We study baryon asymmetry generation originated from the leptogenesis in the presence of hypermagnetic fields in the early Universe plasma before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT). For the simplest Chern-Simons (CS) wave configuration of hypermagnetic field we find the baryon asymmetry growth when the hypermagnetic field value changes due to alpha^2-dynamo and the lepton asymmetry rises due to the Abelian anomaly. We solve the corresponding integro-differential equations for the lepton asymmetries describing such self-consistent dynamics for lepto- and baryogenesis in the two scenarios : (i) when a primordial lepton asymmetry sits in right electrons e_R; and (ii) when, in addition to e_R, a left lepton asymmetry for e_L and nu_eL arises due to chirality flip reactions provided by inverse Higgs decays at the temperatures, T<T_RL ~ 10 TeV. We find that the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) rises very fast through such leptogenesis, especially, in strong hypermagnetic fields. Varying (decreasing) the CS wave number parameter k_0 < 10^-7 T_EW one can recover the observable value of BAU, eta_B ~ 10^-9, where k_0 = 10^-7 T_EW corresponds to the maximum value for CS wave number surviving ohmic dissipation of hypermagnetic field. In the scenario (ii) one predicts the essential difference of the lepton numbers of right - and left electrons at EWPT time, L_eR - L_eL ~ (mu_eR - mu_eL) / T_EW = Delta mu / T_EW ~ 10^-5 that can be used as an initial condition for chiral asymmetry after EWPT.
We investigate the evolution of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) in its symmetric phase before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) induced by leptogenesis in the hypermagnetic field of an arbitrary structure and with a maximum hypermagnetic helicity density. The novelty of this work is that the BAU has been calculated for a continuous hypermagnetic helicity spectrum. The observed BAU $B_{obs} = 10^{-10}$ that can be in large-scale hypermagnetic fields satisfying the wave number inequality $k \leq k_{max}$ grows with increasing $k_{max}$. We will also show that the initial right-h…
We study hypermagnetic helicity and lepton asymmetry evolution in plasma of the early Universe before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) accounting for chirality flip processes via inverse Higgs decays and sphaleron transitions which violate the left lepton number and wash out the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU). In the scenario where the right electron asymmetry supports the BAU alone through the conservation law $B/3 - L_{eR}=const$ at temperatures $T>T_{RL}\simeq 10 TeV$ the following universe cooling leads to the production of a non-zero left lepton (electrons and neutrinos) as…

We show that maximally helical hypermagnetic fields produced during pseudoscalar inflation can generate the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe via the B+L anomaly in the Standard Model. We find that most of the parameter space of pseudoscalar inflation that explains the cosmological data leads to baryon overproduction, hence the models of natural inflation are severely constrained. We also point out a connection between the baryon number and topology of the relic magnetic fields. Both the magnitude and sign of magnetic helicity can be detected in future diffuse gamma ray data. This will…
It has been considered that baryogenesis models without a generation of $B$-$L$ asymmetry such as the GUT baryogenesis do not work since the asymmetry is washed out by the electroweak sphalerons. Here, we point out that helical hypermagnetic fields can be generated through the chiral magnetic effect with a chiral asymmetry generated in such baryogenesis models. The helical hypermagnetic fields then produce baryon asymmetry mainly at the electroweak symmetry breaking, which remains until today. Therefore, the baryogenesis models without $B$-$L$ asymmetry can still be the origin of the present b…
We study a matter turbulence caused by strong random hypermagnetic fields (HMFs ) that influence the baryon asymmetry evolution due to the Abelian anomalies in the symmetric phase in the early Universe. Such a matter turbulence is stipulated by the presence of the advection term in the induction equation for which a fluid velocity is dominated by the Lorentz force in the Navier-Stokes equation. For random HMFs, having nonzero mean squared strengths, we calculate the spectra for the HMF energy and the HMF helicity densities. The latter function governs the evolution of the fermion asymmetries i…
In this paper, we study the contribution of the chiral vortical effect, in addition to that of the chiral magnetic effect, to the evolution of the hypermagnetic field and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the symmetric phase of the early Universe in the temperature range 100GeV < T < 10TeV. We choose a fully helical Chern-Simons wave configuration for the velocity and the hypermagnetic vector potential fields. The latter makes the plasma force-free in the absence of viscosity. We show that the most pronounced effect of the chiral vorticity is the production and initial growth of the hypermagn…
