A Metropolis Monte Carlo simulation is used in this paper to investigate the temperature dependency of the hysteresis loops of a spin-1 bilayer with square monolayers. In this system, the atoms interact ferromagnetically in-plane, with either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic interplane interactions. The effects of four distinct combinations of the Hamiltonian parameters on the hysteresis behaviours are discussed in detail. The geometry of the hysteresis loops changes depending on how the exchange couplings are combined. With ferromagnetic interlayer coupling, only the central hysteresis loop opens while for the antiferromagnetic case, the hysteresis loop becomes a double loop for the specific combination of coupling strengths. Additionally, in all these cases, the area of the hysteresis loops grows with the gradual lowering of the temperature.
The hysteresis of the Ising model in a spatially homogeneous AC field is studied using both mean-field calculations and two-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations. The frequency dispersion and the temperature dependence of the hysteresis loop area are studied in relation to the dynamic symmetry loss. The dynamic mechanisms may be different when the hysteresis loops are symmetric or asymmetric, and they can lead to a double-peak frequency dispersion and qualitatively different temperature dependence.
An effective-field theory with correlations has been used to study the hysteresis, susceptibility and compensation behaviors of the spin-1 hexagonal Ising nanowire (HIN) with core-shell structure. The effects of the temperature, crystal field, core-shell interfacial coupling and shell surface coupling are investigated on hysteresis and compensation behaviors, in detail. When the core-shell interfacial coupling is weak, the double and triple hysteresis loops can be seen in the system. The hysteresis loops have different coercive field points that the susceptibility make peak at these points. Mo…
We use Glauber dynamics to study frequency and temperature dependence of hysteresis loops in the pure (without quenched disorder) Ising model on cubic, square, honeycomb lattices and random graphs. Results are discussed in the context of more extensive studies of hysteresis in the random field Ising model.
We study the effects of next-nearest neighbor (NNN) interaction on the dynamic phase transition (DPT) and hysteresis loop area law in the two-dimensional ferromagnetic kinetic Ising model. We find that inclusion of the NNN interaction causes the DPT boundary of the NN kinetic Ising model to shift to larger values of magnetic field and temperature. The NNN kinetic Ising model can therefore exhibit an interaction induced DPT. Also in the low frequency limit (f$\to$0) the hysteresis loop area law, A(h$_{o}$,f), changes from h$^{0.70}_{o}$f$^{0.36}$ (NN) to h$^{0.14\pm 0.01}_{o}$f$^{0.13\pm0.01}$ …
We present exact expressions for hysteresis loops in the ferromagnetic random field Ising model in the limit of zero temperature and zero driving frequency for an arbitrary initial state of the model on a Bethe lattice. This work extends earlier results that were restricted to an initial state with all spins pointing parallel to each other.
By utilizing the framework of the effective-field theory with correlation, hysteresis and compensation behaviors of mixed spin-1 and spin-2 hexagonal Ising nanowire system is investigated in detail. The effects of Hamiltonian parameters on hysteresis behaviors are discussed, in detail. The compensation behavior of the system is also studied and according to values of Hamiltonian parameters, the Q-, S-, R- and N- type compensation behaviors is obtained in the system. Finally, the obtaining results are compared with some experimental and theoretical results and found in a qualitatively good agre…

Hysteresis characteristics of the crystal field diluted general Spin-S ($S>1$) Blume-Capel model have been studied within the effective field approximation. Particular emphasis has been paid on the large negative valued crystal field and low temperature region and it has been demonstrated for this region that, rising dilution of the crystal field results in decreasing number of windowed hysteresis loops. The evolution of the multiple hysteresis loop with the dilution of the crystal field has been investigated and physical mechanism behind this evolution has been given.
We study hysteresis in anti-ferromagnetic random-field Ising model at zero temperature. The external field is cycled adiabatically between -$\infty$ and $\infty$. Two different distributions of the random-field are considered, (i) a uniform distribution of width $2Δ$ centered at the origin, and (ii) a Gaussian distribution with average value zero and standard deviation $σ$. In each case the hysteresis loop is determined exactly in one dimension and compared with numerical simulations of the model.
