For a separable locally compact but not compact metrizable space $X$, let $αX = X \cup \{x_\infty\}$ be the one-point compactification with the point at infinity $x_\infty$. We denote by $EM(X)$ the space consisting of admissible metrics on $X$, which can be extended to an admissible metric on $αX$, endowed with the compact-open topology. Let $ \mathbf{c}_0 \subset (0,1)^\mathbb{N}$ be the space of sequences converging to $0$. In this paper, we shall show that if $X$ is separable, locally connected and locally compact but not compact, and there exists a sequence $\{C_i\}$ of connected sets in $X$ such that for all positive integers $i, j \in \mathbb{N}$ with $|i - j| \leq 1$, $C_i \cap C_j \neq \emptyset$, and for each compact set $K \subset X$, there is a positive integer $i(K) \in \mathbb{N}$ such that for any $i \geq i(K)$, $C_i \subset X \setminus K$, then $EM(X)$ is homeomorphic to $ \mathbf{c}_0$.
For a non-compact metrizable space $X$, let ${\mathcal E}(X)$ be the set of all one-point metrizable extensions of $X$, and when $X$ is locally compact, let ${\mathcal E}_K(X)$ denote the set of all locally compact elements of ${\mathcal E}(X)$ and $λ: {\mathcal E}(X)\rightarrow{\mathcal Z}(βX\backslash X)$ be the order-anti-isomorphism (onto its image) defined in: [HJW] M. Henriksen, L. Janos and R.G. Woods, Properties of one-point completions of a non-compact metrizable space, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolinae 46 (2005), 105-123. By definition $λ(Y)= \bigcap_{n<ω}cl_{βX}(U_n\cap X)\backslash X$…
Let $P$ be a directed set and $X$ a space. A collection $\mathcal{C}$ of subsets of $X$ is \emph{$P$-locally finite} if $\mathcal{C}=\bigcup \{ \mathcal{C}_p : p \in P\}$ where (i) if $p \le p'$ then $\mathcal{C}_p \subseteq \mathcal{C}_{p'}$ and (ii) each $\mathcal{C}_p$ is locally finite. Then $X$ is \emph{$P$-paracompact} if every open cover has a $P$-locally finite open refinement. Further, $X$ is \emph{$P$-metrizable} if it has a $(P \times \mathbb{N})$-locally finite base. This work provides the first detailed study of $P$-paracompact and $P$-metrizable spaces, particularly in the case w…
A topological group $(G,μ)$ from a class $\mathcal G$ of MAP topological abelian groups will be called a {\it Mackey group} in $\mathcal G$ if it has the following property: if $ν$ is a group topology in $G$ such that $(G,ν)\in \mathcal G$ and $(G,ν)$ has the same continuous characters, say $(G,ν)^{\wedge}=(G,μ)^{\wedge}$, then $ν\le μ$. If $\rm{LCS}$ is the class of Hausdorff topological abelian groups which admit a structure of a locally convex topological vector space over $\mathbb R$, it is well-known that every metrizable $(G,μ) \in \rm{LCS}$ is a Mackey group in $\rm{LCS}$. For the class…
We introduced the concept of a metric value set (MVS) in an earlier paper \cite{GM} and developed the idea further in \cite{AS}. In this paper we study locally $M$-metrizable spaces and the products of $M$-metrizable spaces. Finally we prove a characterization of commutatively metrizable topological spaces by means of the bases of a quasiuniformity.
We provide a machinery for transferring some properties of metrizable $ANR$-spaces to metrizable $LC^n$-spaces. As a result, we show that for complete metrizable spaces the properties $ALC^n$, $LC^n$ and $WLC^n$ coincide to each other. We also provide the following spectral characterizations of $ALC^n$ and cell-like compacta: A compactum $X$ is $ALC^n$ if and only if $X$ is the limit space of a $σ$-complete inverse system $S=\{X_α, p^β_α, α<β<τ\}$ consisting of compact metrizable $LC^n$-spaces $X_α$ such that all bonding projections $p^β_α$, as a well all limit projections $p_α$, are $UV^n$-ma…
A space $X$ is said to be $π$-metrizable if it has a $σ$-discrete $π$-base. In this paper, we mainly give affirmative answers for two questions about $π$-metrizable spaces. The main results are that: (1) A space $X$ is $π$-metrizable if and only if $X$ has a $σ$-hereditarily closure-preserving $π$-base; (2) $X$ is $π$-metrizable if and only if $X$ is almost $σ$-paracompact and locally $π$-metrizable; (3) Open and closed maps preserve $π$-metrizability; (4) $π$-metrizability satisfies hereditarily closure-preserving regular closed sum theorems. Moreover, we define the notions of second-countabl…
We prove that a large class of metrizable group topologies for subgroups of $\mathbb{R}^n$ and the completions of the subgroups are locally isometric to, respectively, metrizable group topologies for $\mathbb{Z}$ and their completions, first studied by Nienhuys. This will prove, in particular, that all the complete groups in question are one dimensional, locally totally disconnected, and not locally compact. The metrizable topologies on the subgroups of $\mathbb{R}^n$ are formed by specifying a sequence in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and the rate at which it must converge to the identity.