We study the evolution of random hypermagnetic fields (HMFs) in the symmetric phase of the early universe before the electroweak phase transition. The behavior of HMFs is driven by the analog of the chiral magnetic effect accounting for the asymmetries of leptons and Higgs bosons. These asymmetries are also dynamical variables of the model and evolve together with HMFs. Moreover, we account for the contribution of the hyper-MHD turbulence in the effective diffusion coefficient and the $α$-dynamo parameter. The realistic spectrum of seed HMFs consists of two branches: Batchelor and Kolmogorov o…
We investigate the production of the hypermagnetic gyrotropy when the electric and magnetic gauge couplings evolve at different rates, as it happens in the the relativistic theory of the Van der Waals forces. If a pseudo-scalar interaction breaks the duality symmetry of the corresponding equations, the gyrotropic configurations of the hypermagnetic fields can be amplified from the vacuum during an inflationary stage of expansion. After charting the parameter space of the model in terms of the rates of evolution of the magnetic and electric gauge couplings, we identify the regions where the gyr…
We study lepton asymmetry evolution in plasma of the early Universe before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) accounting for chirality flip processes via Higgs decays (inverse decays) entering equilibrium at temperatures below T_RL ~ 10 TeV, T_EW < T < T_RL. We solve appropriate kinetic equations for leptons and Higgs bosons taking into account the lepton number violation due to Abelian anomalies for right and left electrons and neutrinos in the self-consistent hypercharge field obeying Maxwell equations modified by the contribution of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. The v…
We study the evolution of the matter-antimatter asymmetry (η), the vorticity, and the hypermagnetic field in the symmetric phase of the early Universe, and in the temperature range 100 GeV < T < 10 TeV. We assume a configuration for the hypermagnetic field which includes both helical and non-helical (Bz) components. Consequently, the hypermagnetic field and the fluid vorticity can directly affect each other, the manifestations of which we explore in three scenarios. In the first scenario, we show that in the presence of a small vorticity and a large ηeR, helicity can be generated and amplified…
The generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) from the hypermagnetic helicity, the physical interpretation of which is given in terms of hypermagnetic knots, is studied in inflationary cosmology, taking into account the breaking of the conformal invariance of hypercharge electromagnetic fields through both a coupling with the dilaton and that with a pseudoscalar field. It is shown that if the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) is strongly first order and the present amplitude of the generated magnetic fields on the horizon scale is sufficiently large, a baryon asymmetry with a …
Recent gamma-ray observations of TeV blazars exhibits the deficits of the secondary GeV cascade photons. This suggests the existence of the intergalactic magnetic fields, which may have a primordial origin. One of the mechanisms that can produce primordial magnetic fields is so-called the chiral plasma instability, where the (hyper) magnetic fields are destabilized when a large chiral asymmetry exists in the high-temperature plasma in the early Universe. We argue that such a large chiral asymmetry can be produced through the GUT baryogenesis. Note that the chiral asymmetry is a good conserved …
In this paper, we study the simultaneous evolution of baryon asymmetry and hypermagnetic field amplitude assuming an early matter domination. We contrast our results to the conventional case where radiation domination during early universe is assumed. We show that the baryon asymmetry and the hypermagntic field amplitude can change by orders of magnitude if we assume a non-standard history of cosmology. That is because the Hubble rate determines which processes are efficient. We find that a change in Hubble rate can have a significant impact on when the weak sphalerons become active. As a resu…
In this paper, we explore the evolution of baryon asymmetry as well as the hypermagnetic field in the early universe with an assumption that the flavon of the Froggatt-Nielsen carries an asymmetry. Through the decay of the flavon to Standard Model fermions, this asymmetry is transferred to fermions, where the right-handed electron keeps its asymmetry while its Yukawa interaction is out of thermal equilibrium. Through the existence of the flavon, we can ensure that the freezing-in temperature of the right-handed electron is closer to the electroweak phase transition than the Standard cosmology …
It has been pointed out that hypermagnetic helicity decay at the electroweak symmetry breaking may have produced the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the chiral anomaly in the standard model of particle physics. Although fully helical magnetic field that can adequately produce the observed baryon asymmetry is not strong enough to explain the origin of the intergalactic magnetic field inferred by the Fermi satellite, the mixture of helical and nonhelical primordial magnetic fields may explain both baryogenesis and the intergalactic magnetic fields simultaneously. We first show …
