A ring $R$ is called strongly clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and an idempotent that commute.
By {\rm SRC} factorization, Borooah, Diesl, and Dorsey
\cite{BDD051} completely determined when ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ over a commutative local ring $R$ is strongly clean.
We generalize the notion of {\rm SRC} factorization to commutative rings, prove that commutative $n$-{\rm SRC} rings $(n\ge 2)$ are precisely the commutative local rings over which ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean, and characterize strong cleanness of matrices over commutative projective-free rings having {\rm ULP}. The strongly $π$-regular property (hence, strongly clean property) of ${\mathbb M}_n(C(X,{\mathbb C}))$ with $X$ a {\rm P}-space relative to ${\mathbb C}$ is also obtained where $C(X,{\mathbb C})$ is the ring of complex valued continuous functions.
The literature about strongly clean matrices over commutative rings is quite extensive. The sharpest results are about matrices over commutative local rings, for example those by Borooah, Diesl and Dorsey. The purpose of this note is to show that, using Pierce sheaf techniques, many of the known results about matrices over commutative local rings can be extended to those over commutative clean rings in general.
An element $a\in R$ is provided that there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a-e\in U(R), ae=ea$ and $eae\in J(eRe)$. In this article, we investigate strongly rad-clean matrices over a commutative local ring. We completely determine when a $2\times 2$ matrix over a commutative local ring is strongly rad-clean.
Let $R$ be a commutative local ring. It is proved that $R$ is Henselian if and only if each $R$-algebra which is a direct limit of module finite $R$-algebras is strongly clean. So, the matrix ring $\mathbb{M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean for each integer $n>0$ if $R$ is Henselian and we show that the converse holds if either the residue class field of $R$ is algebraically closed or $R$ is an integrally closed domain or $R$ is a valuation ring. It is also shown that each $R$-algebra which is locally a direct limit of module-finite algebras, is strongly clean if $R$ is a $π$-regular commutative ring.
A commutative ring $R$ is projective free provided that every finitely generated $R$-module is free. An element in a ring is strongly clean provided that it is the sum of an idempotent and a unit that commutates. Let $R$ be a projective-free ring, and let $h\in R[t]$ be a monic polynomial of degree $n$. We prove, in this article, that every $φ\in M_n(R)$ with characteristic polynomial $h$ is strongly clean, if and only if the companion matrix $C_h$ of $h$ is strongly clean, if and only if there exists a factorization $h=h_0h_1$ such that $h_0\in {\Bbb S}_0, h_1\in {\Bbb S}_1$ and $(h_0,h_1)=1$…
In this paper, the determinants of $n\times n$ matrices over commutative finite chain rings and over commutative finite principal ideal rings are studied. The number of $n\times n$ matrices over a commutative finite chain ring ${R}$ of a fixed determinant $a$ is determined for all $a\in {R}$ and positive integers $n$. Using the fact that every commutative finite principal ideal ring is a product of commutative finite chain rings, the number of $n\times n$ matrices of a fixed determinant over a commutative finite principal ideal ring is shown to be multiplicative, and hence, it can be determine…
It is shown that every commutative arithmetic ring $R$ has $lambda$-dimension $ leq 3$. An example of a commutative Kaplansky ring with $ lambda$-dimension 3 is given. If $R$ satisfies an additional condition then $ lambda$-dim($R$)
Non-commutative Henselian rings are defined and it is shown that a local ring which is complete and separated in the topology defined by its maximal ideal is Henselian provided that it is almost commutative.
Motivated by the concept of weakly clean rings, we introduce the concept of weakly $r$-clean rings. We define an element $x$ of a ring $R$ as weakly $r$-clean if it can be expressed as $x=r+e$ or $x=r-e$ where $e$ is an idempotent and $r$ is a regular element of $R$. If all the elements of $R$ are weakly $r$-clean then $R$ is called a weakly $r$-clean ring. We discuss some of its properties in this article. Also we generalise this concept of weakly $r$-clean ring to weakly $g(x)$-$r$-clean ring, where $g(x) \in C(R)[x]$ and $C(R)$ is the centre of the ring $R$. Finally we introduce the concept…
The purpose of this article is to define and examine graded almost prime ideals over a non-commutative graded ring, and consider some cases where all graded right ideals of a non-commutative graded ring are graded almost prime.
