An element $a\in R$ is provided that there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a-e\in U(R), ae=ea$ and $eae\in J(eRe)$. In this article, we investigate strongly rad-clean matrices over a commutative local ring. We completely determine when a $2\times 2$ matrix over a commutative local ring is strongly rad-clean.
The literature about strongly clean matrices over commutative rings is quite extensive. The sharpest results are about matrices over commutative local rings, for example those by Borooah, Diesl and Dorsey. The purpose of this note is to show that, using Pierce sheaf techniques, many of the known results about matrices over commutative local rings can be extended to those over commutative clean rings in general.
A ring $R$ is called strongly clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and an idempotent that commute. By {\rm SRC} factorization, Borooah, Diesl, and Dorsey \cite{BDD051} completely determined when ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ over a commutative local ring $R$ is strongly clean. We generalize the notion of {\rm SRC} factorization to commutative rings, prove that commutative $n$-{\rm SRC} rings $(n\ge 2)$ are precisely the commutative local rings over which ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean, and characterize strong cleanness of matrices over commutative projective-free rings having {\rm ULP…
Let $R$ be a commutative local ring. It is proved that $R$ is Henselian if and only if each $R$-algebra which is a direct limit of module finite $R$-algebras is strongly clean. So, the matrix ring $\mathbb{M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean for each integer $n>0$ if $R$ is Henselian and we show that the converse holds if either the residue class field of $R$ is algebraically closed or $R$ is an integrally closed domain or $R$ is a valuation ring. It is also shown that each $R$-algebra which is locally a direct limit of module-finite algebras, is strongly clean if $R$ is a $π$-regular commutative ring.
A commutative ring $R$ is projective free provided that every finitely generated $R$-module is free. An element in a ring is strongly clean provided that it is the sum of an idempotent and a unit that commutates. Let $R$ be a projective-free ring, and let $h\in R[t]$ be a monic polynomial of degree $n$. We prove, in this article, that every $φ\in M_n(R)$ with characteristic polynomial $h$ is strongly clean, if and only if the companion matrix $C_h$ of $h$ is strongly clean, if and only if there exists a factorization $h=h_0h_1$ such that $h_0\in {\Bbb S}_0, h_1\in {\Bbb S}_1$ and $(h_0,h_1)=1$…
It is proved that a commutative ring is clean if and only if it is Gelfand with a totally disconnected maximal spectrum. Commutative rings for which each indecomposable module has a local endomorphism ring are studied. These rings are clean and elementary divisor rings.
An element $a$ in a ring $R$ is strongly J-clean if it is the sum of an idempotent and an element in the Jacobson radical that commutes. We characterize the strongly J-clean $2\times 2$ matrices over 2-projective-free non-commutative rings.
In this article, the concept of nil clean graph of a ring has been generalised to weakly nil clean graph of a ring and graph theoretic properties like girth, clique number, diameter and chromatic index of the graph have been studied for a finite commutative ring.
A ring $R$ is said to be clean if each element of $R$ can be written as the sum of a unit and an idempotent. $R$ is said to be weakly clean if each element of $R$ is either a sum or a difference of a unit and an idempotent, and $R$ is said to be feebly clean if every element $r$ can be written as $r=u+e_1-e_2$, where $u$ is a unit and $e_1,e_2$ are orthogonal idempotents. Clearly clean rings are weakly clean rings and both of them are feebly clean. In a recent article (J. Algebra Appl. 17 (2018), 1850111(5 pages)), McGoven characterized when the group ring $\mathbb Z_{(p)}[C_q]$ is weakly clea…
In this article, we have defined nil clean graph of a ring $R$. The vertex set is the ring $R$, two ring elements $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if and only if $a + b$ is nil clean in $R$. Graph theoretic properties like girth, dominating set, diameter etc. of nil clean graph have been studied for finite commutative rings.
In this paper, strongly clean ring defined by W. K. Nicholson in 1999 has been generalized to n-strongly clean, Σ-strongly clean and with the help of example it has been shown that there exists a ring, which is n-strongly clean and Σ-strongly clean but not strongly clean. It has been shown that for a commutative ring R formal power series R[(x)] of R is n-strongly clean if and only if R is n- strongly clean. We also discussed the structure of homomorphic image of n- strongly clean and direct product of n- strongly clean rings. It has also been shown that for any commutative ring R, the polynom…
In this article, we introduce a new graph theoretic structure associated with a finite commutative ring, called nil clean divisor graph. For a ring $R$, nil clean divisor graph is denoted by $G_N(R)$, where the vertex set is $\{x\in R\,:\, x\neq 0, \,\exists\, y(\neq 0, \neq x)\in R$ such that $xy$ is nil clean$\}$, two vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if $xy$ is a nil clean element. We prove some interesting results of nil clean divisor graph of a ring.
