The $Q$-prime curvature is a local invariant of pseudo-Einstein contact forms on integrable strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. The transformation law of the $Q$-prime curvature under scaling is given in terms of a differential operator, called the $P$-prime operator, acting on the space of CR pluriharmonic functions. In this paper, we generalize these objects to the boundaries of asymptotically complex hyperbolic Einstein (ACHE) manifolds, which are partially integrable, strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds, by using the scattering matrix for ACHE manifolds. In this setting, the $P$-prime operator is a self-adjoint pseudodifferential operator acting on smooth functions and the $Q$-prime curvature is globally determined by the ACHE manifold and the choice of a contact form on the boundary. We prove that the integral of the $Q$-prime curvature is a conformal primitive of the $Q$-curvature; in particular, it defines an invariant of ACHE manifolds whose boundaries admit a contact form with zero $Q$-curvature. We also apply the generalized $Q$-prime curvature to compute the renormalized volume of strictly pseudoconvex domains whose boundaries may not admit pseudo-Einstein structure.
We prove a local boundary regularity result for the complete Kahler-Einstein metrics of negative Ricci curvature near strictly pseudoconvex boundary point. We also study the asymptotic behaviour of their holomorphic bisectional curvatures near such points.
We construct a complete proper holomorphic embedding from any strictly pseudoconvex domain with $\mathcal{C}^2$-boundary in $\mathbb{C}^n$ into the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^N$, for $N$ large enough, thereby answering a question of Alarcon and Forstneric.
For a smooth strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface in a complex manifold, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for being CR-diffeomorphic to a real-analytic CR manifold. Our condition amounts to a holomorphic extension property for the canonically associated function expressing $2$-jets of the formal Segre varieties in terms of their $1$-jets. We also express this condition in equivalent terms for a Fefferman type determinant
We prove that every bounded strictly $J$-convex region equipped with the Kobayashi metric is hyperbolic in the sense of Gromov. We apply this result to the study of the dynamics of pseudo-holomorphic maps.
This short paper gives a constraint on Chern classes of closed strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds (or equivalently, closed holomorphically fillable contact manifolds) of dimension at least five. We also see that our result is ''optimal'' through some examples.
This is a survey on the correspondence between asymptotically complex hyperbolic Einstein metrics and CR structures on the boundary at infinity, which is the complex version of that between Poincaré-Einstein metrics and conformal structures. We mainly discuss existence theorems, and propose several open problems.
In this note, we affirm the partial answer to the long open Conjecture which states that any closed embeddable strictly pseudoconvex CR $3$-manifold admits a contact form $θ$ with the vanishing CR $Q$-curvature. More precisely, we deform the contact form according to an CR analogue of $Q$%-curvature flow in a closed strictly pseudoconvex CR $3$-manifold $(M,\ J,[θ_{0}])$ of the vanishing first Chern class $c_{1}(T_{1,0}M)$. Suppose that $M$ is embeddable and the CR Paneitz operator $P_{0}$ is nonnegative with kernel consisting of the CR pluriharmonic functions. We show that the solution of CR …
The metrics of S. Y. Cheng and S.-T. Yau are considered on a strictly pseudoconvex domains in a complex manifold. Such a manifold carries a complete Kähler-Einstein metric if and only if its canonical bundle is positive. We consider the restricted case in which the CR structure on $\partial M$ is normal. In this case M must be a domain in a resolution of the Sasaki cone over $\partial M$. We give a condition on a normal CR manifold which it cannot satisfy if it is a CR infinity of a Kähler-Einstein manifold. We are able to mostly determine those normal CR 3-manifolds which can be CR infinities…
We construct new complete Einstein metrics on smoothly bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains in Stein manifolds. This is done by deforming the Kähler-Einstein metric of Cheng and Yau, the approach that generalizes the works of Roth and Biquard on the deformations of the complex hyperbolic metric on the unit ball. Recasting the problem into the question of vanishing of an $L^2$ cohomology and taking advantage of the asymptotic complex hyperbolicity of the Cheng-Yau metric, we establish the possibility of such a deformation when the dimension of the domain is larger than or equal to three.
On a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$, $n>1$, the smoothness of the Cheng-Yau solution to Fefferman's complex Monge-Ampere equation up to the boundary is obstructed by a local curvature invariant of the boundary. For bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^2$ which are diffeomorphic to the ball, we motivate and consider the problem of determining whether the global vanishing of this obstruction implies biholomorphic equivalence to the unit ball. In particular we observe that, up to biholomorphism, the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^2$ is rigid with respect to defor…
We prove that proper pseudo-holomorphic maps between strictly pseudoconvex regions in almost complex manifolds extend to the boundary. The key point is that the Jacobian is far from zero near the boundary, and the proof is mainly based on an almost complex analogue of the scaling method. We also establish a link between the regularity of the extension and the regularity of the almost complex structures, and we determine explicit estimates for the Hölderian norms. As a corollary, we get in the smooth case a necessary and sufficient condition on the almost complex structure of the target's space…
In this paper, we give some rigidity results for both harmonic and pseudoharmonic maps from CR manifolds into Riemannian manifolds or Kahler manifolds. Some basicity, pluriharmonicity and Siu-Sampson type results are established for both harmonic maps and pseudoharmonic maps.
