Funct. Anal.
In this paper, we investigate the following elliptic system with Sobolev critical growth $-Δu+P(|y'|,y'')u=u^{2^*-1}+\fracβ{2} u^{\frac{2^*}{2}-1}v^{\frac{2^*}{2}},\ y\in R^N$,
$-Δv+Q(|y'|,y'')v=v^{2^*-1}+\fracβ{2} v^{\frac{2^*}{2}-1}u^{\frac{2^*}{2}}$, $y\in R^N ,u,v>0,u,\,v\in H^1(R^N), $ where~$(y',y'')\in R^2 \times R^{N-2}$, $P(|y'|,y''), Q(|y'|,y'')$ are bounded non-negative function in $R^+\times R^{N-2}$, $2^*=\frac{2N}{N-2}$. By combining a finite reduction argument and local Pohozaev type of identities, assuming that $N\geq 5$ and $r^2(P(r,y'')+κ^2Q(r,y''))$ have a common topologically nontrivial critical point, we construct an unbounded sequence of non-radial positive vector solutions of synchronized type, whose energy can be made arbitrarily large. Our result extends the result of a single critical problem by [Peng, Wang and Yan,J. Funct. Anal. 274: 2606-2633, 2018]. The novelties mainly include the following two aspects. On one hand, when $N\geq5$, the coupling exponent $\frac{2}{N-2}<1$, which creates a great trouble for us to apply the perturbation argument directly. This constitutes the main difficulty different between the coupling system and a single equation. On the other hand, the weaker symmetry conditions of $P(y)$ and $Q(y)$ make us not estimate directly the corresponding derivatives of the reduced functional in locating the concentration points of the solutions, we employ some local Pohozaev identities to locate them.
We prove Pohozaev-type identities for smooth solutions of Euler-Lagrange equations of second and fourth order that arise from functional depending on homogeneous Hörmander vector fields. We then exploit such integral identities to prove non-existence results for the associated boundary value problems.
Sobolev-type regularity results are proved for solutions to a class of second order elliptic equations with a singular or degenerate weight, under non-homogeneous Neumann conditions. As an application a Pohozaev-type identity for weak solutions is derived.
We establish Pohozaev identities and integration by parts type formulas for anisotropic integro-differential operators of order $2s$, with $s\in(0,1)$. These identities involve local boundary terms, in which the quantity $u/d^s|_{\partialΩ}$ plays the role that $\partial u/\partialν$ plays in the second order case. Here, $u$ is any solution to $Lu=f(x,u)$ in $Ω$, with $u=0$ in $\mathbb R^n\setminusΩ$, and $d$ is the distance to $\partialΩ$.
We establish an integration by parts formula in bounded domains for the higher order fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^s$ with $s>1$. We also obtain the Pohozaev identity for this operator. Both identities involve local boundary terms, and they extend the identities obtained by the authors in the case $s\in(0,1)$. As an immediate consequence of these results, we obtain a unique continuation property for the eigenfunctions $(-Δ)^sϕ=λϕ$ in $Ω$, $ϕ\equiv0$ in $\mathbb R^n\setminusΩ$.
In this expository paper we survey some recent results on Dirichlet problems of the form $Lu=f(x,u)$ in $Ω$, $u\equiv0$ in $\mathbb R^n\backslashΩ$. We first discuss in detail the boundary regularity of solutions, stating the main known results of Grubb and of the author and Serra. We also give a simplified proof of one of such results, focusing on the main ideas and on the blow-up techniques that we developed in \cite{RS-K,RS-stable}. After this, we present the Pohozaev identities established in \cite{RS-Poh,RSV,Grubb-Poh} and give a sketch of their proofs, which use strongly the fine boundar…
In this paper, we study a class of the critical Choquard equations with axisymmetric potentials, $$ -Δu+ V(|x'|,x'')u =\Big(|x|^{-4}\ast |u|^{2}\Big)u\hspace{4.14mm}\mbox{in}\hspace{1.14mm} \mathbb{R}^6, $$ where $(x',x'')\in \mathbb{R}^2\times\mathbb{R}^{4}$, $V(|x'|, x'')$ is a bounded nonnegative function in $\mathbb{R}^{+}\times\mathbb{R}^{4}$, and $*$ stands for the standard convolution. The equation is critical in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. By applying a finite dimensional reduction argument and developing novel local Pohožaev identities, we prove that if the f…
We consider the following fractional Schrödinger equation involving critical exponent: \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ)^s u+V(|y'|,y'')u=u^{2^*_s-1} \ \hbox{ in } \ \mathbb{R}^N, \\ u>0, \ y \in \mathbb{R}^N, \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $s\in(\frac{1}{2}, 1)$, $(y',y'')\in \mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{R}^{N-2}$, $V(|y'|,y'')$ is a bounded nonnegative function with a weaker symmetry condition. We prove the existence of infinitely many solutions for the above problem by a finite dimensional reduction method combining various Pohazaev identies.
