Let $Ω$ be a bounded, weakly pseudoconvex domain in C^n, n > 1, with real-analytic boundary. A real-analytic submanifold $M \subset bdΩ$ is called an analytic interpolation manifold if every real-analytic function on M extends to a function belonging to $\Cal{O}(\barΩ)$. We provide sufficient conditions for M to be an analytic interpolation manifold. We give examples showing that neither of these conditions can be relaxed, as well as examples of analytic interpolation manifolds lying entirely within the set of weakly pseudoconvex points of $bdΩ$.
It is shown that two strictly pseudoconvex Stein domains with real analytic boundaries have biholomorphic universal coverings provided that their boundaries are locally biholomorphically equivalent. This statement can be regarded as a higher dimensional analogue of the Riemann uniformization theorem.
We prove that every smooth CR manifold $M\subset\subset \C^n$, of hypersurface type, has a complex strip-manifold extension in $\C^n$. If $M$ is, in addition, pseudoconvex-oriented, it is the "exterior" boundary of the strip. In turn, the strip extends to a variety with boundary $M$ (Rothstein-Sperling Theorem); in case $M$ is contained in a pseudoconvex boundary with no complex tangencies, the variety is embedded in $\C^n$. Altogether we get: $M$ is the boundary of a variety (Harvey-Lawson Theorem); if $M$ is pseudoconvex oriented the singularities of the variety are isolated in the interior;…
In this paper, we consider the boundary M of a weakly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold. We point out a striking difference between the local cohomology and the global cohomology of M, and illustrate this with an example. We also discuss the first and second Cousin problems, and the strong Poincare problem for CR meromorphic functions on the weakly pseudoconvex boundary M.
We prove an analog of the classical Hartogs extension theorem for CR $L^{2}$ functions defined on boundaries of certain (possibly unbounded) domains on coverings of strongly pseudoconvex manifolds. Our result is related to a problem posed in the paper of Gromov, Henkin and Shubin [GHS] on holomorphic $L_{2}$ functions on coverings of pseudoconvex manifolds.
In this article, we investigate the (big) Hankel operators $H_f$ on Hardy spaces of strongly pseudoconvex domains with smooth boundaries in $\mathbb{C}^n$. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for boundedness of the Hankel operator $H_f$ on the Hardy space of the unit disc, which is new in the setting of one variable.
Boas and Straube proved a general sufficient condition for global regularity of the d-bar Neumann problem in terms of families of vector fields that commute approximately with d-bar. In this paper, we study the existence of these vector fields on a compact subset of the boundary whose interior is foliated by complex manifolds. This question turns out to be closely related to properties of interest from the point of view of foliation theory.
The main result of [HL] (Annals of Math. 102 (1975), 223--290) gives a characterization of the boundaries of complex subvarieties in C^n. An application of this result concerning pseudoconvexity, namely Theorem 10.4 in [HL], is amplified.
We treat the boundary problem for complex varieties (with isolated singularities) of dimension greater than one, which are contained in a suitable class of strictly pseudoconvex, unbounded domains of C^n.
The $Q$-prime curvature is a local invariant of pseudo-Einstein contact forms on integrable strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. The transformation law of the $Q$-prime curvature under scaling is given in terms of a differential operator, called the $P$-prime operator, acting on the space of CR pluriharmonic functions. In this paper, we generalize these objects to the boundaries of asymptotically complex hyperbolic Einstein (ACHE) manifolds, which are partially integrable, strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds, by using the scattering matrix for ACHE manifolds. In this setting, the $P$-prime opera…
Let $0<p<\infty$, $β>-1$, and $Ω$ be a strongly pseudoconvex bounded domain with a smooth boundary in $\mathbb{C}^n$. We will study the interpolation problem for weighted Bergman spaces $A^p_β(Ω)$. In the case, $1\leq p<\infty$, and $β> \max \{n(2p-1)-1, n(2q-1)-1\}$, where $q$ is the conjugate exponent of $p$ (let $q=1$, for $p=1$), we show that a sequence in $\mathbb{B}_n$, the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n$, is interpolating for $A^p_β(\mathbb{B}_n)$ if and only if it is separated.
We give estimates for the squeezing function on strictly pseudoconvex domains, and derive some sharp estimates for the Caratheodory, Sibony and Azukawa metric near their boundaries.
