We study the evolution of random hypermagnetic fields (HMFs) in the symmetric phase of the early universe before the electroweak phase transition. The behavior of HMFs is driven by the analog of the chiral magnetic effect accounting for the asymmetries of leptons and Higgs bosons. These asymmetries are also dynamical variables of the model and evolve together with HMFs. Moreover, we account for the contribution of the hyper-MHD turbulence in the effective diffusion coefficient and the $α$-dynamo parameter. The realistic spectrum of seed HMFs consists of two branches: Batchelor and Kolmogorov ones. The impact of HMFs on the production of relic gravitational waves (GWs) and the baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU), as well as flavor oscillations of supernova neutrinos in the stochastic GWs generated, are considered. We establish the constraint on the strength of the seed HMF comparing the spectral density of produced GWs with the observations of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaborations. The stronger upper bound on the seed HMF is obtained from the condition of not exceeding the observed value of BAU.
We study hypermagnetic helicity and lepton asymmetry evolution in plasma of the early Universe before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) accounting for chirality flip processes via inverse Higgs decays and sphaleron transitions which violate the left lepton number and wash out the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU). In the scenario where the right electron asymmetry supports the BAU alone through the conservation law $B/3 - L_{eR}=const$ at temperatures $T>T_{RL}\simeq 10 TeV$ the following universe cooling leads to the production of a non-zero left lepton (electrons and neutrinos) as…
We investigate the evolution of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) in its symmetric phase before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) induced by leptogenesis in the hypermagnetic field of an arbitrary structure and with a maximum hypermagnetic helicity density. The novelty of this work is that the BAU has been calculated for a continuous hypermagnetic helicity spectrum. The observed BAU $B_{obs} = 10^{-10}$ that can be in large-scale hypermagnetic fields satisfying the wave number inequality $k \leq k_{max}$ grows with increasing $k_{max}$. We will also show that the initial right-h…
We study baryon asymmetry generation originated from the leptogenesis in the presence of hypermagnetic fields in the early Universe plasma before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT). For the simplest Chern-Simons (CS) wave configuration of hypermagnetic field we find the baryon asymmetry growth when the hypermagnetic field value changes due to alpha^2-dynamo and the lepton asymmetry rises due to the Abelian anomaly. We solve the corresponding integro-differential equations for the lepton asymmetries describing such self-consistent dynamics for lepto- and baryogenesis in the two scenarios :…

We show that maximally helical hypermagnetic fields produced during pseudoscalar inflation can generate the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe via the B+L anomaly in the Standard Model. We find that most of the parameter space of pseudoscalar inflation that explains the cosmological data leads to baryon overproduction, hence the models of natural inflation are severely constrained. We also point out a connection between the baryon number and topology of the relic magnetic fields. Both the magnitude and sign of magnetic helicity can be detected in future diffuse gamma ray data. This will…
It has been considered that baryogenesis models without a generation of $B$-$L$ asymmetry such as the GUT baryogenesis do not work since the asymmetry is washed out by the electroweak sphalerons. Here, we point out that helical hypermagnetic fields can be generated through the chiral magnetic effect with a chiral asymmetry generated in such baryogenesis models. The helical hypermagnetic fields then produce baryon asymmetry mainly at the electroweak symmetry breaking, which remains until today. Therefore, the baryogenesis models without $B$-$L$ asymmetry can still be the origin of the present b…
We study a matter turbulence caused by strong random hypermagnetic fields (HMFs ) that influence the baryon asymmetry evolution due to the Abelian anomalies in the symmetric phase in the early Universe. Such a matter turbulence is stipulated by the presence of the advection term in the induction equation for which a fluid velocity is dominated by the Lorentz force in the Navier-Stokes equation. For random HMFs, having nonzero mean squared strengths, we calculate the spectra for the HMF energy and the HMF helicity densities. The latter function governs the evolution of the fermion asymmetries i…
We investigate the production of the hypermagnetic gyrotropy when the electric and magnetic gauge couplings evolve at different rates, as it happens in the the relativistic theory of the Van der Waals forces. If a pseudo-scalar interaction breaks the duality symmetry of the corresponding equations, the gyrotropic configurations of the hypermagnetic fields can be amplified from the vacuum during an inflationary stage of expansion. After charting the parameter space of the model in terms of the rates of evolution of the magnetic and electric gauge couplings, we identify the regions where the gyr…
