Sufficiently light primordial black holes (PBH) could evaporate in the very early universe and dilute the preexisting baryon asymmetry and/or the frozen density of stable relics. The effect is especially strong in the case that PBHs decayed if and when they dominated the cosmological energy density. The size of the reduction is first calculated analytically under the simplifying assumption of the delta-function mass spectrum of PBH and in instant decay approximation. In the realistic case of exponential decay and for an extended mass spectrum of PBH the calculations are made numerically. Resulting reduction of the frozen number density of the supersymmetric relics opens for them a wider window to become viable dark matter candidate.
More than a decade ago we identified a class of VSGRB (T90 < 100 ms) as having unusual properties: (1) galactic position asymmetry, (2) very hard gamma spectrum, (3) possible evidence for galactic origin of these events. We now study the recent Swift data and show that a VSGRB enhancement consistent BATSE and KONUS exists. We estimate that this is now a total 4.5sigma observation. We then study the VSB for evidence of the time structure expected for PBH evaporation. Several of the events show the general time structure expected for PBH evaporation. If correct, then PBH must exist in this galax…
The evaporation of Primordial Black Hole (PBH) via Hawking radiation influences the evolution of Inter Galactic Medium by heating up the latter and consequently affects the 21cm signal originated from the neutral Hydrogen atoms. In this work, we have considered EDGES observational data of 21cm line corresponding to cosmic dawn era to constrain the mass and the abundance of PBHs. In this context, two different PBH mass distributions namely, power law and lognormal mass distributions are considered to estimate the effects of PBH evaporation on the 21cm brightness temperature $T_{21}$. In additio…
Primordial black holes (PBHs) may lose mass by Hawking evaporation. For sufficiently small PBHs, they may lose a large portion of their formation mass by today, or evaporate completely if they form with mass $M<M_\mathrm{crit}\sim5\times10^{14}~\mathrm{g}$. We investigate the effect of this mass loss on extended PBH distributions, showing that the shape of the distribution is significantly changed between formation and today. We reconsider the $γ$-ray constraints on PBH dark matter in the Milky Way center with a correctly `evolved' lognormal distribution, and derive a semi-analytic time-depend…
We discuss the footprint of evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs) on stochastic gravitational waves (GWs) induced by scalar perturbations. We consider the case where PBHs once dominated the Universe but eventually evaporated before the big bang nucleosynthesis. The reheating through the PBH evaporation could end with a sudden change in the equation of state of the Universe compared to the conventional reheating caused by particle decay. We show that this "sudden reheating" by the PBH evaporation enhances the induced GWs, whose amount depends on the length of the PBH-dominated era and th…
Light sub-GeV dark matter (DM) particles in the Milky Way or macroscopic objects such as primordial black holes (PBHs) become attractive DM candidates due to null results of WIMP from direct detection experiments. We explore the possibility in which the present PBHs play as a novel source to produce light boosted DM and confine light PBHs with current and future terrestrial facilities. We study the electron elastic scattering data and obtain the current constraints from Super-Kamiokande and XENON1T on the boosted DM from PBH evaporation. The prospective bounds on the sub-GeV DM-electron scatte…
Fermi balls produced in a cosmological first-order phase transition may collapse to primordial black holes (PBHs) if the fermion dark matter particles that comprise them interact via a sufficiently strong Yukawa force. We show that phase transitions described by a quartic thermal effective potential with vacuum energy, $0.1\lesssim B^{1/4}/{\rm MeV} \lesssim 10^3$, generate PBHs of mass, $10^{-20}\lesssim M_{\rm PBH}/M_\odot \lesssim 10^{-16}$, and gravitational waves from the phase transition (at THEIA/$μ$Ares) can be correlated with an isotropic extragalactic X-ray/$γ$-ray background from PB…
We study how the evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs) can affect the production of dark matter (DM) particles through thermal processes. We consider fermionic DM interacting with Standard Model particles via a spin-1 mediator in the context of a Freeze-Out or Freeze-In mechanism. We show that when PBHs evaporate after dominating the Universe's energy density, PBHs act as a source of DM and continuously inject entropy into the visible sector that can affect the thermal production in three qualitatively different ways. We compute the annihilation cross-sections which account for the inte…
Hawking evaporation of black holes in the early Universe is expected to copiously produce all kinds of particles, regardless of their charges under the Standard Model gauge group. For this reason, any fundamental particle, known or otherwise, could be produced during the black hole lifetime. This certainly includes dark matter (DM) particles. This paper improves upon previous calculations of DM production from primordial black holes (PBH) by consistently including the greybody factors, and by meticulously tracking a system of coupled Boltzmann equations. We show that the initial PBH densities …
Stochastic background of gravitational waves (GW) generated by the interactions between primordial black holes (PBH) in the early universe and by PBH evaporation is considered. If PBHs dominated in the cosmological energy density prior to their evaporation, GWs from the earlier stages (e.g. inflation) would be noticeably diluted. On the other hand, at the PBH dominance period they could form dense clusters where PBH binary formation might be significant. These binaries would be efficient sources of the gravitational waves.
Primordial black holes (PBHs) in the asteroid-mass range $(10^{-17}$--$10^{-12})~M_{\odot}$ almost entirely escape constraints as dark matter candidates. In the early universe, however, the Schwarzschild metric is no longer applicable and we must carefully consider PBH metrics with a proper cosmological embedding. In particular, the Thakurta solution stands out as perhaps the most adequate such solution. Notably, the Thakurta metric contains a time-dependent apparent horizon, proportional to the cosmological scale-factor. We show that this implies the PBHs are hotter than in the standard Schwa…
We investigate the consistency of a scenario in which the baryon asymmetry, dark matters, as well as the cosmic density perturbation are generated simultaneously through the evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs). This scenario can explain the coincidence of the dark matter and the baryon density of the universe, and is free from the isocurvature perturbation problem. We show that this scenario predicts the masses of PBHs, right-handed neutrinos and dark matters, the Hubble scale during inflation, the non-gaussianity and the running of the spectral index. We also discuss the testability …