The aim of this note is to discuss in more detail the Pohozaev-type identities that have been recently obtained by the author, Paul Laurain and Tristan Rivière in the framework of half-harmonic maps defined either on $R$ or on the sphere $S^1$ with values into a closed manifold $N^n\subset R^m$. Weak half-harmonic maps are critical points of the following nonlocal energy $$\int_{R}|(-Δ)^{1/4}u|^2 dx~~\mbox{or}~~\int_{S^1}|(-Δ)^{1/4}u|^2\ dθ.$$ If $u$ is a sufficiently smooth critical point of the above energy then it satisfies the following equation of stationarity $$\frac{du}{dx}\cdot (-Δ)^{1…
In this paper we prove a Pohozaev-type identity for both the problem $(-Δ+m^2)^su=f(u)$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$ and its harmonic extension to $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}_+$ when $0<s<1$. So, our setting includes the pseudo-relativistic operator $\sqrt{-Δ+m^2}$ and the results showed here are original, to the best of our knowledge. The identity is first obtained in the extension setting and then "translated" into the original problem. In order to do that, we develop a specific Fourier transform theory for the fractionary operator $(-Δ+m^2)^s$, which lead us to define a weak solution $u$ of the original problem…
Consider a classical elliptic pseudodifferential operator $P$ on ${\Bbb R}^n$ of order $2a$ ($0<a<1)$ with even symbol. For example, $P=A(x,D)^a$ where $A(x,D)$ is a second-order strongly elliptic differential operator; the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^a$ is a particular case. For solutions $u$ of the Dirichlet problem on a bounded smooth subset $Ω\subset{\Bbb R}^n$, we show an integration-by-parts formula with a boundary integral involving $(d^{-a}u)|_{\partialΩ}$, where $d(x)=\operatorname{dist}(x,\partialΩ)$. This extends recent results of Ros-Oton, Serra and Valdinoci, to operators that are …

In this paper, we are concerned with the weighted elliptic system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu=|x|^β v^{\vartheta},\\ -Δv=|x|^α |u|^{p-1}u, \end{cases}\quad \mbox{in}\;\ Ω, \end{equation*}where $Ω$ is a subset of $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \ge 5$, $α>-4$, $0 \le β\le \dfrac{N-4}{2}$, $p>1$ and $\vartheta=1$. We first apply Pohozaev identity to construct a monotonicity formula and find their certain equivalence relation. By the use of {\it Pohozaev identity}, {\it monotonicity formula} of solutions together with a {\it blowing down} sequence, we prove Liouville-type theorems of stable solutions …
We extend the classical Pohozaev's identity to semilinear elliptic systems of Hamiltonian type, providing a simpler approach, and a generalization, of the results of E. Mitidieri [6], R.C.A.M. Van der Vorst [14], and Y. Bozhkov and E. Mitidieri [1].
In this paper, we are concerned with Liouville-type theorems for the nonlinear elliptic equation {equation*} Δ^2 u=|x|^a |u|^{p-1}u\;\ {in}\;\ Ω, {equation*}where $a \ge 0$, $p>1$ and $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is an unbounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n \ge 5$. We prove Liouville-type theorems for solutions belonging to one of the following classes: stable solutions and finite Morse index solutions (whether positive or sign-changing). Our proof is based on a combination of the {\it Pohozaev-type identity}, {\it monotonicity formula} of solutions and a {\it blowing down} sequence, which is used …
We are concerned with the mean field equation with singular data on bounded domains. Under suitable non-degeneracy conditions we prove local uniqueness and non-degeneracy of bubbling solutions blowing up at singular points. The proof is based on sharp estimates for bubbling solutions of singular mean field equations and suitably defined Pohozaev-type identities.
