85 pages with many figures. This is a combined version of arXiv:2101.01943 and arXiv:2107.04283. The part of Lagrangian fillings with rotational or conjugation symmetry has been completely revised. Relative cycles of Lagrangian fillings are investigated concerning frozen variables in the A-cluster structure
We prove that there are at least as many exact embedded Lagrangian fillings as seeds for Legendrian links of finite type $\mathsf{ADE}$ or affine type $\tilde{\mathsf{D}} \tilde{\mathsf{E}}$. We also provide as many Lagrangian fillings with rotational symmetry as seeds of type $\mathsf{B}$, $\mathsf{G}_2$, $\tilde{\mathsf{G}}_2$, $\tilde{\mathsf{B}}$, or $\tilde{\mathsf{C}}_2$, and with conjugation symmetry as seeds of type $\mathsf{F}_4$, $\mathsf{C}$, $\mathsf{E}_6^{(2)}$, $\tilde{\mathsf{F}}_4$, or $\mathsf{A}_5^{(2)}$. These families are the first known Legendrian links with (infinitely many) exact Lagrangian fillings (with symmetry) that exhaust all seeds in the corresponding cluster structures beyond type $\mathsf{A} \mathsf{D}$. Furthermore, we show that the $N$-graph realization of (twice of) Coxeter mutation of type $\tilde{\mathsf{D}} \tilde{\mathsf{E}}$ corresponds to a Legendrian loop of the corresponding Legendrian links. Especially, the loop of type $\tilde{\mathsf{D}}$ coincides with the one considered by Casals and Ng.
We prove that there are at least as many exact embedded Lagrangian fillings as seeds for Legendrian links of affine type $\tilde{\mathsf{D}} \tilde{\mathsf{E}}$. We also provide as many Lagrangian fillings with certain symmetries as seeds of type $\tilde{\mathsf{B}}_n$, $\tilde{\mathsf{F}}_4$, $\tilde{\mathsf{G}}_2$, and $\mathsf{E}_6^{(2)}$. These families are the first known Legendrian links with infinitely many fillings that exhaust all seeds in the corresponding cluster structures. Furthermore, we show that Legendrian realization of Coxeter mutation of type $\tilde{\mathsf{D}}$ corresponds…
We prove that there are at least seeds many exact embedded Lagrangian fillings for Legendrian links of type $\mathsf{ADE}$. We also provide seeds many Lagrangian fillings with certain symmetries for type $\mathsf{BCFG}$. Our main tools are $N$-graphs and the combinatorics of seed patterns of finite type.
We characterize which Legendrian $4$-plat knots in the standard contact $3$-space have exact orientable Lagrangian fillings. As a corollary, we show that the underlying smooth knot types of fillable Legendrian $4$-plats are positive.
First, we show that conjugate Lagrangian fillings, associated to plabic graphs, and Lagrangian fillings obtained as Reeb pinching sequences are both Hamiltonian isotopic to Lagrangian projections of Legendrian weaves. In general, we establish a series of new Reidemeister moves for hybrid Lagrangian surfaces. These allow for explicit combinatorial isotopies between the different types of Lagrangian fillings and we use them to show that Legendrian weaves indeed generalize these previously known combinatorial methods to construct Lagrangian fillings. This generalization is strict, as weaves are t…
In this paper, we construct the first families of distinct Lagrangian ribbon disks in the standard symplectic 4-ball which have the same boundary Legendrian knots, and are not smoothly isotopic or have non-homeomorphic exteriors.
In this note, we classify Stein fillings of an infinite family of contact 3-manifolds up to diffeomorphism. Some contact 3-manifolds in this family can be obtained by Legendrian surgeries on $(S^3,ξ_{std})$ along certain Legendrian 2-bridge knots. We also classify Stein fillings, up to symplectic deformation, of an infinite family of contact 3-manifolds which can be obtained by Legendrian surgeries on $(S^3,ξ_{std})$ along certain Legendrian twist knots. As a corollary, we obtain a classification of Stein fillings of an infinite family of contact hyperbolic 3-manifolds up to symplectic deforma…
For a Legendrian $(2,n)$ torus knot or link with maximal Thurston-Bennequin number, Ekholm, Honda, and Kálmán constructed $C_n$ exact Lagrangian fillings, where $C_n$ is the $n$-th Catalan number. We show that these exact Lagrangian fillings are pairwise non-isotopic through exact Lagrangian isotopy. To do that, we compute the augmentations induced by the exact Lagrangian fillings $L$ to $\mathbb{Z}_2[H_1(L)]$ and distinguish the resulting augmentations.