We study simultaneous evolution of electron, neutrino and quark asymmetries, and large scale hypermagnetic fields in the symmetric phase of the electroweak plasma in the temperature range $100$GeV$\leq T\leq 10$TeV, taking into account the chirality flip processes via inverse Higgs decays and fermion number violation due to Abelian anomalies. We present a derivation of the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term for the hypercharge gauge field, showing that the left-handed and right-handed components of each fermion species contribute with opposite sign. This is in contrast to the results present…
At finite hyperconductivity and finite fermionic density the flux lines of long range hypermagnetic fields may not have a topologically trivial structure. The combined evolution of the chemical potentials and of pseudoscalar fields (like the axial Higgs), possibly present for temperatures in the TeV range, can twist the hypercharge flux lines, producing, ultimately, hypermagnetic knots (HK). The dynamical features of the HK depend upon the various particle physics parameters of the model (pseudoscalar masses and couplings, strength of the electroweak phase transition, hyperconductivity of the …
We study simultaneous evolution of large scale hypermagnetic fields and the asymmetries of quarks, leptons and Higgs boson in the temperature range from 10TeV to 100GeV. Above 10TeV, we identify all of the major fast interactions and use the associated conservation laws as constraints on the initial conditions at 10TeV. Below 10TeV, we identify the major processes which fall out of equilibrium or emerge as non-negligible processes and derive the relevant evolution equations. These include the Abelian anomalies which violate fermion numbers, direct and inverse Higgs decays that change the chira…
In this paper, we study the significance of the U$_\textrm{Y}$(1) Chern-Simons term in general, and its baryonic contribution in particular, for the evolution of the matter asymmetries and the hypermagnetic field in the temperature range $100$GeV$\leq T \leq 10$TeV. We show that an initial helical hypermagnetic field, denoted by $B_Y^{(0)}$, can grow matter asymmetries from zero initial value. However, the growth which is initially quadratic with respect to $B_Y^{(0)}$, saturates for values larger than a critical value. The inclusion of the baryonic contribution reduces this critical value, le…
CP violation and the violation of baryon-minus-lepton number B-L do not necessarily have to occur simultaneously in order to accomplish successful leptogenesis. Instead, it suffices if new CP-violating interactions at high energies result in primordial charge asymmetries, which are then reprocessed into a nonvanishing B-L asymmetry by right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) at lower energies. In this paper, we study this novel mechanism known as "wash-in leptogenesis", utilizing axion inflation as the source of high-scale CP violation. We specifically consider axion inflation coupled to the Standard Mod…
As a result of the Standard Model chiral anomalies, baryon number is violated in the early universe in the presence of a hypermagnetic field with varying helicity. We investigate whether the matter / anti-matter asymmetry of the universe can be created from the decaying helicity of a primordial (hyper)magnetic field before and after the electroweak phase transition. In this model, baryogenesis occurs without $(B-L)$-violation, since the $(B+L)$ asymmetry generated by the hypermagnetic field counteracts the washout by electroweak sphalerons. At the electroweak crossover, the hypermagnetic field…
We consider the generation of the baryon asymmetry in models with right-handed neutrinos produced through gravitational scattering of the inflaton during reheating. The right-handed neutrinos later decay and generate a lepton asymmetry, which is partially converted to a baryon asymmetry by Standard Model sphaleron processes. We find that a sufficient asymmetry can be generated for a wide range of right-handed neutrino masses and reheating temperatures. We also show that the same type of gravitational scattering produces Standard Model Higgs bosons, which can achieve inflationary reheating cons…
We show that in the presence of large scale primordial hypermagnetic fields, it is possible to generate a large amount of CP violation to explain the baryon to entropy ratio during the electroweak phase transition within the standard model. The mechanism responsible for the existence of a CP violating asymmetry is the chiral nature of the fermion coupling to the background field in the symmetric phase which can be used to construct two-fermion interference processes in analogy to the Bohm-Aharanov effect. We estimate that for strong hypermagnetic fields B_Y=(0.3-0.5)T^2 the baryon to entropy r…
