In this paper we study the linear Weingarten equation defined by the fully non-linear PDE
$$a\, \mbox{div}\frac{Du}{\sqrt{1+|Du|^2}}+b\, \frac{\mbox{det}D^2u}{(1+|Du|^2)^2}=ϕ\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{1+|Du|^2}}\right)$$ in a domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^2$, where $ϕ\in C^1([-1,1])$ and $a,b\in\mathbb{R}$. We approach the existence of radial solutions when $Ω$ is a disk of small radius, giving an affirmative answer when the PDE is of elliptic type. In the hyperbolic case we show that no radial solution exists, while in the parabolic case we find explicitly all the solutions. Finally, in the elliptic case we prove uniqueness and symmetry results concerning the Dirichlet problem of such equation.
In this paper, we consider prescribed shifted Gauss curvature equations for horo-convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Under some sufficient condition, we obtain an existence result by the standard degree theory based on the a prior estimates for the solutions to the equations. Different from the prescribed Weingarten curvature problem in space forms, we do not impose a sign condition for radial derivative of the functions in the right-hand side of the equations to prove the existence due to the horo-covexity of hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$.
We investigate on the existence of smooth complete hypersurface with prescribed Weingarten curvature and asymptotic boundary at infinity in hyperbolic space under the assumption that there exists an asymptotic subsolution. We give an affirmative answer for the case $k = n$ when the asymptotic boundary $Γ$ bounds a uniformly convex domain, and for $k < n$ when $Γ$ bounds a disk, utilizing Pogorelov type interior second order estimate. Our result complements our previous work \cite{Sui2019, Sui-Sun}, and generalizes the asymptotic Plateau type problem to non-constant prescribed curvature case.
In this paper we study the scattering of radial solutions to a $l$-component system of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with quadratic-type growth interactions in dimension five. Our approach is based on the recent technique introduced by Dodson and Murphy, which relies on the radial Sobolev embedding and a Morawetz estimate.
We study a class of Hartree type equations and prove a quantitative blow up rate for their blow up solutions. This is an analogue of the result by Merle and Raphaël on 3d NLS.
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of positive radial solutions for a class of fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations posed in the complement of a ball in $\mathbb R^N$, and equipped with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions.
In this note we study existence of positive radial solutions in annuli and exterior domains for a class of nonlinear equations driven by Pucci extremal operators subject to a Hénon type weight. Our approach is based on the shooting method applied to the corresponding ODE problem, energy arguments, and the associated flow of an autonomous quadratic dynamical system.
We consider degenerated nonlinear PDE of elliptic type: $$ - \mathrm{div}(a(|x|)|\nabla w(x)|^{p-2} \nabla w(x)) + h(|x|,w(x),\langle\nabla w(x),\frac{x}{|x|}\rangle)=ϕ(w(x)), $$ where $x$ belongs to the ball in $\bf{R}^n$. Using the argument based on Opial-type inequalities, we investigate qualitative properties of their radial solutions, like e.g. maximum principles, monotonicity, as well as nonexistence of the nontrivial solutions.
Following our previous paper in the radial case, we consider blow-up type II solutions to the energy-critical focusing wave equation. Let W be the unique radial positive stationary solution of the equation. Up to the symmetries of the equation, under an appropriate smallness assumption, any type II blow-up solution is asymptotically a regular solution plus a rescaled Lorentz transform of W concentrating at the origin.
We study radial viscosity solutions to the equation \[ -\ |Du\ |^{q-2}Δ_{p}^{N}u=f(\ |x\ |)\quad\text{in }B_{R}\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}, \] where $f\in C[0,R)$, $p,q\in(1,\infty)$ and $N\geq2$. Our main result is that $u(x)=v(\ |x\ |)$ is a bounded viscosity supersolution if and only if $v$ is a bounded weak supersolution to $-κΔ_{q}^{d}v=f$ in $(0,R)$, where $κ>0$ and $Δ_{q}^{d}$ is heuristically speaking the radial $q$-Laplacian in a fictitious dimension $d$. As a corollary we obtain the uniqueness of radial viscosity solutions. However, the full uniqueness of solutions remains an open problem.
Consider the energy critical focusing wave equation on the Euclidian space. A blow-up type II solution of this equation is a solution which has finite time of existence but stays bounded in the energy space. The aim of this work is to exhibit universal properties of such solutions. Let W be the unique radial positive stationary solution of the equation. Our main result is that in dimension 3, under an appropriate smallness assumption, any type II blow-up radial solution is essentially the sum of a rescaled W concentrating at the origin and a small remainder which is continuous with respect to …
In this article we consider the system of equations Δu_{i}=p_{i}(x)f_{i}(u_{1},...,u_{d}) for i=1,...,d on R^{N}, N\geq3 and d\in{1,2,3,4,...}. We prove that the considered system has a bounded positive entire solution under some conditions on p_{i} and f_{i}. Also, we give a necessary condition as well as a sufficient condition for a positive radial solution to be large. The method of proving theorems is essentially based on a successive approximation. Furthermore, a non-radially symmetric solution is obtained by using a lower and upper solution method.
