英文摘要:
Let $(X_{k})_{k\geq 1}$ and $(Y_k)_{k\geq 1}$ be the sequence of $X$ and $Y$-coordinates of the positive integer solutions $(x, y)$ of the equation $x^2 - dy^2 = t$. In this paper we completely describe those recurrence sequences such that sums of two terms recurrence sequences in the solution sets of generalized Pell equations are infinitely many. Further, we give an upper bound for the number of such terms when there are only finitely many of them. This work is motivated by the recent paper Hajdu and Sebestyén (Int. J. Number Theory 18 (2022), 1605-1612).
We study the three term recurrence modulo m. In particular, we prove that Pell numbers modulo m is residue complete if and only m is 2, a power of 3, or a power of 5. Pell-Lucas numbers modulo m is residue complete if and only if m is a power of 3.
In this study, we find all Pell and Pell-Lucas numbers which are sums of three base 10 repdigits. The proof of our main theorem uses lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms of algebraic numbers and a version of the Baker-Davenport reduction method.
We solve the two Diophantine equations $P_k=J_n+J_m$ and $Q_k=J_n+J_m$ where $\left\lbrace P_{k}\right\rbrace_{k\geq0}$, $\left\lbrace Q_{k}\right\rbrace_{k\geq0}$ and $\left\lbrace J_{k}\right\rbrace_{k\geq0}$ are the sequences of Pell numbers, Pell-Lucas numbers and Jacobsthal numbers, respectively. The main tool is the theory of linear forms in logarithms.
We examine the $q$-Pell sequences and their applications to weighted partition theorems and values of $L$-functions. We also put them into perspective with sums of tails.
A new family of generalized Pell numbers was recently introduced and studied by Bród \cite{Dorota}. These number possess, as Fibonacci numbers, a Binet formula. Using this, partial sums of arbitrary powers of generalized Pell numbers can be summed explicitly. For this, as a first step, a power $P_n^l$ is expressed as a linear combination of $P_{mn}$. The summation of such expressions is then manageable using generating functions. Since the new family contains a parameter $R=2^r$, the relevant manipulations are quite involved, and computer algebra produced huge expressions that where not trivia…
In this paper, we find all the solutions of the Diophantine equation $P_\ell + P_m +P_n=2^a$, in nonnegative integer variables $(n,m,\ell, a)$ where $P_k$ is the $k$-th term of the Pell sequence $\{P_n\}_{n\ge 0}$ given by $P_0=0$, $P_1=1$ and $P_{n+1}=2P_{n}+ P_{n-1}$ for all $n\geq 1$.
Let $ \{P_{n}\}_{n\geq 0} $ be the sequence of Padovan numbers defined by $ P_0=0 $, $ P_1 = P_2=1$ and $ P_{n+3}= P_{n+1} +P_n$ for all $ n\geq 0 $. In this paper, we find all positive square-free integers $ d $ such that the Pell equations $ x^2-dy^2 = \pm 1 $, $ X^2-dY^2=\pm 4 $ have at least two positive integer solutions $ (x,y) $ and $(x^{\prime}, y^{\prime})$, $ (X,Y) $ and $(X^{\prime}, Y^{\prime})$, respectively, such that each of $ x, ~x^{\prime}, ~X, ~X^{\prime} $ is a sum of two Padovan numbers.
The main purpose of this Note is to provide a non-trivial bound on certain Kloosterman sums as considered in the recent paper of E. Fouvry [F], leading to a small improvement of his result on the Pell equation.
For any integer $k \geq 2$, let $\{Q_{n}^{(k)} \}_{n \geq -(k-2)}$ denote the $k$-generalized Pell-Lucas sequence which starts with $0, \dots ,2,2$($k$ terms) where each next term is the sum of the $k$ preceding terms. In this paper, we find all the $k$-generalized Pell-Lucas numbers that are concatenations of two repdigits.
In this paper, we find all the $k$-generalized Pell-Lucas numbers that are the product of two repdigits. This generalizes a result of Erduvan and Keskin \cite{Erduvan1} regarding repdigits of Pell-Lucas numbers.
