This paper deals with the boundary controllability of inviscid incompressible fluids for which thermal effects are important. They will be modeled through the so called Boussinesq approximation. In the zero heat diffusion case, by adapting and extending some ideas from J.-M.~Coron and O.~Glass, we establish the simultaneous global exact controllability of the velocity field and the temperature for 2D and 3D flows. When the heat diffusion coefficient is positive, we present some additional results concerning exact controllability for the velocity field and local null controllability of the temperature.
In this paper, we prove an approximate controllability result for the linearized Boussinesq system around a fluid at rest, in a two dimensional channel, when the control acts only on the temperature, through the upper boundary.
In this paper we study the exact boundary controllability for the following Boussinesq equation with variable physical parameters: \begin{array}{lll} ρ(x)y_{tt}=-(σ(x)y_{xx})_{xx}+(q(x)y_x)_x-(y^2)_{xx},&&t>0,~x\in(0,l),\\ y(t,0)=σ(l)y_{xx}(t,0)=y(t,l)=0,~~σ(l)y_{xx}(t,l)=u(t)&&t>0, \end{array} where $l>0$, the coefficients $ρ(x)>0,σ(x)>0 $, $q(x)\geq0$ in $[0,l]$ and $u$ is the control acting at the end $x=l$. We prove that the linearized problem is exactly controllable in any time $T>0$. Our approach is essentially based on a detailed spectral analysis together with the moment method. Furthe…
We study the local controllability properties of 2D and 3D bio-mimetic swimmers employing the change of their geometric shape to propel themselves in an incompressible fluid described by Navier-Stokes equations. It is assumed that swimmers' bodies consist of finitely many parts, identified with the fluid they occupy, that are subsequently linked by the rotational and elastic internal forces. These forces are explicitly described and serve as the means to affect the geometric configuration of swimmers' bodies. Similar models were previously investigated in [6]-[13].
In this paper, we investigate the controllability of the point vortex system by means of a single vortex. The point vortex system is a well-known simplied model for the incompressible Euler equation, where the vorticity is concentrated in a nite number of Dirac masses. We use one of the vortices as a control, and prove that by suitably choosing its trajectory, we can drive all other vortices to a given prescribed position in arbitrary time.
In this proceeding we expose a particular case of a recent result obtained by the authors regarding the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a smooth bounded and simply connected bounded domain, either in 2D or in 3D, with a Navier slip-with-friction boundary condition except on a part of the boundary. This under-determination encodes that one has control over the remaining part of the boundary. We prove that for any initial data, for any positive time, there exists a weak Leray solution which vanishes at this given time.
In this work, we investigate the small-time global exact controllability of the Navier-Stokes equation, both towards the null equilibrium state and towards weak trajectories. We consider a viscous incompressible fluid evolving within a smooth bounded domain, either in 2D or in 3D. The controls are only located on a small part of the boundary, intersecting all its connected components. On the remaining parts of the boundary, the fluid obeys a Navier slip-with-friction boundary condition. Even though viscous boundary layers appear near these uncontrolled boundaries, we prove that small-time glob…
We are interested by the controllability of a fluid-structure interaction system where the fluid is viscous and incompressible and where the structure is elastic and located on a part of the boundary of the fluid's domain. In this article, we simplify this system by considering a linearization and by replacing the wave/plate equation for the structure by a heat equation. We show that the corresponding system coupling the Stokes equations with a heat equation at its boundary is null-controllable. The proof is based on Carleman estimates and interpolation inequalities. One of the Carleman estima…
We consider the 2D incompressible Navier-Stokes equation in a rectangle with the usual no-slip boundary condition prescribed on the upper and lower boundaries. We prove that for any positive time, for any finite energy initial data, there exist controls on the left and right boundaries and a distributed force, which can be chosen arbitrarily small in any Sobolev norm in space, such that the corresponding solution is at rest at the given final time. Our work improves earlier results where the distributed force is small only in a negative Sobolev space. It is a further step towards an answer to …
