In this paper we study the necessary and sufficient conditions on domain for Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev embedding of the space $W^{1,Φ(\cdot,\cdot)}(Ω)$ where $Φ(x,t):=t^{p(x)}{(\log(e+t))}^{q(x)}.$
We prove that the space of pointwise multipliers between two distinct Musielak--Orlicz spaces is another Musielak-Orlicz space and the function defining it is given by an appropriately generalized Legendre transform. In particular, we obtain characterization of pointwise multipliers between Nakano spaces. We also discuss factorization problem for Musielak-Orlicz spaces and exhibit some differences between Orlicz and Musielak-Orlicz cases.
In this paper, we present a characterization of support functionals and smooth points in $L_{0}^Φ$, the Musielak-Orlicz space equipped with the Orlicz norm. As a result, criterion for the smoothness of $L_{0}^Φ$ is also obtained. Some expressions involving the norms of functionals in $(L_{0}^Φ)^{*}$, the topological dual of $L_{0}^Φ$, are proved for arbitrary Musielak-Orlicz functions.
In this note we prove that $\frac{1}{n!} \sum_π (\sum_{i=1}^n |x_i a_{i,π(i)} |^2)^{1/2}$ is equivalent to a Musielak-Orlicz norm $\norm{x}_{\sum M_i}$. We also obtain the inverse result, i.e., given the Orlicz functions, we provide a formula for the choice of the matrix that generates the corresponding Musielak-Orlicz norm. As a consequence, we obtain the embedding of 2-concave Musielak-Orlicz spaces into L_1.
In this paper, the concept of Musielak N-functions and Musielak-Orlicz spaces generated by them well be introduced. Facts and results of the measure theory will be applied to consider properties, calculus and basic approximation of Musielak N-functions and their Musielak-Orlicz spaces. Finally, the relationship between Musielak N-functions and Musielak-Orlicz functions and thier Musielak-Orlicz spaces will be considered using facts and results of the measure theory too
In this paper we show that, using combinatorial inequalities and Matrix-Averages, we can generate Musielak-Orlicz spaces, i.e., we prove that $1/π\sum_π \max\limits_{1 \leq i \leq n} \abs{x_i y_{iπ(i)}} \sim \norm{x}_{ΣM_i}$, where the Orlicz functions $M_1,...,M_n$ depend on the matrix $(y_{ij})_{i,j=1}^n$. We also provide an approximation result for Musielak-Orlicz norms which already in the case of Orlicz spaces turned out to be very useful.
We study some new strongly almost lacunary statistical $A$-convergent sequence space of order $α$ defined by a Musielak-Orlicz function. We also give some inclusion relations between the newly introduced class of sequences with the spaces of strongly almost lacunary $A$-convergent sequence of order $α$. Moreover we have examined some results on Musielak-Orlicz function with respect to these spaces.
We study the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in the Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space $W^{1,φ}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Under some natural assumptions on $φ$ we show that the maximal function is bounded and continuous in $W^{1,φ}(\mathbb{R}^n)$.
We give sufficient conditions for the continuity in norm of the translation operator in the Musielak-Orlicz LM spaces. An application to the convergence in norm of approximate identities is given, whereby we prove density results of the smooth functions in LM, in both modular and norm topologies. These density results are then applied to obtain basic topological properties.
Under appropriate assumptions on the $N(Ω)$-fucntion, Morrey estimate is presented in the Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space. The assumptions include a new increasing condition on the $x$-derivative of the Young complementary function of the $N(Ω)$-fucntion. The conclusion applies to several important nonlinear examples frequently appeared in mathematical literature.
We show that among all Musielak-Orlicz function spaces on a $σ$-finite non-atomic complete measure space equipped with either the Luxemburg norm or the Orlicz norm the only spaces with the Daugavet property are $L_1$, $L_{\infty}$, $L_1\oplus_1 L_{\infty}$ and $L_1\oplus_{\infty} L_{\infty}$. We obtain in particular complete characterizations of the Daugavet property in the weighted interpolation spaces, the variable exponent Lebesgue spaces (Nakano spaces) and the Orlicz spaces.
