We show $L^p$ estimates for square roots of second order complex elliptic systems $L$ in divergence form on open sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ subject to mixed boundary conditions. The underlying set is supposed to be locally uniform near the Neumann boundary part, and the Dirichlet boundary part is Ahlfors-David regular. The lower endpoint for the interval where such estimates are available is characterized by $p$-boundedness properties of the semigroup generated by $-L$, and the upper endpoint by extrapolation properties of the Lax-Milgram isomorphism. Also, we show that the extrapolation range is relatively open in $(1,\infty)$.
We consider second order elliptic operators with real, nonsymmetric coefficient functions which are subject to mixed boundary conditions. The aim of this paper is to provide uniform resolvent estimates for the realizations of these operators on $L^p$ in a most direct way and under minimal regularity assumptions on the domain. This is analogous to the main result in [Chill et al. 2006]. Ultracontractivity of the associated semigroups is also considered. All results are for two different form domains realizing mixed boundary conditions. We further consider the case of Robin -- instead of classic…
We discuss stability of square root domains for uniformly elliptic partial differential operators $L_{a,Ω,Γ} = -\nabla\cdot a \nabla$ in $L^2(Ω)$, with mixed boundary conditions on $\partial Ω$, with respect to additive perturbations. We consider open, bounded, and connected sets $Ω\in \mathbb{R}^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N} \backslash\{1\}$, that satisfy the interior corkscrew condition and prove stability of square root domains of the operator $L_{a,Ω,Γ}$ with respect to additive potential perturbations $V \in L^p(Ω) + L^{\infty}(Ω)$, $p>n/2$. Special emphasis is put on the case of uniformly ellipt…
In this work we study regularity properties of solutions to fractional elliptic problems with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary data when dealing with the Spectral Fractional Laplacian.
We consider the operator $L=-{\rm div}(A\nabla)$, where the $n\times n$ matrix $A$ is real-valued, elliptic, with the symmetric part of $A$ in $L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and the anti-symmetric part of $A$ only belongs to the space $BMO(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $n\ge2$. We prove the Gaussian estimates for the kernel of $e^{-tL}$, as well as that of $\partial_t^le^{-tL}$, for any $l\in\mathbb{N}$. We show that the square root of $L$ satisfies the $L^p$ estimates $\left\Vert{L^{1/2}f}\right\Vert_{L^p}\lesssim\left\Vert{\nabla f}\right\Vert_{L^p}$ for $1<p<\infty$, and $\left\Vert{\nabla f}\right\Vert_{L^p}…
Under a Morse index condition we prove symmetry results for solutions of a nonlinear mixed boundary condition elliptic problem. As an intermediate step we relate the Morse index of a solution to a mixed boundary condition linear eigenvalue problem for which we construct sequences of eigenvalues and provide variational characterization of them.
We study a nonlinear elliptic boundary value problem defined on a smooth bounded domain involving the fractional Laplace operator, a concave-convex powers term together with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions.
We prove weighted and mixed-norm Sobolev estimates for fully nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations in the whole space under a relaxed convexity condition with almost VMO dependence on space-time variables. The corresponding interior and boundary estimates are also obtained.
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of an elliptic operator with mixed boundary conditions on cylindrical domains when the length of the cylinder goes to infinity. We identify the correct limiting problem and show in particular, that in general the limiting behavior is very different from the one for the Dirichlet boundary conditions.
We construct families of optimal Hardy-weights for a subcritical linear second-order elliptic operator $(P,B)$ with degenerate mixed boundary conditions. By an optimal Hardy-weight for a subcritical operator we mean a nonzero nonnegative weight function $W$ such that $(P-W,B)$ is critical and null-critical with respect to $W$. Our results rely on a recently developed criticality theory for positive solutions of the corresponding mixed boundary value problem.