We study the magnetic hysteresis in the random field Ising model in 3D. We discuss the disorder dependence of the coercive field H_c, and obtain an analytical description of the smooth part of the hysteresis below and above H_c, by identifying the disorder configurations (instantons) that are the most probable to trigger local avalanches. We estimate the critical disorder strength at which the hysteresis curve becomes continuous. From an instanton analysis at zero field we obtain a description of local two-level systems in the ferromagnetic phase.
Experiments on ferromagnetic thin films have measured the dependence of the hysteresis loop area on the amplitude and frequency of the external field, $A$=$A(H_{0},ω)$, and approximate agreement with numerical simulations of Ising models has been reported. Here we present numerical and theoretical calculations of $A$ in the low-frequency regime for two values of $H_{0}$, which bracket a temperature and system-size dependent crossover field. Our previous Monte Carlo studies have shown that the hysteretic response of the kinetic Ising model is qualitatively different for amplitudes above and bel…
We study zero-temperature hysteresis in the random-field Ising model on a Bethe lattice where a fraction $c$ of the sites have coordination number $z=4$ while the remaining fraction $1-c$ have $z=3$. Numerical simulations as well as probabilistic methods are used to show the existence of critical hysteresis for all values of $c > 0$. This extends earlier results for $c=0$ and $c=1$ to the entire range $0 \le c \le 1$, and provides new insight in non-equilibrium critical phenomena.
We consider the analytic solution of the zero temperature hysteresis in the random field Ising model on a Bethe lattice of coordination number $z$, and study how it approaches the mean field solution in the limit z-> \infty. New analytical results concerning the energy of the system along the hysteresis loop and first order reversal curves (FORC diagrams) are also presented.
Hysteresis behaviors of the binary alloy system represented by the formula $A_c B_{1-c}$ have been investigated within the framework of EFT. The system consists of type A atoms (spin-$1$) with concentration $c$ and type B atoms (spin-$1/2$) with concentration $1-c$. After giving the phase diagrams, we focused on the different type of hysteresis behaviors in the system. Especially, the mechanisms giving rise to double hysteresis behavior have been explained, which appear at large negative values of the crystal field and low temperatures. It has been observed that binary alloy system could exhib…
We use zero-temperature Glauber dynamics to study hysteresis in the random-field Ising model on directed random graphs. The critical behavior of the model depends on the connectivity $z$ of the graph rather differently from that on undirected graphs. Directed graphs and zero-temperature dynamics are relevant to a wide class of social phenomena including opinion dynamics. We discuss the efficacy of increasing external influence in inducing a first-order phase transition in opinion dynamics. The numerical results are supported by an analytic solution of the model.
Motivated by recent experimental results reporting giant coercive fields in Co(II)-based molecular magnets we present a theory of hysteresis phenomena based on the Glauber stochastic dynamics. Unusual form of hysteresis loops is similar to those of found in Co-based quasi-one-dimensional ferrimagnet CoPhOMe at low temperatures. Temperature dependence of the coercive field has a characteristic form with an inflection that may serve as an indicator of the Glauber dynamics in real compounds. A relevance of the model for other Co-based molecular magnets is discussed.
We present an exact treatment of the hysteresis behavior of the zero-temperature random-field Ising model on a Bethe lattice when it is driven by an external field and evolved according to a 2-spin-flip dynamics. We focus on lattice connectivities z=2 (the one-dimensional chain) and z=3. For the latter case, we demonstrate the existence of an out-of-equilibrium phase transition, in contrast with the situation found with the standard 1-spin-flip dynamics. We discuss the influence of the degree of cooperativity of the (local) spin dynamics of the nonequilibrium response on the system.