Let R be a ring and let G be a group. We prove a rather curious necessary and sufficient condition for the commutative group ring RG to be weakly nil-neat only in terms of R,G and their sections. This somewhat expands three recent results, namely those established by McGovern et al. in (J. Algebra Appl., 2015), by Danchev-McGovern in (J. Algebra, 2015) and by the present authors in (J. Taibah Univ. Sci., 2020), related to commutative nil-clean, weakly nil-clean and nil-neat group rings, respectively.
An element $a\in R$ is very clean provided that there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $ae=ea$ and either $a-e$ or $a+e$ is invertible. A ring $R$ is very clean in case every element in $R$ is very clean. We explore the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a triangular $2\times 2$ matrix ring over local rings is very clean. The very clean $2\times 2$ matrices over commutative local rings are completely determined. Applications to matrices over power series are also obtained.
An element of a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean provided that it can be written as the sum of an idempotent and a strongly nilpotent element that commute. A ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean in case each of its elements is strongly $P$-clean. We investigate, in this article, the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean. Many characterizations of such rings are obtained. The criteria on strong $P$-cleanness of $2\times 2$ matrices over commutative local rings are also determined.
This article deals mostly with the following question: when is the classical ring of quotients of a commutative ring a ring of stable range 1? We introduce the concepts of a ring of (von Neumann) regular range 1, a ring of semihereditary range 1, a ring of regular range 1, a semihereditary local ring, a regular local ring. We find relationships between the introduced classes of rings and known ones, in particular, it is established that a commutative indecomposable almost clean ring is a regular local ring. A commutative any ring of idempotent regular range 1 is an almost clean ring. It is sho…
It is shown that a commutative Bézout ring $R$ with compact minimal prime spectrum is an elementary divisor ring if and only if so is $R/L$ for each minimal prime ideal $L$. This result is obtained by using the quotient space $\mathrm{pSpec} R$ of the prime spectrum of the ring $R$ modulo the equivalence generated by the inclusion. When every prime ideal contains only one minimal prime, for instance if $R$ is arithmetical, $\mathrm{pSpec} R$ is Hausdorff and there is a bijection between this quotient space and the minimal prime spectrum $\mathrm{Min} R$, which is a homeomorphism if and only if…
A ring $R$ is called strongly clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and an idempotent that commute with each other. A recent result of Borooah, Diesl and Dorsey \cite{BDD05a} completely characterized the commutative local rings $R$ for which ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean. For a general local ring $R$ and $n>1$, however, it is unknown when the matrix ring ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean. Here we completely determine the local rings $R$ for which ${\mathbb M}_2(R)$ is strongly clean.
An element of a ring $R$ is called strongly $J^{\#}$-clean provided that it can be written as the sum of an idempotent and an element in $J^{\#}(R)$ that commute. We characterize, in this article, the strongly $J^{\#}$-cleanness of matrices over projective-free rings. These extend many known results on strongly clean matrices over commutative local rings.
An element $a$ of a ring $R$ is called perfectly clean if there exists an idempotent $e\in comm^2(a)$ such that $a-e\in U(R)$. A ring $R$ is perfectly clean in case every element in $R$ is perfectly clean. In this paper, we investigate conditions on a local ring $R$ that imply that $2\times 2$ matrix rings and triangular matrix rings are perfectly clean. We shall show that for these rings perfect cleanness and strong cleanness coincide with each other, and enhance many known results. We also obtain several criteria for such a triangular matrix ring to be perfectly $J$-clean. For instance, it i…
A *-ring $R$ is called a strongly nil-*-clean ring if every element of $R$ is the sum of a projection and a nilpotent element that commute with each other. In this article, we show that $R$ is a strongly nil-*-clean ring if and only if every idempotent in $R$ is a projection, $R$ is periodic, and $R/J(R)$ is Boolean. For any commutative *-ring $R$, we prove that the algebraic extension $R[i]$ where $i^2=μi+η$ for some $μ,η\in R$ is strongly nil-*-clean if and only if $R$ is strongly nil-*-clean and $μη$ is nilpotent. The relationships between Boolean *-rings and strongly nil-*-clean rings are …
A ring $R$ is uniquely (strongly) clean provided that for any $a\in R$ there exists a unique idempotent $e\in R \big(\in comm(a)\big)$ such that $a-e\in U(R)$. Let $R$ be a uniquely bleached ring. We prove, in this note, that $R$ is uniquely clean if and only if $R$ is abelian, and $T_n(R)$ is uniquely strongly clean for all $n\geq 1$, if and only if $R$ is abelian, $T_n(R)$ is uniquely strongly clean for some $n\geq 1$. In the commutative case, the more explicit results are obtained. These also generalize the main theorems in [6] and [7], and provide many new class of such rings.