It is shown that a set in product of $n$ metrizable spaces is the discontinuity points set of some separately continuous function if and only if this set can be represented as the union of a sequence of $F_σ$-sets which are locally projectively meager.
Let ${\rm Fin}(X)$ be the hyperspace consisting of non-empty finite subsets of a space $X$ endowed with the Vietoris topology. In this paper, we characterize a metrizable space $X$ whose hyperspace ${\rm Fin}(X)$ is homeomorphic to the linear subspace spanned by the canonical orthonormal basis of a non-separable Hilbert space.
It is known that the Stone-Cech compactification of a metrizable space X is approximated by the collection of Smirnov compactifications of X for all compatible metrics on X. If we confine ourselves to locally compact separable metrizable spaces, the corresponding statement holds for Higson compactifications. We investigate the smallest cardinality of a set D of compatible metrics on X such that the Stone-Cech compactification of X is approximated by Smirnov or Higson compactifications for all metrics in D. We prove that it is either the dominating number or 1 for a locally compact separable me…
Let $F(X)$ be the free topological group on a Tychonoff space $X$. For all natural numbers $n$ we denote by $F_n(X)$ the subset of $F(X)$ consisting of all words of reduced length $\leq n$. In \cite{Y3}, the author found equivalent conditions on a metrizable space $X$ for $F_3(X)$ to be Fréchet-Urysohn, and for $F_n(X)$ to be Fréchet-Urysohn for $n\geq5$. However, no equivalent condition on $X$ for $n=4$ was found. In this paper, we give the equivalent condition. In fact, we show that for a metrizable space $X$, if the set of all non-isolated points of $X$ is compact, then $F_4(X)$ is Fréchet-…
If G is a locally essential subgroup of a compact abelian group K, then: (i) t(G)=w(G)=w(K), where t(G) is the tightness of G; (ii) if G is radial, then K must be metrizable; (iii) G contains a super-sequence S converging to 0 such that |S|=w(G)=w(K). Items (i)--(iii) hold when G is a dense locally minimal subgroup of K. We show that locally minimal, locally precompact abelian groups of countable tightness are metrizable. In particular, a minimal abelian group of countable tightness is metrizable. This answers a question of O. Okunev posed in 2007. For every uncountable cardinal kappa, we cons…
In this paper we give two families of non-metrizable topologies on the group of the integers having a countable dual group which is isomorphic to a infinite torsion subgroup of the unit circle in the complex plane. Both families are related to $D$-sequences, which are sequences of natural numbers such that each term divides the following. The first family consists of locally quasi-convex group topologies. The second consists of complete topologies which are not locally quasi-convex. In order to study the dual groups for both families we need to make numerical considerations of independent inte…
A topological space is locally equiconnected if there exists a neighborhood $U$ of the diagonal in $X\times X$ and a continuous map $λ:U\times[0,1]\to X$ such that $λ(x,y,0)=x$, $λ(x,y,1)=y$ et $λ(x,x,t)=x$ for $(x,y)\in U$ and $(x,t)\in X\times[0,1]$. This class contains all ANRs, all locally contractible topological groups and the open subsets of convex subsets of linear topological spaces. In a series of papers, we extended the fixed point theory of compact continuous maps, which was well developped for ANRs, to all separeted locally equiconnected spaces. This generalization includes a proo…
A locally convex space (lcs) $E$ is said to have an $ω^ω$-base if $E$ has a neighborhood base $\{U_α:α\inω^ω\}$ at zero such that $U_β\subseteq U_α$ for all $α\leqβ$. The class of lcs with an $ω^ω$-base is large, among others contains all $(LM)$-spaces (hence $(LF)$-spaces), strong duals of distinguished Fréchet lcs (hence spaces of distributions $D'(Ω)$). A remarkable result of Cascales-Orihuela states that every compact set in a lcs with an $ω^ω$-base is metrizable. Our main result shows that every uncountable-dimensional lcs with an $ω^ω$-base contains an infinite-dimensional metrizable com…
Given a Lie group $G$ we study the class $\M$ of proper metrizable $G$-spaces with metrizable orbit spaces, and show that any $G$-space $X \in \M$ admits a closed $G$-embedding into a convex $G$-subset $C$ of some locally convex linear $G$-space, such that $X$ has some $G$-neighborhood in $C$ which belongs to the class $\M$. As corollaries we see that any $G$-ANE for $\M$ has the $G$-homotopy type of some $G$-CW complex and that any $G$-ANR for $\M$ is a $G$-ANE for $\M$.