The thermodynamic and magnetic properties of the mixed spin (1/2-1) hexagonal Ising nanowire (HIN) system with core-shell structure have been presented by means of the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. The effects of the physical parameters of the system on thermodynmaic and magnetic properties (magnetizations, susceptibilities, internal energies, and free energies and hysteresis curves) are investigated for both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic case, in detail. One can find that when the temperature increases the hysteresis loop areas decrease and the hysteresis loops disappe…
We study hysteresis in the random-field Ising model with an asymmetric distribution of quenched fields, in the limit of low disorder in two and three dimensions. We relate the spin flip process to bootstrap percolation, and show that the characteristic length for self-averaging $L^*$ increases as $exp(exp (J/Δ))$ in 2d, and as $exp(exp(exp(J/Δ)))$ in 3d, for disorder strength $Δ$ much less than the exchange coupling J. For system size $1 << L < L^*$, the coercive field $h_{coer}$ varies as $2J - Δ\ln \ln L$ for the square lattice, and as $2J - Δ\ln \ln \ln L$ on the cubic lattice. Its limiting…
We investigate the dissipative loss in the $\pm J$ Ising spin glass in three dimensions through the scaling of the hysteresis area, for a maximum magnetic field that is equal to the saturation field. We perform a systematic analysis for the whole range of the bond randomness as a function of the sweep rate, by means of frustration-preserving hard-spin mean field theory. Data collapse within the entirety of the spin-glass phase driven adiabatically (i.e., infinitely-slow field variation) is found, revealing a power-law scaling of the hysteresis area as a function of the antiferromagnetic bond f…
Hysteresis loops are obtained in the Ising spin-glass phase in d=3, using frustration-conserving hard-spin mean-field theory. The system is driven by a time-dependent random magnetic field H_Q that is conjugate to the spin-glass order Q, yielding a field-driven first-order phase transition through the spin-glass phase. The hysteresis loop area A of the Q-H_Q curve scales with respect to the sweep rate h of magnetic field as A-A_0 = h^b. In the spin-glass and random-bond ferromagnetic phases, the sweep-rate scaling exponent b changes with temperature T, but appears not to change with antiferrom…
We briefly introduce hysteresis in spatially extended systems and the dynamic phase transition observed as the frequency of the oscillating field increases beyond a critical value. Hysteresis and the decay of metastable phases are closely related phenomena, and a dynamic phase transition can occur only for field amplitudes, temperatures, and system sizes at which the metastable phase decays through nucleation and growth of many droplets. We present preliminary results from extensive Monte Carlo simulations of a two-dimensional kinetic Ising model in a square-wave oscillating field and estimate…
We modify the kinetic Ising model with Metropolis dynamics, allowing each spin to interact only with $q$ spins randomly chosen from the whole system, which corresponds to the topology of a complete graph. We show that the model with $q \ge 3$ exhibits a phase transition between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases at temperature $T^*$, which linearly increases with $q$. Moreover, we show that for $q=3$ the phase transition is continuous and discontinuous for larger values of $q$. For $q>3$ the hysteresis exhibits oscillatory behavior -- expanding for even values of $q$ and shrinking for odd v…
We present a modified two-dimensional random field Ising model, where a dipolar interaction term is added to the classic random field Hamiltonian. In a similar model it was already verified that the system state can exhibit domains in the form of stripe patterns, typical of thin materials with strong perpendicular anisotropy. In this work we show that the hysteresis loops obtained at zero temperature can display a strict similarity with the loops obtained in thin magnetic materials such as garnet films. In our model the processes of domain nucleation and domain wall motion are well separated i…
The Pair Approximation method is applied to the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg-Ising spin-1/2 bilayer with a simple cubic crystalline structure. The method allows for self-consistent calculations of thermodynamic quantities, based on the determination of Gibbs free-energy. In the paper the phase diagrams and planar magnetizations are calculated for the system in question. Special attention is paid to the case of magnetically non-equivalent planes, one of which is additionally randomly diluted. The occurrence of a compensation phenomenon is found and the compensation temperature is discussed for …
We consider the single-spin-flip dynamics of the random-field Ising model on a Bethe lattice at zero temperature in the presence of a uniform external field. We determine the average magnetization as the external field is varied from minus infinity to plus infinity by setting up the self-consistent field equations, which we show are exact in this case. We find that for a 3-coordinated Bethe lattice, there is no jump discontinuity in magnetization for arbitrarily small gaussian disorder, but the discontinuity is present for larger coordination numbers. We have checked our results by Monte Carlo…
We have studied the nucleation in the nearest neighbour ferromagnetic Ising model, in different (d) dimensions, by extensive Monte Carlo simulation using the heat-bath dynamics. The nucleation time (tau) has been studied as a function of the magnetic field (h) for various system sizes in different dimensions (d=2,3,4). The logarithm of the nucleation time is found to be proportional to the power (-(d-1)) of the magnetic field (h) in d dimensions. The size dependent crossover from coalescence to nucleation regime is observed in all dimensions. The distribution of metastable lifetimes are studie…
The isothermal magnetic entropy change has been obtained for the bilayer system that consists of $S_u$ and $S_l$ valued spins in each layer. The relation between the IMEC and the spin value as well as the value of exchange interaction between two layers have been obtained. Recently experimentally given double peaks behavior for manganite bilayers has been demonstrated theoretically, and explanation is given. On the other hand, the conditions that give rise to transition from this double peak behavior to the single peak behavior have been obtained and discussed.