In this paper, we consider the existence and non-existence of non-trivial solution to a Brezis-Nirenberg type problem with singular weights. First, we obtain a compact imbedding theorem which is an extension of the classical Rellich-Kondrachov compact imbedding theorem, and consider the corresponding eigenvalue problem. Secondly, we deduce a Pohozaev type identity and obtained a non-existence result. Thirdly, based on a generalized concentration compactness principle, we will give some abstract conditions when the functional satisfies the (PS)$_c$ condition. Finally, based on the explicit form…
Non-existence and uniqueness results are proved for several local and non-local supercritical bifurcation problems involving a semilinear elliptic equation depending on a parameter. The domain is star-shaped but no other symmetry assumption is required. Uniqueness holds when the bifurcation parameter is in a certain range. Our approach can be seen, in some cases, as an extension of non-existence results for non-trivial solutions. It is based on Rellich-Pohozaev type estimates. Semilinear elliptic equations naturally arise in many applications, for instance in astrophysics, hydrodynamics or the…
We study the existence and non-existence of nontrivial weak solution of $$ {Δ^2u-μ\frac{u}{|x|^{4}} = \frac{|u|^{q_β-2}u}{|x|^β}+|u|^{q-2}u\quad\textrm{in ${\mathbb R}^N$,}} $$ where $N\geq 5$, $q_β=\frac{2(N-β)}{N-4}$, $0<β<4$, $1<q\leq 2^{**}$ and $μ<μ_1:=\big(\frac{N(N-4)}{4}\big)^2$. Using Pohozaev type of identity, we prove the non-existence result when $1<q< 2^{**}$. On the other hand when the equation has multiple critical nonlinearities i.e. $q=2^{**}$ and $-(N-2)^2\leqμ<μ_1$, we establish the existence of nontrivial solution using the Mountain-Pass theorem by Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz…
We investigate the existence and local uniqueness of normalized $k$-peak solutions for the fractional Schrödinger equations with attractive interactions with a class of degenerated trapping potential with non-isolated critical points. Precisely, applying the finite dimensional reduction method, we first obtain the existence of $k$-peak concentrated solutions and especially describe the relationship between the chemical potential $μ$ and the attractive interaction $a$. Second, after precise analysis of the concentrated points and the Lagrange multiplier, we prove the local uniqueness of the $k$…
In this paper, we present some suitable distributional identities of the solutions for nonhomogeneous elliptic equations involving the Hardy-Leray potentials and study qualitative properties of the solutions to the corresponding nonhomogeneous problems by the distributional identities. We address some applications on the nonexistence of some nonhomogeneous problems with the Hardy-Leray potentials and the nonexistence principle eigenvalue with some indefinite potentials.
In the present paper, we study the normalized solutions with least energy to the following system: $$\begin{cases} -Δu+λ_1u=μ_1 |u|^{p-2}u+βr_1|u|^{r_1-2}|v|^{r_2}u\quad &\hbox{in}\;\mathbb R^N,\\ -Δv+λ_2v=μ_2 |v|^{q-2}v+βr_2|u|^{r_1}|v|^{r_2-2}v\quad&\hbox{in}\;\mathbb R^N,\\ \int_{\mathbb R^N}u^2=a_1^2\quad\hbox{and}\;\int_{\mathbb R^N}v^2=a_2^2, \end{cases}$$ where $p,q,r_1+r_2$ can be Sobolev critical. To this purpose, we study the geometry of the Pohozaev manifold and the associated minimizition problem. Under some assumption on $a_1,a_2$ and $β$, we obtain the existence of the positive n…
We are concerned with the Lane-Emden problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu=u^{p} &{\text{in}~Ω},\\[0.5mm] u>0 &{\text{in}~Ω},\\[0.5mm] u=0 &{\text{on}~\partial Ω}, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb R^2$ is a smooth bounded domain and $p>1$ is sufficiently large. Improving some known asymptotic estimates on the solutions, we prove the non-degeneracy and local uniqueness of the multi-spikes positive solutions for general domains. Our methods mainly use ODE's theory, various local Pohozaev identities, blow-up analysis and the properties of Green's function.