We consider the focusing energy-critical wave equation in space dimension $N\in \{3, 4, 5\}$ for radial data. We study type II blow-up solutions which concentrate one bubble of energy. It is known that such solutions decompose in the energy space as a sum of the bubble and an asymptotic profile. We prove bounds on the blow-up speed in the case when the asymptotic profile is sufficiently regular. These bounds are optimal in dimension $N = 5$. We also prove that if the asymptotic profile is sufficiently regular, then it cannot be strictly negative at the origin.
Given $n \in \{ 3,4 \}$ (resp. $n=5$) and $k > 1$ (resp. $\frac{4}{3} > k > 1$), we prove scattering of the radial $\tilde{H}^{k}:= \dot{H}^{k}(\mathbb{R}^{n}) \cap \dot{H}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ solutions of the loglog energy-supercritical Schrodinger equation $i \partial_{t} u + \triangle u = |u|^{\frac{4}{n-2}}u log^γ (\log( 10 + |u|^{2} ))$ for $0 < γ< γ_{n}$. In order to control the barely supercritical nonlinearity for nonsmooth solutions, i.e solutions with data in $\tilde{H}^{k}$, $k \leq \frac{n}{2}$, we prove some Jensen-type inequalities.
We study a class of isoperimetric problems on $\mathbb{R}^{N}_{+} $ where the densities of the weighted volume and weighted perimeter are given by two different non-radial functions of the type $|x|^k x_N^α$. Our results imply some sharp functional inequalities, like for instance, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities.
In this paper we study the Plateau problem for disk-type surfaces contained in conic regions of $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ and with prescribed mean curvature $H$. Assuming a suitable growth condition on $H$, we prove existence of a least energy $H$-surface $X$ spanning an arbitrary Jordan curve $Γ$ taken in the cone. Then we address the problem of describing such surface $X$ as radial graph when the Jordan curve $Γ$ admits a radial representation. Assuming a suitable monotonicity condition on the mapping $λ\mapstoλH(λp)$ and some strong convexity-type condition on the radial projection of the Jordan cur…
We consider non-autonomous semilinear elliptic equations of the type \[ -Δu = |x|^α f(u), \ \ x \in Ω, \ \ u=0 \quad \text{on} \ \ \partial Ω, \] where $Ω\subset {\mathbb R}^2$ is either a ball or an annulus centered at the origin, $α>0$ and $f: {\mathbb R}\ \rightarrow {\mathbb R}$ is $C^{1, β}$ on bounded sets of ${\mathbb R}$. We address the question of estimating the Morse index $m(u)$ of a sign changing radial solution $u$. We prove that $m(u) \geq 3$ for every $α>0$ and that $m(u)\geq α+ 3$ if $α$ is even. If $f$ is superlinear the previous estimates become $m(u) \geq n(u)+2$ and $m(u) \…
We solve globally a radial cubic Dirac equation perturbed with a small potential, with data of small critical norm $H^{1}$. The main tool are new endpoint estimates of the perturbed Dirac flow for a class of radial-type initial data.
We consider the semilinear heat equation in large dimension $d\geq 11$ $$ \partial_t u =Δu+|u| ^{p-1}u, \ \ p=2q+1, \ \ q\in \mathbb N $$ on a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^d$ with Dirichlet boundary condition. In the supercritical range $p\geq p(d)>1+\frac{4}{d-2}$ we prove the existence of a countable family $(u_\ell)_{\ell \in \mathbb N}$ of solutions blowing-up at time $T>0$ with type II blow up: $$ \parallel u_{\ell}(t) \parallel_{L^{\infty}} \sim C (T-t)^{-c_\ell} $$ with blow-up speed $c_\ell>\frac{1}{p-1}$. They concentrate the ground state $Q$ being the only radially and d…
Symmetries and conservation laws are studied for two classes of physically and analytically interesting radial wave equations with power nonlinearities in multi-dimensions. The results consist of two main classifications: all symmetries of point type and all conservation laws of a general energy-momentum type are explicitly determined, including those such as dilations, inversions, similarity energies and conformal energies that exist only for special powers or dimensions. In particular, all variational cases (when a Lagrangian formulation exists) and non-variational cases (when no Lagrangian …
