We calculate the complete $T$ matrices of the elastic nucleon-nucleon scattering up to third order in SU(3) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The phase shifts with orbital angular momentum $L\geq 2$ and the mixing angles with $J\geq 2$ are evaluated by using low-energy constants that were extracted from the meson-baryon analysis. It turns out that our prediction is consistent with the empirical phase shifts and mixing angles data, and also the results from SU(2) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The errors from the low-energy constants are analyzed in detail. Our calculation provides reliable evidence that the nucleon-nucleon interaction calculated in SU(3) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory leads to reasonable predictions.
We study the two-nucleon force at next-to-next-to-leading order in a chiral effective field theory with explicit Delta degrees of freedom. Fixing the appearing low-energy constants from a next-to-leading order calculation of pion-nucleon threshold parameters, we find an improved convergence of most peripheral nucleon-nucleon phases compared to the theory with pions and nucleons only. In the delta-full theory, the next-to-leading order corrections are dominant in most partial waves considered.
Peripheral nucleon-nucleon scattering is analysed in the framework of an effective field theory. Distorted-wave methods are used to remove the effects of one-pion exchange. Two-pion exchange and recoil corrections to one-pion exchange are then subtracted pertubatively. This removes all contributions up to order Q^3 in the chiral expansion. We have applied this to the 1D2, 1F3 and 1G4 waves, using phase shifts from various partial-wave analyses by the Nijmegen group. In regions where these analyses agree we find no evidence for a breakdown of the chiral expansion. One of the terms in the effect…
We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction up to next-to-next-to-leading order using time-ordered perturbation theory in the framework of manifestly Lorentz-invariant chiral effective field theory. We present the two-pion exchange contribution at one-loop level, which is consistent with the corresponding non-relativistic expressions in the large-nucleon-mass limit. Using the Born series truncated at one-loop order, we calculate the phase shifts and mixing angles of the partial waves with the angular momentum $l\geq 2$. Comparing with the results of non-relativistic formulation, we find an improv…
In our recent works we derived a chiral $O(q^4)$ two-pion exchange nucleon-nucleon potential (TPEP) formulated in a relativistic baryon (RB) framework, expressed in terms of the so called low energy constants (LECs) and functions representing covariant loop integrations. We showed that the expansion of these functions in powers of the inverse of the nucleon mass reproduces most of the terms of the TPEP derived from the heavy baryon (HB) formalism, but such an expansion is ill defined and does not converge at large distances. In the present work we perform a study of the phase shifts in nucleon…
Multi-nucleon transfer in $^{86}$Kr+$^{64}$Ni at an incident energy of 25 MeV/nucleon is for the first time investigated with a microscopic dynamics model: improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model. The measured isotope distributions are reasonably well reproduced by using the ImQMD model together with a statistical code (GEMINI) for describing the secondary decay of fragments. The reaction mechanism is explored with the microscopic dynamics simulations from central to peripheral collisions. In central collisions there exists a strong competition among fusion, deep-inelastic scattering…
We derive simple and physically transparent expressions for the contribution of the strong interaction to one nucleon removal processes in peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions. The coherent contribution,i.e, the excitation of a giant dipole resonance via meson exchange is shown to be negligible as well as interference between coulomb and nuclear excitation. Incoherent nucleon knock out contribution is also derived suggesting the nature of the nuclear interaction in this class of processes. We also justify the simple formulae used to fit the data of the E814 Collaboration.
We apply five subtractions in the Lippman-Schwinger (LS) equation in order to perform a non-perturbative renormalization of chiral N3LO nucleon-nucleon interactions. Here we compute the phase shifts for the uncoupled peripheral waves at renormalization scales between $0.1~ \rm{fm}^{-1}$ and $1 ~ \rm{fm}^{-1}$. In this range, the results are scale invariant and provide an overall goof agreement with the Nijmegen partial wave analysis up to at least $E_{\rm{lab}} = 150 ~ \rm{MeV}$, with a cutoff at $Λ= 30~\rm{fm}^{-1}$.