This paper deals with the following nonlinear perturbed fractional Laplacian equation $$(-Δ)^s u = K(|y'|,y'')u^{\frac{N+2s}{N-2s}\pmε},\,\,u>0,\,\,u\in D^{1,s}(\mathbb{R}^N),$$ where $0<s<1, N\geq 4,$ $(y',y'')\in \mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{R}^{N-2},$ $ε>0$ is a small parameter and $K(y)$ is nonnegative and bounded. By combining a finite reduction argument and local Pohozaev type of identities, we prove that if $N\geq 4,\max\{\frac{N+1-\sqrt{N^{2}-2N+9}}{4},\frac{3-\sqrt{N^{2}-6N+13}}{2}\}<s<1$ and $K(r,y'')$ has a stable critical point $(r_0, y_0'')$ with $r_0>0$ and $K(r_0, y_0'')>0,$ then …
We discuss the existence and non-existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the other variables least energy solutions for equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity of the form: $-Δu=λu^p - u^q$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$, where $ 0< q < p \leq 1$, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$. The approach is based on the Nehari manifold method supplemented by a one-sided constraint given through the functional of the suitable Pohozaev identity. The limit value of the parameter $λ$, where the approach is applicable, corresponds to the existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the …
We derive global estimates in critical scale invariant norms for solutions of elliptic systems with antisymmetric potentials and almost holomorphic Hopf differential in two dimensions. Moreover we obtain new energy identities in such norms for sequences of solutions of these systems. The results apply to harmonic maps into general target manifolds and surfaces with prescribed mean curvature. In particular our results confirm a conjecture of Rivière in the two-dimensional setting.
In this paper, we are concerned with semiclassical states to the following fractional nonlinear elliptic equation, \begin{align*} \eps^{2s}(-Δ)^s u + V(x) u=\mathcal{N}(|u|)u \quad \mbox{in} \,\,\, \R^N, \end{align*} where $0<s <1$, $\eps>0$ is a small parameter, $N>2s$, $V \in C^1(\R^N, \R^+)$ and $\mathcal{N}\in C(\R, \R)$. The nonlinearity has Sobolev subcritical, critical or supercritical growth. The fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^s$ is characterized as $\mathcal{F}((-Δ)^{s}u)(ξ)=|ξ|^{2s} \mathcal{F}(u)(ξ)$ for $ξ\in \R^N$, where $\mathcal{F}$ denotes the Fourier transform. We construct positi…
This paper deals with the following critical elliptic systems of Hamiltonian type, which are variants of the critical Lane-Emden systems and analogous to the prescribed curvature problem: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu_1=K_1(y)u_2^{p},\ y\in \mathbb{R}^N,\\ -Δu_2=K_2(y)u_1^{q}, \ y\in \mathbb{R}^N,\\ u_1,u_2>0, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $N\geq 5, p,q\in(1,\infty)$ with $\frac1{p+1}+\frac1{q+1}=\frac{N-2}N$, $K_1(y)$ and $K_2(y)$ are positive radial potentials. At first, under suitable conditions on $K_1,K_2$ and the certain range of the exponents $p,q$, we construct an unbounded s…
We establish Liouville type theorems for elliptic systems with various classes of non-linearities on $\mathbb{R}^N$. We show among other things, that a system has no semi-stable solution in any dimension, whenever the infimum of the derivatives of the corresponding non-linearities is positive. We give some immediate applications to various standard systems, such as the Gelfand, and certain Hamiltonian systems. The case where the infimum is zero is more interesting and quite challenging. We show that any $C^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$ positive entire semi-stable solution of the following Lane-Emden system…
We study some analytical and geometric properties of a two-dimensional nonlinear sigma model with gravitino which comes from supersymmetric string theory. When the action is critical w.r.t. variations of the various fields including the gravitino, there is a symmetric, traceless and divergence-free energy-momentum tensor, which gives rise to a holomorphic quadratic differential. Using it we obtain a Pohozaev type identity and finally we can establish the energy identities along a weakly convergent sequence of fields with uniformly bounded energies.