We elaborate upon the model of baryogenesis from decaying magnetic helicity by focusing on the evolution of the baryon number and magnetic field through the Standard Model electroweak crossover. The baryon asymmetry is determined by a competition between the helical hypermagnetic field, which sources baryon number, and the electroweak sphaleron, which tends to wash out baryon number. At the electroweak crossover both of these processes become inactive; the hypermagnetic field is converted into an electromagnetic field, which does not source baryon number, and the weak gauge boson masses grow, …
We discuss the non-thermal leptogenesis in the scheme of 5D orbifold SO(10) GUT with the smooth hybrid inflation. With an unambiguously determined Dirac Yukawa couplings and an assumption for the neutrino mixing matrix of the tri-bimaximal from, we analyze baryon asymmetry of the universe via non-thermal leptogenesis in two typical cases for the light neutrino mass spectrum, the normal and inverted hierarchical cases. The resultant baryon asymmetry is obtained as a function of the lightest mass eigenvalue of the light neutrinos, and we find that a suitable amount of baryon asymmetry of the uni…
We study a new scenario for baryogenesis due to the spontaneous breaking of the $CPT$ invariance through the interaction between a baryon current and a hypermagnetic helicity. The hypermagnetic helicity (Chern-Simons number) of $U(1)_Y$ provides a $CPT$ violation background for the generation of baryons via sphaleron processes, which protects these baryons from the sphaleron wash-out effect in thermal equilibrium. It is shown that if the present amplitude of the resultant magnetic fields are sufficiently large, for a wide range mass scale (from TeV to the Planck scale), the observational magni…
The generation of the right amount of baryon asymmetry $η$ of the Universe from supersymmetric leptogenesis is studied within the type-I seesaw framework with three heavy singlet Majorana neutrinos $N_i\,\,(i = 1,2,3)$ and their superpartners. We assume the occurrence of four zeroes in the neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix $Y_ν$, taken to be $μτ$ symmetric, in the weak basis where $N_i$ (with real masses $M_i>0$) and the charged leptons $l_α\,\, (α= e,μ,τ)$ are mass diagonal. The quadrant of the single nontrivial phase, allowed in the corresponding light neutrino mass matrix $m_ν$, gets fixed an…
We study the scattering of fermions off a finite width kink wall during the electroweak phase transition in the presence of a background hypermagnetic field. We derive and solve the Dirac equation for such fermions and compute the reflection and transmission coefficients for the case when the fermions move from the symmetric to the broken symmetry phase. We show that the chiral nature of the fermion coupling with the background field in the symmetric phase generates an axial asymmetry in the scattering processes. We discuss possible implications of such axial charge segregation for baryon numb…
We study the scattering of fermions off the true vacuum bubbles nucleated during a first order electroweak phase transition in the presence of a background hypermagnetic field. By considering the limit of an infinitely thin bubble wall, we derive and analytically solve the Dirac equation in three spatial dimensions for left and right chirality modes and compute reflection and transmission coefficients for the case when the fermions move from the symmetric toward the broken symmetry phase. Given the chiral nature of the fermion coupling with the background field in the symmetric phase, an axial…
A tiny hypermagnetic field generated before the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) associated to the generation of elementary particle masses can polarize the early Universe hot plasma at huge redshifts z > 10^15. The anomalous violation of the right-handed electron current characteristic of the EWPT converts the lepton asymmetry into a baryon asymmetry. Under reasonable approximations, the magnetic field strength inferred by requiring such "leptogenic" origin for the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe matches the large-scale cosmological magnetic field strengths estimated from current…
Low-scale leptogenesis provides an economic and testable description of the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. In this scenario, the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is reprocessed from the lepton asymmetry by electroweak sphaleron processes. Provided that sphalerons are fast enough to maintain equilibrium, the values of the baryon and lepton asymmetries are related to each other. Usually, this relation is used to find the value of the baryon asymmetry at the time of the sphaleron freeze-out. To put in other words, the formula which is valid only when the sphalerons are fast, is a…
Leptogenesis may be induced by the mixing of extra Higgs doublets with experimentally accessible masses. This mechanism relies on diagrammatic cuts that are kinematically forbidden in the vacuum but contribute at finite temperature. A resonant enhancement of the asymmetry occurs generically provided the dimensionless Yukawa and self-interactions are suppressed compared to those of the Standard Model Higgs field. This is in contrast to typical scenarios of Resonant Leptogenesis, where the asymmetry is enhanced by imposing a degeneracy of singlet neutrino masses.