We study lepton asymmetry evolution in plasma of the early Universe before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) accounting for chirality flip processes via Higgs decays (inverse decays) entering equilibrium at temperatures below T_RL ~ 10 TeV, T_EW < T < T_RL. We solve appropriate kinetic equations for leptons and Higgs bosons taking into account the lepton number violation due to Abelian anomalies for right and left electrons and neutrinos in the self-consistent hypercharge field obeying Maxwell equations modified by the contribution of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. The v…
Recent gamma-ray observations of TeV blazars exhibits the deficits of the secondary GeV cascade photons. This suggests the existence of the intergalactic magnetic fields, which may have a primordial origin. One of the mechanisms that can produce primordial magnetic fields is so-called the chiral plasma instability, where the (hyper) magnetic fields are destabilized when a large chiral asymmetry exists in the high-temperature plasma in the early Universe. We argue that such a large chiral asymmetry can be produced through the GUT baryogenesis. Note that the chiral asymmetry is a good conserved …
It has been pointed out that hypermagnetic helicity decay at the electroweak symmetry breaking may have produced the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the chiral anomaly in the standard model of particle physics. Although fully helical magnetic field that can adequately produce the observed baryon asymmetry is not strong enough to explain the origin of the intergalactic magnetic field inferred by the Fermi satellite, the mixture of helical and nonhelical primordial magnetic fields may explain both baryogenesis and the intergalactic magnetic fields simultaneously. We first show …
We study the production of relic gravitational waves (GWs) in turbulent hypermagnetic fields (HMFs) in the symmetric phase of the early universe before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT). The noise of HMFs is modeled by the analog of the magnetic hydrodynamics turbulence. The evolution of HMFs is driven by the analogs of the chiral magnetic effect and the Adler anomalies in the presence of the nonzero asymmetries of leptons and Higgs bosons. We track the evolution of the energy density of GWs from 10 TeV down to EWPT and analyze its dependence on the parameters of the system. We also disc…
The maximally gyrotropic configurations of the hypermagnetic field at the electroweak epoch can induce a stochastic background of relic gravitational waves with comoving frequencies ranging from the $μ$Hz to the kHz. Using two complementary approaches we construct a physical template family for the emission of the gravitational radiation produced by the hypermagnetic knots. The current constraints and the presumed sensitivities of the advanced wide-band interferometers (both terrestrial and space-borne) are combined to infer that the lack of observations at intermediate frequencies may invalid…
We study simultaneous evolution of large scale hypermagnetic fields and the asymmetries of quarks, leptons and Higgs boson in the temperature range from 10TeV to 100GeV. Above 10TeV, we identify all of the major fast interactions and use the associated conservation laws as constraints on the initial conditions at 10TeV. Below 10TeV, we identify the major processes which fall out of equilibrium or emerge as non-negligible processes and derive the relevant evolution equations. These include the Abelian anomalies which violate fermion numbers, direct and inverse Higgs decays that change the chira…
As a result of the Standard Model chiral anomalies, baryon number is violated in the early universe in the presence of a hypermagnetic field with varying helicity. We investigate whether the matter / anti-matter asymmetry of the universe can be created from the decaying helicity of a primordial (hyper)magnetic field before and after the electroweak phase transition. In this model, baryogenesis occurs without $(B-L)$-violation, since the $(B+L)$ asymmetry generated by the hypermagnetic field counteracts the washout by electroweak sphalerons. At the electroweak crossover, the hypermagnetic field…
We elaborate upon the model of baryogenesis from decaying magnetic helicity by focusing on the evolution of the baryon number and magnetic field through the Standard Model electroweak crossover. The baryon asymmetry is determined by a competition between the helical hypermagnetic field, which sources baryon number, and the electroweak sphaleron, which tends to wash out baryon number. At the electroweak crossover both of these processes become inactive; the hypermagnetic field is converted into an electromagnetic field, which does not source baryon number, and the weak gauge boson masses grow, …
A tiny hypermagnetic field generated before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) associated to the generation of elementary particle masses can polarize the early Universe hot plasma at huge redshifts z > 10^15. The anomalous violation of the right-handed electron current characteristic of the EWPT converts the lepton asymmetry into a baryon asymmetry. Under reasonable approximations, the magnetic field strength inferred by requiring such "leptogenic" origin for the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe matches the large-scale cosmological magnetic field strengths estimated from current…
The parity violating Chern-Simons term in the epoch before the electroweak phase transition can be interpreted as a polarization effect associated to massless right-handed electrons (positrons) in the presence of a large-scale seed hypermagnetic field. We reconfirm the viability of a unified seed field scenario relating the cosmological baryon asymmetry and the origin of the protogalactic large-scale magnetic fields observed in astronomy.
