This article concerns a natural generalization of the classical asymptotic Plateau problem in hyperbolic space. We prove the existence of a smooth complete hypersurface of constant scalar curvature with a prescribed asymptotic boundary at infinity. The desired hypersurface is constructed as the limit of constant scalar curvature graphs (with respect to vertical geodesics) over a fixed compact domain in a horosphere, and the problem is thus reduced to solving a Dirichlet problem for a fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation which is degenerate along the boundary. Previously, the result was known only for a restricted range of curvature values. Now, in this article, by introducing some new techniques, we are able to solve the Dirichlet problem for all possible curvature values. The main ingredient is the establishment of the crucial second order a priori estimates for admissible solutions.
We prove existence of compact spacelike hypersurfaces with prescribed k - curvature in de Sitter space, where the prescription function depends on both space and the tilt function.
We prove the existence of a complete locally Lipschitz continuous hypersurface in weak sense with prescribed Weingarten curvature and asymptotic boundary at infinity in hyperbolic space under certain assumptions.
The existence of a smooth complete strictly locally convex hypersurface with prescribed scalar curvature and asymptotic boundary at infinity in $\mathbb{H}^{3}$ is proved under the assumption that there exists a strictly locally convex subsolution.
These are lecture notes for the mini-course \textit{PDE and hypersurfaces with prescribed mean curvature} held in Federal University of São Carlos at the Workshop on Submanifold Theory and Geometric Analysis, August 05 -- 09, 2019. The aim of these notes is to introduce to the geometers useful tools from the \textit{Theory of partial differential equations} which are used in order to obtain hypersurfaces with prescribed mean curvature. For instance, graphs with prescribed mean curvature can be obtained by solving the Dirichlet problem for a particular quasilinear elliptic partial differential …
We prove that, for a generic set of smooth prescription functions $h$ on a closed ambient manifold, there always exists a nontrivial, smooth, closed hypersurface of prescribed mean curvature $h$. The solution is either an embedded minimal hypersurface with integer multiplicity, or a non-minimal almost embedded hypersurface of multiplicity one. More precisely, we show that our previous min-max theory, developed for constant mean curvature hypersurfaces, can be extended to construct min-max prescribed mean curvature hypersurfaces for certain classes of prescription function, including smooth Mor…
In this paper we find strictly locally convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with prescribed curvature and boundary. The main result is that if the given data admits a strictly locally convex radial graph as a subsolution, we can find a radial graph realizing the prescribed curvature and boundary. As an application we show any smooth domain on the boundary of a compact strictly convex body can be deformed to a smooth hypersurface with the same boundary (inside the convex body) and realizing any prescribed curvature function smaller than the curvature of the body.
Our aim is to study invariant hypersurfaces immersed in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, whose mean curvature is given as a linear function in the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$ depending on its Gauss map. These hypersurfaces are closely related with the theory of manifolds with density, since their weighted mean curvature in the sense of Gromov is constant. In this paper we obtain explicit parametrizations of constant curvature hypersurfaces, and also give a classification of rotationally invariant hypersurfaces.
Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold and E a Riemannian vector bundle on M. We look for hypersurfaces of E with a prescribed vertical Gaussian curvature. In trying to solve this problem fibre-wise, we loose the regularity of the resulting solution. To unsure the smoothness of the solution, we construct it as a radial graph over the unit sphere subbundle of E and prove its existence by solving in this one a nonlinear partial differential equation of Monge-Ampère type.
In this paper, we study the Dirichlet problem for $p$-convex hypersurfaces with prescribed curvature. We prove that there exists a graphic hypersurface satisfying the prescribed curvature equation with homogeneous boundary condition. An interior curvature estimate is also obtained.
We study hypersurfaces with prescribed null expansion in an initial data set. We propose a notion of stability and prove a topology theorem. Eichmair's Perron approach toward the existence of marginally outer trapped surface adapts to the settings of hypersurfaces with prescribed null expansion with only minor modifications.
In this paper, we establish the curvature estimates for $p$-convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ of prescribed curvature with $p\geq \frac{n}{2}$. The existence of a star-shaped hypersurface of prescribed curvature is obtained. We also prove a type of interior $C^2$ estimates for solutions to the Dirichlet problem of the corresponding equation.
