Using gnomonic projection and Poincaré model, we first define the spherical projection body and hyperbolic projection body in spherical space $\mathbb{S}^n$ and hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^n$, then define the spherical Steiner symmetrization and hyperbolic Steiner symmetrization, finally prove the spherical projection inequality and hyperbolic projection inequality.
Employing the inverse function theorem on Banach spaces, we prove that in a $C^{2}(S^{n-1})$-neighborhood of the unit ball, the only solutions of $Π^2K=cK$ are origin-centered ellipsoids. Here $K$ is an $n$-dimensional convex body, $ΠK$ is the projection body of $K$ and $Π^2K=Π(ΠK).$
The Petty projection inequality for sets of finite perimeter is proved. Our approach is based on Steiner symmetrization. Neither the affine Sobolev inequality nor the functional Minkowski problem is used in our proof. Moreover, for sets of finite perimeter, we prove the Petty projection inequality with respect to Steiner symmetrization.
We consider the problem of comparing the volumes of two star bodies in an even-dimensional euclidean space $\mathbb R^{2n} = \mathbb C^n$ by comparing their cross sectional areas along complex lines (special 2-dimensional real planes) through the origin. Under mild symmetry conditions on one of the bodies a Busemann-Petty type theorem holds. Quaternionic and Octonionic analogs also hold. The argument relies on integration in polar coordinates coupled with Jensen's inequality. Along the way we provide a criterion that detects which centered bodies are {\it circular}. i.e., stabilized by multipl…
The spherical centroid body of a centrally-symmetric convex body in the Euclidean unit sphere is introduced. Two alternative definitions - one geometric, the other probabilistic in nature - are given and shown to lead to the same objects. The geometric approach is then used to establish a number of basic properties of spherical centroid bodies, while the probabilistic approach inspires the proof of a spherical analogue of the classical polar Busemann-Petty centroid inequality.
In this note prove the following Berwald-type inequality, showing that for any integrable log-concave function $f:\mathbb R^n\rightarrow[0,\infty)$ and any concave function $h:L\rightarrow\mathbb [0,\infty)$, where $L$ is the epigraph of $-\log \frac{f}{\Vert f\Vert_\infty}$, then $$p\to \left(\frac{1}{Γ(1+p)\int_L e^{-t}dtdx}\int_L h^p(x,t)e^{-t}dtdx\right)^\frac{1}{p} $$ is decreasing in $p\in(-1,\infty)$, extending the range of $p$ where the monotonicity is known to hold true. As an application of this extension, we will provide a new proof of a functional form of Zhang's reverse Petty proj…
Busemann's intersection inequality asserts that the only maximizers of the integral $\int_{S^{n-1}} |K\capξ^\perp|^n dξ$ among all convex bodies of a fixed volume in $\mathbb R^n$ are centered ellipsoids. We study this question in the hyperbolic and spherical spaces, as well as general measure spaces.
The affine quermassintegrals associated to a convex body in $\mathbb{R}^n$ are affine-invariant analogues of the classical intrinsic volumes from the Brunn-Minkowski theory, and thus constitute a central pillar of affine convex geometry. They were introduced in the 1980's by E. Lutwak, who conjectured that among all convex bodies of a given volume, the $k$-th affine quermassintegral is minimized precisely on the family of ellipsoids. The known cases $k=1$ and $k=n-1$ correspond to the classical Blaschke-Santaló and Petty projection inequalities, respectively. In this work we confirm Lutwak's c…
A strong triangle inequality in hyperbolic geometry
We give a Sobolev inequality characterisation for the vanishing of a fundamental class in the controlled coarse homology of Nowak and Spakula for quasiconvex uniform spaces that support a local weak $(1,1)$-Poincaré inequality. As applications, we consider visual Gromov hyperbolic spaces and Carnot groups.
We prove an inequality concerning isometries of a Gromov hyperbolic metric space, which does not require the space to be proper or geodesic. It involves the joint stable length, a hyperbolic version of the joint spectral radius, and shows that sets of isometries behave like sets of $2 \times 2$ real matrices. Among the consequences of the inequality, we obtain the continuity of the joint stable length and an analogue of Berger-Wang theorem.
We generalize the recent results of Björn-Björn-Shanmugalingam \cite{BBS20} concerning how measures transform under the uniformization procedure of Bonk-Heinonen-Koskela for Gromov hyperbolic spaces \cite{BHK} by showing that these results also hold in the setting of uniformizing Gromov hyperbolic spaces by Busemann functions that we introduced in \cite{Bu20}. In particular uniformly local doubling and uniformly local Poincaré inequalities for the starting measure transform into global doubling and global Poincaré inequalities for the uniformized measure. We then show in the setting of uniform…
In this paper we study the relationship of hyperbolicity and (Cheeger) isoperimetric inequality in the context of Riemannian manifolds and graphs. We characterize the hyperbolic manifolds and graphs (with bounded local geometry) verifying this isoperimetric inequality, in terms of their Gromov boundary. Furthermore, we characterize the trees with isoperimetric inequality (without any hypothesis). As an application of our results, we obtain the solvability of the Dirichlet problem at infinity for these Riemannian manifolds and graphs, and that the Martin boundary is homeomorphic to the Gromov b…
Certain triangle inequalities involving the circumradius, inradius, and side lengths of a triangle are generalized to spherical and hyperbolic geometry. Examples include strengthenings of Euler's inequality, $R\geq2r$. An extension of Euler's inequality to a simplex in $n$-dimensional space is also generalized to spherical geometry.
In this paper, we prove a class of weighted isoperimetric inequalities for bounded domains in hyperbolic space by using the isoperimetric inequality with log-convex density in Euclidean space. As a consequence, we remove the horo-convex assumption of domains in a weighted isoperimetric inequality proved by Scheuer-Xia. Furthermore, we prove weighted isoperimetric inequalities for star-shaped domains in warped product manifolds. Particularly, we obtain a weighted isoperimetric inequality for star-shaped hypersurfaces lying outside a certain radial coordinate slice in the anti-de Sitter-Schwarzs…
The uniformization and hyperbolization transformations formulated by Bonk, Heinonen and Koskela in \emph{"Uniformizing Gromov Hyperbolic Spaces"}, Astérisque {\bf 270} (2001), dealt with geometric properties of metric spaces. In this paper we consider metric measure spaces and construct a parallel transformation of measures under the uniformization and hyperbolization procedures. We show that if a locally compact roughly starlike Gromov hyperbolic space is equipped with a measure that is uniformly locally doubling and supports a uniformly local $p$-Poincaré inequality, then the transformed mea…
We show that closed arithmetic hyperbolic n-dimensional orbifolds with larger and larger volumes give rise to triangulations of the underlying spaces whose 1-skeletons are harder and harder to embed nicely in Euclidean space. To show this we generalize an inequality of Gromov and Guth to hyperbolic n-orbifolds and find nearly optimal geodesic triangulations of arithmetic hyperbolic n-orbifolds.
