In this paper, we expand functions of specific $q$-exponential growth in terms of its even (odd) Askey- Wilson $q$-derivatives at $0$ and $η=(q^{1/4}+q^{-1/4})/2$. This expansion is a $q$-version of the celebrated Lidstone expansion theorem, where we expand the function in $q$-analogs of Lidstone polynomials, i.e., q-Bernoulli and $q$-Euler polynomials as in the classical case. We also raise and solve a $q$-extension of the problem of representing an entire function of the form
$f(z)=g(z+1)-g(z)$, where $g(z)$ is also an entire function of the same order as $f(z)$.
According to Lidstone interpolation theory, an entire function of exponential type $<π$ is determined by it derivatives of even order at $0$ and $1$. This theory can be generalized to several variables. Here we survey the theory for a single variable. Complete proofs are given. This first paper of a trilogy is devoted to Univariate Lidstone interpolation; Bivariate and Multivariate Lidstone interpolation will be the topic of two forthcoming papers.
We extend to several variables an earlier result of ours, according to which an entire function of one variable of sufficiently small exponential type, having all derivatives of even order taking integer values at two points, is a polynomial. The proof in the one dimensional case relies on Lidstone expansion of the function. For $n$ variables, we need $n+1$ points, having the property that the differences of $n$ of them with the remaining one give a basis of ${\mathbb C}^n$. The proof is by reduction to the one variable situation.
Let $A_p(\C)$ be the space of entire functions such that $| f(z)|\le Ae^{Bp(z)}$ for some $A,B>0$ and let $V$ be a discrete sequence of complex numbers which is not a uniqueness set for $A_p(\C)$. We use $L^2$ estimates for the $\bar\partial$ equation to charaterize the trace of $A_p(\C)$ on $V$.
We use $L^2$ estimates for the $\bar\partial$ equation to find geometric conditions on discrete interpolating varieties for weighted spaces $A_p(\C)$ of entire functions such that $| f(z)|\le Ae^{Bp(z)}$ for some $A,B>0$. In particular, we give a characterization when $p(z)=e^{| z|}$ and more generally when $\ln p(e^r)$ is convex and $\ln p(r)$ is concave.
The purpose of this paper is to prove an interpolation formula involving derivatives for entire functions of exponential type. We extend the interpolation formula derived by J. Vaaler in [37, Theorem 9] to general $L^p$ de Branges spaces. We extensively use techniques from de Branges' theory of Hilbert spaces of entire functions as developed in [6], but a crucial passage involves the Hilbert-type inequalities as derived in [15]. We give applications to homogeneous spaces of entire functions that involve Bessel functions and we prove a uniqueness result for extremal one-sided band-limited appro…
We study those smooth complex hypersurfaces W in C^n having the property that all holomorphic functions of finite weighted L^p norm on W extend to entire functions with finite weighted L^p norm. Such hypersurfaces are called interpolation hypersurfaces. We also examine the dual problem of finding all sampling hypersurfaces, i.e., smooth hypersurfaces W in C^n such that any entire function with finite weighted L^p norm is stably determined by its restriction to W. We provide sufficient geometric conditions on the hypersurface to be an interpolation and sampling hypersurface. The geometric condi…
In the space of all entire functions it is solved the problem of interpolation taking into account multiplicities by sums of the series of exponentials with the exponents from a given set. It is found a criterion of solubility of the problem in the case when all infinite portions of interpolation nodes are situated on a finite system of rays. It is also disclosed that the problem is equivalent to particular problems of simple interpolation, as well as of point-wise crude approximation, by sums of the series of exponentials.
Let $Ω$ be a bounded, weakly pseudoconvex domain in C^n, n > 1, with real-analytic boundary. A real-analytic submanifold $M \subset bdΩ$ is called an analytic interpolation manifold if every real-analytic function on M extends to a function belonging to $\Cal{O}(\barΩ)$. We provide sufficient conditions for M to be an analytic interpolation manifold. We give examples showing that neither of these conditions can be relaxed, as well as examples of analytic interpolation manifolds lying entirely within the set of weakly pseudoconvex points of $bdΩ$.
