QFI) decay as the ancilla entanglement entropy grows. We define multipartite entanglement loss (MEL) as the difference betwee…
Interacting central spin systems, in which a central spin is coupled to a strongly correlated spin bath with intrabath interaction, consist of an important class of spin systems beyond the usual Gaudin magnet. These systems are relevant to several realistic setups and serve as an interesting platform to study interaction controlled decoherence and frustration induced instability of magnetic order. Using an equations-of-motion method based on analytical representations of spin-operator matrix elements in the XX chain, we obtain exact long-time dynamics of a generalized Heisenberg star consistin…
Quantum entanglement is one essential element to characterize many-body quantum systems. However, the entanglement measures are mostly discussed in Hermitian systems. Here, we propose a natural extension of entanglement and Rényi entropies to non-Hermitian quantum systems. There have been other proposals for the computation of these quantities, which are distinct from what is proposed in the current paper. We demonstrate the proposed entanglement quantities which are referred to as generic entanglement and Rényi entropies. These quantities capture the desired entanglement properties in non-Her…