We investigate the effects of producing dark matter by Hawking evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs) in scenarios that may have a second well-motivated dark matter production mechanism, such as freeze-out, freeze-in, or gravitational production. We show that the interplay between PBHs and the alternative sources of dark matter can give rise to model-independent modifications to the required dark matter abundance from each production mechanism, which in turn affect the prospects for dark matter detection. In particular, we demonstrate that for the freeze-out mechanism, accounting for eva…

We study the possibility of low scale leptogenesis along with dark matter (DM) in the presence of primordial black holes (PBH). For a common setup to study both leptogenesis and DM we consider the minimal scotogenic model which also explains light neutrino mass at radiative level. While PBH in the mass range of $0.1-10^5$ g can, in principle, affect leptogenesis, the required initial PBH fraction usually leads to overproduction of scalar doublet DM whose thermal freeze-out occurs before PBH evaporation. PBH can lead to non-thermal source of leptogenesis as well as dilution of thermally generat…

We propose a new scenario of the baryogenesis from primordial black holes (PBH). Assuming presence of microscopic baryon (or lepton) number violation and a CP violating operator such as $\partial_αF(\mathcal{R_{....}} ) J^α$, where $F(\mathcal{R_{....}})$ is a scalar function of the Riemann tensor, time evolution of an evaporating black hole generates baryonic (leptonic) chemical potential at the horizon; consequently PBH enumerates asymmetric Hawking radiation between baryons (leptons) and anti-baryons (leptons). Though the operator is higher dimensional and largely suppressed by a high mass …
The energy density of relic gravitational waves (GWs) emitted by primordial black holes (PBHs) is calculated. We estimate the intensity of GWs produced at quantum and classical scattering of PBHs, the classical graviton emission from the PBH binaries in the early Universe, and the graviton emission due to PBH evaporation. If nonrelativistic PBHs dominated the cosmological energy density prior to their evaporation, the probability of formation of dense clusters of PBHs and their binaries in such clusters would be significant and the energy density of the generated gravitational waves in the pre…
We present precision calculations of dark radiation in the form of gravitons coming from Hawking evaporation of spinning primordial black holes (PBHs) in the early Universe. Our calculation incorporates a careful treatment of extended spin distributions of a population of PBHs, the PBH reheating temperature, and the number of relativistic degrees of freedom. We compare our precision results with those existing in the literature, and show constraints on PBHs from current bounds on dark radiation from BBN and the CMB, as well as the projected sensitivity of CMB Stage 4 experiments. As an applica…
We explore the interplay between light primordial black holes (PBH) and high-scale baryogenesis, with a particular emphasis on leptogenesis. We first review a generic baryogenesis scenario where a heavy particle, $X$, with mass, $M_X$, produced solely from PBH evaporation decays to generate a baryon asymmetry. We show that the viable parameter space is bounded from above by $M_X \lesssim 10^{17}$ GeV and increases with decreasing $M_X$. We demonstrate that regions of the leptogenesis parameter space where the lightest right-handed neutrino (RHN) mass $M_{N_{1}}\gtrsim 10^{15}\,{\rm GeV}$ and n…
Primordial black holes (PBHs) are a fascinating candidate for being the dark matter, albeit one which has been heavily constrained. This review presents an in depth look at those observational constraints, particularly at their nuances and uncertainties. Despite their varied origins, the standard PBH formation path is assumed to be collapse of perturbations after inflation, which should leave signals visible in the CMB at certain scales. Other constraints come from microlensing surveys, which severely limit PBHs as dark matter in the solar to satellite range, but there are diminishing results …

We estimate the maximum allowed amplitude for the power spectrum of the primordial curvature perturbations, ${\cal P_R}(k)$, on all scales from the absence of any detection signals of sub-solar mass black holes. In particular we analyze the constraints on the PBHs and we focus on the low mass limit where the Hawking radiation is expected to significantly influence the big bang observables, considering also different early cosmic histories. We derive the upper bounds for the variance of density perturbations, $σ(M)$, for any possible reheating temperature as well as for the cosmological scenari…

Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) that form from the collapse of density perturbations are more clustered than the underlying density field. In a previous paper, we showed the constraints that this has on the prospects of PBH dark matter. In this paper we examine another consequence of this clustering: the formation of bound systems of PBHs in the early universe. These would hypothetically be the earliest gravitationally collapsed structures, forming when the universe is still radiation dominated. Depending upon the size and occupation of the clusters, PBH merging occurs before they would have oth…