If R is a commutative ring, we prove that every finitely generated module has a pure-composition series with indecomposable factors and any two such series are isomorphic if and only if R is a Bezout ring and a CF-ring.
A ring $R$ with an involution * is called (strongly) *-clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and a projection (that commute). All *-clean rings are clean. Va${\rm \check{s}}$ [L. Va${\rm \check{s}}$, *-Clean rings; some clean and almost clean Baer *-rings and von Neumann algebras, J. Algebra 324 (12) (2010) 3388-3400] asked whether there exists a *-ring that is clean but not *-clean and whether a unit regular and *-regular ring is strongly *-clean. In this paper, we answer both questions by several examples. Moreover, some characterizations of unit regular and *-regular rings are …
In this paper we introduce the semi-graded rings, which extend graded rings and skew PBW extensions. For this new type of non-commutative rings we will discuss some basic problems of non-commutative algebraic geometry. In particular, we will prove some elementary properties of the generalized Hilbert series, Hilbert polynomial and Gelfand-Kirillov dimension. We will extended the notion of non-commutative projective scheme to the case of semi-graded rings and we generalize the Serre-Artin-Zhang-Verevkin theorem. Some examples are included at the end of the paper.
For commutative graded rings, the concept of graded $2$-absorbing (graded weakly $2$-absorbing) ideals was introduced and examined by Al-Zoubi, Abu-Dawwas and Çeken (Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, 48 (3) (2019), 724-731) as a generalization of the concept of graded prime (graded weakly prime) ideals. Up to now, research on these topics mainly concentrated on commutative graded rings. On the other hand, graded prime ideals over non-commutative graded rings have been introduced and examined by Abu-Dawwas, Bataineh and Al-Muanger (Vietnam Journal of Mathematics, 46 (3) (2018), 6…
A ring is clean (almost clean) if each of its elements is the sum of a unit (regular element) and an idempotent. A module is clean (almost clean) if its endomorphism ring is clean (almost clean). We show that every quasi-continuous and nonsingular module is almost clean and that every right CS and right nonsingular ring is almost clean. As a corollary, all right strongly semihereditary rings, including finite $AW^*$-algebras and noetherian Leavitt path algebras in particular, are almost clean. We say that a ring $R$ is special clean (special almost clean) if each element $a$ can be decomposed …
We generalize the Wiener-Hopf factorization of Laurent series to more general commutative coefficient rings, and we give explicit formulas for the decomposition. We emphasize the algebraic nature of this factorization.
A ring is clean (resp. almost clean) if each of its elements is the sum of a unit (resp. regular element) and an idempotent. In this paper we define the analogous notion for *-rings: a *-ring is *-clean (resp. almost *-clean) if its every element is the sum of a unit (resp. regular element) and a projection. Although *-clean is a stronger notion than clean, for some *-rings we demonstrate that it is more natural to use. The theorem on cleanness of unit-regular rings from [V. P. Camillo, D. Khurana, A Characterization of Unit Regular Rings, Communications in Algebra, 29 (5) (2001) 2293-2295] is…
We introduce the concept of a weak nil clean ring, a generalization of nil clean ring, which is nothing but a ring with unity in which every element can be expressed as sum or difference of a nilpotent and an idempotent. Further if the idempotent and nilpotent commute the ring is called weak* nil clean. We characterize all $n\in \mathbb{N}$, for which $\mathbb{Z}_n$ is weak nil clean but not nil clean. We show that if $R$ is a weak* nil clean and $e$ is an idempotent in $R$, then the corner ring $eRe$ is also weak* nil clean. Also we discuss $S$-weak nil clean rings and their properties, where…
We study the so-called closed and splitting subsemimodules and submodules of a given semimodule or module, respectively. We describe lattices of subsemimodules and of closed subsemimodules and posets of splitting subsemimodules and submodules. In the case of modules a natural bijective correspondence between these posets and posets of projections is established.
