Let $d\in\mathbb{Z}$ and $p_i$ be an integral polynomial with $p_i(0)=0,1\leq i\leq d$. It is shown that if $S$ is thickly syndetic in $\mathbb{Z}$, then $\{(m,n)\in\mathbb{Z}^2:m+p_i(n),m+p_2(n),\ldots,m+p_d(n)\in S\}$ is thickly syndetic in $\mathbb{Z}^2$.
Meanwhile, we construct a transitive, strong mixing and non-minimal topological dynamical system $(X,T)$, such that the set $\{x\in X:\forall\ \text{open}\ U\ni x,\exists\ n\in\mathbb{Z} \ \text{s.t.}\ T^{n}x\in U,T^{2n}x\in U\}$ is not dense in $X$.
Some of the most common mathematical models in biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering, are polynomial dynamical systems, i.e., systems of differential equations with polynomial right-hand sides. Inspired by notions and results that have been developed for the analysis of reaction networks in biochemistry and chemical engineering, we show that any polynomial dynamical system on the positive orthant $\mathbb R^n_{> 0}$ can be regarded as being generated by an oriented graph embedded in $\mathbb R^n$, called $\mathit{Euclidean \ embedded \ graph}$. This allows us to recast key conjectures a…
Systems of differential equations with polynomial right-hand sides are very common in applications. On the other hand, their mathematical analysis is very challenging in general, due to the possibility of complex dynamics: multiple basins of attraction, oscillations, and even chaotic dynamics. Even if we restrict our attention to mass-action systems, all of these complex dynamical behaviours are still possible. On the other hand, if a polynomial dynamical system has a weakly reversible deficiency zero ($WR_0$) realization, then its dynamics is known to be remarkably simple: oscillations and ch…
A persistent dynamical system in $\mathbb{R}^d_{> 0}$ is one whose solutions have positive lower bounds for large $t$, while a permanent dynamical system in $\mathbb{R}^d_{> 0}$ is one whose solutions have uniform upper and lower bounds for large $t$. These properties have important applications for the study of mathematical models in biochemistry, cell biology, and ecology. Inspired by reaction network theory, we define a class of polynomial dynamical systems called tropically endotactic. We show that two-dimensional tropically endotactic polynomial dynamical systems are permanent, irrespecti…
Given a dynamical system with polynomial right-hand side, can it be generated by a reaction network that possesses certain properties? This question is important because some network properties may guarantee specific dynamical properties, such as existence or uniqueness of equilibria, persistence, permanence, or global stability. Here we focus on this problem in the context of weakly reversible deficiency one networks. In particular, we describe an algorithm for deciding if a polynomial dynamical system admits a weakly reversible deficiency one realization, and identifying one if it does exist…
This article focus on the connected locus of the cubic polynomial slice $Per_1(λ)$ with a parabolic fixed point of multiplier $λ=e^{2πi\frac{p}{q}}$. We first show that any parabolic component, which is a parallel notion of hyperbolic component, is a Jordan domain. Moreover, a continuum $\mathcal{K}_λ$ called the central part in the connected locus is defined. This is the natural analogue to the closure of the main hyperbolic component of $Per_1(0)$. We prove that $\mathcal{K}_λ$ is almost a double covering of the filled-in Julia set of the quadratic polynomial $P_λ(z) = λz+z^2$.

Systems of differential equations with polynomial right-hand sides are very common in applications. In particular, when restricted to the positive orthant, they appear naturally (according to the law of mass-action kinetics) in ecology, population dynamics, as models of biochemical interaction networks, and models of the spread of infectious diseases. On the other hand, their mathematical analysis is very challenging in general; in particular, it is very difficult to answer questions about the long-term dynamics of the variables (species) in the model, such as questions about persistence and e…
We discuss several aspects of the dynamical Mahler measure for multivariate polynomials. We prove a weak dynamical version of Boyd--Lawton formula and we characterize the polynomials with integer coefficients having dynamical Mahler measure zero both for the case of one variable (Kronecker's lemma) and for the case of two variables, under the assumption that the dynamical version of Lehmer's question is true.
We study the algebraic dynamical systems generated by triangular systems of rational functions and estimate the height growth of iterations generated by such systems. Further, using a result on the reduction modulo primes of systems of multivariate polynomials over the integers, we study the periodic points and the intersection of orbits of such dynamical systems over finite fields. 1
Given a generic polynomial $f(x)$, the generalized dynatomic polynomial $Φ_{f,c,d}(x)$ vanishes at precisely those $α$ such that $f^c(α)$ has period exactly $d$ under iteration of $f(x)$. We show that the shifted dynatomic polynomials $Φ_{f,c,d}(x) - 1$ often have generalized dynatomic factors, and that these factors are in correspondence with certain cyclotomic factors of necklace polynomials. These dynatomic factors of $Φ_{f,c,d}(x) - 1$ have an interpretation in terms of new multiplicative relations between dynamical units which are uniform in the polynomial $f(x)$.