Let $\boldΦ=(ϕ_n)$ be a Musielak-Orlicz function, $X$ be a real Banach space and $A$ be any infinite matrix. In this paper, a generalized vector-valued Musielak-Orlicz sequence space $l_{\bold Φ}^{A}(X)$ is introduced. It is shown that the space is complete normed linear space under certain conditions on the matrix $A$. It is also shown that $l_{\boldΦ}^{A}(X)$ is a $σ$- Dedikind complete whenever $X$ is so. We have discussed some geometric properties, namely, uniformly monotone, uniform Opial property for this space. Using the sequence of $s$-number (in the sense of Pietsch), the operators of…
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the space of smooth functions with compact supports $C^\infty_C(Ω)$ to be dense in Musielak-Orlicz spaces $L^Φ(Ω)$ where $Ω$ is an open subset of $\mathbb{R}^d$. In particular we prove that if $Φ$ satisfies condition $Δ_2$, the closure of $C^\infty_C(Ω)\cap L^Φ(Ω)$ is equal to $L^Φ(Ω)$ if and only if the measure of singular points of $Φ$ is equal to zero. This extends the earlier density theorems proved under the assumption of local integrability of $Φ$, which implies that the measure of the singular points of $Φ$ is zero. As a corollary we ob…
By a stronger compact boundary embedding theorem in Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space developed in the paper, variational method is employed to deal with the nonlinear elliptic equation with the nonlinear Neumann boundary condition in the framework of Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space.

We prove the density of smooth functions in the modular topology in the Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces essentially extending the results of Gossez \cite{GJP2} obtained in the Orlicz-Sobolev setting. We impose new systematic regularity assumption on $M$ which allows to study the problem of density unifying and improving the known results in the Orlicz-Sobolev spaces, as well as the variable exponent Sobolev spaces. We confirm the precision of the method by showing the lack of the Lavrentiev phenomenon in the double-phase case. Indeed, we get the modular approximation of $W^{1,p}_0(Ω)$ functions…
In this paper we show that Musielak--Orlicz spaces are UMD spaces under the so-called $Δ_2$ condition on the generalized Young function and its complemented function. We also prove that if the measure space is divisible, then a Musielak--Orlicz space has the UMD property if and only if it is reflexive. As a consequence we show that reflexive variable Lebesgue spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}$ are UMD spaces.
In the present paper we initiate the study of the Musielak-Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for convex bodies. In particular, we develop the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem aiming to characterize the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image measure of convex bodies. For a convex body $K$, its Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image measure, denoted by $\widetilde{C}_Θ(K, \cdot)$, involves a triple $Θ=(G, Ψ, λ)$ where $G$ and $Ψ$ are two Musielak-Orlicz functions defined on $S^{n-1}\times (0, \infty)$ and $λ$ is a nonzero finite Lebesgue measure on the unit sphere $S^{n-1}$. Such a measure can be produced by a variati…
Let $(Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathbb{P})$ be a probability space and $φ:\ Ω\times[0,\infty)\to [0,\infty)$ be a Musielak--Orlicz function. In this article, the authors establish the atomic characterizations of weak martingale Musielak--Orlicz Hardy spaces $WH_φ^s(Ω)$, $WH_φ^M(Ω)$, $WH_φ^S(Ω)$, $WP_φ(Ω)$ and $WQ_φ(Ω)$. Using these atomic characterizations, the authors then obtain the boundedness of sublinear operators from weak martingale Musielak--Orlicz Hardy spaces to weak Musielak--Orlicz spaces, and some martingale inequalities which further clarify the relationships among $WH_φ^s(Ω)$, $WH_φ^M(Ω)$,…