Square roots $s$ of sums of $M$ consecutive integer squares starting from $a^{2}\geq1$ are integers if $M\equiv0,9,24$ or $33(mod\,72)$; or $M\equiv1,2$ or $16(mod\,24)$; or $M\equiv11(mod\,12)$ and cannot be integers if $M\equiv3,5,6,7,8$ or $10(mod\,12)$. Finding all solutions with $s$ integer requires to solve a Diophantine quadratic equation in variables $a$ and $s$ with $M$ as a parameter. If $M$ is not a square integer, the Diophantine quadratic equation in variables $a$ and $s$ is transformed into a generalized Pell equation whose form depends on the $M(mod\,4)$ congruent value, and who…
The cardinality of the set of $D\leqslant x$ for which the fundamental solution of the Pell equation $t^2-Du^2=1$ is less than $D^{\frac{1}{2}+α}$ with $α\in[\frac{1}{2},1]$ is studied and certain lower bounds are obtained, improving previous results of Fouvry by introducing the $q$-analogue of van der Corput method to algebraic exponential sums with smooth moduli.
Using Pascal triangle, we give a simple generalization to the so-called STRAND Puzzle solved by Srinivasa Ramanujan. Thus we are interested in computing the median, first and third quartiles of some integer valued distributions, arising naturally when extending partial sums of the arithmetic progression (triangular numbers) to tetrahedral numbers and beyond. We show this reduces to equations of Pell-Fermat type of higher order, which admit very few integer solutions, but for which, following Ramanujan's original idea, we can always find integer sequences of best approximation, in the Diophanti…
We present a certain generalization of a recent result of M. I. Cirnu on linear recurrence relations with coefficient in progressions [2]. We provide some interesting examples related to some well-known integer sequences, such as Fibonacci sequence, Pell sequence, Jacobsthal sequence, and the Balancing sequence of numbers. The paper also provides several approaches in solving the linear recurrence relation under consideration. We end the paper by giving out an open problem.
A second order polynomial sequence is of Fibonacci type (Lucas type) if its Binet formula is similar in structure to the Binet formula for the Fibonacci (Lucas) numbers. In this paper we generalize identities from Fibonacci numbers and Lucas numbers to Fibonacci type and Lucas type polynomials. A Fibonacci type polynomial is equivalent to a Lucas type polynomial if they both satisfy the same recurrence relations. Most of the identities provide relationships between two equivalent polynomials. In particular, each type of identities in this paper relate the following polynomial sequences: Fibona…
In this note we study the integer solutions of Cayley's cubic equation. We find infinite families of solutions built from recurrence relations. We use these solutions to solve certain general Pell equations. We also show the similarities and differences to Markov numbers. In particular we introduce new formulae for the solutions to Cayley's cubic equation in analogy with Markov numbers and discuss their distinctions.
For an integer $k\geq 2$, let $\{F^{(k)}_{n}\}_{n\geqslant 2-k}$ be the $ k$--generalized Fibonacci sequence which starts with $0, \ldots, 0,1$ (a total of $k$ terms) and for which each term afterwards is the sum of the $k$ preceding terms. In this paper, for an integer $d\geq 2$ which is square free, we show that there is at most one value of the positive integer $x$ participating in the Pell equation $x^{2}-dy^{2} =\pm 1$ which is a $k$--generalized Fibonacci number, with a couple of parametric exceptions which we completely characterise. This paper extends previous work from [17] for the ca…
This thesis is about the study of Diophantine equations involving binary recurrent sequences with arithmetic functions. Various Diophantine problems are investigated and new results are found out of this study. Firstly, we study several questions concerning the intersection between two classes of non-degenerate binary recurrence sequences and provide, whenever possible, effective bounds on the largest member of this intersection. Our main study concerns Diophantine equations of the form $φ(|au_n |)=|bv_m|,$ where $φ$ is the Euler totient function, $\{u_n\}_{n\geq 0}$ and $\{v_m\}_{m\geq 0}$ ar…
Euler discovered recurrence for divisor sum functions as a consequence of the pentagonal numbers theorem. With similar idea and also motivated by Ewell's work in 1977, we prove new recurrences for certain divisor sum functions and triangular numbers.