We present the two- and three-pion exchange contributions to the nucleon-nucleon interaction which occur at next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N4LO, fifth order) of chiral effective field theory, and calculate nucleon-nucleon scattering in peripheral partial waves with L>=3 using low-energy constants that were extracted from pi-N analysis at fourth order. While the net three-pion exchange contribution is moderate, the two-pion exchanges turn out to be sizeable and prevailingly repulsive, thus, compensating the excessive attraction characteristic for NNLO and N3LO. As a result, the …
The nucleon's peripheral transverse charge and magnetization densities are computed in chiral effective field theory. The densities are represented in first-quantized form, as overlap integrals of chiral light-front wave functions describing the transition of the nucleon to soft pion-nucleon intermediate states. The orbital motion of the pion causes a large left-right asymmetry in a transversely polarized nucleon. The effect attests to the relativistic nature of chiral dynamics [pion momenta k = O(M_pi)] and could be observed in form factor measurements at low momentum transfer.
We analyze the peripheral structure of the nucleon-nucleon interaction for LAB energies below 350 MeV. To this end we transform the scattering matrix into the impact parameter representation by analyzing the scaled phase shifts $(L+1/2) δ_{JLS} (p)$ and the scaled mixing parameters $(L+1/2)ε_{JLS}(p)$ in terms of the impact parameter $b=(L+1/2)/p$. According to the eikonal approximation, at large angular momentum $L$ these functions should become an universal function of $b$, {\it independent} on $L$. This allows to discuss in a rather transparent way the role of statistical and systematic unc…
We present here the system size dependence of balance energy for semi-central and peripheral collisions using quantum molecular dynamics model. For this study, the reactions of $Ne^{20}+Ne^{20}$, $Ca^{40}+Ca^{40}$, $Ni^{58}+Ni^{58}$, $Nb^{93}+Nb^{93}$, $Xe^{131}+Xe^{131}$ and $Au^{197}+Au^{197}$ are simulated at different incident energies and impact parameters. A hard equation of state along with nucleon-nucleon cross-sections between 40 - 55 mb explains the data nicely. Interestingly, balance energy follows a power law $\propto{A^τ}$ for the mass dependence at all colliding geometries. The p…
Magnetic field effects on free nucleons are studied in peripheral collisions of $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au at energies ranging from 600 to 1500 MeV/nucleon by utilizing an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. With the help of angular distributions and two-particle angular correlators, the magnetic field effect at an impact parameter of 11 fm is found to be more obvious than at an impact parameter of 8 fm. Moreover, the results suggest that with an increase in the number of peripheral collisions, protons are more easily condensed with the magnetic field. Magnetic field effect…
The NN results are presented from the extended-soft-core (ESC) interactions. They cosist of local- and non-local-potentials due to (i) one-boson-exchange (OBE), pseudo-scalar-, vector-, scalar-, and axial-vector-nonets, (ii) diffractive exchanges, (iii) two-pseudoscalar-exchange, and (iv) meson-pair-exchange (MPE). Fits to the pp- and np-data for 0 < T(lab) < 350 MeV have typical χ^2/Ndata= 1.15. Used are less than 20 parameters, which are coupling constants and cut-off masses. The couplings follow rather closely the pattern predicted by the quark-pair-creation model. As a result the 11 OBE-co…
The nucleon's electromagnetic form factors are expressed in terms of the transverse densities of charge and magnetization at fixed light-front time. At peripheral transverse distances $b = O(M_π^{-1})$ the densities are governed by chiral dynamics and can be calculated model-independently using chiral effective field theory (EFT). We represent the leading-order chiral EFT results for the peripheral transverse densities as overlap integrals of chiral light-front wave functions, describing the transition of the initial nucleon to soft pion-nucleon intermediate states and back. The new representa…
