We study the Bergman projection, $\mathcal{B}$, and the Cauchy-Szegő projection, $\mathcal{S}$, on bounded domains with near minimal smoothness. We prove that $\mathcal{B}$ has the weak-type $(1,1)$ property with respect to weighted measures assuming that the underlying domain is strongly pseudoconvex with $C^4$ boundary and the weight satisfies the $B_1$ condition, and the same property for $\mathcal{S}$ on domains with $C^3$ boundaries and weights satisfying the $A_1$ condition. We also obtain weighted Kolmogorov and weighted Zygmund inequalities for $\mathcal{B}$ and $\mathcal{S}$ in their respective settings as corollaries.
We consider the problem of $L^1$ (un)boundedness for a wide class of orthogonal projections, including Bergman projections on domains in complex manifolds and Szegö projections on abstract CR manifolds.
We use Stokes's theorem to establish an explicit and concrete connection between the Bergman and Szegő projections on the disc, the ball, and on strongly pseudoconvex domains.
This is our third work on Bergman-type operator over bounded domains. In the previous two articles, we systematically study the boundedness, compactness and Schatten membership of Bergman-type on the Hilbert unit ball. In the present paper, we investigate singular integral operators induced by the Bergman kernel and Szegö kernel on the irreducible bounded symmetric domain in its standard Harish-Chandra realization. We completely characterize when Bergman-type operators and Szegö-type operators belong to Schatten class operator ideals by several analytic numerical invariants of the bounded symm…
Very recently one has started to study Bergman and Szegö kernels in the setting of octonionic monogenic functions. In particular, explicit formulas for the Bergman kernel for the octonionic unit ball and for the octonionic right half-space as well as a formula for the Szegö kernel for the octonionic unit ball have been established. In this paper we extend this line of investigation by developing explicit formulas for the Szegö kernel of strip domains of the form ${\cal{S}} := \{z \in \mathbb{O} \mid 0 < \Re(z) < d\}$ from which we derive by a limit argument considering $d \to \infty$ the Szegö…
The purpose of this note is to prove some boundedness/compactness results of a harmonic analysis flavor for the Bergman and Szegő projections on certain classes of planar domains using conformal mappings. In particular, we prove weighted estimates for the projections, provide quantitative $L^p$ estimates and a specific example of such estimates on a domain with a sharp $p$ range, and show that the ``difference'' of the Bergman and Szegő projections is compact at the endpoints $p = 1, \infty$ for domains with sufficient smoothness. We also pose some open questions that naturally arise from our …
In this work we provide an asymptotic expansion for the Szegő kernel associated to a suitably defined Hardy space on the the non-smooth worm domain $D'_β$. After describing the singularities of the kernel, we compare it with an asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel. In particular, we show that the Bergman kernel has the same singularities of the first derivative of the Szegő kernel with respect to any of the variables. On the side, we prove the boundedness of the Bergman projection operator on Sobolev spaces of integer order.
We obtain several estimates for the $L^p$ operator norms of the Bergman and Cauchy-Szegö projections over the the Siegel upper half-space. As a by-product, we also determine the precise value of the $L^p$ operator norm of a family of integral operators over the Siegel upper half-space.
We construct a pointwise Boutet de Monvel-Sjöstrand parametrix for the Szegő kernel of a weakly pseudoconvex three dimensional CR manifold of finite type assuming the range of its tangential CR operator to be closed; thereby extending the earlier analysis of Christ. This particularly extends Fefferman's boundary asymptotics of the Bergman kernel to weakly pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$, in agreement with D'Angelo's example. Finally our results generalize a three dimensional CR embedding theorem of Lempert.
Identifying holomorphic functions by moment conditions is a classical problem. This paper explores ideas introduced by Tumanov in a well known paper on the strip problem, and building on the author's previous work, to show that weighted Bergman projections can be computed via asymptotic formulas involving Szegő projections a fixed 1-dimensional family of curves. Various new operators are introduced; in addition, similar formulas are derived via dimension reduction, using the author's CR Hartogs theorem.
The quotient of the Szegö and Bergman kernels for a smooth bounded pseudoconvex domains in ${\mathbb C}^n$ is bounded from above by $δ|\logδ|^p$ for any $p>n$, where $δ$ is the distance to the boundary. For a class of domains that includes those of D'Angelo finite type and those with plurisubharmonic defining functions, the quotient is also bounded from below by $δ|\logδ|^p$ for any $p<-1$. Moreover, for convex domains, the quotient is bounded from above and below by constant multiples of $δ$.