By means of the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations, the thermodynamic and magnetic quantities such as magnetization, susceptibility, internal energy, free energy, hysteresis curves and compensation behaviors of the spin-1/2 hexagonal Ising nanowire (HIN) system with core/shell structure have been presented. The hysteresis curves are obtained for different values of the system parameters on both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic case. It has been shown that the system only undergoes a second-order phase transition. Moreover, from the thermal variations of the total magnetization, …
In this thesis, we discuss nonequilibrium ferromagnetic random field Ising model (RFIM) with zero temperature Glauber single spin flip dynamics. We briefly review the hysteresis in ferromagnets and Barkhausen effect. We discuss some earlier results on the zero temperature RFIM. We also discuss some of the equilibrium properties of RFIM. We setup the generating function for the avalanche distribution for arbitrary distribution of the quenched random field on a Bethe lattice. We explicitly calculate the probability distribution of avalanches, for the for Bethe lattices with coordination numbers …
Frequency evolutions of hysteresis loop area and hysteresis tools such as remanence and coercivity of a kinetic Ising model in the presence of quenched bond dilution are investigated in detail. The kinetic equation describing the time dependence of the magnetization is derived by means of effective-field theory with single-site correlations. It is found that the frequency dispersions of hysteresis loop area, remanence and coercivity strongly depend on the quenched bond randomness, as well as applied field amplitude and oscillation frequency. In addition, the shape of the hysteresis curves for …
We study a bilayer Ising spin system consisting of antiferromagnetic (AF) and ferromagnetic (FM) triangular planes, coupled by ferromagnetic exchange interaction, by standard Monte Carlo and parallel tempering methods. The AF/FM bilayer is found to display the critical behavior completely different from both the single FM and AF constituents as well as the FM/FM and AF/AF bilayers. Namely, by finite-size scaling (FSS) analysis we identify at the same temperature a standard Ising transition from the paramagnetic to FM state in the FM plane that induces a ferrimagnetic state with a finite net ma…
We study the non-equilibrium behavior of the three-dimensional Gaussian random-field Ising model at T=0 in the presence of a uniform external field using a 2-spin-flip dynamics. The deterministic, history-dependent evolution of the system is compared with the one obtained with the standard 1-spin-flip dynamics used in previous studies of the model. The change in the dynamics yields a significant suppression of coercivity, but the distribution of avalanches (in number and size) stays remarkably similar, except for the largest ones that are responsible for the jump in the saturation magnetizatio…
We study hysteresis for a two-dimensional, spin-1/2, nearest-neighbor, kinetic Ising ferromagnet in an oscillating field, using Monte Carlo simulations and analytical theory. Attention is focused on small systems and weak field amplitudes at a temperature below $T_{c}$. For these restricted parameters, the magnetization switches through random nucleation of a single droplet of spins aligned with the applied field. We analyze the stochastic hysteresis observed in this parameter regime, using time-dependent nucleation theory and the theory of variable-rate Markov processes. The theory enables us…
We studied some magnetic behaviors of Blume-Capel (BC) model in a site diluted triangular lattice by means of the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. The effects of the exchange interaction (J), crystal field (D), concentration (p) and temperature (T) on the magnetic properties of spin-1 BC model in a triangular lattice such as magnetization, susceptibility, phase diagram and hysteresis behaviors are investigated, in detail. The phase diagrams of the system are presented in two different planes. The tricritical point as well as tetracritical and critical end special points are foun…
Magnetic properties of an Ising bilayer system defined on a honeycomb lattice with non-magnetic interlayers which interact via an indirect exchange coupling have been investigated by Monte Carlo simulation technique. Equilibrium properties of the system exhibit ferrimagnetism with $P$-, $N$- and $Q$- type behaviors. Compensation phenomenon suddenly disappears with decreasing strength of indirect ferrimagnetic interlayer exchange coupling. Qualitative properties are in a good agreement with those obtained by effective field theory. In order to investigate the stochastic dynamics of kinetic Isin…