We analyze the power counting of the peripheral singlet partial waves in nucleon-nucleon scattering. In agreement with conventional wisdom, we find that pion exchanges are perturbative in the peripheral singlets. We quantify from the effective field theory perspective the well-known suppression induced by the centrifugal barrier in the pion-exchange interactions. By exploring perturbation theory up to fourth order, we find that the one-pion-exchange potential in these channels is demoted from leading to subleading order by a given power of the expansion parameter that grows with the orbital an…
We have studied the fragment yields emitted from the fragmentation of excited projectile nuclei in peripheral collisions of 136Xe+Pb at 1 GeV/nucleon, and measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer, the Fragment Separator (FRS) of GSI. The mass, charge and isotope distributions of nuclear fragments formed in the reactions were calculated within a statistical ensemble approach and compared to the experimental data. The ensemble of excited projectilelike source nuclei were created in the framework of a previous analysis of similar reactions performed at 600 MeV/nucleon (ALADIN-exper…
Within the one-loop approximation of baryon chiral perturbation theory we calculate all one-pion and two-pion exchange contributions to the nucleon-nucleon interaction. In fact we construct the elastic NN-scattering amplitude up to and including third order in small momenta. The phase shifts with orbital angular momentum $L\geq2 $ and the mixing angles with $J\geq2$ are given parameterfree and thus allow for a detailed test of chiral symmetry in the two-nucleon system. We find that for the D-waves the $2π$-exchange corrections are too large as compared with empirical phase shifts, signaling th…
Experimental data concerning binary events in peripheral collisions for the systems 93Nb+93Nb and 93Nb+116Sn at 38 MeV/nucleon, collected with the Fiasco setup, are compared with calculations performed with the dynamic code AMD, coupled with the statistical code Gemini used as an afterburner. The comparison focuses on the properties of the quasiprojectile (QP) and on the total multiplicities of the emitted light charged particles. A good reproduction of the average mass ratio, charge Z and c.m. angle of the QP is obtained in the examined impact parameter range (b~7-12 fm). Concerning the light…
Within the framework of Classical Molecular Dynamics, we study the collision Au + Au at an incident energy of 35 MeV/nucleon. It is found that the system shows a critical behaviour at peripheral impact parameters, revealed through the analysis of conditional moments of charge distributions, Campi Scatter Plot, and the occurrence of large fluctuations in the region of the Campi plot where this critical behaviour is expected. When applying the experimental filters of the MULTICS-MINIBALL apparatus, it is found that criticality signals can be hidden due to the inefficiency of the experimental app…
A comparison of experimental heavy residue cross sections from the reactions 86Kr+64Ni,112,124Sn with the model of deep-inelastic transfer (DIT) is carried out. A modified expression for nucleon transfer probabilities is used at non-overlapping projectile-target configurations, introducing a dependence on isospin asymmetry at the nuclear periphery. The experimental yields of neutron-rich nuclei close to the projectile are reproduced better and the trend deviating from the bulk isospin equilibration is explained. For the neutron-rich products further from the projectile, originating from hot qu…
There exist several proposals to use Weizsäcker-Williams photons generated by ultrarelativistic heavy ions to produce exotic particles in $γγ$ fusion reactions. To estimate the background conditions for such reactions we analyze various mechanisms of meson production in very peripheral collisions of ultrarelativistic heavy ions at RHIC and LHC energies. Besides $γγ$ fusion they include also electromagnetic $γA$ interactions and strong nucleon-nucleon interactions in grazing $AA$ collisions. All these processes are characterised by low multiplicities of produced particles. $γA$ and $AA$ events …
The exchange of a single pion does not contribute to $Nα$ scattering, due to the isoscalar nature of the target. Therefore peripheral $Nα$ scattering may be used to probe existing models for the two-pion exchange component of the $NN$ potential. In a recent work we have considered this possibility using an effective $Nα$ interaction based on two-body forces only. In the present communication we discuss the role played by the two-pion exchange three-nucleon force, since its range is comparable to the two-pion exchange potential (TPEP).