We investigate when a Legendrian knot in standard contact $\mathbb{R}^3$ has a non-orientable exact Lagrangian filling. We prove analogs of several results in the orientable setting, develop new combinatorial obstructions to fillability, and determine when several families of knots have such fillings. In particular, we determine completely when an alternating knot (and more generally a plus-adequate knot) is decomposably non-orientably fillable, and classify the fillability of most torus and 3-strand pretzel knots. We also describe rigidity phenomena of decomposable non-orientable fillings, in…
We present the first examples of elements in the fundamental group of the space of Legendrian links in the standard contact 3-sphere whose action on the Legendrian contact DGA is of infinite order. This allows us to construct the first families of Legendrian links that can be shown to admit infinitely many Lagrangian fillings by Floer-theoretic techniques. These families include the first known Legendrian links with infinitely many fillings that are not rainbow closures of positive braids, and the smallest Legendrian link with infinitely many fillings known to date. We discuss how to use our e…
For a Legendrian link $Λ\subset J^1M$ with $M = \mathbb{R}$ or $S^1$, immersed exact Lagrangian fillings $L \subset \mbox{Symp}(J^1M) \cong T^*(\mathbb{R}_{>0} \times M)$ of $Λ$ can be lifted to conical Legendrian fillings $Σ\subset J^1(\mathbb{R}_{>0} \times M)$ of $Λ$. When $Σ$ is embedded, using the version of functoriality for Legendrian contact homology (LCH) from [30], for each augmentation $α: \mathcal{A}(Σ) \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}/2$ of the LCH algebra of $Σ$, there is an induced augmentation $ε_{(Σ,α)}: \mathcal{A}(Λ) \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}/2$. With $Σ$ fixed, the set of homotopy class…
Many interesting spaces --- including all positroid strata and wild character varieties --- are moduli of constructible sheaves on a surface with microsupport in a Legendrian link. We show that the existence of cluster structures on these spaces may be deduced in a uniform, systematic fashion by constructing and taking the sheaf quantizations of a set of exact Lagrangian fillings in correspondence with isotopy representatives whose front projections have crossings with alternating orientations. It follows in turn that results in cluster algebra may be used to construct and distinguish exact La…
An exact Lagrangian submanifold $L$ in the symplectization of standard contact $(2n-1)$-space with Legendrian boundary $Σ$ can be glued to itself along $Σ$. This gives a Legendrian embedding $Λ(L,L)$ of the double of $L$ into contact $(2n+1)$-space. We show that the Legendrian isotopy class of $Λ(L,L)$ is determined by formal data: the manifold $L$ together with a trivialization of its complexified tangent bundle. In particular, if $L$ is a disk then $Λ(L,L)$ is the Legendrian unknot.
We study Legendrian surfaces determined by cubic planar graphs. Graphs with distinct chromatic polynomials determine surfaces that are not Legendrian isotopic, thus giving many examples of non-isotopic Legendrian surfaces with the same classical invariants. The Legendrians have no exact Lagrangian fillings, but have many interesting non-exact fillings. We obtain these results by studying sheaves on a three-ball with microsupport in the surface. The moduli of such sheaves has a concrete description in terms of the graph and a beautiful embedding as a holomorphic Lagrangian submanifold of a symp…
This paper completely answers the question of when contact (r)-surgery on a Legendrian knot in the standard contact structure on the 3-sphere yields a symplectically fillable contact manifold for r in (0,1]. We also give obstructions for other positive r and investigate Lagrangian fillings of Legendrian knots.
We prove that all maximal-tb Legendrian torus links (n,m) in the standard contact 3-sphere, except for (2,m),(3,3),(3,4) and (3,5), admit infinitely many Lagrangian fillings in the standard symplectic 4-ball. This is proven by constructing infinite order Lagrangian concordances which induce faithful actions of the modular group PSL(2,Z) and the mapping class group M(0,4) into the coordinate rings of algebraic varieties associated to Legendrian links. Our results imply that there exist Lagrangian concordance monoids with subgroups of exponential-growth, and yield Stein surfaces homotopic to a 2…
We establish new examples of augmentations of Legendrian twist knots that cannot be induced by orientable Lagrangian fillings. To do so, we use a version of the Seidel-Ekholm-Dimitroglou Rizell isomorphism with local coefficients to show that any Lagrangian filling point in the augmentation variety of a Legendrian knot must lie in the injective image of an algebraic torus with dimension equal to the first Betti number of the filling. This is a Floer-theoretic version of a result from microlocal sheaf theory. For the augmentations in question, we show that no such algebraic torus can exist.
