We prove that any real analytic strictly pseudoconvex CR 3-manifold is the boundary (at infinity) of a unique selfdual Einstein metric defined in a neighborhood. The proof uses a new construction of twistor space based on singular rational curves.
We consider the reduced twistor space $Z$ of an almost Hermitian manifold $M$, after O'Brian and Rawnsley (Ann. Global Anal. Geom., 1985). We concentrate on dimension 6. This space has a natural almost complex structure $\mathcal J$ associated to the canonical Hermitian connection. A necessary condition for the integrability of $\mathcal J$ on $Z$ is that the manifold belongs to the class $W_1 \oplus W_4$ of Gray, Hervella. In a second part, we then show that the almost Hermitian manifolds of type $W_1 \oplus W_4$ are all locally conformally nearly Kähler in dimension 6. Finally, $\mathcal J$ …
To give an almost quaternionic structure on a 4n-manifold $M$ is equivalent to give its bundle of twistors $Z(Q)\longrightarrow M$. When $Q$ is invariant under a torsion free connection, $Z(Q) $ can be provided with an almost complex structure $ \mathbb J $. In the case $ n = 1 $ Atiyah, Hitchin and Singer have related the integrability of $ \mathbb J $ to the geometry of $ (M, Q) $. For $ n> 1 $ Salamon showed that the almost complex structure $ \mathbb J $ on $ Z (Q) $ is always integrable. The purpose of this article is to extend these results to the generalized complex geometry. We begin b…
We consider a local algebra A (in the sense of André Weil), M a smooth paracompact manifold and M^{A} the manifold of infinietly near points on M of kind A. In this paper, we define and study the notions of A-Jacobi structures on M^{A}.
Let (M,g) be a 3-dimensional compact connected real analytic Lorentz manifold and suppose that g is locally homogeneous on a non-empty open set in M (the pseudogroup of local isometries of g has an open orbit). Then we prove that g is locally homogeneous on M (the pseudogroup of local isometries is transitive on M).
We give a topological interpretation of the space of L2-harmonic forms on finite-volume manifolds with sufficiently pinched negative curvature. We give examples showing that this interpretation fails if the curvature is not sufficiently pinched and that our result is sharp with respect to the pinching constants. The method consists first in comparing L2-cohomology with weighted L2-cohomology thanks to previuos works done by T. Ohsawa, and then in identifying these weighted spaces.
Let M be a smooth manifold, A a local algebra in sense of André Weil, M^{A} the manifold of near points on M of kind A and X(M^{A}) the module of vector fields on M^{A}. We give a new definition of vector fields on M^{A} and we show that X(M^{A}) is a Lie algebra over A. We study the cohomology of A-differential forms.
The systole of a compact non simply connected Riemannian manifold is the smallest length of a non-contractible closed curve ; the systolic ratio is the quotient $(\mathrm{systole})^n/\mathrm{volume}$. Its supremum on the set of all the riemannian metrics, is known to be finite for a large class of manifolds, including the $K(π,1)$. We study the optimal systolic ratio of compact, 3-dimensional non orientable Bieberbach manifolds, and prove that it cannot be realized by a flat metric.
We prove that some symetric semi-riemannian manifolds do not admit a proper domain which is divisible by the action of a discrete group of isometries. In other words, if a closed semi-riemannian manifold is locally isometric to such a model, and if its developing map is injective, then the manifold is actually geodesically complete, and therefore isometric to a quotient of the whole model space. Those results extend, under additional hypothesis (the injectivity of the developing map), the theorems of Carriere and Klingler stating that closed lorentz manifolds of constant curvature are geodesic…
Let M be an almost Hermitian manifold of dimension greater or equal to 6. The following theorems are proved: Theorem 1. If M is of pointwise constant θ-holomorphic sectional curvature for a number θ in (0,π/2) then M is of constant sectional curvature or a Kähler manifold of constant holomorphic sectional curvature. Theorem 2. If M is of pointwise constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature and M is an RK-manifold (or AH3-manifold), then M is of constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature.