We present some comparison results for solutions to certain non local elliptic and parabolic problems that involve the fractional Laplacian operator and mixed boundary conditions, given by a zero Dirichlet datum on part of the complementary of the domain and zero Neumann data on the rest. These results represent a non local generalization of a Hopf's lemma for elliptic and parabolic problems with mixed conditions. In particular we prove the non local version of the results obtained by J. Dávila and J. Dávila-L. Dupaigne for the classical case respectively.
This paper establishes pointwise estimates up to boundary for the gradient of weak solutions to a class of very singular quasilinear elliptic equations with mixed data: \begin{cases} -\operatorname{div}(A(x,D u))=g-\operatorname{div} f \quad & \mathrm{in} \quad Ω\\ u= 0 \quad & \text{on} \ \partial Ω, \end{cases} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is sufficiently flat in the sense of Reifenberg.
Paper dedicated to qualitative study of the solution of the Zaremba type problem in Lipschitz domain with respect to the elliptic equation in non-divergent form. Main result is Landis type Growth Lemma in spherical layer for Mixed Boundary Value Problem in the class of "admissible domain". Based on the Growth Lemma Phragmén-Lindelöf theorem is proved at junction point of Dirichlet boundary and boundary over which derivative in non-tangential direction is defined.
We start in this paper a systematic study of the superpositions of elliptic operators with different orders, mixing classical and fractional scenarios. For concreteness, we focus on the sum of the Laplacian and the fractional Laplacian, and we provide structural results, including existence, maximum principles (both for weak and classical solutions), interior Sobolev regularity and boundary regularity of Lipschitz type.
Based on the $H^2$ existence of the solution, we investigate weighted estimates for a mixed boundary elliptic system in a two-dimensional corner domain, when the contact angle $\om\in(0,π/2)$. This system is closely related to the Dirichlet-Neumann operator in the water-waves problem, and the weight we choose is decided by singularities of the mixed boundary system. Meanwhile, we also prove similar weighted estimates with a different weight for the Dirichlet boundary problem as well as the Neumann boundary problem when $\om\in(0,π)$.
In this article, we consider mixed local and nonlocal Sobolev $(q,p)$-inequalities with extremal in the case $0<q<1<p<\infty$. We prove that the extremal of such inequalities is unique up to a multiplicative constant that is associated with a singular elliptic problem involving the mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace operator. Moreover, it is proved that the mixed Sobolev inequalities are necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of weak solutions of such singular problems. As a consequence, a relation between the singular $p$-Laplace and mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equati…
We show, using symmetrization techniques, that it is possible to prove a comparison principle (we are mainly focused on $L^1$ comparison) between solutions to an elliptic partial differential equation on a smooth bounded set $Ω$ with a rather general boundary condition, and solutions to a suitable related problem defined on a ball having the same volume as $Ω$. This includes for instance mixed problems where Dirichlet boundary conditions are prescribed on part of the boundary, while Robin boundary conditions are prescribed on its complement.
We consider a function U satisfying a degenerate elliptic equation on (0,+\infty)\times R^N with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions. The Neumann condition is prescribed on a bounded domain Ω\subset R^N of class C^{1;1}, whereas the Dirichlet data is on the exterior of Ω. We prove Holder regularity estimates of U/d^s, where d is a distance function defined as d(z) := dist(z;R^N\setminusΩ), for z\in (0,+\infty)\times R^N. The degenerate elliptic equation arises from the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension of the Dirichlet problem for the fractional Laplacian. Our proof relies on compactness…
In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity results of nontrivial positive solutions to a quasilinear elliptic equation in $\RN$, when $N\geq2$, as \begin{equation} \Lp u+u^{p-1}=λ\hspace{0.2mm}k(x)u^{r-1}-h(x)u^{q-1}.\nonumber \end{equation} Here, $h(x),k(x)>0$ are Lebesgue measurable functions, $1<p<q<\infty$, $p<r<\min\{p^*,q\}$ if $p<N$ while $p<r<q$ if $p\geq N$, and $λ>0$ is a parameter.