We investigate the relic abundance of asymmetric Dark Matter particles that were in thermal equilibrium in the early universe. The standard analytic calculation of the symmetric Dark Matter is generalized to the asymmetric case. We calculate the asymmetry required to explain the observed Dark Matter relic abundance as a function of the annihilation cross section. We show that introducing an asymmetry always reduces the indirect detection signal from WIMP annihilation, although it has a larger annihilation cross section than symmetric Dark Matter. This opens new possibilities for the constructi…
Helical hypermagnetic fields in the primordial Universe can produce the observed amount of baryon asymmetry through the chiral anomaly without any ingredients beyond the standard model of particle physics. While they generate no $B-L$ asymmetry, the generated baryon asymmetry survives the spharelon washout effect, because the generating process remains active until the electroweak phase transition. Solving the Boltzmann equation numerically and finding an attractor solution, we show that the baryon asymmetry of our Universe can be explained, if the present large-scale magnetic fields indicated…
We investigate how large lepton asymmetries affect the evolution of the early universe at times before big bang nucleosynthesis and in particular how they influence the relic density of WIMP dark matter. In comparison to the standard calculation of the relic WIMP abundance we find a decrease, depending on the lepton flavour asymmetry. We find an effect of up to 20 per cent for lepton flavour asymmetries $l_f= {\cal O}(0.1)$.
In models of inflation driven by an axion-like pseudoscalar field, the inflaton, a, may couple to the standard model hypercharge via a Chern-Simons-type interaction, $L \subset a/(4Λ) F\tilde{F}$. This coupling results in explosive gauge field production during inflation, especially at its last stage, which has interesting phenomenological consequences: For one thing, the primordial hypermagnetic field is maximally helical. It is thus capable of sourcing the generation of nonzero baryon number, via the standard model chiral anomaly, around the time of electroweak symmetry breaking. For another…
The neutrino asymmetry in the early universe plasma, $n_ν- n_{\bar ν}$, is calculated both before and after the electroweak phase transition (EWPT). The leptogenesis before EWPT within the standard model is well known to be driven by the abelian anomaly in a massless hypercharge field. The generation of the neutrino asymmetry in the Higgs phase after EWPT, in its turn, has not been considered previously because of the absence of any quantum anomaly in an external electromagnetic field for such electroneutral particles as neutrino, unlike the Adler anomaly for charged left and right polarized m…
The production of the hypermagnetic gyrotropy is investigated under the assumption that the gauge coupling smoothly evolves during a quasi-de Sitter phase and then flattens out in the radiation epoch by always remaining perturbative. In the plane defined by the strength of the anomalous interactions and by the rate of evolution of the gauge coupling the actual weight of the pseudoscalar interactions turns out to be always rather modest if major deviations from the homogeneity are to be avoided during the inflationary phase. Even if the gauge power spectra are related by duality only in the abs…

Pure singlets are typically disfavored as dark matter candidates, since they generically have a thermal relic abundance larger than the observed value. In this paper, we propose a new dark matter mechanism called "assimilation", which takes advantage of the baryon asymmetry of the universe to generate the correct relic abundance of singlet dark matter. Through assimilation, dark matter itself is efficiently destroyed, but dark matter number is stored in new quasi-stable heavy states which carry the baryon asymmetry. The subsequent annihilation and late-time decay of these heavy states yields (…
The observed density of dark matter is of the magnitude expected for a thermal relic weakly-interacting massive particle (WIMP). In addition, the observed baryon density is within an order of magnitude of the dark matter density. This suggests that the baryon density is physically related to a typical thermal relic WIMP dark matter density. We present a model which simultaneously generates thermal relic WIMP-like densities for both baryons and dark matter by modifying a large initial baryon asymmetry. Dark matter is due to O(100) GeV gauge singlet scalars produced in the annihilation of the O(…

Assuming the existence of a primordial asymmetry in the dark sector, a scenario usually dubbed Asymmetric Dark Matter (aDM), we study the effect of oscillations between dark matter and its antiparticle on the re-equilibration of the initial asymmetry before freeze-out, which enable efficient annihilations to recouple. We calculate the evolution of the DM relic abundance and show how oscillations re-open the parameter space of aDM models, in particular in the direction of allowing large (WIMP-scale) DM masses. A typical wimp with a mass at the EW scale (\sim 100 GeV - 1 TeV) presenting a primor…