In this paper, by applying a linear trace Li-Yau-Hamilton inequality for a positive (1,1)-form solution of the CR Hodge-Laplace heat equation and monotonicity of the heat equation deformation, we obtain an optimal gap theorem for a complete strictly pseudocovex CR manifold with nonnegative pseudohermitian bisectional curvature and vanishing torsion. We prove that if the average of the Tanaka-Webster scalar curvature over a ball of radius centered at some point o decays as $o(r^{-2})$, then the manifold is flat.
We establish inequalities for the eigenvalues of the sub-Laplace operator associated with a pseudo-Hermitian structure on a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold. Our inequalities extend those obtained by Niu and Zhang \cite{NiuZhang} for the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the sub-Laplacian on a bounded domain in the Heisenberg group and are in the spirit of the well known Payne-Pólya-Weinberger and Yang universal inequalities.
The scattering operators associated to an ACHE metric of Bergman type on a strictly pseudovonvex domain are a one-parameter family of CR-conformally invariant pseudodifferntial operators of Heisenberg class with respect to the induced CR structure on the boundary. In this paper, we mainly show that if the boundary Webster scalar curvature is positive, then for $γ\in(0,1)$ the renormalised scattering operator $P_{2γ}$ has positive spectrum and satisfies the maximum principal; moreover, the fractional curvature $Q_{2γ}$ is also positive. This is parallel to the result of Guillarmou-Qing \cite{GQ…
We consider a class of complete Kahler manifolds with a strictly pseudoconvex boundary at infinity. After studying its asymptotic geometry, we formulate a conjecture in the Kahler-Einstein case relating the bottom of spectrum to the CR geometry on the boundary. We prove some partial results.
The Newlander-Nirenberg theorem says that a formally integrable complex structure is locally equivalent to the standard complex structure in the complex Euclidean space. In this paper, we consider two natural generalizations of the Newlander-Nirenberg theorem under the presence of a $C^2$ strictly pseudoconvex boundary. When a given formally integrable complex structure $X$ is defined on the closure of a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain with $C^2$ boundary $D\subset \mathbb{C}^n$, we show the existence of global holomorphic coordinate systems defined on $\overline{D}$ that transform $X$ in…
A unimodular complex surface is a complex 2-manifold X endowed with a holomorphic volume form. A strictly pseudoconvex real hypersurface M in X inherits not only a CR-structure but a canonical coframing as well. In this article, this canonical coframing on M is defined, its invariants are discussed and interpreted geometrically, and its basic properties are studied. A natural evolution equation for strictly pseudoconvex real hypersurfaces in unimodular complex surfaces is defined, some of its properties are discussed, and several examples are computed. The locally homogeneous examples are dete…
We prove that the total CR $Q$-curvature vanishes for any compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold. We also prove the formal self-adjointness of the $P^\prime$-operator and the CR invariance of the total $Q^\prime$-curvature for any pseudo-Einstein manifold without the assumption that it bounds a Stein manifold.
We consider the CR Yamabe flow on a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold $M$ of real dimension $2n+1$. We prove convergence of the CR Yamabe flow when $n=1$ or $M$ is spherical.
In this paper it is shown that a CR embedding from one strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface into another (of strictly larger dimension) sends chains on the source to chains on the target if and only if the embedding has a lift to a conformal isometry of the associated Fefferman bundles with vanishing pseudo-Riemannian second fundamental form. When the target is a sphere these conditions simplify nicely.
We establish Szegő kernel asymptotic expansions on non-compact strictly pseudoconvex complete CR manifolds with transversal CR $\mathbb{R}$-action under certain natural geometric conditions.
In this note, we first give a criterion of pseudo-Einstein contact forms and then affirm the CR analogue of Frankel conjecture in a closed, spherical, strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold of nonnegative pseudohermitian curvature on the space of smooth representatives of the first Kohn-Rossi cohomology group. Moreover, we obtain the CR Frankel conjecture in a closed, spherical, strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold with the vanishing first Kohn-Rossi cohomology group. In particular, this conjecture holds in a spherical boundary of the Stein manifold.