In convex geometry, the Blaschke surface area measure on the boundary of a convex domain can be interpreted in terms of the complexity of approximating polyhedra. In response to a question raised by D. Barrett, this approach is formulated in the holomorphic setting to establish an alternate interpretation of Fefferman's hypersurface measure on boundaries of strictly pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^2$. In particular, it is shown that Fefferman's measure can be recovered from the Bergman kernel of the domain. A connection with the geometry of the Heisenberg group, emerging from these results…
We shall give a definition of the curvature operator for a family of weighted Bergman spaces $\{\mathcal H_t\}$ associated to a smooth family of smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domains $\{D_t\}$. In order to study the boundary term in the curvature operator, we shall introduce the notion of geodesic curvature for the associated family of boundaries $\{\partial D_t\}$. As an application, we get a variation formula for the norms of Bergman projections of currents with compact support. A flatness criterion for $\{\mathcal H_t\}$ and its applications to triviality of fibrations are also giv…
We prove that a relatively compact pseudoconvex domain with smooth boundary in an almost complex manifold admits a bounded strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function. We use this result for the study of convexity and hyperbolicity properties of these domains and the contact geometry of their boundaries.
We show that biholomorphic mappings between two bounded, pseudoconvex domains with smooth boundary extend smoothly to the boundaries of the domains, under a regularity condition on a family of twisted Bergman-like projections. This result is inspired by and generalizes a sufficient condition for extension due to Bell and Ligocka.
It is shown that even a weak multidimensional Suita conjecture fails for any bounded non-pseudoconvex domain with $\mathcal C^1$ boundary: the product of the Bergman kernel by the volume of the indicatrix of the Azukawa metric is not bounded below. This is obtained by finding a direction along which the Sibony metric tends to infinity as the base point tends to the boundary. The analogous statement fails for a Lipschitz boundary. For a general $\mathcal C^1$ boundary, we give estimates for the Sibony metric in terms of some directional distance functions. For bounded pseudoconvex domains, the …
This article considers isometries of the Kobayashi and Carathéod-ory metrics on domains in $ \mathbf{C}^n $ and the extent to which they behave like holomorphic mappings. First we prove a metric version of Poincaré's theorem about biholomorphic inequivalence of $ \mathbf{B}^n $, the unit ball in $ \mathbf{C}^n $ and $ Δ^n $, the unit polydisc in $ \mathbf{C}^n $ and then provide few examples which \textit{suggest} that $ \mathbf{B}^n $ cannot be mapped isometrically onto a product domain. In addition, we prove several results on continuous extension of isometries $ f : D_1 \rightarrow D_2 $ to…
We prove a modified form of the classical Morrey-Kohn-Hörmander identity, adapted to pseudoconcave boundaries. Applying this result to an annulus between two bounded pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, where the inner domain has $\mathcal{C}^{1,1}$ boundary, we show that the $L^2$ Dolbeault cohomology group in bidegree $(p,q)$ vanishes if $1\leq q\leq n-2$ and is Hausdorff and infinite-dimensional if $q=n-1$, so that the Cauchy-Riemann operator has closed range in each bidegree. As a dual result, we prove that the Cauchy-Riemann operator is solvable in the $L^2$ Sobolev space $W^1$ on any …
We consider a smooth boundary bΩwhich is q-convex in the sense that its Levi-form has positive trace on every complex q-plane. We prove that bΩis tangent of infinite order to the complexification of each of its submanifolds which is complex tangential and of finite bracket type. This generalizes Diederich-Fornaess [Annals 1978] from pseudoconvex to q-convex domains. We also readily prove that the rows of the Levi-form are (1/2)-subelliptic multipliers for the di-bar-Neumann problem on q-forms (cf. Ho [Math. Ann. 1991]). This allows to run the Kohn algorithm of [Acta Math. 1979] in the chain of…
In this new version, we give an affirmative solution to a conjecture of Cheng proposed in 1979 which asserts that the Bergman metric of a smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^n, n\geq 2,$ is Kähler-Einstein if and only if the domain is biholomorphic to the ball. We establish versions of various classical theorems that are used in the solution for Stein spaces. Among other things, we construct a hyperbolic metric over a Stein space with spherical boundary. We also prove the Q. K. Lu type uniformization theorem for Stein spaces with isolated normal singularities.
We study the $\bar{\partial}_b$-Neumann problem for domains $Ω$ contained in a strictly pseudoconvex manifold M^{2n+1} whose boundaries are noncharacteristic and have defining functions depending solely on the real and imaginary parts of a single CR function w. When the Kohn Laplacian is a priori known to have closed range in L^2, we prove sharp regularity and estimates for solutions. We establish a condition on the boundary which is sufficient for the Kohn Laplacian to be Fredholm on $L^2_{(0,q)}(Ω)$ and show that this condition always holds when M is embedded as a hypersurface in C^{n+1}. We…