The baryon electromagnetic form factors are expressed in terms of two-dimensional densities describing the distribution of charge and magnetization in transverse space at fixed light-front time. We calculate the transverse densities of the spin-1/2 flavor-octet baryons at peripheral distances b = O(M_π^{-1}) using methods of relativistic chiral effective field theory (χEFT) and dispersion analysis. The densities are represented as dispersive integrals over the imaginary parts of the form factors in the timelike region (spectral functions). The isovector spectral functions on the two-pion cut t…
By solving the Schrödinger equation for the three-quark system in the hyperspherical harmonic approach, we have studied the low energy part of the nucleon and $Δ$ spectra using a quark-quark interaction which reproduces the nucleon-nucleon phenomenology. The quark-quark hamiltonian considered includes, besides the usual one-gluon exchange, pion and sigma exchanges generated by the chiral symmetry breaking. The baryonic spectrum obtained is reasonable and the resulting wave function gives consistency to the ansatz used in the two baryon system.
We analyse the renormalization of the of two-nucleon interaction with multiple subtractions in peripheral waves considering two chiral forces at N3LO. Phase shifts at low energies are then computed with several subtraction points below μ= 10 / fm. We show that for most peripheral waves the phase shifts have nearly no dependence on the renormalization scale. In two cases the phase shifts converge slowly as the renormalization scale approaches μ= 1 / fm and in one case the phase shifts presented oscillations with respect to the subtraction point μ.
With stochastic transport simulations we study in detail central and peripheral collisions at Fermi energies and suggest new observables, sensitive to the symmetry energy below normal density. As such we identify on one hand the isospin imbalance ratio, i.e. the relative amount of isospin equilibration in binary, peripheral reactions of nuclei with different isospin, as a function of the energy loss, which is sensitive to isospin diffusion; on the other hand the isospin asymmetry of an intermediate mass fragment (IMF) in symmetric collisions in ternary reactions, or more particularly, the rati…
We apply the quark delocalization and color screening model to nucleon-baryon scattering. A semi-quantitative fit to N-N, N-Lambda and N-Sigma phase shifts and scattering cross sections is obtained without invoking meson exchange. Quarks delocalize reasonably in all of the different flavor channels to induce effective nucleon-baryon interactions with both a repulsive core and with an intermediate range attraction in the cases expected.
The peripheral heavy-ion collisions of $^{112, 124}Sn+ ^{86}Kr$ at $E_{b}= 25AMeV$ are studied by means of the Improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics Model(ImQMD). It is shown that the slope of the average N/Z ratio of emitted nucleons vs impact parameters for these reactions is very sensitive to the density dependence of the symmetry energy. Our study also shows that the yields of $^{3}H$ and $^{3}He$ decrease with impact parameters and slope of the yield of $^{3}H$ vs impact parameters as well as the ratio of Y($^{3}H$)/Y($^{3}He$) depend on the symmetry potential strongly for peripheral heavy-…
We consider a symmetry-preserving approach to the nucleon-nucleon scattering problem in the framework of the higher-derivative formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory. Within this framework the leading-order amplitude is calculated by solving renormalizable equations and corrections are taken into account perturbatively.
In the light-front description of nucleon structure the electromagnetic form factors are expressed in terms of frame-independent transverse densities of charge and magnetization. Recent work has studied the transverse densities at peripheral distances b = O(M_pi^{-1}), where they are governed by universal chiral dynamics and can be computed in a model-independent manner. Of particular interest is the comparison of the peripheral charge and magnetization densities. We summarize (a) their interpretation as spin-independent and -dependent current matrix elements; (b) the leading-order chiral effe…
The molecular dynamics study of fragmentation in peripheral $^{197}$Au +$^{197}$Au collisions at 35 MeV/nucleon is presented to probe the nuclear matter compressibility in low density regime. The yields of different fragment species, rapidity spectra, and multiplicities of charged particles with charge $3\leq Z \leq 80$ are analyzed at different peripheral geometries employing a soft and a hard equations of state. Fragment productions is found to be quite insensitive towards the choice of nucleon-nucleon cross sections allowing us to constrain nuclear matter compressibility. Comparison of calc…
The recent Investigations in the chiral quark model show that kaon productions of nucleon play an important role in understanding the structure of baryons. The evidences of a third $S_{11}$ resonance in the second resonance region and two narrow states around 2 GeV suggest a set of the molecular type baryons with hidden strangeness. Confirming these states requires further theoretical and experimental studies of the strangeness production.
