We define radically finite rings and show that finite dimensional radically finite rings are Noetherian, and that if either R is a finite character Hilbert domain that contains a field of characteristic zero or a finite dimensional Prufer domain, then the polynomial ring R[X] over R is radically finite if and only if R is a Dedekind domain with torsion ideal class group. We then consider the radically finite condition on UFD and show that there does not exist a finite character UFD R of Krull dimension 2 over which the polynomial ring R[X] is radically finite. From this it follows that not all space curves are set theoretic complete intersection.
Let $R$ be a commutative $G$-graded ring with a nonzero unity. In this article, we introduce the concept of graded radically principal ideals. A graded ideal $I$ of $R$ is said to be graded radically principal if $Grad(I)=Grad(\langle c\rangle)$ for some homogeneous $c\in R$, where $Grad(I)$ is the graded radical of $I$. The graded ring $R$ is said to be graded radically principal if every graded ideal of $R$ is graded radically principal. We study graded radically principal rings. We prove an analogue of the Cohen theorem, in the graded case, precisely, a graded ring is graded radically princ…
We consider a classification problem of ideals by codimension in case rings are the local rings of irreducible curve singularities. In this paper, we introduce a systematic method to solve this problem.
We will give a pure combinatorial proof of the Eisenbud-Goto conjecture for arbitrary monomial curves. Moreover, we will show that the conjecture holds for certain simplicial affine semigroup rings.
In this article, we give the explicit minimal free resolution of the associated graded ring of certain affine monomial curves in affine 4-space based on the standard basis theory. As a result, we give the minimal graded free resolution and compute the Hilbert function of the tangent cone of these families.
We continue the program started in \cite{M1} to understand the combinatorial commutative algebra of the projective coordinate rings of the moduli stack $\mathcal{M}_{C, \vec{p}}(SL_2(\C))$ of quasi-parabolic $SL_2(\C)$ principal bundles on a generic marked projective curve. We find general bounds on the degrees of polynomials needed to present these algebras by studying their toric degenerations. In particular, we show that the square of any effective line bundle on this moduli stack yields a Koszul projective coordinate ring. This leads us to formalize the properties of the polytopes used in …
This paper mainly focuses on commutative local domains of dimension one. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of trace ideals in terms of integrally closed ideals. We also explore properties of such rings related to birational extensions, reflexive ideals, and reflexive Ulrich modules. Special attention is given in the case of numerical semigroup rings of non-gap four. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of reflexive ideals up to isomorphism. Non-domains arising from fiber products are also explored.
The aim of this paper is to study the theory of cohomology annihilators over commutative Gorenstein rings. We adopt a triangulated category point of view and study the annihilation of stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules. We prove that in dimension one the cohomology annihilator ideal and the conductor ideal coincide under mild assumptions. We present a condition on a ring homomorphism between Gorenstein rings which allows us to carry the cohomology annihilator of the domain to that of the codomain. As an application, we generalize the Milnor-Jung formula for algebraic curves to t…
In this paper we study the Hilbert function of $\gr_{\mathfrak{m}}(R)$, when $R$ is a numerical semigroup ring or, equivalently, the coordinate ring of a monomial curve. In particular, we prove a sufficient condition for a numerical semigroup ring in order get a non-decreasing Hilbert function, without making any assumption on its embedding dimension; moreover, we show how this new condition allows to improve known results about this problem. To this aim we use certain invariants of the semigroup, with particular regard to its \Apery-set.