The framework for soft leptogenesis minimally extended with a DM sector is studied. A heavy singlet neutrino superfield acts as the source for (s)lepton asymmetry and by coupling to the singlet DM superfield it produces a DM particle density through decays. The nature of DM generated is twofold depending on whether the Yukawa and DM couplings are either small or large. With sufficiently small Yukawa and DM couplings DM annihilations into MSSM particles are slow and as a consequence all DM particles form the DM component. The solutions to Boltzmann equations are given and the dependence between…
We describe mixing scalar particles and Majorana fermions using Closed-Time-Path methods. From the Kadanoff-Baym equations, we obtain the charge asymmetry, that is generated from decays and inverse decays of the mixing particles. Within one single formalism, we thereby treat Leptogenesis from oscillations and recover as well the standard results for the asymmetry in Resonant Leptogenesis, which apply when the oscillation frequency is much larger than the decay rate. Analytic solutions for two mixing neutral particles in a constant-temperature background illustrate our results qualitatively. We…
We discuss asymmetric or symmetric dark matter candidate in the supersymmetric Dirac leptogenesis scenario. By introducing a singlet superfield coupling to right-handed neutrinos, the overabundance problem of dark matter can be evaded and various possibilities for dark matter candidate arise. If the singlino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), it becomes naturally asymmetric dark matter. On the other hand, the right-handed sneutrino is a symmetric dark matter candidate whose relic density can be determined by the usual thermal freeze-out process. The conventional neutralino or gravi…
Leptogenesis is a class of scenarios in which the cosmic baryon asymmetry originates from an initial lepton asymmetry generated in the decays of heavy sterile neutrinos in the early Universe. We explain why leptogenesis is an appealing mechanism for baryogenesis. We review its motivations, the basic ingredients, and describe subclasses of effects, like those of lepton flavours, spectator processes, scatterings, finite temperature corrections, the role of the heavier sterile neutrinos and quantum corrections. We then address leptogenesis in supersymmetric scenarios, as well as some other popula…
Leptogenesis in supersymmetric model is discussed comprehensively and in detail. In the first half, we discuss several leptogenesis mechanisms by the decay of heavy right-handed neutrino, which include the standard thermal leptogenesis, leptogenesis via inflaton decay, and leptogenesis from the coherent oscillation of the right-handed sneutrino. In the second half, we perform a detailed analysis on the leptogenesis via the LHu flat direction (Affleck-Dine leptogenesis).
We consider a class of leptogenesis models in which the lepton asymmetry arises from dark matter annihilation processes which violate CP and lepton number. Importantly, a necessary one-loop contribution to the annihilation matrix element arises from absorptive final state interactions. We elucidate the relationship between this one-loop contribution and the CP-violating phase. As we show, the branching fraction for dark matter annihilation to leptons may be small in these models, while still generating the necessary asymmetry.