Answering a question of Uspenskij, we prove that if $X$ is a closed manifold of dimension $2$ or higher or the Hilbert cube, then the universal minimal flow of $\mathrm{Homeo}(X)$ is not metrizable. In dimension $3$ or higher, we also show that the minimal $\mathrm{Homeo}(X)$-flow consisting of all maximal, connected chains in $X$ has meager orbits.
When does a topological group $G$ have a Hausdorff compactification $bG$ with a remainder belonging to a given class of spaces? In this paper, we mainly improve some results of A.V. Arhangel'ski\vı and C. Liu's. Let $G$ be a non-locally compact topological group and $bG$ be a compactification of $G$. The following facts are established: (1) If $bG\setminus G$ has a locally a point-countable $p$-metabase and $π$-character of $bG\setminus G$ is countable, then $G$ and $bG$ are separable and metrizable; (2) If $bG\setminus G$ has locally a $δθ$-base, then $G$ and $bG$ are separable and metrizable…
A Hausdorff topological group $(G,τ)$ is called locally minimal if there exists a neighborhood $U$ of 0 in $τ$ such that $U$ fails to be a neighborhood of zero in any Hausdorff group topology on $G$ which is strictly coarser than $τ.$ Examples of locally minimal groups are all subgroups of Banach-Lie groups, all locally compact groups and all minimal groups. Motivated by the fact that locally compact NSS groups are Lie groups, we study the connection between local minimality and the NSS property, establishing that under certain conditions, locally minimal NSS groups are metrizable. A symmetric…
The famous Banach-Mazur problem, which asks if every infinite-dimensional Banach space has an infinite-dimensional separable quotient Banach space, has remained unsolved for 85 years, though it has been answered in the affirmative for reflexive Banach spaces and even Banach spaces which are duals. The analogous problem for locally convex spaces has been answered in the negative, but has been shown to be true for large classes of locally convex spaces including all non-normable Fréchet spaces. In this paper the analogous problem for topological groups is investigated. Indeed there are four natu…
We consider the lattice of coarse structures on a set $X$ and study metrizable, locally finite and cellular coarse structures on $X$ from the lattice point of view.