The three-nucleon bound and scattering equations are solved in momentum space for a coupled-channel Hamiltonian. The Hamiltonian couples the purely nucleonic sector of Hilbert space with a sector in which one nucleon is excited to a $Δ$ isobar. The interaction consists of irreducible two-baryon and irreducible three-baryon potentials. The calculation keeps only the purely nucleonic one among the irreducible three-baryon potentials. The coupled-channel two-baryon potential yields additional reducible contributions to the three-nucleon force. The Coulomb interaction between the two protons is in…
Results from an ongoing study of baryon-baryon systems with strangeness S=-1 and -2 within chiral effective field theory are reported. The investigations are based on the scheme proposed by Weinberg which has been applied rather successfully to the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the past. Results for the hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions obtained to leading order are reviewed. Specifically, the issue of extrapolating the binding energy of the H-dibaryon, extracted from recent lattice QCD simulations, to the physical point is addressed. Furthermore, first results for the hyperon-…
It is shown that most of the models for analyzing meson-baryon reactions in the nucleon resonance region can be derived from a Hamiltonian formulation of the problem. An extension of the coupled-channel approach to include $ππN$ channel is briefly described and some preliminary results for the $N^*(1535)$ excitation are presented.
In this proceeding we summarize results for baryonic contact terms derived within SU(3) chiral effective field theory. The four-baryon contact terms, necessary for the description of the hyperon-nucleon interaction, include SU(3) symmetric and explicit chiral symmetry breaking terms. They also include four-baryon contact terms involving pseudoscalar mesons, which become important for three-body forces. Furthermore we derive the leading order six-baryon contact terms in the non-relativistic limit and study their contribution to the $ΛNN$ three-body contact interaction. These results could play …
We perform a systematic study of in-plane and out-of-plane proton and neutron flow from nucleus-nucleus collisions within the BUU transport approach employing different parameter sets for the mean-field potentials that can be characterized by the nuclear incompressibility and the stiffness of the momentum-dependent potential. We find that a simultaneous description of the experimental data from the BEVALAC and the SIS on both the nucleon squeeze-out $v_2$ and the in-plane flow $F$ at beam energies $E_{lab} = 0.15 ÷2$ AGeV requires a mean field with strong momentum dependence, i.e. an effective…
A density-dependent effective potential for the baryon-baryon interaction in the presence of the (hyper)nuclear medium is constructed, based on the leading (irreducible) three-baryon forces derived within SU(3) chiral effective field theory. We evaluate the contributions from three classes: contact terms, one-pion exchange and two-pion exchange. In the strangeness-zero sector we recover the known result for the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interaction. Explicit expressions for the Lambda-nucleon in-medium potential in (asymmetric) nuclear matter are presented. Our results are suitable for impleme…
In these lecture notes I discuss an algebraic model of baryons and pentaquarks, in particular a stringlike collective model is considered in which the radial excitations of baryons and pentaquarks are interpreted as rotations and vibrations of the strings. The algebraic structure of the model makes it possible to derive closed expressions for physical observables, such as masses and electromagnetic and strong couplings. The model is applied to the mass spectrum and magnetic moments of baryon resonances of the nucleon and delta families and to exotic baryons of the theta family. The ground pent…
This paper presents our recent efforts to study the momentum distributions as well as the production of neutron-rich rare isotopes with heavy-ion beams in the energy region of 15 MeV/nucleon. Experimental cross sections of neutron-rich nuclides from collisions of a 86 Kr (15 MeV/nucleon) beam with 64 Ni and 58 Ni targets are presented. Experimental data were obtained from the previous work of our group with the MARS mass spectrometer at the Cyclotron Institute of Texas A&M University. On that note, detailed calculations of yields and momentum distributions of neutron-rich projectile-like fragm…
We compute various nucleon polarizabilities in chiral perturbation theory implementing the $Δ$-full ($Δ$-less) approach up to order $ε^3 + q^4$ ($q^4$) in the small-scale (chiral) expansion. The calculation is carried out using the covariant formulation of $χ$PT by utilizing the extended on-mass shell renormalization scheme. Except for the spin-independent dipole polarizabilities used to fix the values of certain low-energy constants, our results for the nucleon polarizabilities are pure predictions. We compare our calculations with available experimental data and other theoretical results. Th…
Kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions are studied in a boson exchange model. For the latter two interactions, the exchanged pion can be on-mass shell, only contributions due to a virtual pion are included via the Peierls method by taking into account the finite delta width. With these cross sections and also those for pion-baryon interactions, subthreshold kaon production from heavy ion collisions is studied in the relativistic transport model.