We characterize the nil clean matrix rings over fields. As a by product, it is proved that the full matrix rings with coefficients in commutative nil-clean rings are nil-clean, and we obtain a complete characterization of the finite rank Abelian groups with nil clean endomorphism ring and the Abelian groups with strongly nil clean endomorphism ring, respectively.
A ring $R$ is feckly clean provided that for any $a\in R$ there exists an element $e\in R$ and a full element $u\in R$ such that $a=e+u, eR(1-e)\subseteq J(R)$. We prove that a ring $R$ is feckly clean if and only if for any $a\in R$, there exists an element $e\in R$ such that $V(a)\subseteq V(e), V(1-a)\subseteq V(1-e)$ and $eR(1-e)\subseteq J(R)$, if and only if for any distinct maximal ideals $M$ and $N$, there exists an element $e\in R$ such that $e\in M, 1-e\in N$ and $eR(1-e)\subseteq J(R)$, if and only if $J$-$spec(R)$ is strongly zero dimensional, if and only if $Max(R)$ is strongly ze…
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity and $C$ be an $R$-coalgebra. The ring $R$ is clean if every $ r\in R $ is the sum of a unit and an idempotent element of $R$. An $R$-module $M$ is clean if the endomorphism ring of $M$ over $R$ is clean. Moreover, every continuous module is clean. We modify this idea to the comodule and coalgebra cases. A $C$-comodule $M$ is called a clean comodule if the $C$-comodule endomorphisms of $M$ are clean. We introduced continuous comodules and proved that every continuous comodules is a clean comodule.
We introduce a complete radical formula for modules over non-commutative rings which is the equivalence of a radical formula in the setting of modules defined over commutative rings. This gives a general frame work through which known results about modules over commutative rings that satisfy the radical formula are retrieved. Examples and properties of modules that satisfy the complete radical formula are given. For instance, it is shown that a module that satisfies the complete radical formula is completely semiprime if and only if it is a subdirect product of completely prime modules. This g…
We investigate and characterize several kinds of elements such as units, idempotents, von Neumann regular, $π$-regular and clean elements for skew PBW extensions over weak compatible rings. We also study the notions of Gelfand and Harmonic rings for these families of algebras. The results presented here extend those corresponding in the literature for commutative and noncommutative rings of polynomial type.
We examine those matrix rings whose entries lie in periodic rings equipped with some additional properties. Specifically, we prove that the famous Diesl's question whether or not $R$ being nil-clean implies that $\mathbb{M}_n(R)$ is nil-clean for all $n\geq 1$ is paralleling to the corresponding implication for (Abelian, local) periodic rings. Besides, we study when the endomorphism ring $\mathrm{E}(G)$ of an Abelian group $G$ is periodic. Concretely, we establish that $\mathrm{E}(G)$ is periodic exactly when $G$ is finite as well as we find a complete necessary and sufficient condition when t…
An element of a ring is unique clean if it can be uniquely written as the sum of an idempotent and a unit. A ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean if some power of every element in $R$ is uniquely clean. In this article, we prove that a ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean if and only if for any $a\in R$, there exists an $m\in {\Bbb N}$ and a central idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a^m-e\in J(R)$, if and only if $R$ is abelian; every idempotent lifts modulo $J(R)$; and $R/P$ is torsion for all prime ideals $P$ containing the Jacobson radical $J(R)$. Further, we prove that a ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean an…
A ring with an involution * is called strongly $J$-*-clean if every element is a sum of a projection and an element of the Jacobson radical that commute. In this article, we prove several results characterizing this class of rings. It is shown that a *-ring $R$ is strongly $J$-*-clean, if and only if $R$ is uniquely clean and strongly *-clean, if and only if $R$ is uniquely strongly *-clean, that is, for any $a\in R$, there exists a unique projection $e\in R$ such that $a-e$ is invertible and $ae=ea$.