In the absence of the Axiom of Choice, necessary and sufficient conditions for a locally compact Hausdorff space to have all non-empty second-countable compact Hausdorff spaces as remainders are given in $\mathbf{ZF}$. Among other independence results, the characterization of locally compact Hausdorff spaces having all non-empty metrizable compact spaces as remainders, obtained by Hatzenhuhler and Mattson in $\mathbf{ZFC}$, is proved to be independent of $\mathbf{ZF}$. Urysohn's Metrization Theorem is generalized to the following theorem: every $T_3$-space which admits a base expressible as a …
Let $K$ be a compact Hausdorff space and let $(f_n)_{n\in \N}$ be a pairwise disjoint sequence of continuous functions from $K$ into $[0,1]$. We say that a compact space $L$ \emph{adds supremum} of $(f_n)_{n\in \N}$ in $K$ if there exists a continuous surjection $π:L\longrightarrow K$ such that there exists $sup\{f_n\circπ:n\in \N\}$ in $C(L)$. Moreover, we expect that $L$ preserves suprema of disjoint continuous functions which already existed in $C(K)$. Namely, if $sup\{g_n:n\in \N\}$ exists in $C(K)$, we must have $sup\{g_n\circπ:n\in \N\}$ in $C(L)$. This paper studies the preservation of …
Let $X$ be a Hausdorff topological vector space, $X^*$ its topological dual and $Z$ a subset of $X^*$. In this paper, we establish some results concerning the $σ(X,Z)$-approximate fixed point property for bounded, closed convex subsets $C$ of $X$. Three major situations are studied. First when $Z$ is separable in the strong topology. Second when $X$ is a metrizable locally convex space and $Z=X^*$, and third when $X$ is not necessarily metrizable but admits a metrizable locally convex topology compatible with the duality. Our approach focuses on establishing the Fréchet-Urysohn property for ce…
We show that any metacompact Moore space is monotonically metacompact and use that result to characterize monotone metacompactness in certain generalized ordered (GO)spaces. We show, for example, that a generalized ordered space with a sigma-closed-discrete dense subset is metrizable if and only if it is monotonically (countably) metacompact, that a monotonically (countably) metacompact GO-space is hereditarily paracompact, and that a locally countably compact GO-space is metrizable if and only if it is monotonically (countably) metacompact. We give an example of a non-metrizable LOTS that is …
For a regular space $X$, the hyperspace $(CL(X), τ_{F})$ (resp., $(CL(X), τ_{V})$) is the space of all nonempty closed subsets of $X$ with the Fell topology (resp., Vietoris topology). In this paper, we give the characterization of the space $X$ such that the hyperspace $(CL(X), τ_{F})$ (resp., $(CL(X), τ_{V})$) with a countable character of closed subsets. We mainly prove that $(CL(X), τ_F)$ has a countable character on each closed subset if and only if $X$ is compact metrizable, and $(CL(X), τ_F)$ has a countable character on each compact subset if and only if $X$ is locally compact and sepa…
We prove that the road space of an R-special tree is contractible and that a locally metrizable space containing a copy of an uncountable $ω_1$-compact subspace of a tree is not. We also raise some questions about possible generalizations.
It is proved that, for a wide class of topological abelian groups (locally quasi--convex groups for which the canonical evaluation from the group into its Pontryagin bidual group is onto) the arc component of the group is exactly the union of the one--parameter subgroups. We also prove that for metrizable separable locally arc-connected reflexive groups, the exponential map from the Lie algebra into the group is open.
P. Alexandroff proved that a locally compact $T_2$-space has a $T_2$ one-point compactification (obtained by adding a "point at infinity") if and only if it is non-compact. He also asked for characterizations of spaces which have one-point connectifications. Here, we study one-point connectifications, and in analogy with Alexandroff's theorem, we prove that in the realm of $T_i$-spaces ($i=3\frac{1}{2},4,5$) a locally connected space has a one-point connectification if and only if it has no compact component. We extend this theorem to the case $i=6$ by assuming some set-theoretic assumption, a…
In a recent paper by D. Shakhmatov and J. Spěvák [Group-valued continuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence, Topology and its Applications (2009), doi:10.1016/j.topol.2009.06.022] the concept of a ${\rm TAP}$ group is introduced and it is shown in particular that ${\rm NSS}$ groups are ${\rm TAP}$. We prove that conversely, Weil complete metrizable ${\rm TAP}$ groups are ${\rm NSS}$. We define also the narrower class of ${\rm STAP}$ groups, show that the ${\rm NSS}$ groups are in fact ${\rm STAP}$ and that the converse statement is true in metrizable case. A remarkable chara…
The concept of the strong Pytkeev property, recently introduced by Tsaban and Zdomskyy in [32], was successfully applied to the study of the space $C_c(X)$ of all continuous real-valued functions with the compact-open topology on some classes of topological spaces $X$ including Čech-complete Lindelöf spaces. Being motivated also by several results providing various concepts of networks we introduce the class of $\mathfrak{P}$-spaces strictly included in the class of $\aleph$-spaces. This class of generalized metric spaces is closed under taking subspaces, topological sums and countable product…
Suppose G is a topological group containing a (closed) topological copy of the Frechet-Urysohn fan. If G is a perfectly normal sequential space (a normal k-space) then every closed metrizable subset in $G$ is locally compact. Applying this result to topological groups whose underlying topological space can be written as a direct limit of a sequence of closed metrizable subsets, we get that every such a group either is metrizable or is homeomorphic to the product of a $k_ω$-space and a discrete space.