An element $a$ of a ring $R$ is called perfectly clean if there exists an idempotent $e\in comm^2(a)$ such that $a-e\in U(R)$. A ring $R$ is perfectly clean in case every element in $R$ is perfectly clean. In this paper, we investigate conditions on a local ring $R$ that imply that $2\times 2$ matrix rings and triangular matrix rings are perfectly clean. We shall show that for these rings perfect cleanness and strong cleanness coincide with each other, and enhance many known results. We also obtain several criteria for such a triangular matrix ring to be perfectly $J$-clean. For instance, it i…
The purpose of this work is to extend the study of the commutative rings whose lattice of ideals can be a structure of BL-algebra as carry out by Heubo et al in 2018, to non commutative rings appointed in the work as pseudo BL-rings. We study and characterize rings whose ideals form a pseudo BL-algebra, we describe them in terms of their subdirectly irreductible factors. We obtain that these are (up to isomorphism) to a subring of a direct sums of unitary special primary rings and discrete valuation ring.
The aim of this paper is to analize the structure of BL-algebras using commutative rings. From computational considerations, we are very interested in the finite case. We present new ways to generate finite BL-algebras using commutative rings and we give summarizing statistics. Furthermore, we investigated BL-rings, i.e., commutative rings whose the lattice of ideals can be equiped with a structure of BL-algebra. A new characterization for these rings and their connections to other classes of rings are established. Also, we give examples of finite BL-rings for which their lattice of ideals is …
In this paper we discuss several constructions that lead to new examples of nil-clean, clean, and exchange rings. A characterization of the idempotents in the algebra defined by a 2-cocycle is given and used to prove some of the algebra's properties (the infinitesimal deformation case). From infinitesimal deformations we go to full deformations and prove that any formal deformation of a clean (exchange) ring is itself clean (exchange). Examples of nil-clean, clean, and exchange rings arising from poset algebras are also discussed.
An element of a ring R is called clean if it is the sum of an idempotent and a unit. A ring R is called clean if each of its element is clean. An element r \in R called regular if r = ryr for some y \in R. The ring R is regular if each of its element is regular. In this paper we define a ring is r-clean if each of its elements is the sum of a regular and an idempotent element. We give some relations between r-clean and clean rings. Finally we investigate some properties of r-clean rings.
In this paper we compute the sum of the $k$-th powers over any finite commutative unital rings, thus generalizing known results for finite fields, the rings of integers modulo $n$ or the ring of Gaussian integers modulo $n$. As an application we focus on quotient rings of the form $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}[x]/(f(x))$ for any polynomial $f\in\mathbb{Z}[x]$
Question 3 of [3] asks whether the matrix ring Mn(R) is nil clean, for any nil clean ring R. It is shown that positive answer to this question is equivalent to positive solution for Kothe's problem in the class of algebras over the field F_2. Other equivalent problems are also discussed. The classes of conjugate clean and conjugate nil clean rings, which lie strictly between uniquely (nil) clean and (nil) clean rings are introduced and investigated.
A ring $R$ is said to be $n$-clean if every element can be written as a sum of an idempotent and $n$ units. The class of these rings contains clean ring and $n$-good rings in which each element is a sum of $n$ units. In this paper, we show that for any ring $R$, the endomorphism ring of a free $R$-module of rank at least 2 is 2-clean and that the ring $B(R)$ of all $ω\times ω$ row and column-finite matrices over any ring $R$ is 2-clean. Finally, the group ring $RC_{n}$ is considered where $R$ is a local ring. \vskip 0.5cm {\bf Key words:}\quad 2-clean rings, 2-good rings, free modules, row and…
In this article, we show that for a partial skew group ring R*G, where R is a commutative ring, each non-zero ideal of R*G intersects R non-trivially if and only if R is a maximal commutative subring of R*G. As a consequence, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for simplicity; the partial skew group ring R*G is simple if and only if R is a G-simple and maximal commutative subring of R*G. We thereby generalize our previous results for skew group rings, to partial skew group rings which are not necessarily unital.