We study global properties of positive radial solutions of --$Δ$u = up +M |$\nabla$u|p+1 in RN wherep > 1 and M is a real number. We prove the existence or the non-existence of ground states and of solutions with singularity at 0 according to the values of M and p.
This article focuses on Lp-estimates for the square root of elliptic systems of second order in divergence form on a bounded domain. We treat complex bounded measurable coefficients and allow for mixed Dirichlet/Neumann boundary conditions on domains beyond the Lipschitz class. If there is an associated bounded semigroup on Lp0 , then we prove that the square root extends for all p $\in$ (p0, 2) to an isomorphism between a closed subspace of W1p carrying the boundary conditions and Lp. This result is sharp and extrapolates to exponents slightly above 2. As a byproduct, we obtain an optimal p-i…
In this paper, we consider an elliptic operator obtained as the superposition of a classical second-order differential operator and a nonlocal operator of fractional type. Though the methods that we develop are quite general, for concreteness we focus on the case in which the operator takes the form $-Δ+(-Δ)^s$, with $s\in(0,1)$. We focus here on symmetry properties of the solutions and we prove a radial symmetry result, based on the moving plane method, and a one-dimensional symmetry result, related to a classical conjecture by G.W. Gibbons.
We consider the mixed local-nonlocal semi-linear elliptic equations driven by the superposition of Brownian and Lévy processes \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} - Δu + (-Δ)^s u = g(x,u) & \hbox{in $Ω$,} u=0 & \hbox{in $\mathbb{R}^n\backslashΩ$.} \\ \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} Under mild assumptions on the nonlinear term $g$, we show the $L^\infty$ boundedness of any weak solution (either not changing sign or sign-changing) by the Moser iteration method. Moreover, when $s\in (0, \frac{1}{2}]$, we obtain that the solution is unique and actually belongs to $C^{1,α}(\overlineΩ)$ …
We investigate the qualitative properties of solution to the Zaremba type problem in unbounded domain for the non-divergence elliptic equation with possible degeneration at infinity. The main result is Phragmén-Lindelöf type principle on growth/decay of a solution at infinity depending on both the structure of the Neumann portion of the boundary and the "thickness" of its Dirichlet portion. The result is formulated in terms of so-called $s$-capacity of the Dirichlet portion of the boundary, while the Neumann boundary should satisfy certain "admissibility" condition in the sequence of layers co…
We investigate the problem of guaranteed estimation of values of linear continuous functionals defined on solutions to mixed variational equations generated by linear elliptic problems from indirect noisy observations of these solutions. We assume that right-hand sides of the equations, as well as the second moments of noises in observations are not known; the only available information is that they belong to given bounded sets in the appropriate functional spaces. We look for linear with respect to observations optimal estimates of solutions of aforementioned equations called minimax or guara…
We consider equations involving a combination of local and nonlocal degenerate $p$-Laplace operators. The main contribution of the paper is almost Lipschitz regularity for the homogeneous equation and Hölder continuity with an explicit Hölder exponent in the general case. For certain parameters, our results also imply Hölder continuity of the gradient. In addition, we establish existence, uniqueness and local boundedness. The approach is based on an iteration in the spirit of Moser combined with an approximation method.