In order to elucidate the relationship between rate-independent hysteresis and metastability in disordered systems driven by an external field, we study the Gaussian RFIM at T=0 on regular random graphs (Bethe lattice) of finite connectivity z and compute to O(1/z) (i.e. beyond mean-field) the quenched complexity associated with the one-spin-flip stable states with magnetization m as a function of the magnetic field H. When the saturation hysteresis loop is smooth in the thermodynamic limit, we find that it coincides with the envelope of the typical metastable states (the quenched complexity v…
Magnetic properties, such as magnetizations, internal energy, specific heat, entropy, Helmholtz free energy and phase diagrams of the spin-3/2 Blume-Capel model on hexagonal Ising nanowire (HIN) with core-shell structure are studied by utilizing the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. Moreover, the hysteresis behaviors of the system are also investigated and the effects of Hamiltonian parameters on hysteresis behaviors are discussed, in detail. Finally, the obtained results are compared with some experimental and theoretical results and a qualitatively good agreement is found.
Low-temperature magnetization curves and thermodynamics of a frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg triangular bilayer with the antiferromagnetic intradimer interaction and either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic interdimer interaction are investigated in a highly frustrated parameter region, where localized many-magnon eigenstates provide the most dominant contribution to magnetothermodynamics. Low-energy states of the highly frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg triangular bilayer can be accordingly found from a mapping correspondence with an effective triangular-lattice spin-1/2 Ising model in a field. …
We present an analytical and numerical study of the Ising model on a bilayer honeycomb lattice including interlayer frustration and coupling with an external magnetic field. First, we discuss the exact $T=0$ phase diagram, where we find finite entropy phases for different magnetisations. Then, we study the magnetic properties of the system at finite temperature using complementary analytical techniques (Bethe lattice), and two types of Monte-Carlo algorithms (Metropolis and Wang-Landau). We characterize the phase transitions and discuss the phase diagrams. The system presents a rich phenomenol…
The dynamic magnetic behaviors of the spin-1 Blume-Capel Ising bilayer system (BCIS) are studied in an oscillating external magnetic field on a two-layer square lattice by utilizing the mean field theory based on Glauber-type stochastic dynamics (DMFT). The dynamic equations describing the time-dependencies of the average magnetizations are obtained with the Master equation. The dynamic phases in this system are found by solving these dynamic equations. The temperature dependence of the dynamic order parameters is examined to characterize the nature (continuous or discontinuous) of the phase t…
We present a simple model that allows hysteresis loops with exchange bias to be reproduced. The model is a modification of the T=0 random field Ising model driven by an external field and with synchronous local relaxation dynamics. The main novelty of the model is that a certain fraction f of the exchange constants between neighbouring spins is enhanced to a very large value J_E. The model allows the dependence of the exchange bias and other properties of the hysteresis loops to be analyzed as a function of the parameters of the model: the fraction f of enhanced bonds, the amount of the enhanc…
We consider a bilayer quantum spin model with anisotropic intra-layer exchange couplings. By varying the anisotropy, the quantum critical phenomena changes from XY to Heisenberg to Ising universality class, with two, three and one modes respectively becoming gapless simultaneously. We use series expansion methods to calculate the second and third Renyi entanglement entropies when the system is bipartitioned into two parts. Leading area-law terms and subleading entropies associated with corners are separately calculated. We find clear evidence that the logarithmic singularity associated with th…
We study the thermodynamic and magnetic properties of an Ising bilayer ferrimagnet. The system is composed of two interacting non-equivalent planes in which the intralayer couplings are ferromagnetic while the interlayer interactions are antiferromagnetic. Moreover, one of the planes is randomly diluted. The study is carried out within a Monte Carlo approach employing the multiple histogram reweighting method and finite-size scaling tools. The occurrence of a compensation phenomenon is verified and the compensation temperature, as well as the critical temperature for the model, are obtained as…
The random-field Ising model of hysteresis is generalized to dilute magnets and solved on a Bethe lattice. Exact expressions for the major and minor hysteresis loops are obtained. In the strongly dilute limit the model provides a simple and useful understanding of the shapes of hysteresis loops in magnetic rock samples.