Let $p\equiv 1\bmod 4$ be a prime number. We use a number field variant of Vinogradov's method to prove density results about the following four arithmetic invariants: (i) $16$-rank of the class group $\mathrm{Cl}(-4p)$ of the imaginary quadratic number field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-4p})$; (ii) $8$-rank of the ordinary class group $\mathrm{Cl}(8p)$ of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{8p})$; (iii) the solvability of the negative Pell equation $x^2 - 2py^2 = -1$ over the integers; (iv) $2$-part of the Tate-Šafarevič group of the congruent number elliptic curve $E_p: y^2 = x^3-p^2x$. Our res…
In this paper we produce a few continuations of our previous work on partitions into fractions. Specifically, we study strictly increasing integer sequences $\{n_j\}$ such that there are partitions for all integers less than the floor of $G$, where $G=\frac{n_1}{j} + \frac{n_2}{j} + \cdots + \frac{n_{j-1}}{j}+\frac{n_j}{j}$, and all summands are distinct terms drawn from $\frac{n_1}{j} + \frac{n_2}{j} + \cdots + \frac{n_{j-1}}{j}+\frac{n_j}{j}$. We call such sequences \enquote{semicomplete}. We find that there are only three semicomplete arithmetic sequences. We also study sequences that give …
In this paper, we consider the new family of recurrence sequences of $(q,k)$-generalized Fibonacci numbers. These sequences naturally extend the well-known sequences of $k$-generalized Fibonacci numbers and generalized $k$-order Pell numbers. We shall obtain a Binet-style formula and study the asymptotic behavior of dominant root of characteristic equation. Moreover, we shall prove some auxiliary results about these sequences. In particular, we characterize the first $(q,k)$-generalized Fibonacci numbers in terms of binary sequences.
For an arbitrary homogeneous linear recurrence sequence of order d with constant coefficients, we derive recurrence relations for all subsequences with indices in arithmetic progression. The coefficients of these recurrences are given explicitly in terms of partial Bell polynomials that depend on at most d-1 terms of the generalized Lucas sequence associated with the given recurrence. We also provide an elegant formula for the partial sums of such sequences and illustrate all of our results with examples of various orders, including common generalizations of the Fibonacci numbers.
Let $S := \{p_1,\ldots ,p_{\ell}\}$ be a finite set of primes and denote by $\mathcal{U}_S$ the set of all rational integers whose prime factors are all in $S$. Let $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ be a non-degenerate linear recurrence sequence with order at least two. In this paper, we provide a finiteness result for the solutions of the Diophantine equation $aU_n + bU_m = z_1 +\cdots +z_r,$ where $n\geq m$ and $z_1, \ldots, z_r\in \mathcal{U}_S$.
In this paper we prove that a matrix property of nettedness (all 2x2 cells satisfy a recurrence) is preserved for powers of such a matrix, where the coefficients are all instances of the same sequence. Also, we find an n-dimensional analog of the Q-matrix for the general Pell(Fibonacci) sequence. We close by giving a conjecture about the spectral properties of the binomial matrix we found.
Let $\{u_{n}\}_{n \geq 0}$ be a non-degenerate binary recurrence sequence with positive, square-free discriminant and $p$ be a fixed prime number. In this paper, we have shown the finiteness result for the solutions of the Diophantine equation $u_{n_{1}} + u_{n_{2}} + \cdots + u_{n_{t}} = p^{z}$ with some conditions on $n_i $ for all $1\leq i \leq t$. Moreover, we explicitly find all the powers of three which are sums of three balancing numbers using the lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms. Further, we use a variant of Baker-Davenport reduction method in Diophantine approximation due t…
There is a growing literature on sums of reciprocals of polynomial functions of recurrence relations with constant coefficients and fixed depth, such as Fibonacci and Tribonacci numbers, products of such numbers, and balancing numbers (numbers $n$ such that the sum of the integers less than $n$ equals the sum of the $r$ integers immediately after, for some $r$ which is called the balancer of $n$; If $n$ is included in the summation, we have the cobalancing numbers, and $r$ is called the cobalancer of $n$). We generalize previous work to reciprocal sums of depth two recurrence sequences with ar…
Let $\{B_n\}$, $\{B_n(x)\}$ and $\{E_n(x)\}$ be the Bernoulli numbers, Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials, respectively. In this paper we mainly establish formulas for $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkB_{n-k}(x)$, $\sum_{6\mid k}\binom nkE_{n-k}(x)$ and $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkm^kB_{n-k}$ in the cases $m=2,3,4$.