We study estimates for Hardy space norms of analytic projections. We first find a sufficient condition for the Bergman projection of a function in the unit disc to belong to the Hardy space $H^p$ for $1 < p < \infty$. We apply the result to prove a converse to an extension of Ryabykh's theorem about Hardy space regularity for Bergman space extremal functions. We also prove that the $H^q$ norm of the Szegö projection of $F^{p/2} \overline{F}^{(p/2)-1}$ cannot be too small if $F$ is analytic, for certain values of $p$ and $q$. We apply this to show that the best analytic approximation in $L^p$ o…
In this paper, we consider bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains $D\subset \mathbb C^2$ with smooth boundary $M=M^3:=\partial D$. If we consider the asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel on the diagonal $$ K_B\sim \frac{ϕ_B}{ρ^{n+1}}+ψ_B\logρ, $$ where $ρ>0$ is a Fefferman defining equation for $D$, then it is well known that the trace of the log term $bψ_B:=(ψ_B)|_M$ on $M$ does not determine the CR geometry of $M$ locally; e.g., the vanishing of $bψ_B$ on an open subset of $M$ does not imply that $M$ is locally spherical there. Nevertheless, the main result in this paper is that if $D\s…
A natural class of weighted Bergman spaces on the symmetrized polydisc is isometrically embedded as a subspace in the corresponding weighted Bergman space on the polydisc. We find an orthonormal basis for this subspace. It enables us to compute the kernel function for the weighted Bergman spaces on the symmetrized polydisc using the explicit nature of our embedding. This family of kernel functions include the Szegö and the Bergman kernel on the symmetrized polydisc.
Sobolev regularity of the Bergman and Szegö projections in terms of $\overline{\partial}\oplus\overline{\partial}^{*}$ and $\overline{\partial}_{b}\oplus\overline{\partial}_{b}^{*}$
We compute the leading and sub-leading terms in the asymptotic expansion of the Szegö kernel on the diagonal of a class of pseudoconvex Reinhardt domains whose boundaries are endowed with a general class of smooth measures. We do so by relating it to a Bergman kernel over projective space.
In this paper, we investigate the weak-type regularity of the Bergman projection. The two domains we focus on are the polydisc and the Hartogs triangle. For the polydisc we provide a proof that the weak-type behavior is of "$L\log L$" type. This result is likely known to the experts, but does not appear to be in the literature. For the Hartogs triangle we show that the operator is of weak-type $(4,4)$; settling the question of the behavior of the projection at this endpoint. At the other endpoint of interest, we show that the Bergman projection is not of weak-type $(\frac{4}{3}, \frac{4}{3})$ …
We consider the Bergman, Szegő, and Poisson Szegő kernels on a domain in $\CC$ or $\CC^n$. Various properties and relationships are established. The paper has both an expository component and a research component.
We show that the Bergman, Szego, and Poisson kernels associated to a finitely connected domain in the plane are all composed of finitely many easily computed functions of one variable. The new formulas give rise to new methods for computing the Bergman and Szeg\H o kernels in which all integrals used in the computations are line integrals; at no point is an integral with respect to area measure required. The results mentioned so far can be interpreted as saying that the kernel functions are simpler than one might expect. However, we also prove that the kernels cannot be too simple by showing t…
Using the machinery of unitary spherical harmonics due to Koornwinder, Folland and other authors, we~obtain expansions for the Szegö and the weighted Bergman kernels of $M$-harmonic functions, i.e.~functions annihilated by the invariant Laplacian on the unit ball of the complex $n$-space. This yields, among others, an explicit formula for the $M$-harmonic Szegö kernel in terms of multivariable as well as single-variable hypergeometric functions, and also shows that most likely there is no explicit (``closed'') formula for the corresponding weighted Bergman kernels.
The Szego kernel of a strictly pseudoconvex domain admits a singularity on the boundary diagonal, which consists of a pole and logarithmic type singularity. In this paper, we prove that the integral over the boundary of the coefficient of the logarithmic singularity gives a biholomorphic invariant of a domain, or a CR invariant of the boundary. We also show that the same invariant appears as the coefficient of the logarithmic term of the volume expansion of the domain with respect to the Bergman volume element.
In this paper we give an asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel for certain weakly pseudoconvex tube domains of finite type in C^2. Our asymptotic formula asserts that the singularity of the Bergman kernel at weakly pseudoconvex points is essentially expressed by using two variables; moreover certain real blowing-up is necessary to understand its singularity. The form of the asymptotic expansion with respect to each variable is similar to that in the strictly pseudoconvex case due to C. Fefferman. We also give an analogous result in the case of the Szego kernel.