We investigate the static and dynamic critical behaviour of a uniformly driven bilayer Ising lattice gas at half filling. Depending on the strength of the interlayer coupling J, phase separation occurs across or within the two layers. The former transitions are controlled by the universality class of model A (corresponding to an Ising model with Glauber dynamics), with upper critical dimension d_c=4. The latter transitions are dominated by the universality class of the standard (single-layer) driven Ising lattice gas, with d_c=5 and a non-classical anisotropy exponent. These two distinct criti…
The Pair Approximation method is applied to studies of the magnetic Ising-Heisenberg bilayer with simple cubic structure and spin $S=1/2$. The method allows to take into account quantum effects related to Heisenberg couplings. In the paper the entropy and magnetic contribution to the specific heat are calculated. A special attention is paid to the case when the planes are magnetically non-equivalent and the interplanar coupling is relatively weak. A double peak structure in the temperature dependence of the specific heat and the entropy change in the external field is found. When the system is…
Dynamical hysteresis is a phenomenon which arises in ferromagnetic systems below the critical temperature as a response to adiabatic variations of the external magnetic field. We study the problem in the context of the mean-field Ising model with Glauber dynamics, proving that for frequencies of the magnetic field oscillations of order $N^{2/3}$, with $N$ the size of the system, the "critical" hysteresis loop becomes random.
We present numerical simulations of avalanches and critical phenomena associated with hysteresis loops, modeled using the zero-temperature random-field Ising model. We study the transition between smooth hysteresis loops and loops with a sharp jump in the magnetization, as the disorder in our model is decreased. In a large region near the critical point, we find scaling and critical phenomena, which are well described by the results of an epsilon expansion about six dimensions. We present the results of simulations in 3, 4, and 5 dimensions, with systems with up to a billion spins (1000^3).
The decay of the hysteresis loop area of the system, which is obeying a site diluted kinetic Ising model, is considered by the disorder parameter using the effective field theory analysis. The exhibition focuses on the understanding of external field frequency, amplitude and the site concentration dependency of the hysteresis loop area for several powerful treatments. Important characteristics of the hysteretic response, such as frequency dispersion, effect of domain nucleation phenomenon on the dynamic process etc. has been introduced together with well known other characteristics. An attempt…
We study hysteresis for a two-dimensional, spin-1/2, nearest-neighbor, kinetic Ising ferromagnet in an oscillating field, using Monte Carlo simulations. The period-averaged magnetization is the order parameter for a proposed dynamic phase transition (DPT). To quantify the nature of this transition, we present the first finite-size scaling study of the DPT for this model. Evidence of a diverging correlation length is given, and we provide estimates of the transition frequency and the critical indices $β$, $γ$ and $ν$.
In this work, Monte Carlo simulation was implemented to study the phase diagrams and magnetic properties of a mixed spin (1-1/2-1) three-layer system with a cubic structure. In particular, the effects of the exchange and coupling parameters on the system compensation temperature were explored. More importantly, the effect of the crystal field on the system compensation, critical temperatures, and magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the system have been explored in detail. The crystal field was found to have a profound impact on the system compensation and critical temperatures. Our result…