Lusin Area Function and Molecular Characterizations of Musielak-Orlicz Hardy Spaces and Their ApplicationsLet $φ: \mathbb R^n\times [0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ be a growth function such that $φ(x,\cdot)$ is nondecreasing, $φ(x,0)=0$, $φ(x,t)>0$ when $t>0$, $\lim_{t\to\infty}φ(x,t)=\infty$, and $φ(\cdot,t)$ is a Muckenhoupt $A_\infty(\mathbb{R}^n)$ weight uniformly in $t$. In this paper, the authors establish the Lusin area function and the molecular characterizations of the Musielak-Orlicz Hardy space $H_φ(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by Luong Dang Ky via the grand maximal function. As an applicatio…
Let $φ: {\mathbb R^n}\times [0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ be such that $φ(x,\cdot)$ is an Orlicz function and $φ(\cdot,t)$ is a Muckenhoupt $A_\infty({\mathbb R^n})$ weight. The Musielak-Orlicz Hardy space $H^φ(\mathbb R^n)$ is defined to be the space of all $f\in{\mathcal S}'({\mathbb R^n})$ such that the grand maximal function $f^*$ belongs to the Musielak-Orlicz space $L^φ(\mathbb R^n)$. Luong Dang Ky established its atomic characterization. In this paper, the authors establish some new real-variable characterizations of $H^φ(\mathbb R^n)$ in terms of the vertical or the non-tangential maximal f…
In this paper we investigate Poincaré-type integral inequalities in the functional Musielak structure. We extend the ones already well known in Sobolev, Orlicz and variable exponent Sobolev spaces. We introduce conditions on the Musielak functions under which they hold. The identification with null trace functions space is given.
Let $φ: \mathbb R^n\times [0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ be such that $φ(x,\cdot)$ is an Orlicz function and $φ(\cdot,t)$ is a Muckenhoupt $A_\infty(\mathbb R^n)$ weight uniformly in $t$. In this article, the authors introduce the Musielak-Orlicz Campanato space ${\mathcal L}_{φ,q,s}({\mathbb R}^n)$ and, as an application, prove that some of them is the dual space of the Musielak-Orlicz Hardy space $H^φ(\mathbb R^n)$, which in the case when $q=1$ and $s=0$ was obtained by L. D. Ky [arXiv: 1105.0486]. The authors also establish a John-Nirenberg inequality for functions in ${\mathcal L}_{φ,1,s}({\math…
Given a normalized Orlicz function $M$ we provide an easy formula for a distribution such that, if $X$ is a random variable distributed accordingly and $X_1,...,X_n$ are independent copies of $X$, then the expected value of the p-norm of the vector $(x_iX_i)_{i=1}^n$ is of the order $\| x \|_M$ (up to constants dependent on p only). In case $p=2$ we need the function $t\mapsto tM'(t) - M(t)$ to be 2-concave and as an application immediately obtain an embedding of the corresponding Orlicz spaces into $L_1[0,1]$. We also provide a general result replacing the $\ell_p$-norm by an arbitrary $N$-no…
In this article, the authors establish a new characterization of the Musielak--Orlicz--Sobolev space on $\mathbb{R}^n$, which includes the classical Orlicz--Sobolev space, the weighted Sobolev space and the variable exponent Sobolev space as special cases, in terms of sharp ball averaging functions. Even in a special case, namely, the variable exponent Sobolev space, the obtained result in this article improves the corresponding result obtained by P. Hästö and A. M. Ribeiro [Commun. Contemp. Math. 19 (2017), 1650022, 13 pp] via weakening the assumption $f\in L^1(\mathbb R^n)$ into $f\in L_{\ma…
We introduce a new class of Hardy spaces $H^{φ(\cdot,\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$, called Hardy spaces of Musielak-Orlicz type, which generalize the Hardy-Orlicz spaces of Janson and the weighted Hardy spaces of García-Cuerva, Strömberg, and Torchinsky. Here, $φ: \mathbb R^n\times [0,\infty)\to [0,\infty)$ is a function such that $φ(x,\cdot)$ is an Orlicz function and $φ(\cdot,t)$ is a Muckenhoupt $A_\infty$ weight. A function $f$ belongs to $H^{φ(\cdot,\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ if and only if its maximal function $f^*$ is so that $x\mapsto φ(x,|f^*(x)|)$ is integrable. Such a space arises naturally for …

In this article, the authors introduce a new Musielak-Orlicz BMO-type space $\mathrm{BMO}^φ_A(\mathcal{X})$ associated with the generalized approximation to the identity, give out its basic properties and establish its two equivalent characterizations, respectively, in terms of the spaces $\mathrm{BMO}^φ_{A,\,\mathrm{max}}(\ma…