In this paper, we give sharp bounds for the homological dimensions of the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of a finite graph $E$ with coefficients in a commutative ring $K$, as well as establish a formula for calculating the homological dimensions of $L_K(E)$ when $K$ is a commutative unital algebra over a field.
It is shown that a local ring R of bounded module type is an almost maximal valuation ring if there exists a non-maximal prime ideal J such that R/J is a maximal valuation domain.
Let n be an arbitrary natural number. The class of (strongly) n-torsion clean rings is introduced and investigated. Abelian n-torsion clean rings are somewhat characterized and a complete characterization of strongly n-torsion clean rings is given in the case when n is odd. Some open questions are posed at the end.
Let $R$ be an associative ring with identity, $C(R)$ denote the center of $R$, and $g(x)$ be a polynomial in the polynomial ring $C(R)[x]$. $R$ is called strongly $g(x)$-clean if every element $r \in R$ can be written as $r=s+u$ with $g(s)=0$, $u$ a unit of $R$, and $su=us$. The relation between strongly $g(x)$-clean rings and strongly clean rings is determined, some general properties of strongly $g(x)$-clean rings are given, and strongly $g(x)$-clean rings generated by units are discussed.
Let $R$ be a finite commutative ring with identity. In this paper, we give a necessary condition for the existence of an orthogonal decomposition of the special linear Lie algebra over $R$. Additionally, we study orthogonal decompositions of the symplectic Lie algebra and the special orthogonal Lie algebra over $R$.
In this paper we introduce and study the notion of a graded (strongly) nil clean ring which is group graded. We also deal with extensions of graded (strongly) nil clean rings to graded matrix rings and to graded group rings. The question of when nil cleanness of the component, which corresponds to the neutral element of a group, implies graded nil cleanness of the whole graded ring is examined. Similar question is discussed in the case of groupoid graded rings as well.
An element of a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean provided that it can be written as the sum of an idempotent and a strongly nilpotent element that commute. A ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean in case each of its elements is strongly $P$-clean. We investigate, in this article, the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean. Many characterizations of such rings are obtained. The criteria on strong $P$-cleanness of $2\times 2$ matrices over commutative local rings are also determined.
A ring $R$ is called strongly clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and an idempotent that commute with each other. A recent result of Borooah, Diesl and Dorsey \cite{BDD05a} completely characterized the commutative local rings $R$ for which ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean. For a general local ring $R$ and $n>1$, however, it is unknown when the matrix ring ${\mathbb M}_n(R)$ is strongly clean. Here we completely determine the local rings $R$ for which ${\mathbb M}_2(R)$ is strongly clean.
In this article, we have defined nil clean graph of a ring $R$. The vertex set is the ring $R$, two ring elements $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if and only if $a + b$ is nil clean in $R$. Graph theoretic properties like girth, dominating set, diameter etc. of nil clean graph have been studied for finite commutative rings.
An element $a\in R$ is very clean provided that there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $ae=ea$ and either $a-e$ or $a+e$ is invertible. A ring $R$ is very clean in case every element in $R$ is very clean. We explore the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a triangular $2\times 2$ matrix ring over local rings is very clean. The very clean $2\times 2$ matrices over commutative local rings are completely determined. Applications to matrices over power series are also obtained.
Regarding polynomial functions on a subset $S$ of a non-commutative ring $R$, that is, functions induced by polynomials in $R[x]$ (whose variable commutes with the coefficients), we show connections between, on one hand, sets $S$ such that the integer-valued polynomials on $S$ form a ring, and, on the other hand, sets $S$ such that the set of polynomials in $R[x]$ that are zero on $S$ is an ideal of $R[x]$.