We study the mechanism of generation of 7 keV sterile neutrino Dark Matter (DM) in the model with light inflaton $χ$, which serves as a messenger of scale invariance breaking. In this model the inflaton, in addition to providing reheating to the Standard Model (SM) particles, decays directly into sterile neutrinos. The latter are responsible for the active neutrino oscillations via seesaw type I like formula. While the two sterile neutrinos may also produce the lepton asymmetry in the primordial plasma and hence explain the baryon asymmetry of the Universe, the third one being the lightest may…
Sufficiently light primordial black holes (PBH) could evaporate in the very early universe and dilute the preexisting baryon asymmetry and/or the frozen density of stable relics. The effect is especially strong in the case that PBHs decayed if and when they dominated the cosmological energy density. The size of the reduction is first calculated analytically under the simplifying assumption of the delta-function mass spectrum of PBH and in instant decay approximation. In the realistic case of exponential decay and for an extended mass spectrum of PBH the calculations are made numerically. Resul…
We show that both the baryon asymmetry of the Universe and the dark matter abundance can be explained within a single framework that makes use of maximally helical hypermagnetic fields produced during pseudoscalar inflation and the chiral anomaly in the Standard Model. We consider a minimal asymmetric dark matter model free from anomalies and constraints. We find that the observed baryon and the dark matter abundances are achieved for a wide range of inflationary parameters, and the dark matter mass ranges between 7-15 GeV. The novelty of our mechanism stems from the fact that the same source …
We investigate the possibility that the dark matter abundance is sourced by the baryon/lepton asymmetry of the early Universe. It turns out that a Goldstone field of a local classically preserved symmetry in the Standard Model experiences a kick during a period of baryon/lepton number generation. This mechanism can be regarded as dynamical generation of initial conditions for misalignment yet the prediction for relic abundance presents an inverse dependence on the coupling in parallel with freeze-in vs freeze-out. We explore two realizations of this mechanism and show that in conjunction with …
The Hot Big Bang model predicts the existence of a \emph{cosmic neutrino background}. The number of particles and anti-particles in this primordial bath of neutrinos can be different -- a memory of processes that took place at very early epochs. If neutrinos were massless, this asymmetry would not change once neutrinos froze out. However, in the case of massive particles, the asymmetry is not protected by conservation laws and can get erased via helicity-flipping scatterings off matter inhomogeneities. We evaluate this helicity-flipping rate and demonstrate that if relic lepton asymmetry ever …
A ~5 GeV `dark baryon' with a cosmic asymmetry similar to that of baryons is a natural candidate for the dark matter. We study the possibility of generating such a state through dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, and show that it can share the relic baryon asymmetry via sphaleron interactions, even though it has no electroweak interactions. The scattering cross-section on nucleons, estimated in analogy to QCD, is within reach of underground direct detection experiments.
We study the possibility of generating tiny Dirac neutrino masses at one loop level through the \textit{scotogenic} mechanism such that one of the particles going inside the loop can be a stable cold dark matter (DM) candidate. Majorana mass terms of singlet fermions as well as tree level Dirac neutrino masses are prevented by incorporating the presence of additional discrete symmetries in a minimal fashion, which also guarantee the stability of the dark matter candidate. Due to the absence of total lepton number violation, the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe is generated through the…
While the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is nowadays well measured by cosmological observations, the bounds on the lepton asymmetry in the form of neutrinos are still significantly weaker. We place limits on the relic neutrino asymmetries using some of the latest cosmological data, taking into account the effect of flavor oscillations. We present our results for two different values of the neutrino mixing angle θ_{13}, and show that for large θ_{13} the limits on the total neutrino asymmetry become more stringent, diluting even large initial flavor asymmetries. In particular, we find that th…

We propose a new framework for explaining the proximity of the baryon and dark matter relic densities Ω_{DM} \approx 5Ω_B. The scenario assumes that the number density of the observed dark matter states is generated due to decays from a second hidden sector which simultaneously generates the baryon asymmetry. In contrast to asymmetric dark matter models, the dark matter can be a real scalar or Majorana fermion and thus presents distinct phenomenology. We discuss aspects of model building and general constraints in this framework. We present a simple supersymmetric implementation of this mechan…