Finite generation of the symbolic Rees ring of a space monomial prime ideal of a 3-dimensional weighted polynomial ring is a very interesting problem. Negative curves play important roles in finite generation of these rings. We are interested in the structure of the negative curve. We shall prove that negative curves are rational in many cases. We also see that the Cox ring of the blow-up of a toric variety at the point (1,1,...,1) coincides with the extended symbolic Rees ring of an ideal of a polynomial ring. For example, Roberts' second counterexample to Cowsik's question (and Hilbert's 14t…
Given a numerical semigroup ring $R=k[\![S]\!]$, an ideal $E$ of $S$ and an odd element $b \in S$, the numerical duplication $S \! \Join^b \! E$ is a numerical semigroup, whose associated ring $k[\![S \! \Join^b \! E]\!]$ shares many properties with the Nagata's idealization and the amalgamated duplication of $R$ along the monomial ideal $I=(t^e \mid e\in E)$. In this paper we study the associated graded ring of the numerical duplication characterizing when it is Cohen-Macaulay, Gorenstein or complete intersection. We also study when it is a homogeneous numerical semigroup, a property that is …
In this paper, we shall study finite generation of symbolic Rees rings of the defining ideal of the space monomial curves $(t^a, t^b, t^c)$ for pairwise coprime integers $a$, $b$, $c$ such that $(a,b,c) \neq (1,1,1)$. If such a ring is not finitely generated over a base field, then it is a counterexample to the Hilbert's fourteenth problem. Finite generation of such rings is deeply related to existence of negative curves on certain normal projective surfaces. We study a sufficient condition (Definition 3.6) for existence of a negative curve. Using it, we prove that, in the case of $(a+b+c)^2 >…
In this paper, we shall study finite generation of symbolic Rees rings of the defining ideal ${\frak p}$ of the space monomial curve $(t^a, t^b, t^c)$ for pairwise coprime integers $a$, $b$, $c$. Suppose that the base field is of characteristic $0$ and the above ideal ${\frak p}$ is minimally generated by three polynomials. Under the assumption that the homogeneous element $ξ$ of the minimal degree in ${\frak p}$ is the negative curve, we determine the minimal degree of an element $η$ such that the pair $\{ ξ, η\}$ satisfies Huneke's criterion in the case where the symbolic Rees ring is Noethe…
We give a quasihomogeneity criterion for Gorenstein curves. For complete intersections, it is related to the first step of Vasconcelos' normalization algorithm. In the process, we give a simplified proof of the Kunz-Ruppert criterion.
This study examines the finite $F$-representation type (abbr. FFRT) property of a two-dimensional normal graded ring $R$ in characteristic $p>0$, using notions from the theory of algebraic stacks. Given a graded ring $R$, we consider an orbifold curve $\mathfrak C$, which is a root stack over the smooth curve $C=\text{Proj} R$, such that $R$ is the section ring associated with a line bundle $L$ on $\mathfrak C$. The FFRT property of $R$ is then rephrased with respect to the Frobenius push-forwards $F^e_*(L^i)$ on the orbifold curve $\mathfrak C$. As a result, we see that if the singularity of …
In this paper we calculate the Witt ring W(C) of a smooth geometrically connected projective curve C over a finite field of characteristic different from 2. We view W(C) as a subring of W(k(C)) where k(C) is the function field of C. We show that the triviality of the Clifford algebra of a bilinear space over C gives the main relation. The calculation is then completed using classical results for bilinear spaces over fields.
This note gives the complete projective classification of rational, cuspidal plane curves of degree at least 6, and having only weighted homogeneous singularities. It also sheds new light on some previous characterizations of free and nearly free curves in terms of Tjurina numbers. Finally, we suggest a stronger form of Terao's conjecture on the freeness of a line arrangement being determined by its combinatorics.
We study the Cox ring of the moduli space of stable pointed rational curves, \M_{0,n}, via the closely related permutohedral (or Losev-Manin) spaces. Our main result establishes \binom{n}{2} polynomial subrings of the Cox ring, thus giving collections of boundary variables that intersect the ideal of relations trivially. As applications, we give a combinatorial way to partially solve the Riemann-Roch problem for \M_{0,n}, and we show that all relations in degrees of Cox(\M_{0,6}) arising from certain pull-backs from projective spaces are generated by the Plucker relations.
Projective monomial curves correspond to rings generated by monomials of the same degree in two variables. Such rings always have finite Macaulayfication. We show how to characterize the Buchsbaumness and the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of these rings by means of their finite Macaulayfication, and we use this method to study the Buchsbaumness and to estimate the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of large classes of non-smooth monomial curves in terms of the given monomials.
In this paper we characterize the value set $Δ$ of the $R$-modules of the form $R+zR$ for the local ring $R$ associated to a germ $ξ$ of an irreducible plane curve singularity with one Puiseux pair. In the particular case of the module of Kähler differentials attached to $ξ$, we recover some results of Delorme. From our characterization of $Δ$ we introduce a proper subset of semimodules over the value semigroup of the ring $R$. Moreover, we provide a geometric algorithm to construct all possible semimodules in this subset for a given value semigroup.