In the present work, a procedure for determining idempotents of a commutative ring having a sequence of ideals with certain properties is presented. As an application of this procedure, idempotent elements of various commutative rings are determined. Several examples are included illustrating the main results.
In this article, the concept of nil clean graph of a ring has been generalised to weakly nil clean graph of a ring and graph theoretic properties like girth, clique number, diameter and chromatic index of the graph have been studied for a finite commutative ring.
In this article, we consider the structure of graded rings, not necessarily commutative nor with unity, and study the graded weakly prime ideals. We investigate the graded rings in which all graded ideals are graded weakly prime. Several properties are given, and several examples to support given propositions are constructed. We initiate the study of graded weakly total prime ideals and investigate graded rings for which every proper graded ideal is graded weakly total prime.
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Lie ring of skew-adjoint matrices over a commutative $*$-ring is an inner derivation. We also apply our technique to various Lie algebras of infinite-dimensional skew-adjoint matrix-valued maps on a set and prove that every 2-local spatial derivation on such algebras is a spatial derivation. We also show that every local spatial derivation on the above Lie algebras is a derivation.
We begin by investigating the class of commutative unital rings in which no two distinct elements divide the same elements. We prove that this class forms a finitely axiomatizable, relatively ideal distributive quasivariety, and it equals the quasivariety generated by the class of integral domains with trivial unit group. We end the paper by proving a representation theorem that provides more evidence to the conjecture that Bézout monoids describe exactly the monoids of finitely generated ideals of commutative unital rings with distributive ideal lattice.
A *-ring $R$ is called a strongly nil-*-clean ring if every element of $R$ is the sum of a projection and a nilpotent element that commute with each other. In this article, we show that $R$ is a strongly nil-*-clean ring if and only if every idempotent in $R$ is a projection, $R$ is periodic, and $R/J(R)$ is Boolean. For any commutative *-ring $R$, we prove that the algebraic extension $R[i]$ where $i^2=μi+η$ for some $μ,η\in R$ is strongly nil-*-clean if and only if $R$ is strongly nil-*-clean and $μη$ is nilpotent. The relationships between Boolean *-rings and strongly nil-*-clean rings are …
An element $a$ of a ring $R$ is called \emph{strongly $J$-clean} provided that there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a-e\in J(R)$ and $ae=ea$. A ring $R$ is \emph{strongly $J$-clean} in case every element in $R$ is strongly $J$-clean. In this paper, we investigate strong $J$-cleanness of $M_2(R;s)$ for a local ring $R$ and $s\in R$. We determine the conditions under which elements of $M_2(R;s)$ are strongly $J$-clean.
In this paper using the connections between some subvarieties of residuated lattices, we investigated some properties of the lattice of ideals in commutative and unitary rings. We give new characterizations for commutative rings $A$ in which $Id(A)$ is an MV-algebra, a Heyting algebra or a Boolean algebra and we establish connections between these types of rings. We are very interested in the finite case and we present summarizing statistics. We show that the lattice of ideals in a finite commutative ring of the form $A=% \mathbb{Z}_{k_{1}}\times \mathbb{Z}_{k_{2}}\times ...\times \mathbb{Z}% …
An element $a$ in a ring $R$ is strongly J-clean if it is the sum of an idempotent and an element in the Jacobson radical that commutes. We characterize the strongly J-clean $2\times 2$ matrices over 2-projective-free non-commutative rings.
Orthogonal decomposition of the special linear Lie algebra over the complex numbers was studied in the early 1980s and attracted further attentions in the past decade due to its application in quantum information theory. In this paper, we study this decomposition problem of the special linear Lie algebra over a finite commutative ring with identity.
Let $A$ be a commutative augmented ring and $I$ be its augmentation ideal. This paper shows that the sequence $\{I^n/I^{n+1}\}$ becomes stationary up to isomorphism. The result yields stability in the associated graded ring of $A$ along $I$.