In this paper we prove the existence of a nonnegative ground state solution to the following class of coupled systems involving Schrödinger equations with square root of the Laplacian $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{lr} (-Δ)^{1/2}u+V_{1}(x)u=f_{1}(u)+λ(x)v, & x\in\mathbb{R}, (-Δ)^{1/2}v+V_{2}(x)v=f_{2}(v)+λ(x)u, & x\in\mathbb{R}, \end{array} \right. $$ where the nonlinearities $f_{1}(s)$ and $f_{2}(s)$ have exponential critical growth of the Trudinger-Moser type, the potentials $V_{1}(x)$ and $V_{2}(x)$ are nonnegative and periodic. Moreover, we assume that there exists $δ\in (0,1)$ such that $λ(x)\l…
We study the existence of nonnegative solutions to the Dirichlet problem $\CL^{_{^M}}_{p,q}u:=-Δu+u^p-M|\nabla u|^q=μ$ in a domain $Ω\subset\BBR^N$ where $μ$ is a nonnegative Radon measure, when $p>1$, $q>1$ and $M\geq 0$. We also give conditions under which nonnegative solutions of $\CL^{_{^M}}_{p,q}u=0$ in $Ω\setminus K$ where $K$ is a compact subset of $Ω$ can be extended as a solution of the same equation in $Ω$
We study elliptic and parabolic boundary value problems in spaces of mixed scales with mixed smoothness on the half space. The aim is to solve boundary value problems with boundary data of negative regularity and to describe the singularities of solutions at the boundary. To this end, we derive mapping properties of Poisson operators in mixed scales with mixed smoothness. We also derive $\mathcal{R}$-sectoriality results for homogeneous boundary data in the case that the smoothness in normal direction is not too large.
In this paper, we study both elliptic and parabolic equations in non-divergence form with singular degenerate coefficients. Weighted and mixed-norm $L_p$-estimates and solvability are established under some suitable partially weighted BMO regularity conditions on the coefficients. When the coefficients are constants, the operators are reduced to extensional operators which arise in the study of fractional heat equations and fractional Laplace equations. Our results are new even in this setting and in the unmixed case. For the proof, we establish both interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates f…
We consider a combination of local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equations and discuss several regularity properties of weak solutions. More precisely, we establish local boundedness of weak subsolutions, local Hölder continuity of weak solutions, Harnack inequality for weak solutions and weak Harnack inequality for weak supersolutions. We also discuss lower semicontinuity of weak supersolutions as well as upper semicontinuity of weak subsolutions. Our approach is purely analytic and it is based on the De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory, the expansion of positivity and estimates involving a tail term. The…
We study the existence of a solution to the mixed boundary value problem for Helmholtz and Poisson type equations in a bounded Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ and in $\mathbb{R}^N\setminusΩ$ for $N\geq3$. The boundary $\partialΩ$ of $Ω$ is the decomposition of $Γ_1,Γ_2\subset\partialΩ$ such that $\partialΩ=Γ=\overlineΓ_1\cupΓ_2=Γ_1\cup\overlineΓ_2$ and $Γ_1\capΓ_2=\emptyset$. We have shown that if the Neumann data $f_2\in H^{-\frac{1}{2}}(Γ_2)$ and the Dirichlet data $f_1\in H^{\frac{1}{2}}(Γ_1)$ then the Helmholtz problem with mixed boundary data admits a unique solution. We have also…
This work is about global Hölder regularity for solutions to elliptic partial differential equations subject to mixed boundary conditions on irregular domains. There are two main results. In the first, we show that if the domain of the realization of an elliptic differential operator in a negative Sobolev space with integrability $q > d$ embeds into a space of Hölder continuous functions, then so do the domains of suitable fractional powers of this operator. The second main result then establishes that the premise of the first is indeed satisfied. The proof goes along the classical techniques …
Some qualitative and quantitative properties of weak solutions to mixed anisotropic and nonlocal quasilinear elliptic and doubly nonlinear parabolic equations
We are interested in the following Dirichlet problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -Δu + λu - μ\frac{u}{|x|^2} - ν\frac{u}{\mathrm{dist}\,(x,\mathbb{R}^N \setminus Ω)^2} = f(x,u) & \quad \mbox{in } Ω\\ u = 0 & \quad \mbox{on } \partial Ω, \end{array} \right. $$ on a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ with $0 \in Ω$. We assume that the nonlinear part is superlinear on some closed subset $K \subset Ω$ and asymptotically linear on $Ω\setminus K$. We find a solution with the energy bounded by a certain min-max level, and infinitely many solutions provided that $f$ is odd in $u$. Moreover we stu…