Let $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ be a fixed linear recurrence sequence of integers with order at least two, and for any positive integer $\ell$, let $\ell \cdot 2^{\ell} + 1$ be a Cullen number. Recently in \cite{bmt}, generalized Cullen numbers in terms of linear recurrence sequence $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ under certain weak assumptions has been studied. However, there is an error in their proof. In this paper, we generalize their work, as well as our result fixes their error. In particular, for a given polynomial $Q(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ we consider the Diophantine equation $U_{n_1} + \cdots + U_{n_k} = \ell…
Let $\{ {U_{n}\}_{n \geq 0} }$ be a non-degenerate binary recurrence sequence with positive discriminant. Let $\{p_1,\ldots, p_s\}$ be fixed prime numbers and $\{b_1,\ldots ,b_s\}$ be fixed non-negative integers. In this paper, we obtain the finiteness result for the solution of the Diophantine equation $U_{n_{1}} + \cdots + U_{n_{t}} = b_1 p_1^{z_1} + \cdots+ b_s p_s^{z_s} $ under certain assumptions. Moreover, we explicitly solve the equation $F_{n_1}+ F_{n_2}= 2^{z_1} +3^{z_2}$, in non-negative integers $n_1, n_2, z_1, z_2$ with $z_2\geq z_1$. The main tools used in this work are the lower …
Let $\{u_{n}\}_{n \geq 0}$ be a non-degenerate binary recurrence sequence with positive discriminant. In this paper, we consider the Diophantine equation $u_m + u_n = a_1 n_1! + \cdots + a_k n_k!$ and prove that there are only finitely many effectively computable terms which can be expressed as a sum of factorials. Furthermore, we find the terms of the balancing sequences that can be written as a sum of two factorials.
We give a simplified presentation of some results about recurrences of certain sequences of binomial sums in terms of (generalized) Fibonacci and Lucas polynomials.
Due to some results by John P. D Angelo and Dusty Grundmeier about CR- mappings the main results of my 2001 paper about recurrences for some sequences of binomial sums can be simplified.
We consider a family of integer sequences generated by nonlinear recurrences of the second order, which have the curious property that the terms of the sequence, and integer multiples of the ratios of successive terms (which are also integers), appear interlaced in the continued fraction expansion of the sum of the reciprocals of the terms. Using the rapid (double exponential) growth of the terms, for each sequence it is shown that the sum of the reciprocals is a transcendental number.
Let $S= \{ p_1, \ldots, p_s\}$ be a finite, non-empty set of distinct prime numbers and $(U_{n})_{n \geq 0}$ be a linear recurrence sequence of integers of order $r$. For any positive integer $k,$ we define $(U_j^{(k)})_{j\geq 1}$ an increasing sequence composed of integers of the form $U_{n_k} +\cdots + U_{n_1}, \ n_k>\cdots >n_1$. Under certain assumptions, we prove that for any $ε>0,$ there exists an integer $n_{0}$ such that $[U_j^{(k)}]_S < \left(U_j^{(k)}\right)^ε,$ for $ j > n_0,$ where $[m]_S$ denote the $S$-part of the positive integer $m$. On further assumptions on $(U_{n})_{n \geq 0…
A linear recurrence sequence in a cyclotomic field produces a sequence of the generating fields of each term. We show that the later sequence is periodic after removing the first finite terms, and give a bound of its period. This can be applied to exponential sums.
Zeckendorf's Theorem states that every positive integer can be uniquely represented as a sum of non-adjacent Fibonacci numbers, indexed from $1, 2, 3, 5,\ldots$. This has been generalized by many authors, in particular to constant coefficient fixed depth linear recurrences with positive (or in some cases non-negative) coefficients. In this work we extend this result to a recurrence with non-constant coefficients, $a_{n+1} = n a_{n} + a_{n-1}$. The decomposition law becomes every $m$ has a unique decomposition as $\sum s_i a_i$ with $s_i \le i$, where if $s_i = i$ then $s_{i-1} = 0$. Similar to…
It is commonly known that $ζ(2k) = q_{k}\frac{ζ(2k + 2)}{π^2}$ with known rational numbers $q_{k}$. In this work we construct recurrence relations of the form $\sum_{k = 1}^{\infty}r_{k}\frac{ζ(2k + 1)}{π^{2k}} = 0$ and show that series representations for the coefficients $r_{k} \in \mathbb{R}$ can be computed explicitly.
The degree sequence of the algebraic numbers in an algebraic linear recurrence sequence is shown to be virtually periodic. This is proved using the Skolem-Mahler-Lech theorem. It has applications to the degree sequence and the minimal polynomial sequence for exponential sums over finite fields. The degree periodicity also holds for some more complicated non-linear recurrence sequences. We give one example from the iterations of a polynomial map. This depending on the dynamic Mordell-Lang conjecture which has been proved in some cases.
Ramanujan gave a recurrence relation for the partition function in terms of the sum of the divisor function $σ(n)$. In 1885, J.W. Glaisher considered seven divisor sums closely related to the sum of the divisors function. We develop a calculus to associate a generating function with each of these divisor sums. This yields analogues of Ramanujan's recurrence relation for several partition-theoretic functions as well as $r_k(n)$ and $t_k(n)$, functions counting the number of ways of writing a number as a sum of squares (respectively, triangular) numbers. As by-products of this association, we ob…
