Integrals of motion are constructed from noncommutative (NC) Kepler dynamics, generating $SO(3),$ $SO(4),$ and $SO(1,3)$ dynamical symmetry groups. The Hamiltonian vector field is derived in action-angle coordinates, and the existence of a hierarchy of bi-Hamiltonian structures is highlighted. Then, a family of Nijenhuis recursion operators is computed and discussed.
The Mishchenko-Fomenko theorem on superintegrable Hamiltonian systems is generalized to superintegrable Hamiltonian systems with noncompact invariant submanifolds. It is formulated in the case of globally superintegrable Hamiltonian systems which admit global generalized action-angle coordinates. The well known Kepler system falls into two different globally superintegrable systems with compact and noncompact invariant submanifolds.
This work addresses the Hamiltonian dynamics of the Kepler problem in a deformed phase space, by considering the equatorial orbit. The recursion operators are constructed and used to compute the integrals of motion. The same investigation is performed with the introduction of the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector. The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures is also elucidated. Related properties are studied.
The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures for the Kepler problem is studied. We first relate the superintegrability of the system with the existence of two complex functions endowed with very interesting Poisson bracket properties and then we prove the existence of a quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structure by making use of these two functions. The paper can be considered as divided in two parts. In the first part a quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structure is obtained by making use of polar coordinates and in the second part a new quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structure is obtained by making use of the separability…
Integrals of motion of a Hamiltonian system need not be commutative. The classical Mishchenko-Fomenko theorem enables one to quantize a noncommutative completely integrable Hamiltonian system around its invariant submanifold as an abelian completely integrable Hamiltonian system.
For each simple euclidean Jordan algebra $V$, we introduce the analogue of hamiltonian, angular momentum and Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector in the Kepler problem. Being referred to as the universal hamiltonian, universal angular momentum and universal Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector respectively, they are elements in (essentially) the TKK (Tits-Kantor-Koecher) algebra of $V$ and satisfy commutation relations similar to the ones for the hamiltonian, angular momentum and Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector in the Kepler problem. We also give some examples of Poisson realization of the TKK algebra, along with the res…
We generalize the two dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical system to three dimensions using the sl(2,R) invariance of Noether symmetries and determine all three dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical systems which are Liouville integrable via Noether symmetries. Subsequently we generalize the autonomous Kepler Ermakov system in a Riemannian space which admits a gradient homothetic vector by the requirements (a) that it admits a first integral (the Riemannian Ermakov invariant) and (b) it has sl(2,R) invariance. We consider both the non-Hamiltonian an…
This paper defines a class of variational problems on Lie groups that admit involutive automorphisms. The maximum Principle of optimal control then identifies the appropriate left invariant Hamiltonians on the Lie algebra of the group. The corresponding Hamiltonian equations admit a spectral representation with important applications to the theory of integrable systems. Particular cases make a link to Moser's work relating the solutions of Kepler's problem to the geodesics on spaces of constant curvature, Newmann's mechanical problem on the sphere and related geodesic problem of Jacobi on an e…
We study four particular 3-dimensional natural Hamiltonian systems defined in conformally Euclidean spaces. We prove their superintegrability and we obtain, in the four cases, the maximal number of functionally independent integrals of motion. The two first systems are related to the 3-dimensional isotropic oscillator and the superintegrability is quadratic. The third system is obtained as a continuous deformation of an oscillator with ratio of frequencies 1:1:2 and with three additional nonlinear terms of the form $k_2/x^2$, $k_3/y^2$ and $k_4/z^2$, and the fourth system is obtained as a defo…
The superintegrability of two-dimensional Hamiltonians with a position dependent mass (pdm) is studied (the kinetic term contains a factor $m$ that depends of the radial coordinate). First, the properties of Killing vectors are studied and the associated Noether momenta are obtained. Then the existence of several families of superintegrable Hamiltonians is proved and the quadratic integrals of motion are explicitly obtained. These families include, as particular cases, some systems previously obtained making use of different approaches. We also relate the superintegrability of some of these pd…
This work provides a first step towards the construction of a noncommutative geometry for the quantum Hall effect in the continuum. Taking inspiration from the ideas developed by Bellissard during the 80's we build a spectral triple for the $C^*$-algebra of continuous magnetic operators based on a Dirac operator with compact resolvent. The metric aspects of this spectral triple are studied, and an important piece of Bellissard's theory (the so-called first Connes' formula) is proved.