We study the possibility of generating baryon asymmetry of the universe from dark matter (DM) annihilations during non-standard cosmological epochs. Considering the DM to be of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) type, the generation of baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis route is studied where WIMP DM annihilation produces a non-zero lepton asymmetry. Adopting a minimal particle physics model to realise this along with non-zero light neutrino masses, we consider three different types of non-standard cosmic history namely, (i) fast expanding universe, (ii) early matter domination and (iii…
A novel mechanism, "catalyzed baryogenesis," is proposed to explain the observed baryon asymmetry in our universe. In this mechanism, the motion of a ball-like catalyst provides the necessary out-of-equilibrium condition, its outer wall has CP-violating interactions with the Standard Model particles, and its interior has baryon number violating interactions. We use the electroweak-symmetric ball model as an example of such a catalyst. In this model, electroweak sphalerons inside the ball are active and convert baryons into leptons. The observed baryon number asymmetry can be produced for a lig…
The total lepton asymmetry $l=\sum_f l_f$ in our universe is only poorly constrained by theories and experiments. It might be orders of magnitudes larger than the observed baryon asymmetry $b\simeq {\cal O}(10^{-10})$, $|l|/b \leq {\cal O}(10^{9})$. We found that the dynamics of the cosmic QCD transition changes for large asymmetries. Predictions for asymmetries in a single flavour $l_f$ allow even larger values. We find that asymmetries of $l_f\leq {\cal O}(1)$ in a single or two flavours change the relic abundance of WIMPs. However, large lepton and large individual lepton flavour asymmetrie…
In this Letter, we propose a new possible connection between dark matter relic density and baryon asymmetry of the universe. The portal between standard model sector and dark matter not only controls the relic density and detections of dark matter, but also allows the dark matter to trigger the first order electroweak phase transition. We discuss systematically possible scalar dark matter candidates, starting from a real singlet to arbitrary high representations. We show that the simplest realization is provided by a doublet, and that strong first-order electroweak phase transition implies a l…
We construct a new realization of type-II seesaw for neutrino masses and baryon asymmetry by extending the standard model with one light and two heavy singlet scalars besides one Higgs triplet. The heavy singlets pick up small vacuum expectation values to give a suppressed trilinear coupling between the triplet and doublet Higgs bosons after the light singlet drives the spontaneous breaking of lepton number. The Higgs triplet can thus remain light and be accessible at the LHC. The lepton number conserving decays of the heavy singlets can generate a lepton asymmetry stored in the Higgs triplet …
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model with two singlet scalar fields and three heavy right-handed neutrinos. One of the scalar fields serves as an MeV scale dark matter and its stability is ensured by the introduction of an extra $Z_2$ symmetry. The second scalar (which is even under the $Z_2$ symmetry) generates the mass term of the scalar, contributes to the $3 \rightarrow 2$ annihilation process required for the correct relic density of the dark matter and it also contributes to the leptogenesis. The right-handed neutrinos are responsible for the generation of light neutrino …
We propose a scenario that the Electroweak-Skyrmion, a solitonic object made of the Higgs field and the electroweak gauge fields, is identified as an asymmetric dark matter. In this scenario, the relic abundance of the dark matter is related to the baryon asymmetry of the Universe through a sphaleron-like process. We show that the observed ratio of dark matter abundance to the baryon asymmetry can be explained by this scenario with an appropriate choice of model parameters that is allowed by currently available experimental constraints.
We study a scenario in which the baryon asymmetry is created through Hawking radiation from primordial black holes via a dynamically-generated chemical potential. This mechanism can also be used to generate the observed dark matter abundance, regardless of whether or not the black holes fully evaporate. In the case that evaporation ceases, the observed dark matter abundance is generically comprised of both relic black holes and an asymmetric dark matter component. We show that this two-component dark matter scenario can simultaneously account for the observed baryon asymmetry and the cosmologi…
We propose a new mechanism where asymmetric dark matter (ADM) and the baryon asymmetry are both generated in the same decay chain of a metastable weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) after its thermal freeze-out. Dark matter and baryons are connected by a generalized baryon number that is conserved, while the DM asymmetry and baryon asymmetry compensate each other. This unified framework addresses the DM-baryon coincidence while inheriting the merit of the conventional WIMP miracle in predicting relic abundances of matter. Examples of renormalizable models realizing this scenario are pre…