We study the possibility of generating baryon asymmetry of the universe from dark matter (DM) annihilations during non-standard cosmological epochs. Considering the DM to be of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) type, the generation of baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis route is studied where WIMP DM annihilation produces a non-zero lepton asymmetry. Adopting a minimal particle physics model to realise this along with non-zero light neutrino masses, we consider three different types of non-standard cosmic history namely, (i) fast expanding universe, (ii) early matter domination and (iii…
We show that in the presence of large scale primordial hypermagnetic fields, it is possible to generate an axial asymmetry for a first order electroweak phase transition. This happens during the reflection and transmission of fermions off the true vacuum bubbles, due to the chiral nature of the fermion coupling with the background field in the symmetric phase. We derive and solve the Dirac equation for such fermions and compute the reflection and transmission coefficients for the case when these fermions move from the symmetric to the symmetry broken phase. We also comment on the possible impl…
The extension of the Standard Model by heavy right-handed neutrinos can simultaneously explain the observed neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe via leptogenesis. If the mass of the heavy neutrinos is below the electroweak scale, they may be found at the LHC, BELLE II, NA62, the proposed SHiP experiment or a future high-energy collider. In this mass range, the baryon asymmetry is generated via CP-violating oscillations of the heavy neutrinos during their production. We study the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe in this scenario fro…
A cosmological pseudoscalar field coupled to hypercharge topological number density can exponentially amplify hyperelectric and hypermagnetic fields while coherently rolling or oscillating, leading to the formation of a time-dependent condensate of topological number density. The topological condensate can be converted, under certain conditions, into baryons in sufficient quantity to explain the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. The amplified hypermagnetic field can perhaps sufficiently strengthen the electroweak phase transition, and by doing so, save any pre-existing baryon number a…
We review the experimental evidence for a net baryon density in cosmology, and the theoretical mechanism for producing it, called leptogenesis, which relies on the creation of a lepton asymmetry at an intermediate step. The naturality of this mechanism and its possible relations with neutrino oscillations are outlined.
Soft leptogenesis is a scenario in which the cosmic baryon asymmetry is produced from a lepton asymmetry generated in the decays of heavy sneutrinos (the partners of the singlet neutrinos of the seesaw) and where the relevant sources of CP violation are the complex phases of soft supersymmetry-breaking terms. We explain the motivations for soft leptogenesis, and review its basic ingredients: the different CP-violating contributions, the crucial role played by thermal corrections, and the enhancement of the efficiency from lepton flavour effects. We also discuss the high temperature regime $T >…
We study the resonantly enhanced CP-asymmetry in the decays of nearly mass-degenerate heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos for which different formulae have been presented in the literature, depending on the method used to calculate it. We consider two different techniques and show that they lead to the same result, thereby reconciling the different approaches.
In the present work we study non-thermal leptogenesis and baryon asymmetry in the universe in different neutrino mass models discussed recently. For each model we obtain a formula relating the reheating temperature after inflation to the inflaton mass. It is shown that all but four cases are excluded and that in the cases which survive the inflaton mass and the reheating temperature after inflation are bounded from below and from above.
We discuss the effects of various processes that can be active during the leptogenesis era, and present the Boltzmann equations that take them into account appropriately. A non-vanishing Higgs number asymmetry is always present, enhancing the washout of the lepton asymmetry. This is the main new effect when leptogenesis takes place at $T>10^{12}$ GeV, reducing the final baryon asymmetry and tightening the leptogenesis bound on the neutrino masses. If leptogenesis occurs at lower temperatures, electroweak sphalerons partially transfer the lepton asymmetry to a baryonic one, while Yukawa interac…
It has been recently shown that the quantum Boltzmann equations may be relevant for the leptogenesis scenario. In particular, they lead to a time-dependent CP asymmetry which depends upon the previous dynamics of the system. This memory effect in the CP asymmetry is particularly important in resonant leptogenesis where the asymmetry is generated by the decays of nearly mass-degenerate right-handed neutrinos. We study the impact of the nontrivial time evolution of the CP asymmetry in resonant leptogenesis, both in the one-flavour case and with flavour effects included. We show that significant …