In a one-pion plus one-kaon exchange model, we calculate the kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions. We find that this model describes reasonably well the experimental data on kaon production in the proton-proton interaction. Near the kaon production threshold, the cross section obtained from this model is smaller than that from the linear parameterization of Randrup and Ko. For kaon production cross sections from the nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions, the cross sections are singular in free space, so we calculate them in a nuclea…
M1 properties, comprising magnetic moments and radiative capture of thermal neutron observables, are studied in two- and three-nucleon systems. We utilize meson exchange current derived up to N$^3$LO using heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory a la Weinberg. Calculations have been performed for several qualitatively different realistic nuclear Hamiltonians, which permits us to analyze model dependence of our results. Our results are found to be strongly correlated with the effective range parameters such as binding energies and the scattering lengths. Taking into account such correlation, th…
We study the low energy part of the nucleon and $Δ$ spectra by solving the Schrödinger equation for the three-quark system in the hyperspherical harmonic approach. The quark-quark hamiltonian considered includes, besides the usual one-gluon exchange, pion and sigma exchanges generated by the chiral symmetry breaking. This quark-quark potential reproduces, in a Resonating Group Method calculation, the nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts and the deuteron properties. The baryonic spectrum obtained is quite reasonable and the resulting wave function is consistent with the ansatz used in the tw…
In this paper, which is the second part in a series of two, we construct tree level baryon exchange and resonance amplitudes for $πN$ / $MB$-scattering in the framework of the Kadyshevsky formalism. We use this formalism to formally implement absolute pair suppression, where we make use of the method of Takahashi and Umezawa. The resulting amplitudes are Lorentz invariant and causal. We continue studying the frame dependence of the Kadyshevsky integral equation using the method of Gross and Jackiw. The invariant amplitudes, including those for meson exchange, are linked to the phase-shifts usi…
To estimate realistic cross sections in ultra peripheral heavy ion collisions we must remove effects of strong absorption. One method to eliminate these effects make use of a Glauber model calculation, where the nucleon-nucleon energy dependent cross sections at small impact parameter are suppressed. In another method we impose a geometrical cut on the minimal impact parameter of the nuclear collision ($b_{min} > R_1 + R_2$, where $R_i$ is the radius of ion "$i$"). In this last case the effect of a possible nuclear radius dependence with the energy has not been considered in detail up to now. …
After a short survey of some topics of interest in the study of baryon-baryon scattering, the recent Nijmegen energy dependent partial wave analysis (PWA) of the nucleon-nucleon data is reviewed. In this PWA the energy range for both pp and np is now 0 < Tlab < 350 MeV and a chi^2_{d.o.f.}=1.08 was reached. The implications for the pion-nucleon coupling constants are discussed. Comments are made with respect to recent discussions around this coupling constant in the literature. In the second part, we briefly sketch the picture of the baryon in several, more or less QCD-based, quark-models that…
We calculate the impact of the complete set of two-pion exchange contributions at chiral order four (also known as next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order, N3LO) on peripheral partial waves of nucleon-nucleon scattering. Our calculations are based upon the analytical studies by Kaiser. It turns out that the contribution of order four is substantially smaller than the one of order three, indicating convergence of the chiral expansion. We compare the prediction from chiral pion-exchange with the corresponding one from conventional meson-theory as represented by the Bonn Full Model and find, in gen…
The Nijmegen extended-sft-core ESC08c model for the baryon-baryon (BB) interactions of the SU(3) flavor-octet of baryons ($N, Λ, Σ$, and $Ξ$) is presented. In this first of a series of papers, the NN results are reported in detail. In the spirit of the Yukawa-approach to the nuclear force problem, the interactions are studied from the meson-exchange picture viewpoint, using generalized soft-core Yukawa-functions. These interactions are supplemented with (i) multiple-gluon-exchange, and (ii) structural effects due to the quark-core of the baryons. The extended-soft-core (ESC) meson-exchange int…