In this article, the authors establish the Riesz transform characterizations of the Musielak-Orlicz-Hardy spaces $H_φ(\mathbb{R}^n)$ which are generalizations of weighted Hardy spaces and Orlicz-Hardy spaces. Precisely, the…

Let $(Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathbb{P})$ be a probability space and $φ:\ Ω\times[0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ be a Musielak-Orlicz function. In this article, the authors prove that the Doob maximal operator is bounded on the Musielak-Orlicz space $L^φ(Ω)$. Using this and extrapolation method, the authors then establish a Fefferman-Stein vector-valued Doob maximal inequality on $L^φ(Ω)$. As applications, the authors obtain the dual version of the Doob maximal inequality and the Stein inequality for $L^φ(Ω)$, which are new even in weighted Orlicz spaces. The authors then establish the atomic characterization…
A new class of convex functions called functions, Young functions, strong Young functions and Orlicz functions are introduced by relaxing the definitions of functions, Young functions, strong Young functions and Orlicz functions. Then, new classes of Orlicz spaces and Orlicz Sobolev space will be defined.
We deal with Orlicz-Sobolev embeddings in open subsets of $\mathbb{R}^n$. A necessary and sufficient condition is established for the existence of an optimal, i.e. largest possible, Orlicz-Sobolev space continuously embedded into a given Orlicz space. Moreover, the optimal Orlicz-Sobolev space is exhibited whenever it exists. Parallel questions are addressed for Orlicz-Sobolev embeddings into Orlicz spaces with respect to a Frostman measure, and, in particular, for trace embeddings on the boundary.
We prove capacitary strong type inequalities for functions belonging to Orlicz-Sobolev spaces. As an application we consider capacitary averages and their limits.
In this article we develop few of the analogous theoretical results of Clifford analysis over Orlicz-Sobolev spaces and study mapping properties of the Dirac operator and the Teodorescu transform over these function spaces. We also get analogous decomposition results of Clifford valued Orlicz spaces and the generalized Orlicz-Sobolev spaces.
We provide a necessary condition on the regularity of domains for the optimal embeddings of first order (and higher order) Orlicz-Sobolev spaces into Orlicz spaces in the sense of \cite{Cia96} (and \cite{Cia06}).
The aim in the present paper is to study removable sets for weighted Orlicz-Sobolev spaces. We generalize the definition of porous sets and show that the porous sets lying in a hyperplane are removable.
We study removable sets for the Orlicz-Sobolev space $W^{1,Ψ},$ for functions of the form $Ψ(t)=t^p\log^λ(e+t).$ We show that $(p,λ)$-porous sets lying in a hyperplane are removable and that this result is essentially sharp.
The optimal Orlicz target space is exhibited for embeddings of fractional-order Orlicz-Sobolev spaces in $\mathbb R^n$. An improved embedding with an Orlicz-Lorentz target space, which is optimal in the broader class of all rearrangement-invariant spaces, is also established. Both spaces of order $s\in (0,1)$, and higher-order spaces are considered. Related Hardy type inequalities are proposed as well. An extension theorem is proved, that enables us to derive embeddings for spaces defined in Lipschitz domains. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the compactness of fractional Orlicz-Sobolev…
In this paper we present a method for determining whether there exists a largest Orlicz space $L^A(Ω)$ satisfying the Sobolev embedding $W^mL^A(Ω) \to Y(Ω)$ where $Y(Ω)$ stands for an arbitrary so-called Marcinkiewicz endpoint space. The tool developed in this work enables us to investigate the optimality of Orlicz domain spaces in Sobolev embeddings and also in Sobolev trace embeddings on domains $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with various regularity.
In this short article we show a particular version of the Hedberg inequality which can be used to derive, in a very simple manner, functional inequalities involving Sobolev and Besov spaces in the general setting of Lebesgue spaces of variable exponents and in the framework of Orlicz spaces.