Let $(M,g,\si)$ be a compact spin manifold of dimension $n \geq 2$. Let $λ_1^+(\tilde{g})$ be the smallest positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator in the metric $\tilde{g} \in [g]$ conformal to $g$. We then define $\lamin(M,[g],\si) = \inf_{\tilde{g} \in [g]} λ_1^+(\tilde{g}) \Vol(M,\tilde{g})^{1/n} $. We show that $0< \lamin(M,[g],\si) \leq \lamin(\mS^n)$. %=\frac{n}{2} \om_n^{1 \over n}$ . We find sufficient conditions for which we obtain strict inequality $\lamin(M,[g],\si) < \lamin(\mS^n)$. This strict inequality has applications to conformal spin geometry. ----- Soit $(M,g,\si)$ une var…
Let $X$ be a complex non-singular toric variety, $E$ an equivariant and ample line bundle on $X$. We introduce a new functional $V_\infty$ on the set of smooth, positive and invariant metrics on $E$. We compare $V_\infty$ to some classical functionals. As an application, we study the variation of the holomorphic analytic torsion.
For certain real hypersurfaces in the projective space, of signature (1,n), we study the filling problem for small deformations of the CR structure (the other signatures being well understood). We characterize the deformations which are fillable, and prove that they have infinite codimension in the set of all CR structures. This result generalizes the cases of the 3-sphere and of signature (1,1) to higher dimension.
Two problems concerning asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds with an inner boundary are studied. First, we study scalar curvature presciption with either Dirichlet or mean curvature prescription interior boundary condition. Then we apply those results to the Lichnerowicz equation with (future or past) apparent horizon interior boundary condition. In the last part we show how to construct TT-tensors. Thus we obtain Cauchy data with constant mean curvature for Einstein vacuum equations.
We study in this work the existence of minimizing solutions to the critical-power type equation $\triangle_{\textbf{g}}u+h.u = f.u^{\frac{n+2}{n-2}}$ on a compact riemannian manifold in the limit case normally not solved by variational methods. For this purpose, we use a concept of "critical function" that was originally introduced by E. Hebey and M. Vaugon for the study of second best constant in the Sobolev embeddings. Along the way, we prove an important estimate concerning concentration phenomena's when $f$ is a non-constant function. We give here intuitive details.
We show that contact homology distinguishes infinitely many tight contact structures on any orientable, toroidal, irreducible 3-manifold. As a consequence of the contact homology computations, on a very large class of toroidal manifolds, all known examples of universally tight contact structures with nonvanishing torsion satisfy the Weinstein conjecture. ----- On montre que l'homologie de contact distingue une infinite de structures de contact tendues sur toute variete toroidale irreductible et orientable de dimension trois. En consequence des calculs d'homologie de contact, sur une tres large…
These are notes of lectures given at the Third School of Theoretical Physics in Jijel (Algeria, September 2009). The subject of these notes is differential geometry, complex and quaternionic structures with applications to theoretical physics. Concerning the physical applications, they contain several aspects of Penrose transformation in the Riemannian context (Euclidean signature) and various formulations of the Yang-Mills and Einstein equations among which several are unusual ones.
In this paper, we study the global behaviour of contact structures on oriented manifolds V which are circle bundles over a closed orientable surface S of genus g>0. We establish in particular contact analogs of a number of classical results about foliations due to Milnor, Wood, Thurston, Matsumoto, and Ghys. In Section~1, we prove that V carries a (positive) contact structure transverse to the fibers if and only if the Euler number of the fibration is less or equal to 2g-2. In Section~2, we show that, for any contact structure $ξ$ on V, one of the following properties holds: either $ξ$ is isot…
We prove that if a closed unit volume Riemannian manifold, $(M^n, g)$, has Ricci curvature bounded from below by r>0 then the Yamabe constant of the conformal class of $g$ is at least $n.r$. This inequality has already been proved by S. Ilias (Constantes explicites pour les inegalites de Sobolev sur les varietes riemannienes compactes, Ann. Inst. Fourier 33, 151-165). The equality is achieved if the metric is Einstein (with Ricci curvature r). This implies for instance that if $h$ is the Fubini-Study metric on $CP^2$ and $g$ is any other metric on $CP^2$ with $Ricci(g) \geq Ricci(h)$ then $Vol…