In this article, by using the technique of gluing semigroups, we give infinitely many families of 1-dimensional local rings with non-decreasing Hilbert functions. More significantly, these are local rings whose associated graded rings are not necessarily Cohen-Macaulay. In this sense, we give an effective technique to construct large families of 1-dimensional Gorenstein local rings associated to monomial curves, which support Rossi's conjecture saying that every Gorenstein local ring has non-decreasing Hilbert function.
We prove that the Cox ring of $\bar{M}_{0,6}$, the moduli space of stable, rational curves with 6 marked points, is finitely generated by sections corresponding to the boundary divisors and divisors which are pull-backs of the hyperelliptic locus in $\bar{M}_3$, the moduli space of stable, genus 3 curves, via morphisms that send a 6-pointed rational curve to a curve with 3 nodes by identifying 3 pairs of points. In particular, this gives a self-contained proof of Hassett and Tschinkel's result about the effective cone of $\bar{M}_{0,6}$ being generated by the above mentioned divisors.
In this paper we consider the problem of finding explicitly canonical ideals of one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings. We show that Gorenstein ideals contained in a high power of the maximal ideal are canonical ideals. In the codimension two case, from a Hilbert-Burch resolution, we show how to construct canonical ideals of curve singularities. Finally, we translate the problem of the analytic classification of curve singularities to the classification of local Artin Gorenstein rings with suitable length.
We define and study the derived categories of the first kind for curved DG and A-infinity algebras complete over a pro-Artinian local ring with the curvature elements divisible by the maximal ideal of the local ring. We develop the Koszul duality theory in this setting and deduce the generalizations of the conventional results about A-infinity modules to the weakly curved case. The formalism of contramodules and comodules over pro-Artinian topological rings is used throughout the paper. Our motivation comes from the Floer-Fukaya theory.
As it is well known, one can define an abelian group on the points of an elliptic curve, using the so called chord-tangent law \cite{dale}, and a chosen point. However, that very chord-tangent law allows us to define a rather more obscure algebraic structure, which we call an elliptic group, on the points of an elliptic curve. In the cases when our curve has a so called flex point (intersection number with the tangent is $3$), the classical abelian group and the elliptic group carry the same information. However, if our curve does not have such a point (which often happens over $\mathbb{Q}$), …
In this manuscript we shall give an explicit formula for the jumping numbers of a simple complete ideal in a two-dimensional regular local ring. In particular, we obtain a formula for the jumping numbers of an analytically irreducible plane curve. We then show that the jumping numbers determine the equisingularity class of the curve.
We study the difference between the lengths of the torsion of the differential modules of the local ring R of an algebroid curve and its first quadratic transform. The conjecture is that this difference should be positive if R is not regular. This is shown to be true in some cases, especially for stable complete intersections and for semigroup rings which are complete intersections.
The Briancon-Skoda number of a ring R is defined as the smallest integer k, such that for any ideal I\subset R and r\geq 1, the integral closure of I^{k+r-1} is contained in I^r. We compute the Briancon-Skoda number of the local ring of any analytic irreducible planar curve in terms of its Puiseux characteristics. It turns out that this number is closely related to the Milnor number.
We consider a Fermat curve $F_n:x^n+y^n+z^n=1$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p\geq0$ and study the action of the automorphism group $G=\left(\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}\right)\rtimes S_3$ on the canonical ring $R=\bigoplus H^0(F_n,Ω_{F_n}^{\otimes m})$ when $p>3$, $p\nmid n$ and $n-1$ is not a power of $p$. In particular, we explicitly determine the classes $[H^0(F_n,Ω_{F_n}^{\otimes m})]$ in the Grothendieck group $K_0(G,k)$ of finitely generated $k[G]$-modules, describe the respective equivariant Hilbert series $H_{R,G}(t)$ as a rational fun…
This paper deals with computing the global dimension of endomorphism rings of maximal Cohen--Macaulay (=MCM) modules over commutative rings. Several examples are computed. In particular, we determine the global spectra, that is, the sets of all possible finite global dimensions of endomorphism rings of MCM-modules, of the curve singularities of type $A_n$ for all $n$, $D_n$ for $n \leq 13$ and $E_{6,7,8}$ and compute the global dimensions of Leuschke's normalization chains for all ADE curves, as announced in [Dao-Faber-Ingalls]. Moreover, we determine the centre of an endomorphism ring of a MC…