We will generalize a Maximum Principle at Infinity in the parabolic case given by De Lima [Ann. Global Anal. Geom. ${\bf 20}$, 325-343 2001] and De Lima and Meeks [Indiana Univ. Math. Journal ${\bf 53}$ 5, 1211-1223 2004], for disjoints hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with bounded mean curvature without restrictions on the Gaussian curvature. We will also extend for hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ a generalization of Hopf's Maximum Principle for hypersurfaces that get close asymptotically.
In [7], Guan, Ren and Wang obtained a $C^2$ a priori estimate for admissible 2-convex hypersurfaces satisfying the Weingarten curvature equation $σ_2(κ(X))=f(X, ν(X)).$ In this note, we give a simpler proof of this result, and extend it to space forms.
We use a phase space analysis to give some classification results for rotational hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ whose mean curvature is given as a prescribed function of its Gauss map. For the case where the prescribed function is an even function in $\mathbb{S}^n$, we show that a Delaunay-type classification holds for this class of hypersurfaces. We also exhibit examples showing that the behavior of rotational hypersurfaces of prescribed (non-constant) mean curvature is much richer than in the constant mean curvature case.
This paper is devoted to $C^2$ a priori estimates for strictly locally convex radial graphs with prescribed Weingarten curvature and boundary in space forms. By constructing two-step continuity process and applying degree theory arguments, existence results in space forms are established for prescribed Gauss curvature equation under the assumption of a strictly locally convex subsolution.
In this paper, we consider prescribed shifted Gauss curvature equations for horo-convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Under some sufficient condition, we obtain an existence result by the standard degree theory based on the a prior estimates for the solutions to the equations. Different from the prescribed Weingarten curvature problem in space forms, we do not impose a sign condition for radial derivative of the functions in the right-hand side of the equations to prove the existence due to the horo-covexity of hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$.
Given a smooth compact hypersurface $M$ with boundary $Σ=\partial M$, we prove the existence of a sequence $M_j$ of hypersurfaces with the same boundary as $M$, such that each Steklov eigenvalue $σ_k(M_j)$ tends to zero as $j$ tends to infinity. The hypersurfaces $M_j$ are obtained from $M$ by a local perturbation near a point of its boundary. Their volumes and diameters are arbitrarily close to those of $M$, while the principal curvatures of the boundary remain unchanged.
In this paper we consider the prescribed mean curvature flow of a non-compact space-like Cauchy hypersurface of bounded geometry in a generalized Robertson-Walker space-time. We prove that the flow preserves the space-likeness condition and exists for infinite time. We also prove convergence in the setting of manifolds with boundary. Our discussion generalizes previous work by Ecker, Huisken, Gerhardt and others with respect to a crucial aspects: we consider any non-compact Cauchy hypersurface under the assumption of bounded geometry. Moreover, we specialize the aforementioned works by conside…
In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of convex, entire, spacelike hypersurfaces of constant $σ_k$ curvature with prescribed set of lightlike directions $\mathcal{F}\subset\mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ and perturbation $q$ on $\mathcal{F}$. We prove that given a closed set $\mathcal{F}$ in the ideal boundary at infinity of hyperbolic space and a perturbation $q$ that satisfies some mild conditions, there exists a complete entire spacelike constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurface $\mathcal{M}_u$ with prescribed set of lightlike directions $\mathcal{F}$ satisfying when $\frac{x}{|x|}\in\ma…
Hypersurfaces embedded in conformal manifolds appear frequently as boundary data in boundary-value problems in cosmology and string theory. Viewed as the non-null conformal infinity of a spacetime, we consider hypersurfaces embedded in a Riemannian (or Lorentzian) conformal manifold. We construct a finite and minimal family of hypersurface tensors -- the curvatures intrinsic to the hypersurface and the so-called ``conformal fundamental forms'' -- that can be used to construct natural conformal invariants of the hypersurface embedding up to a fixed order in hypersurface-orthogonal derivatives o…
We develop a global theory for complete hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ whose mean curvature is given as a prescribed function of its Gauss map. This theory extends the usual one of constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, and also that of self-translating solitons of the mean curvature flow. For the particular case $n=2$, we will obtain results regarding a priori height and curvature estimates, non-existence of complete stable surfaces, and classification of properly embedded surfaces with at most one end.
Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary and let E be a Riemannian vector bundle over M. If $σ$ denotes the sphere subbundle of E, we look for embeddings of $σ$ into E admitting a prescribed mean curvature.