We call a ring R pointwise semicommutative if for any element a in R either l(a) or r(a) is an ideal of R. A class of pointwise semicommutative rings is a strict generalization of semicommutative rings. Since reduced rings are pointwise semicommutative, this paper studies sufficient conditions for pointwise semicommutative rings to be reduced. For a pointwise semicommutative ring R, R is strongly regular if and only if R left SF ; R is exchange if and only if R is clean; if R is semiperiodic then R/J(R) is commutative.
An element $a$ of a ring $R$ is called \emph{quasipolar} provided that there exists an idempotent $p\in R$ such that $p\in comm^2(a)$, $a+p\in U(R)$ and $ap\in R^{qnil}$. A ring $R$ is \emph{quasipolar} in case every element in $R$ is quasipolar. In this paper, we investigate quasipolarity of generalized matrix rings $K_s (R)$ for a commutative local ring $R$ and $s\in R$. We show that if $s$ is nilpotent, then $K_s(R)$ is quasipolar. We determine the conditions under which elements of $K_s (R)$ are quasipolar. It is shown that $K_s(R)$ is quasipolar if and only if $tr(A)\in J(R)$ or the equat…
For 2 by 2 matrices over commutative rings, we prove a characterization theorem for left stable range 1 elements, we show that the stable range 1 property is left-right symmetric (also) at element level, we show that all matrices with one zero row (or zero column) over Bezout rings have stable range 1. Using diagonal reduction, we characterize all the 2 by 2 integral matrices which have stable range 1 and discuss additional properties including Jacobson Lemma for stable range 1 elements. Finally, we give an example of exchange stable range 1 integral 2 by 2 matrix which is not clean.
We introduce a theory of cyclic Kummer extensions of commutative rings for partial Galois extensions of finite groups, extending some of the well-known results of the theory of Kummer extensions of commutative rings developed by A. Z. Borevich. In particular, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions to determine when a partial $n$-kummerian extension is equivalent to either a radical or a $I$-radical extension, for some subgroup $I$ of the cyclic group $C_n$.
Several topologies can be defined on the prime, the maximal and the minimal prime spectra of a commutative ring; among them, we mention the Zariski topology, the patch topology and the flat topology. By using these topologies, Tarizadeh and Aghajani obtained recently new characterizations of various classes of rings: Gelfand rings, clean rings, absolutely flat rings, $mp$ - rings, etc. The aim of this paper is to generalize some of their results to quantales, structures that constitute a good abstractization for lattices of ideals, filters and congruences. We shall study the flat and the patch …
In formulating a generalized framework to study certain noncommutative algebras naturally arising in representation theory, K. A. Brown asked if every finitely generated Hopf algebra satisfying a polynomial identity was finite over a normal commutative Hopf subalgebra. In this note we show that Radford's biproduct, applied to the enveloping algebra of the Lie superalgebra pl(1,1), provides a noetherian prime counterexample.
Let $R$ be a commutative unital ring and $a\in R.$ We introduce and study properties of a functor $aΓ_{a}(-),$ called the locally nilradical on the category of $R$-modules. $aΓ_{a}(-)$ is a generalisation of both the torsion functor (also called section functor) and Baer's lower nilradical for modules. Several local-global properties of the functor $aΓ_{a}(-)$ are established. As an application, results about reduced $R$-modules are obtained and hitherto unknown ring theoretic radicals as well as structural theorems are deduced.
A cover of a unital, associative (not necessarily commutative) ring $R$ is a collection of proper subrings of $R$ whose set-theoretic union equals $R$. If such a cover exists, then the covering number $σ(R)$ of $R$ is the cardinality of a minimal cover, and a ring $R$ is called $σ$-elementary if $σ(R) < σ(R/I)$ for every nonzero two-sided ideal $I$ of $R$. In this paper, we show that if $R$ has a finite covering number, then the calculation of $σ(R)$ can be reduced to the case where $R$ is a finite ring of characteristic $p$ and the Jacobson radical $J$ of $R$ has nilpotency 2. Our main result…