We continue Gartside, Moody, and Stares' study of versions of monotone paracompactness. We show that the class of spaces with a monotone closure-preserving open operator is strictly larger than those with a monotone open locally-finite operator. We prove that monotonically metacompact GO-spaces have a monotone open locally-finite operator, and so do GO-spaces with a monotone (open or not) closure-preserving operator, whose underlying LOTS has a $σ$-closed-discrete dense subset. A GO-space with a $σ$-closed-discrete dense subset and a monotone closure-preserving operator is metrizable. A compac…
We prove that every infinite-dimensional (locally convex) linear topological space that can be expressed as a direct limit of finite-dimensional metrizable compacta is (linearly) homeomorphic to the space $R^\infty=\dlim R^n$.
Recently Außenhofer and the author independently have shown that the free abelian topological group $A(\mathbf{s})$ over a convergent sequence $\mathbf{s}$ does not admit the strongest compatible locally quasi-convex group topology that gives the first example of a locally quasi-convex abelian group without a Mackey group topology. In this note we considerably extend this example by showing that the free abelian topological group $A(X)$ over a non-discrete zero-dimensional metrizable space $X$ does not have a Mackey group topology. In particular, for every countable non-discrete metrizable spa…
Let $L(X)$ be the free locally convex space over a Tychonoff space $X$. If $X$ is Dieudonné complete (for example, metrizable), then $L(X)$ is a reflexive group if and only if $X$ is discrete. Answering a question posed in [9] we prove also that $L(X)$ is an Ascoli space if and only if $X$ is a countable discrete space.
Let X be a non-degenerate, connected, locally path-connected metrizable space and Fin(X) be the hyperspace consisting of non-empty finite subsets in X endowed with the Vietoris topology. In this paper, we show that every compact set in Fin(X) is a strong Z-set.
We study final group topologies and their relations to compactness properties. In particular, we are interested in situations where a colimit or direct limit is locally compact, a k_ω-space, or locally k_ω. As a first application, we show that unitary forms of complex Kac-Moody groups can be described as the colimit of an amalgam of subgroups (in the category of Hausdorff topological groups, and the category of k_ω-groups). Our second application concerns Pontryagin duality theory for the classes of almost metrizable topological abelian groups, resp., locally k_ωtopological abelian groups, whi…
It is proved that no region of a homogeneous locally compact, locally connected metric space can be cut by an $F_σ$-subset of a "smaller" dimension. The result applies to different finite or infinite topological dimensions of metrizable spaces.
We continue in this paper the study of locally minimal groups started in \cite{LocMin}. The minimality criterion for dense subgroups of compact groups is extended to local minimality. Using this criterion we characterize the compact abelian groups containing dense countable locally minimal subgroups, as well as those containing dense locally minimal subgroups of countable free-rank. We also characterize the compact abelian groups whose torsion part is dense and locally minimal. We call a topological group $G$ {\it almost minimal} if it has a closed, minimal normal subgroup $N$ such that the qu…
We obtain several results and examples concerning the general question ``When must a space with a small diagonal have a G_delta-diagonal?". In particular, we show (1) every compact metrizably fibered space with a small diagonal is metrizable; (2) there are consistent examples of regular Lindelof (even hereditarily Lindelof) spaces with a small diagonal but no G_delta-diagonal; (3) every first-countable hereditarily Lindelof space with a small diagonal has a G_delta-diagonal; (4) assuming CH, every Lindelof Sigma-space with a small diagonal has a countable network; (5) whether countably compact…
We prove that each closed locally continuum- connected subspace of a finite dimensional topological group is locally compact. This allows us to construct many 1-dimensional metrizable separable spaces that are not homeomorphic to closed subsets of finite-dimensional topological groups, which answers in negative a question of D.Shakhmatov. Another corollary is a characterization of Lie groups as finite-dimensional locally continuum-connected topological groups. For locally path connected topological groups this characterization was proved by Gleason and Palais in 1957.
We extend to metrizable locally compact groups Rosenthal's theorem describing those Banach spaces containing no copy of $l_1$. For that purpose, we transfer to general locally compact groups the notion of interpolation ($I_0$) set, which was defined by Hartman and Ryll-Nardzewsky [25] for locally compact abelian groups. Thus we prove that for every sequence $\lbrace g_n \rbrace_{n<ω}$ in a locally compact group $G$, then either $\lbrace g_n \rbrace_{n<ω}$ has a weak Cauchy subsequence or contains a subsequence that is an $I_0$ set. This result is subsequently applied to obtain sufficient condi…
We prove that a Hausdorff locally compact semitopological bicyclic semigroup with adjoined zero $\mathscr{C}^0$ is either compact or discrete. Also we show that the similar statement holds for a locally compact semitopological bicyclic semigroup with an adjoined compact ideal and construct an example which witnesses that a counterpart of the statements does not hold when $\mathscr{C}^0$ is a Čech-complete metrizable topological inverse semigroup.