We define $F$-polynomials as linear combinations of dilations by some frequencies of an entire function $F$. In this paper we use Pade interpolation of holomorphic functions in the unit disk by $F$-polynomials to obtain explicitly approximating $F$-polynomials with sharp estimates on their coefficients. We show that when frequencies lie in a compact set $K\subset\mathbb C$ then optimal choices for the frequencies of interpolating polynomials are similar to Fekete points. Moreover, the minimal norms of the interpolating operators form a sequence whose rate of growth is determined by the transfi…
The study is made of the problem of multiple interpolation on an infinite nodes set by the sums of absolutely convergent series of exponentials whose exponents are from a given set. For entire function conditions on nodes and exponents are obtained that give solubility of the problem. A new approach is demonstrated that enable us, for the case of holomorphic function in a domain, to obtain criteria of solubility of the problem for some class of exponents set and for a special class of nodes set. Upon that the necessity of the conditions is proved in great generality namely for arbitrary nodes …
Let $(M_j)_{j=1}^\infty\in\mathbb{N}$ and $(r_j)_{j=1}^\infty\in\mathbb{R}^+$ be increasing sequences satisfying some mild rate of growth conditions. We prove that there is an entire function $f: \mathbb{C} \rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ whose behavior in the large annuli $\{ z\in\mathbb{C} : r_{j}\cdot\exp(π/M_{j})\leq|z|\leq r_{j+1}\}$ is given by a perturbed rescaling of $z\mapsto z^{M_j}$, such that the only singular values of $f$ are rescalings of $\pm r_j^{M_j}$. We describe several applications to the dynamics of entire functions.
We investigate necessary and sufficient conditions under which entire functions in de Branges spaces can be recovered from function values and values of derivatives. Our main focus is on spaces with a structure function whose logarithmic derivative is bounded in the upper half-plane.
The de Branges spaces of entire functions generalise the classical Paley-Wiener space of square summable bandlimited functions. Specifically, the square norm is computed on the real line with respect to weights given by the values of certain entire functions. For the Paley-Wiener space, this can be chosen to be an exponential function where the phase increases linearly. As our main result, we establish a natural geometric characterisation, in terms of densities, for real sampling and interpolating sequences in the case when the derivative of the phase function merely gives a doubling measure o…
We prove that square integrable holomorphic functions (with respect to a plurisubharmonic weight) can be extended in a square integrable manner from certain singular hypersurfaces (which include uniformly flat, normal crossing divisors) to entire functions in affine space. This provides evidence for a conjecture regarding the positivity of the curvature of the weight under consideration.

Answering a question of Lindholm, we prove strict density inequalities for sampling and interpolation in Fock spaces of entire functions in several complex variables defined by a plurisubharmonic weight. In particular, these spaces do not admit a set that is simultaneously sampling and interpolating. To prove optimality of the density conditions, we construct sampling sets with a density arbitrarily close to the critical density. The techniques combine methods from several complex variables (estimates for $\bar \partial$) and the theory of localized frames in general reproducing kernel Hilbert…
Recently Bishop constructed the first example of a bounded-type transcendental entire function with a wandering domain using a new technique called quasiconfomal folding. It is easy to check that his method produces an entire function of infinite order. We construct the first examples of entire functions of finite order in the class $\mathcal B$ with wandering domains. As in Bishop's example, these wandering domains are of oscillating type, that is, they have an unbounded non-escaping orbit. To construct such functions we use quasiregular interpolation instead of quasiconformal folding, which …
We consider the Fock-Sobolev space $F^{p,m}$ consisting of entire functions $f$ such that $f^{(m)}$, the $m$-th order derivative of $f$, is in the Fock space $F^p$. We show that an entire function $f$ is in $F^{p,m}$ if and only if the function $z^mf(z)$ is in $F^p$. We also characterize the Carleson measures for the spaces $F^{p,m}$, establish the boundedness of the weighted Fock projection on appropriate $L^p$ spaces, identify the Banach dual of $F^{p,m}$, and compute the complex interpolation space between two $F^{p,m}$ spaces.
For a fixed singular Borel probability measure $μ$ on $\mathbb{T}$, we give several characterizations of when an entire function is the Fourier transform of some $f \in L^2(μ)$. The first characterization is given in terms of criteria for sampling functions of the form $\hat{f}$ when $f \in L^2(μ)$. The second characterization is given in terms of criteria for interpolation of bounded sequences on $\mathbb{N}_{0}$ by $\hat{f}$. Both characterizations use the construction of Fourier series for $f \in L^2(μ)$ demonstrated in Herr and Weber via the Kaczmarz algorithm and classical results concern…
This paper presents the Gaussian subordination framework to generate optimal one-sided approximations to multidimensional real-valued functions by functions of prescribed exponential type. Such extremal problems date back to the works of Beurling and Selberg and provide a variety of applications in analysis and analytic number theory. Here we majorize and minorize (on $\mathbb{R}^N$) the Gaussian ${\bf x} \mapsto e^{-πλ|{\bf x}|^2}$, where $λ>0$ is a free parameter, by functions with distributional Fourier transforms supported on Euclidean balls, optimizing weighted $L^1$-errors. By integratin…