We define indexed categories of (open) dynamical system and random dynamical system over polynomial interfaces, where time is given by an arbitrary monoid $\mathbb{T}$. We consider the case of open random dynamical systems over both open and closed noise sources, and the case where the interface of the random system is `nested' over the interface of its noise source. We show that, in discrete time, our categories of dynamical systems over polynomial interfaces $p$ are equivalent to Spivak's categories $p$-$\mathbf{Coalg}$ of $p$-coalgebras. We then define a notion of generalized $pT$-coalgebra…
Using $p$-adic numbers, we partially categorize the cycles of a sizable class of polynomial dynamical systems. In turn, we prove a few results related to the non-trivial cycles of the $\textit{Collatz map}$ $\text{Col} : \mathbb{Z}_+ \to \mathbb{Z}_+$ defined by $$\text{Col}(n) = \begin{cases} 3n + 1, & n \text{ is odd;} \\ n/2, & \text{otherwise.}\end{cases}$$ Proving the non-existence of non-trivial Collatz cycles would reduce the Collatz conjecture to whether the Collatz map can diverge to infinity.
This paper is a sequel of the reference \cite[§4.2, p.p. 1782--1783]{almp}, in where some families of quadratic polynomial vector fields related with orthogonal polynomials were studied. We extend such results that contain some details related with differential Galois Theory as well the inclusion of Darboux theory of integrability and qualitative theory of dynamical systems.
We study one-dimensional algebraic families of pairs given by a polynomial with a marked point. We prove an "unlikely intersection" statement for such pairs thereby exhibiting strong rigidity features for these pairs. We infer from this result the dynamical André-Oort conjecture for curves in the moduli space of polynomials, by describing one-dimensional families in this parameter space containing infinitely many post-critically finite parameters.
We construct a family of polynomials with real coefficients that contains as a particular case the Fejér and Suffridge polynomials. These polynomials allow us to suggest a robust algorithm to search for cycles of arbitrary length in non-linear autonomous discrete dynamical systems. Numeric examples are included.
A portrait is a combinatorial model for a discrete dynamical system on a finite set. We study the geometry of portrait moduli spaces, whose points correspond to equivalence classes of point configurations on the affine line for which there exist polynomials realizing the dynamics of a given portrait. We present results and pose questions inspired by a large-scale computational survey of intersections of portrait moduli spaces for polynomials in low degree.

Let $d\in {\mathbb N}$ and $p_i$ be an integral polynomial with $p_i(0)=0$, $1\le i\le d$. It is shown that if $S$ is piecewise syndetic in $\mathbb Z$, then $$\{(m,n)\in{\mathbb Z}^2: m+p_1(n),\ldots,m+p_d(n)\in S\}$$ is piecewise syndetic in ${\mathbb Z}^2$, which extends the result by Glasner and Furstenberg for linear polynomials. Our result is obtained by showing the density of minimal points of a dynamical system of ${\mathbb Z}^2$ action associated with the piecewise syndetic set $S$ and the polynomials $\{p_1,\ldots,p_d\}$. Moreover, it is proved that if $(X,T)$ is minimal, then for ea…
We establish the finiteness of periodic points, that we called Geometric Dynamical Northcott Property, for regular polynomials automorphisms of the affine plane over a function field $\mathbf{K}$ of characteristic zero, improving results of Ingram. For that, we show that when $\mathbf{K}$ is the field of rational functions of a smooth complex projective curve, the canonical height of a subvariety is the mass of an appropriate bifurcation current and that a marked point is stable if and only if its canonical height is zero. We then establish the Geometric Dynamical Northcott Property using a si…
Fix an integer $d\geq 2$. The parameters $c_0\in \bar{\mathbb{Q}}$ for which the unicritical polynomial $f_{d,c}(z)=z^d+c\in \mathbb{C}[z]$ has finite postcritical orbit, also known as Misiurewicz parameters, play a significant role in complex dynamics. Recent work of Buff, Epstein, and Koch proved the first known cases of a long-standing dynamical conjecture of Milnor using their arithmetic properties, about which relatively little is otherwise known. Continuing our work in a companion paper, we address further arithmetic properties of Misiurewicz parameters, especially the nature of the alge…
In this paper, we prove a power-law version dynamical localization for a random operator $\mathrm{H}_ω$ on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with long-range hopping. In breif, for the linear Schrödinger equation $$\mathrm{i}\partial_{t}u=\mathrm{H}_ωu, \quad u \in \ell^2(\mathbb{Z}^d), $$ the Sobolev norm of the solution with well localized initial state is bounded for any $t\geq 0$.
A time-dependent monic polynomial in the z variable with N distinct roots such that exactly one root has multiplicity m>=2 is considered. For k=1,2, the k-th derivatives of the N roots are expressed in terms of the derivatives of order j<= k of the first N coefficients of the polynomial and of the derivatives of order j<= k-1 of the roots themselves. These relations are utilized to construct new classes of algebraically solvable first order systems of ODEs as well as N-body problems. Multiple examples of solvable isochronous (all solutions are periodic with the same period) 2- and 3-body probl…