The main point of this paper is to examine a "hidden" dynamical symmetry connected with the conservation of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector (LRL) in the hydrogen atom problem solved by means of noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM). The basic features of NCQM will be introduced to the reader, the key one being the fact that the notion of a point, or a zero distance in the considered configuration space, is abandoned and replaced with a "fuzzy" structure in such a way that the rotational invariance is preserved. The main facts about the conservation of LRL vector in both classical and quantum theor…
We study the regularized $(2n-1)$-Kepler problem and other Hamiltonian systems which are related to the nilpotent coadjoint orbits of $U(n,n)$. The Kustaanheimo-Stiefel and Cayley regularization procedures are discussed and their equivalence is shown. Some integrable generalization (perturbation) of $(2n-1)$-Kepler problem is proposed.
When a non-hermitian hamiltonian has a certain symmetry, such as the PT pseudo-hermiticity, it is still possible that the hamiltonian has a real spectrum. In this note, by adding an imaginary potential proportional to ip_1p_2 to the hamiltonian of an anisotropic planar oscillator, we construct a PT pseudo-hermitian hamiltonian and obtain its real spectrum. In addition, we find that the reality of the energy spectrum remains when the model is extended to the canonical noncommutative space.
This series of papers is devoted to an open-ended project aimed at the solution of Hilbert's sixth problem (concerning joint axiomatization of physics and probability theory) proposed to be constructed in the framework of an all-embracing mechanics. In this first paper, the bare skeleton of such a mechanics is constructed in the form of noncommutative Hamiltonian mechanics (NHM) which combines elements of noncommutative symplectic geometry and noncommutative probability in the framework of topological superalgebras; it includes, besides NHM basics, a treatment of Lie group actions in NHM and n…
The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures for a two-dimensional superintegrable $(k_1,k_2,k_3)$-dependent Kepler-related problem is studied. We make use of an approach that is related with the existence of some complex functions which satisfy interesting Poisson bracket relations and that was previously applied to the standard Kepler problem as well as to some particular superintegrable systems as the Smorodinsky-Winternitz (SW) system, the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz (TTW) and Post-Winternitz (PW) systems. We prove that these complex functions are important for two reasons: first, the…
We study two-dimensional Hamiltonians in phase space with noncommutativity both in coordinates and momenta. We consider the generator of rotations on the noncommutative plane and the Lie algebra generated by Hermitian rotationally invariant quadratic forms of noncommutative dynamical variables. We show that two quantum phases are possible, characterized by the Lie algebras $sl(2,\mathbb{R})$ or $su(2)$ according to the relation between the noncommutativity parameters, with the rotation generator related with the Casimir operator. From this algebraic perspective, we analyze the spectrum of some…
In this work we present a general formalism to treat non-Hermitian and noncommutative Hamiltonians. This is done employing the phase-space formalism of quantum mechanics, which allows to write a set of robust maps connecting the Hamitonians and the associated Wigner functions to the different Hilbert space structures, namely, those describing the non-Hermitian and noncommutative, Hermitian and noncommutative, and Hermitian and commutative systems. A general recipe is provided to obtain the expected values of the more general Hamiltonian. Finally, we apply our method to the harmonic oscillator …
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a (matrix) Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We completely determine the spectrum of the Hamiltonian linearized around a ground state soliton and prove the optimal decay rate of $t^{-1}\log^{-2}t$ for the associated time decay estimate. We use a novel technique involving generating functions of orthogonal polynom…
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We prove pointwise in time decay estimates, with the optimal decay rate $t^{-1}\log^{-2}t$ generically. We use a novel technique involving generating functions of orthogonal polynomials to achieve this estimate.