Carleson measures and interpolating and sampling sequences for weighted Bergman spaces on the unit disk are described for weights that are radial and grow faster than the standard weights $(1-|z|)^{-α}$, $0<α<1$. These results make the Hardy space $H^2$ appear naturally as a "degenerate" endpoint case for the class of Bergman spaces under study.
In this paper we prove that on a CR manifold of hypersurface type that satisfies the weak $Y(q)$ condition, the complex Green operator $G_q$ is exactly (globally) regular if and only if the Szegö projections $S_{q-1}, S_q$ and a third orthogonal projection $S'_{q+1}$ are exactly (globally) regular. The projection $S'_{q+1}$ is closely related to the Szegö projection $S_{q+1}$ and actually coincides with it if the space of harmonic $(0,q+1)$-forms is trivial. This result extends the important and by now classical result by H. Boas and E. Straube on the equivalence of the regularity of the $\bar…
Consider the Bergman kernel $K^B(z)$ of the domain $\ellip = \{z \in \Comp^n ; \sum_{j=1}^n |z_j|^{2m_j}<1 \}$, where $m=(m_1,\ldots,m_n) \in \Natl^n$ and $m_n \neq 1$. Let $z^0 \in \partial \ellip$ be any weakly pseudoconvex point, $k \in \Natl$ the degenerate rank of the Levi form at $z^0$. An explicit formula for $K^B(z)$ modulo analytic functions is given in terms of the polar coordinates $(t_1, \ldots, t_k, r)$ around $z^0$. This formula provides detailed information about the singularities of $K^B(z)$, which improves the result of A. Bonami and N. Lohoué \cite{bol}. A similar result is e…
We give a Hörmander type $L^2-$estimate for the $\bar{\partial}-$equation with respect to the measure $δ_Ω^{-α}dV$, $α<1$, on any bounded pseudoconvex domain with $C^2-$boundary. Several applications to the function theory of weighed Bergman spaces $A^2_α(Ω)$ are given, including a corona type theorem, a Gleason type theorem, together with a density theorem. We investigate in particular the boundary behavior of functions in $A^2_α(Ω)$ by proving an analogue of the Levi problem for $A^2_α(Ω)$ and giving an optimal Gehring type estimate for functions in $A^2_α(Ω)$. A vanishing theorem for $A^2_1…
We use the Suita conjecture (now a theorem) to prove that for any domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}$ its Bergman kernel $K(\cdot, \cdot)$ satisfies $K(z_0, z_0) = \hbox{Volume}(Ω)^{-1}$ for some $z_0 \in Ω$ if and only if $Ω$ is either a disk minus a (possibly empty) closed polar set or $\mathbb{C}$ minus a (possibly empty) closed polar set. When $Ω$ is bounded with $C^{\infty}$-boundary, we provide a simple proof of this using the zero set of the Szegö kernel. Finally, we show that this theorem fails to hold in $\mathbb{C}^n$ for $n > 1$ by constructing a bounded complete Reinhardt domain (with alg…
In this paper we discuss some recent results concerning the regularity and irregularity of the Bergman and Szegő projections on some weakly pseudoconvex domains that have the common feature to possess a nontrivial Nebenhülle.
Firstly, we consider the unitary geometry of two exceptional Cartan domains $\Re_{V}(16)$ and $\Re_{VI}(27)$. We obtain the explicit formulas of Bergman kernal funtion, Cauchy-Szegö kernel, Poinsson kernel and Bergman metric for $\Re_{V}(16)$ and $\Re_{VI}(27)$. Secondly, we give a class of invariant differential operators for Cartan domain $\Re$ of dimension n: If the Bergman metric of $\Re$ is $$ds^{2}=\sum\limits_{i,j=1}^{n}g_{ij}dz_{i}d\bar{z}_{j}, T(z,\bar{z})=(g_{ij})$$ and $$L(u)=T^{-1}(z,\bar{z}) [\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial z_i\partial\bar{z}_j}],$$then $$L_j(u)=\{\mbox {The sum of al…
We present the theory of Cauchy-Fantappié integral operators, with emphasis on the situation when the domain of integration, $D$, has minimal boundary regularity. Among these operators we focus on those that are more closely related to the classical Cauchy integral for a planar domain, whose kernel is a holomorphic function of the parameter $z\in D$. The goal is to prove $L^p$ estimates for these operators and, as a consequence, to obtain $L^p$ estimates for the canonical Cauchy-Szegö and Bergman projection operators (which are not of Cauchy-Fantappié type).