Within an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model IBUU11 using as an input nucleon density profiles from Hartree-Fock calculations based on a modified Skyrme-like (MSL) model, we study the influence of the uncertainty of the neutron skin thickness on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in both central and peripheral Pb+Pb collisions at beam energies of 400 MeV/nucleon and 1000 MeV/nucleon. Within the current experimental uncertainty range of neutron skin in $^{208}$Pb, while the neutron skin effect on the \rpi ratio is negligible in central reactions at both energies, it increases gradually with i…
Transverse densities describe the spatial distribution of electromagnetic current in the nucleon at fixed light-front time. At peripheral distances b = O(M_pi^{-1}) the densities are governed by chiral dynamics and can be calculated model-independently using chiral effective field theory (EFT). Recent work has shown that the EFT results can be represented in first-quantized form, as overlap integrals of chiral light-front wave functions describing the transition of the nucleon to soft-pion-nucleon intermediate states, resulting in a quantum-mechanical picture of the peripheral transverse densi…
A recent analysis of experimental ternary fission fragment yields using a nucleation moderated statistical equilibrium model reproduced observed yields with fairly good accuracy. In the present work, the same approach is applied to neck emission in peripheral and mid-peripheral 124Sn+112,124Sn collisions at 26A MeV. The model can reasonably reproduce the yields of lithium to silicon isotopes with realistic time and temperature values. A comparison is made between equilibrium constants derived from the present data and those previously obtained for ternary fission of 242Pu.
The anisotropy of angular distributions of emitted nucleons and light charged particles for the asymmetric reaction system, $^{40}$Ar+$^{197}$Au, at b=6fm and $E_{beam}$=35, 50 and 100MeV/u, are investigated by using the Improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. The competition between the symmetry potential and Coulomb potential shows large impacts on the nucleons and light charged particles emission in projectile and target region. As a result of this competition, the angular distribution anisotropy of coalescence invariant Y(n)/Y(p) ratio at forward regions shows sensitivity to the stiffne…
We present a model of baryonic matter which contains free constituent quarks in addition to bound constituent quarks in nucleons. In addition to the common linear sigma-model we include the exchange of vector-mesons. The percentage of free quarks increases with baryon density but the nucleons resist a restoration of chiral symmetry.
We study the two-pion exchange potential at next-to-next-to-leading order in chiral effective field theory. We propose a new cut-off scheme for the pion loop integrals based on spectral function regularization. We show that this method allows for a consistent implementation of constraints from pion-nucleon scattering. It leads to a much improved description of the partial waves with angular momentum l \geq 2 as compared to the calculation utilizing dimensional regularization.
We extend our previous analysis of the unitarized pion-nucleon scattering amplitude including up to fourth order terms in Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory. We pay special attention to the stability of the generated Delta(1232 resonance, the convergence problems and the power counting of the chiral parameters.
We discuss the masses of the ground state baryon octet and the nucleon sigma terms in the framework of manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. In order to obtain a consistent power counting for renormalized diagrams the extended on-mass-shell renormalization scheme is applied.
Owing to the Kubo relation, the shear viscosities of pionic and nucleonic components have been evaluated from their corresponding retarded correlators of viscous stress tensor in the static limit, which become non-divergent only for the non-zero thermal widths of the constituent particles. In the real-time thermal field theory, the pion and nucleon thermal widths have respectively been obtained from the pion self-energy for different meson, baryon loops and the nucleon self-energy for different pion-baryon loops. We have found a non-monotonic momentum distributions of pion and nucleon thermal …