The Mishchenko-Fomenko theorem on noncommutative integrability of Hamiltonian systems on a symplectic manifold is extended to the case of noncompact invariant submanifolds.
Bound and scattering states of a non-central extension of the three-dimensional Kepler-Coulomb Hamiltonian are worked out analytically within the framework of the potential groups of the problem, SO(7) for bound states and SO(6,1) for scattering states. In the latter case, the S matrix is calculated by the method of intertwining operators.
Noncommutative oscillators are first-quantized through an abelian Drinfel'd twist deformation of a Hopf algebra and its action on a module. Several important and subtle issues making possible the quantization are solved. The spectrum of the single-particle Hamiltonians is computed. The multi-particle Hamiltonians are fixed, unambiguously, by the Hopf algebra coproduct. The symmetry under particle exchange is guaranteed. In d=2 dimensions the rotational invariance is preserved, while in d=3 the so(3) rotational invariance is broken down to an so(2) invariance.
In the three dimensional flat space any classical Hamiltonian, which has five functionally independent integrals of motion, including the Hamiltonian, is characterized as superintegrable. Kalnins, Kress and Miller have proved that, in the case of non degenerate potentials, i.e potentials depending linearly on four parameters, with quadratic symmetries, posses a sixth quadratic integral, which is linearly independent of the other integrals. The existence of this sixth integral imply that the integrals of motion form a ternary parafermionic-like quadratic Poisson algebra with five generators. Th…
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We construct a ground state soliton for this equation and analyze its properties. In particular we arrive at $\ell^{\infty}$ and $\ell^{1}$ estimates as well as a quasi-exponential spatial decay rate.
The $N$-dimensional quantum Hamiltonian $ \hat{H} = -\frac{\hbar^2 {|\mathbf{q} } | }{2(η+| {\mathbf{q}} |)} {\mathbf{\nabla}}^2 - \frac{k}{η+ |{\mathbf{q}} |} $ is shown to be exactly solvable for any real positive value of the parameter $η$. Algebraically, this Hamiltonian system can be regarded as a new maximally superintegrable $η$-deformation of the $N$-dimensional Kepler-Coulomb Hamiltonian while, from a geometric viewpoint, this superintegrable Hamiltonian can be interpreted as a system on an $N$-dimensional Riemannian space with nonconstant curvature. The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions…
We consider classical and quantum mechanics related to an additional noncommutativity, symmetric in position and momentum coordinates. We show that such mechanical system can be transformed to the corresponding one which allows employment of the usual formalism. In particular, we found explicit connections between quadratic Hamiltonians and Lagrangians, in their commutative and noncommutative regimes. In the quantum case we give general procedure how to compute Feynman's path integral in this noncommutative phase space with quadratic Lagrangians (Hamiltonians). This approach is applied to a ch…
In this work we study the differential aspects of the noncommutative geometry for the magnetic $C^*$-algebra which is a 2-cocycle deformation of the group $C^*$-algebra of $\mathbb{R}^2$. This algebra is intimately related to the study of the Quantum Hall Effect in the continuous, and our results aim to provide a new geometric interpretation of the related Kubo's formula. Taking inspiration from the ideas developed by Bellissard during the 80's, we build an appropriate Fredholm module for the magnetic $C^*$-algebra based on the magnetic Dirac operator which is the square root (à la Dirac) of t…
We consider a model of classical noncommutative particle in an external electromagnetic field. For this model, we prove the existence of generalized gauge transformations. Classical dynamics in Hamiltonian and Lagrangian form is discussed, in particular, the motion in the constant magnetic field is studied in detail.
