We obtain new sampling discretization results in Orlicz norms on finite dimensional spaces. As applications, we study sampling recovery problems, where the error of the recovery process is calculated with respect to different Orlicz norms. In particular, we are interested in the recovery by linear methods in the norms close to $L^2$.
In the article we generalize the Marcinkiewicz sampling theorem in the context of Orlicz spaces. We establish conditions under which sampling theorem holds in terms of restricted submultiplicativity and supermultiplicativity of an $N$-function $φ$, boundedness of the Hilbert transform and Matuszewska-Orlicz indices. In addition we give a new criterion for boundedness of Hilbert transform on Orlicz space.
We prove a sampling discretization theorem for the square norm of functions from a finite dimensional subspace satisfying Nikol'skii's inequality with an upper bound on the number of sampling points of the order of the dimension of the subspace
In this paper, we establish quantitative estimates for nonlinear sampling Kantorovich operators in terms of the modulus of continuity in the setting of Orlicz spaces. This general frame allows us to directly deduce some quantitative estimates of approximation in $L^{p}$-spaces, $1\leq p<\infty $, and in other well-known instances of Orlicz spaces, such as the Zygmung and the exponential spaces. Further, the qualitative order of approximation has been obtained assuming $f$ in suitable Lipschitz classes. The above estimates achieved in the general setting of Orlicz spaces, have been also improve…
The paper is devoted to discretization of integral norms of functions from a given finite dimensional subspace. We use recent general results on sampling discretization to derive a new Marcinkiewicz type discretization theorem for the multivariate trigonometric polynomials with frequencies from the hyperbolic crosses. It is shown that recently developed techniques allow us to improve the known results in this direction.
Discretization of the uniform norm of functions from a given finite dimensional subspace of continuous functions is studied. We pay special attention to the case of trigonometric polynomials with frequencies from an arbitrary finite set with fixed cardinality. We give two different proofs of the fact that for any $N$-dimensional subspace of the space of continuous functions it is sufficient to use $e^{CN}$ sample points for an accurate upper bound for the uniform norm. Previous known results show that one cannot improve on the exponential growth of the number of sampling points for a good disc…
The paper addresses the problem of sampling discretization of integral norms of elements of finite-dimensional subspaces satisfying some conditions. We prove sampling discretization results under two standard kinds of assumptions -- conditions on the entropy numbers and conditions in terms of the Nikol'skii-type inequalities. We prove some upper bounds on the number of sample points sufficient for good discretization and show that these upper bounds are sharp in a certain sense. Then we apply our general conditional results to subspaces with special structures, namely, subspaces with the tenso…
In this paper, the problem of the order of approximation for the multivariate sampling Kantorovich operators is studied. The cases of the uniform approximation for uniformly continuous and bounded functions/signals belonging to Lipschitz classes and the case of the modular approximation for functions in Orlicz spaces are considered. In the latter context, Lipschitz classes of Zygmund-type which take into account of the modular functional involved are introduced. Applications to Lp(R^n), interpolation and exponential spaces can be deduced from the general theory formulated in the setting of Orl…
Let $X_N$ be an $N$-dimensional subspace of $L_2$ functions on a probability space $(Ω, μ)$ spanned by a uniformly bounded Riesz basis $Φ_N$. Given an integer $1\leq v\leq N$ and an exponent $1\leq q\leq 2$, we obtain universal discretization for integral norms $L_q(Ω,μ)$ of functions from the collection of all subspaces of $X_N$ spanned by $v$ elements of $Φ_N$ with the number $m$ of required points satisfying $m\ll v(\log N)^2(\log v)^2$. This last bound on $m$ is much better than previously known bounds which are quadratic in $v$. Our proof uses a conditional theorem on universal sampling d…
This paper is devoted to the question of constructing a higher order Faber spline basis for the sampling discretization of functions with higher regularity than Lipschitz. The basis constructed in this paper has similar properties as the piecewise linear classical Faber-Schauder basis except for the compactness of the support. Although the new basis functions are supported on the real line they are very well localized (exponentially decaying) and the main parts are concentrated on a segment. This construction gives a complete answer to Problem 3.13 in Triebel's monograph (see References [47]) …
This survey addresses sampling discretization and its connections with other areas of mathematics. The survey concentrates on sampling discretization of norms of elements of finite-dimensional subspaces. We present here known results on sampling discretization of both integral norms and the uniform norm beginning with classical results and ending with very recent achievements. We also show how sampling discretization connects to spectral properties and operator norms of submatrices, embedding of finite-dimensional subspaces, moments of marginals of high-dimensional distributions, and learning …
For the multivariate trigonometric polynomials we study convolution with the corresponding the de la Vallee Poussin kernel from the point of view of discretization. In other words, we replace the normalized Lebesgue measure by a discrete measure in such a way, which preserves the convolution properties and provides sampling discretization of integral norms. We prove that in the two-variate case the Fibonacci point sets provide an ideal (in the sense of order) solution. We also show that the Korobov point sets provide a suboptimal (up to logarithmic factors) solution for an arbitrary number of …
We introduce and study a family of integral operators in the Kantorovich sense for functions acting on locally compact topological groups. We obtain convergence results for the above operators with respect to the pointwise and uniform convergence and in the setting of Orlicz spaces with respect to the modular convergence. Moreover, we show how our theory applies to several classes of integral and discrete operators, as the sampling, convolution and Mellin type operators in the Kantorovich sense, thus obtaining a simultaneous approach for discrete and integral operators. Further, we derive our …
The paper studies the sampling discretization problem for integral norms on subspaces of $L^p(μ)$. Several close to optimal results are obtained on subspaces for which certain Nikolskii-type inequality is valid. The problem of norms discretization is connected with the probabilistic question about the approximation with high probability of marginals of a high dimensional random vector by sampling. As a byproduct of our approach we refine the result of O. Gu$\acute{e}$don and M. Rudelson concerning the approximation of marginals. In particular, the obtained improvement recovers a theorem of J. …
A continuous frame is a family of vectors in a Hilbert space which allows reproductions of arbitrary elements by continuous superpositions. Associated to a given continuous frame we construct certain Banach spaces. Many classical function spaces can be identified as such spaces. We provide a general method to derive Banach frames and atomic decompositions for these Banach spaces by sampling the continuous frame. This is done by generalizing the coorbit space theory developed by Feichtinger and Groechenig. As an important tool the concept of localization of frames is extended to continuous fram…