For separable metrizable spaces $X,Y$ and a metrizable topological group $Z$ by $S(X\times Y,Z)$ we denote the space of all separately continuous functions $f:X\times Y\to Z$ endowed with the topology of layer-wise uniform convergence, generated by the subbase consisting of the sets $[K_X\times K_Y,U]=\{f\in S(X\times Y,Z):f(K_X\times K_Y)\subset U\}$, where $U$ is an open subset of $Z$ and $K_X\subset X$, $K_Y\subset Y$ are compact sets one of which is a singleton. We prove that every separately continuous function $f:X\times Y\to Z$ with zero-dimensional image $f(X\times Y)$ is a limit of a …
Given a Tychonoff space $X$, let $\varrho(X)$ be the set of remote points of $X$. We view $\varrho(X)$ as a topological space. In this paper we assume that $X$ is metrizable and ask for conditions on $Y$ so that $\varrho(X)$ is homeomorphic to $\varrho(Y)$. This question has been studied before by R. G. Woods and C. Gates. We give some results of the following type: if $X$ has topological property $\mathbf{P}$ and $\varrho(X)$ is homeomorphic to $\varrho(Y)$, then $Y$ also has $\mathbf{P}$. We also characterize the remote points of the rationals and irrationals up to some restrictions. Further…
Three themes of general topology: quotient spaces; absolute retracts; and inverse limits - are reapproached here in the setting of metrizable uniform spaces, with an eye to applications in geometric and algebraic topology. The results include: 1) If f: A -> Y is a uniformly continuous map, where X and Y are metric spaces and A is a closed subset of X, we show that the adjunction space X\cup_f Y with the quotient uniformity (hence also with the topology thereof) is metrizable, by an explicit metric. This yields natural constructions of cone, join and mapping cylinder in the category of metrizab…
Let $\{ G_n\}_{n\in\w}$ be a closed tower of metrizable groups. Under a mild condition called $(GC)$ and which is strictly weaker than $PTA$ condition introduced in [22], we show that: (1) the inductive limit $G=\mbox{g-}\underrightarrow{\lim}\, G_n$ of the tower is a Hausdorff group, (2) every $G_n$ is a closed subgroup of $G$, (3) if $K$ is a compact subset of $G$, then $K\subseteq G_m$ for some $m\inω$, (4) $G$ has a $\mathfrak{G}$-base and countable tightness, (5) $G$ is an $\aleph$-space, (6) $G$ is an Ascoli space if and only if either (i) there is $m\inω$ such that $G_n$ is open in $G_{…
The aim of this paper is to unify the theory of ends of finitely generated groups with that of ends of locally compact, metrizable and connected topological groups. In both theories one proves that, if the number of ends is finite, then it must be at most $2$. In both theories groups of two ends are characterized as having an infinite cyclic subgroup of either finite index or such that its coset space is compact. Our generalization amounts to defining the space of ends of any coarse space and then applying it to large scale groups, a class of groups generalizing both finitely generated groups …
We prove that for a compact subgroup $H$ of a locally compact Hausdorff group $G$, the following properties are mutually equivalent: (1) $G/H$ is a manifold, (2) $G/H$ is finite-dimensional and locally connected, (3) $G/H$ is locally contractible, (4) $G/H$ is an ANE for paracompact spaces, (5) $G/H$ is a metrizable $G$-ANE for paracompact proper $G$-spaces having a paracompact orbit space. A new version of the Approximate slice theorem is also proven in the light of these results.
A subspace Y of a separable metrizable space X is separable, but without X metrizable this is not true even If Y is a closed linear subspace of a topological vector space X. K.H. Hofmann and S.A. Morris introduced the class of pro-Lie groups which consists of projective limits of finite-dimensional Lie groups and proved that it contains all compact groups, locally compact abelian groups and connected locally compact groups and is closed under products and closed subgroups. A topological group G is almost connected if the quotient group of G by the connected component of its identity is compact…