Given an immersed, Maslov-$0$, exact Lagrangian filling of a Legendrian knot, if the filling has a vanishing index and action double point, then through Lagrangian surgery it is possible to obtain a new immersed, Maslov-$0$, exact Lagrangian filling with one less double point and with genus increased by one. We show that it is not always possible to reverse the Lagrangian surgery: not every immersed, Maslov-$0$, exact Lagrangian filling with genus $g \geq 1$ and $p$ double points can be obtained from such a Lagrangian surgery on a filling of genus $g-1$ with $p+1$ double points. To show this, …
For $1$-dimensional Legendrian submanifolds of $1$-jet spaces, we extend the functorality of the Legendrian contact homology DG-algebra (DGA) from embedded exact Lagrangian cobordisms, as in \cite{EHK}, to a class of immersed exact Lagrangian cobordisms by considering their Legendrian lifts as conical Legendrian cobordisms. To a conical Legendrian cobordism $Σ$ from $Λ_-$ to $Λ_+$, we associate an immersed DGA map, which is a diagram $$\alg(Λ_+) \stackrel{f}{\rightarrow} \alg(Σ) \stackrel{i}{\hookleftarrow} \alg(Λ_-), $$ where $f$ is a DGA map and $i$ is an inclusion map. This construction giv…
If a Legendrian knot $Λ$ in the standard contact 3-sphere bounds an orientable exact Lagrangian surface $Σ$ in the standard symplectic 4-ball, then the genus of $Σ$ is equal to the slice genus of (the smooth knot underlying) $Λ$, the sum of the Thurston-Bennequin number of L and the Euler characteristic of $Σ$ is zero as well as the rotation number of $Λ$, and moreover, the linearized contact homology of $Λ$ with respect to the augmentation induced by $Σ$ is isomorphic to the (singular) homology of $Σ$. It was asked in arXiv:1212.1519 whether the converse of this statement is true. We give a n…
We construct closed arboreal Lagrangian skeleta associated to links of isolated plane curve singularities. This yields closed arboreal Lagrangian skeleta for Weinstein pairs and Weinstein 4-manifolds associated to max-tb Legendrian representatives of algebraic links. We provide computations of Legendrian and Weinstein invariants, and discuss the symplectic topological nature of the Fomin-Pylyavskyy-Shustin-Thurston cluster algebra associated to a singularity. Finally, we present a conjectural ADE-classification for Lagrangian fillings of certain Legendrian links and list some related problems.
We study a class of Legendrian surfaces in contact five-folds by encoding their wavefronts via planar combinatorial structures. We refer to these surfaces as Legendrian weaves, and to the combinatorial objects as N-graphs. First, we develop a diagrammatic calculus which encodes contact geometric operations on Legendrian surfaces as multi-colored planar combinatorics. Second, we present an algebraic-geometric characterization for the moduli space of microlocal constructible sheaves associated to these Legendrian surfaces. Then we use these N-graphs and the flag moduli description of these Legen…
We show that the minimal symplectic area of Lagrangian submanifolds are universally bounded in symplectically aspherical domains with vanishing symplectic cohomology. If an exact domain admits a $k$-semi-dilation, then the minimal symplectic area is universally bounded for $K(π,1)$-Lagrangians. As a corollary, we show that Arnol'd chord conjecture holds for the following four cases: (1) $Y$ admits an exact filling with $SH^*(W)=0$ (for some ring coefficient); (2) $Y$ admits a symplectically aspherical filling with $SH^*(W)=0$ and simply connected Legendrians; (3) $Y$ admits an exact filling wi…
We show that any knot which is smoothly the closure of a 3-braid cannot be Lagrangian concordant to and from the maximum Thurston-Bennequin Legendrian unknot except the unknot itself. Our obstruction comes from drawing the Weinstein handlebody diagrams of particular symplectic fillings of cyclic branched double covers of knots in $S^3$. We use the Legendrian contact homology differential graded algebra of the links in these diagrams to compute the symplectic homology of these fillings to derive a contradiction. As a corollary, we find an infinite family of contact manifolds which are rational …
We derive constraints on Lagrangian concordances from Legendrian submanifolds of the standard contact sphere admitting exact Lagrangian fillings. More precisely, we show that such a concordance induces an isomorphism on the level of bilinearised Legendrian contact cohomology. This is used to prove the existence of non-invertible exact Lagrangian concordances in all dimensions. In addition, using a result of Eliashberg-Polterovich, we completely classify exact Lagrangian concordances from the Legendrian unknot to itself in the tight contact-three sphere: every such concordance is the trace of a…
In this short note we discuss high-dimensional examples of Legendrian submanifolds of the standard contact Euclidean space with an infinite number of exact Lagrangian fillings up to Hamiltonian isotopy. They are obtained from the examples of Casals and Ng by applying to them the spherical spinning construction.
Embedded Lagrangian cobordisms between Legendrian submanifolds are produced from isotopy, spinning, and handle attachment constructions that employ the technique of generating families. Moreover, any Legendrian with a generating family has an immersed Lagrangian filling with a compatible generating family. These constructions are applied in several directions, in particular to a non-classical geography question: any graded group satisfying a duality condition can be realized as the generating family homology of a connected Legendrian submanifold in R^{2n+1} or in the 1-jet space of any compact…
We show that an exact Lagrangian cobordism $L\subset \mathbb R \times P \times \mathbb R$ from a Legendrian submanifold $Λ\subset P\times \mathbb R$ to itself satisfies $H_i(L;\mathbb F)=H_i(Λ;\mathbb F)$ for any field $\mathbb F$ in the case when $Λ$ admits a spin exact Lagrangian filling and the concatenation of any spin exact Lagrangian filling of $Λ$ and $L$ is also spin. The main tool used is Seidel's isomorphism in wrapped Floer homology. In contrast to that, for loose Legendrian submanifolds of $\mathbb{C}^n \times \mathbb R$, we construct examples of such cobordisms whose homology grou…
