We investigate the possibility that the dark matter abundance is sourced by the baryon/lepton asymmetry of the early Universe. It turns out that a Goldstone field of a local classically preserved symmetry in the Standard Model experiences a kick during a period of baryon/lepton number generation. This mechanism can be regarded as dynamical generation of initial conditions for misalignment yet the prediction for relic abundance presents an inverse dependence on the coupling in parallel with freeze-in vs freeze-out. We explore two realizations of this mechanism and show that in conjunction with leptogenesis, it is possible to identify a viable promising region of parameter space for dark matter production with mass 10 MeV - 1 GeV and decay constant f in the range of $10^{10} - 10^{12}$ GeV.
We make a perturbative calculation of neutrino scattering and absorption in hot and dense hyperonic neutron-star matter in the presence of a strong magnetic Field. We calculate that the absorption cross-sections in a fully relativistic mean-field theory. We find that there is a remarkable angular dependence, i.e. the neutrino absorption strength is reduced in a direction parallel to the magnetic Field and enhanced in the opposite direction. This asymmetry in the neutrino absorption is estimated to be as much as 2.2 % of the entire neutrino momentum for an interior magnetic Field of 2 x 10^{17}…
The sterile neutrino mechanisms for natal neutron star kicks are reanalyzed. It is shown that the magnetic field strengths needed for obtaining the observable values of kicks were underestimated essentially. Another mechanism with standard neutrinos is discussed where the outgoing neutrino flux in a supernova explosion with a strong toroidal magnetic field generation causes the field redistribution in "upper" and "lower" hemispheres of the supernova envelope. The resulting magnetic field pressure asymmetry causes the pulsar natal kick.
We address the possibility that CP-violation in $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing may help explain the origin of the cosmic baryon asymmetry. We propose a new baryogenesis mechanism - "Electroweak Beautygenesis" - explicitly showing that these two CP-violating phenomena can be sourced by a common CP-phase. As an illustration, we work in the Two-Higgs-Doublet model. Because the relevant CP-phase is flavor off-diagonal, this mechanism is less severely constrained by null results of electric dipole moment searches than other scenarios. We show how measurements of flavor observables by the D0, CDF, and LHCb c…
Neutron stars (NSs) obtain kicks of typically several 100 km/s at birth. The gravitational tug-boat mechanism can explain these kicks as consequences of asymmetric mass ejection during the supernova (SN) explosion. Support for this hydrodynamic explanation is provided by observations of SN remnants with associated NSs, which confirm the prediction that the bulk of the explosion ejecta, in particular chemical elements between silicon and the iron group, are dominantly expelled in the hemisphere opposite to the direction of the NS kick. Here, we present a large set of two- and three-dimensional …
We have explored an extended seesaw model accommodating a keV sterile neutrino adopting $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. This model provides a natural platform for achieving resonant leptogenesis to account for the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The required lepton asymmetry is sourced by the CP violating decay of the lightest heavy right handed neutrino to Standard Model leptons and Higgs. The presence of the light sterile neutrino in the model brings out an enhancement in the final lepton asymmetry through an additional self-energy contribution. Adopting a proper treatment for all the wash…
In this talk we present a mechanism for leptogenesis which is based on gravity waves produced during inflation. We show that when inflation is driven by a pseudo-scalar field the metric perturbations generated during inflation can become birefringent, therefore giving a non-vanishing contribution to the gravitational triangle anomaly and sourcing lepton anti-lepton asymmetry. As this asymmetry is sourced by the fields which are active during inflation, it is not washed out or diluted by inflation. The amount of matter asymmetry generated in our model can be of realistic size for the parameters…
During the stalled-shock phase of our 3D hydrodynamical core-collapse simulations with energy-dependent, 3-flavor neutrino transport, the lepton-number flux (nue minus antinue) emerges predominantly in one hemisphere. This novel, spherical-symmetry breaking neutrino-hydrodynamical instability is termed LESA for "Lepton-number Emission Self-sustained Asymmetry." While the individual nue and antinue fluxes show a pronounced dipole pattern, the heavy-flavor neutrino fluxes and the overall luminosity are almost spherically symmetric. Initially, LESA seems to develop stochastically from convective …
