There are a number of publications on relativistic objects dealing either with black holes or naked singularities in the center. Here we show that there exist static spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein equations with a strongly nonlinear scalar field, which allow the appearance of singularities of a new type (``spherical singularities'') outside the center of curvature coordinates. As the example, we consider a scalar field potential $\sim$$\sinh(ϕ^{2n}),\,n>2$, which grows rapidly for large field values. The space-time is assumed to be asymptotically flat. We fulfill a numerical investigation of solutions with different $n$ for different parameters, which define asymptotic properties at spatial infinity. Depending on the configuration parameters, we show that the distribution of the stable circular orbits of test bodies around the configuration is either similar to that in the case of the Schwarzschild solution (thus mimicking an ordinary black hole), or it contains additional rings of unstable orbits.
We study spherically symmetric timelike thin-shells in $3+1-$dimensional bulk spacetime with a variable equation of state for the fluid presented on the shell. In such a fluid the angular pressure $p$ is a function of both surface energy density $σ$ and the radius $R$ of the thin-shell. Explicit cases of the thin shells connecting two non-identical cloud of strings spacetimes and a flat Minkowski spacetime to the Schwarzschild metric are investigated.
This paper presents a general existence and uniqueness result for harmonic maps with prescribed singularities into non-positively curved targets, and surveys a number of applications to general relativity. It is based on a talk delivered by the author at The 11th Mathematical Society of Japan Seasonal Institute, The Role of Metrics in the Theory of Partial Differential Equations.
We study test-body orbits in the gravitational field of a static spherically symmetric object in presence of a minimally coupled nonlinear scalar field. We generated a two-parametric family of scalar field potentials, which allow finding solutions of Einstein's equations in an analytic form. The results are presented by means of hypergeometric functions; they describe either a naked singularity (NS) or a black hole (BH). Our numerical investigation shows that in both cases the stable circular orbits can form separated (non-connected) regions around the configuration. We found existence conditi…
The Constraints in Spherically Symmetric General Relativity I --- Optical Scalars, Foliations, Bounds on the Configuration Space Variables and the Positivity of the Quasi-Local Mass
We investigate here the locally naked singularity formed due to a spherically symmetric inhomogeneous collapsing cloud having non-zero isotropic pressure, in terms of its strength. Sufficient condition provided by Clarke and Krolak for it to be Tipler strong has been used to restrict the parameters that represent the non-linear relation between the physical radius and the radial coordinate of the outgoing radial null geodesic at the singular center. Studying end state of a collapsing cloud requires information about the dynamics of collapse, which is unknown in a general scenario. Hence we stu…
In the present work we analyze all the possible spherically symmetric exterior vacuum solutions allowed by the Einstein-Aether theory with static aether. We show that there are four classes of solutions corresponding to different values of a combination of the free parameters, $c_{14}=c_1+c_4$, which are: $ 0 < c_{14}<2$, $c_{14} < 0$, $c_{14}=2$ and $c_{14}=0$. We present explicit analytical solutions for $c_{14}=3/2, 16/9, 48/25, -16, 2$ and $0$. The first case has some pathological behavior, while the rest have all singularities at $r=0$ and are asymptotically flat spacetimes. For the solut…
We study 4-dimensional non-charged and charged spherically symmetric spacetimes in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. We apply the gravitational field equations in non-charged and charged spacetimes to the diagonal and non-diagonal vierbeins and derive their sets of the non-linear differential equations. It is demonstrated that the Schwarzschild, for the non-charged case, and the Reissner-Nordström, for the charged case, are the only black hole solutions for the spherically symmetric case in the framework of the conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity theo…

We consider singularities of static spherically symmetric objects in minimal dilatonic gravity. They are only partially studied and purely understood even in the simplest models of extended gravity. We introduce the proper form of the structure equations and derive a set of all singularities, which turn to form several types of sub-manifolds of the phase space. We also introduce for the first time the Lyapunov function for the corresponding system, its equation, and its basic properties. The dependence on the mass of the dark scalar is discussed.

We investigate static and spherically symmetric solutions in the Minimal Theory of Bigravity (MTBG). First, we show that a pair of Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetimes with different cosmological constants and black hole masses written in the spatially-flat Gullstrand-Painlevé (GP) coordinates is a solution in the self-accelerating branch of MTBG, while it cannot be a solution in the normal branch. We then illustrate how Schwarzschild-de Sitter solutions can become compatible with the normal branch when using different coordinates. We also confirm that the self-accelerating branch of MTBG admits…
In a recent paper we showed that the collapse to a black hole in one-parameter families of initial data for massless, minimally coupled scalar fields in spherically symmetric semi-classical loop quantum gravity exhibited a universal mass scaling similar to the one in classical general relativity. In particular, no evidence of a mass gap appeared as had been suggested by previous studies. The lack of a mass gap indicated the possible existence of a self-similar critical solution as in general relativity. Here we provide further evidence for its existence. Using an adaptive mesh refinement code,…
We investigate static, spherically symmetric solutions in gravitational theories which have limited curvature invariants, aiming to remove the singularity in the Schwarzschild space-time. We find that if we only limit the Gauss-Bonnet term and the Ricci scalar, then the singularity at the origin persists. Moreover we find that the event horizon can develop a curvature singularity. We also investigate a new class of theories in which all components of the Riemann tensor are bounded. We find that the divergence of the quadratic curvature invariants at the event horizon is avoidable in this theor…
This paper continues the investigation of the formation of naked singularities in the collapse of collisionless matter initiated in [RV]. There the existence of certain classes of non-smooth solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system was proved. Those solutions are self-similar and hence not asymptotically flat. To obtain solutions which are more physically relevant it makes sense to attempt to cut off these solutions in a suitable way so as to make them asymptotically flat. This task, which turns out to be technically challenging, will be carried out in this paper. [RV] A. D. Rendall and J. J. L…
We propose a method for numerical relativity in which the spatial grid is finite and no outer boundary condition is needed. As a "proof of concept" we implement this method for the case of a self-gravitating, spherically symmetric scalar field.