We derive variational formulas for the total Q-prime curvature under the deformation of strictly pseudoconvex domains in a complex manifold. We also show that the total Q-prime curvature agrees with the renormalized volume of such domains with respect to the complete Einstein-Kähler metric. In the appendix, by Rod Gover and the first author, we study the property of CR invariant differential operator of order 2(n+3) on 2n+1 dimensional CR manifolds that appears in the second variational formula of the total Q-prime curvature.
Let $M$ be the image of a smooth CR embedding of a strictly pseudoconvex CR real hypersurface into a sphere. If the CR second fundamental form of $M$ vanishes, we show that $M$ is a totally geodesic submanifold.
This paper deals with the notion of quadratic differential in spherical CR geometry (or more generally on strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds). We get to this notion by studying a splitting of Rumin complex and discuss its first features such as trajectories and length. We also define several differential operators on quadratic differentials that lead to analogue of half-translation structures on spherical CR manifolds. Finally, we work on known examples of quasiconformal maps in the Heisenberg group with extremal properties and explicit how quadratic differentials are involved in those. In add…
We establish a lower estimate for the Kobayashi-Royden infinitesimal pseudometric on an almost complex manifold $(M,J)$ admitting a bounded strictly plurisubharmonic function. We apply this result to study the boundary behaviour of the metric on a strictly pseudoconvex domain in $M$ and to give a sufficient condition for the complete hyperbolicity of a domain in $(M,J)$. Finally we obtain the regularity up to the bounday of $J$-holomorphic discs attached to a totally real submanifold in $M$.
In this note, we mainly focus on the existence of pseudo-Einstein contact forms, an upper bound eigenvalue estimate for the CR Paneitz operator and its applications to the uniformization theorem for Sasakian space form in an embeddable closed strictly pseudoconvex CR 3-manifold. Firstly, the existence of pseudo-Einstein contact form is confirmed if the CR 3-manifold is Sasakian. Secondly, we derive an eigenvalue upper bound estimate for the CR Paneitz operator and obtain the CR uniformization theorem for a class of CR 3-manifolds. At the end, under the positivity assumption of the pseudohermit…
In this paper, we show that the CR $Q$-curvature is orthogonal to the space of CR pluriharmonic functions on any closed strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold of dimension at least five. To this end, we obtain a cohomological expression of the integral of the product of the CR $Q$-curvature and a CR pluriharmonic function.
A pseudo-Einstein contact form plays a crucial role in defining some global invariants of closed strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. In this paper, we prove that the existence of a pseudo-Einstein contact form is preserved under deformations as a real hypersurface in a fixed complex manifold of complex dimension at least three.
An n-dimensional strictly pseudoconvex Hartogs domain D_F can be equipped with a natural Kaehler metric g_F. In this paper we prove that if m_0g_F is balanced for a given positive integer m_0 then m_0>n and (D_F, g_F) is holomorphically isometric to an open subset of the n-dimensional complex hyperbolic space.
We propose a global invariant $σ_c$ for contact manifolds which admit a strictly pseudoconvex CR structure, analogous to the Yamabe invariant $σ$. We prove that this invariant is non-decreasing under handle attaching and under connected sum. We then give a lower bound on $σ_c$ in a particular case.
We prove that any real analytic strictly pseudoconvex CR 3-manifold is the boundary (at infinity) of a unique selfdual Einstein metric defined in a neighborhood. The proof uses a new construction of twistor space based on singular rational curves.
We study the minimality of an isometric immersion of a Riemannian manifold into a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold endowed with the Webster metric hence formulate a version of the CR Yamabe problem for CR manifolds-with-boundary. This is shown to be a nonlinear subelliptic problem of variational origin.
We first obtain the interior $C^{1,1}$-regularity and solvability for the degenerate real Monge-Ampère equation in a bounded, $C^3$-smooth and strictly convex domain in $\mathbb R^d$ ($d\ge2$), assuming that the boundary data is only globally $C^{1,1}$, and the $d$-th root of the nonnegative right-hand side is globally $C^{0,1}$ and convex after adding $K|x|^2$ for some constant $K$. Then we establish the interior $C^{1,1}$-regularity and solvability for the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation in a bounded, $C^3$-smooth and strictly pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb C^d$, under the global $…
We study subelliptic biharmonic maps, i.e. smooth maps from a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold M into a Riemannian manifold N which are critical points of a certain bienergy functional. We show that a map is subelliptic biharmonic if and only if its vertical lift to the (total space of the) canonical circle bundle is a biharmonic map with respect to the Fefferman metric.
On a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold $(M,þ)$, we consider the CR Yamabe constant of its infinite conformal covering. By using the maximum principles, we then prove a uniqueness theorem for the CR Yamabe flow on a complete noncompact CR manifold. Finally we obtain some properties of the CR Yamabe soliton on complete noncompact CR manifolds.