We consider the following fractional prescribed curvature problem $$(-Δ)^s u= K(y)u^{2^*_s-1},\ \ u>0,\ \ y\in \mathbb{R}^N,\qquad (0.1)$$ where $s\in(0,\frac{1}{2})$ for $N=3$, $s\in(0,1)$ for $N\geqslant4$ and $2^*_s=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$ is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent, $K(y)$ has a local maximum point in $r\in(r_0-δ,r_0+δ)$. First, for any sufficient large $k$, we construct a $2k$ bubbling solution to (0.1) of some new type, which concentrate on an upper and lower surfaces of an oblate cylinder through the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method. Furthermore, a non-degeneracy result of th…
This paper is concerned with the critical conditions of nonlinear elliptic equations with weights and the corresponding integral equations with Riesz potentials and Bessel potentials. We show that the equations and some energy functionals are invariant under the scaling transformation if and only if the critical conditions hold. In addition, the Pohozaev identity shows that those critical conditions are the necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of the finite energy positive solutions or weak solutions. Finally, we discuss respectively the existence of the negative solutions of the …
For certain nonlinear elliptic PDE problems in two dimensions, the classical isoperimetric inequality produces a sharp inequality that violates a Pohozaev identity except for radial symmetric, decreasing solutions. A generalized version of this technique is used here to prove radial symmetry of curl-free Ginzburg-Landau vortices.
In this paper we are interested in the following critical Hartree equation \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu =\displaystyle{\Big(\int_Ω\frac{u^{2_μ^\ast} (ξ)}{|x-ξ|^μ}dξ\Big)u^{2_μ^\ast-1}}+\varepsilon u ,~~~\text{in}~Ω,\\ u=0,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\text{on}~\partialΩ, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $N\geq4$, $0<μ\leq4$, $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter, $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $2_μ^\ast=\frac{2N-μ}{N-2}$ is the critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. By establishing various versions of local Pohozaev ident…
We study the problem \begin{eqnarray*} (-Δ)^s u &=& u^p - u^q \quad\text{in }\quad \mathbb{R}^N, u &\in& \dot{H}^s(\mathbb{R}^N)\cap L^{q+1}(\mathbb{R}^N), u&>0& \quad\text{in}\quad\mathbb{R}^N, \end{eqnarray*} where $s\in(0,1)$ is a fixed parameter, $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional laplacian in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $q>p\geq \frac{N+2s}{N-2s}$ and $N>2s$. For every $s\in(0,1)$, we establish regularity results of solutions of above equation (whenever solution exists) and we show that every solution is a classical solution. Next, we derive certain decay estimate of solutions and the gradient of solutions a…
We investigate here the nonlinear elliptic Hénon type equation: $$\D^{2} u= |x|^a|u|^{p-1}u \; \,\,\mbox{in}\,\,\,\, \R^{n}_{+}, \quad \quad u =\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_n} = 0 \quad \mbox{in}\,\,\,\, \partial \R^{n}_{+},$$ with $p>1$ and $n\geq 2$. In particular, we prove some Liouville type theorems for stable at infinity solutions. The main methods used are the integral estimates, the Pohozaev-type identity and the monotonicity formula.
In this paper, we investigate the following critical elliptic equation $$ -Δu+V(y)u=u^{\frac{N+2}{N-2}},\,\,u>0,\,\,\text{in}\,\R^{N},\,\,u\in H^{1}(\R^{N}), $$ where $V(y)$ is a bounded non-negative function in $\R^{N}.$ Assuming that $V(y)=V(|\hat{y}|,y^{*}),y=(\hat{y},y^{*})\in \R^{4}\times \R^{N-4}$ and gluing together bubbles with different concentration rates, we obtain new solutions provided that $N\geq 7,$ whose concentrating points are close to the point $(r_{0},y^{*}_{0})$ which is a stable critical point of the function $r^{2}V(r,y^{*})$ satisfying $r_{0}>0$ and $V(r_{0},y^{*}_{0})>…
Even though the KdV and modified KdV equations are nonlinear, we show that suitable linear combinations of known periodic solutions involving Jacobi elliptic functions yield a large class of additional solutions. This procedure works by virtue of some remarkable new identities satisfied by the elliptic functions.