We propose a noncommutative version of the Euclidean Lie algebra $E_2$. Several types of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems expressed in terms of generic combinations of the generators of this algebra are investigated. Using the breakdown of the explicitly constructed Dyson maps as a criterium, we identify the domains in the parameter space in which the Hamiltonians have real energy spectra and determine the exceptional points signifying the crossover into the different types of spontaneously broken PT-symmetric regions with pairs of complex conjugate eigenvalues. We find exceptional points whi…
In this paper we clarify and generalise previous work by Moser and Belbruno concerning the link between the motions in the classical Kepler problem and geodesic motion on spaces of constant curvature. Both problems can be formulated as Hamiltonian systems and the phase flow in each system is characterised by the value of the corresponding Hamiltonian and one other parameter (the mass parameter in the Kepler problem and the curvature parameter in the geodesic motion problem). Using a canonical transformation the Hamiltonian vector field for the geodesic motion problem is transformed into one wh…
We consider Feynman's path integral approach to quantum mechanics with a noncommutativity in position and momentum sectors of the phase space. We show that a quantum-mechanical system with this kind of noncommutativity is equivalent to the another one with usual commutative coordinates and momenta. We found connection between quadratic classical Hamiltonians, as well as Lagrangians, in their commutative and noncommutative regimes. The general procedure to compute Feynman's path integral on this noncommutative phase space with quadratic Lagrangians (Hamiltonians) is presented. Using this approa…
We derive the relativistic Hamiltonian of hydrogen atom in dynamical noncommutative spaces (DNCS or τ-space). Using this Hamiltonian we calculate the energy shift of the ground state and as well the [2P]_(1/2), [2S]_(1/2) levels. In all cases the energy shift depend on the dynamical noncommutative parameter τ. Using the accuracy of the energy measurement we obtain an upper bound for τ. We also study the lamb shift in DNCS. Both the levels [2P]_(1/2) and [2S]_(1/2) receive corrections due to dynamical noncommutativity of space which is in contrast to the non-dynamical noncommutative spaces (NDN…
We construct an approximation to field theories on the noncommutative torus based on soliton projections and partial isometries which together form a matrix algebra of functions on the sum of two circles. The matrix quantum mechanics is applied to the perturbative dynamics of scalar field theory, to tachyon dynamics in string field theory, and to the Hamiltonian dynamics of noncommutative gauge theory in two dimensions. We also describe the adiabatic dynamics of solitons on the noncommutative torus and compare various classes of noncommutative solitons on the torus and the plane.
We demonstrate that a non self-adjoint Hamiltonian of harmonic oscillator type defined on a two-dimensional noncommutative space can be diagonalized exactly by making use of pseudo-bosonic operators. The model admits an antilinear symmetry and is of the type studied in the context of PT-symmetric quantum mechanics. Its eigenvalues are computed to be real for the entire range of the coupling constants and the biorthogonal sets of eigenstates for the Hamiltonian and its adjoint are explicitly constructed. We show that despite the fact that these sets are complete and biorthogonal, they involve a…
We investigate a U(1) gauge invariant quantum mechanical system on a 2D noncommutative space with coordinates generating a generalized deformed oscillator algebra. The Hamiltonian is taken as a quadratic form in gauge covariant derivatives obeying the nonlinear Dolan-Grady relations. This restricts the structure function of the deformed oscillator algebra to a quadratic polynomial. The cases when the coordinates form the su(2) and sl(2,R) algebras are investigated in detail. Reducing the Hamiltonian to 1D finite-difference quasi-exactly solvable operators, we demonstrate partial algebraization…
We show that the principal part of the Dirac Hamiltonian in 3+1 dimensions emerges in a semi-classical approximation from a construction which encodes the kinematics of quantum gravity. The construction is a spectral triple over a configuration space of connections. It involves an algebra of holonomy loops represented as bounded operators on a separable Hilbert space and a Dirac type operator. Semi-classical states, which involve an averaging over points at which the product between loops is defined, are constructed and it is shown that the Dirac Hamiltonian emerges as the expectation value of…
In this work quantum physics in noncommutative spacetime is developed. It is based on the work of Doplicher et al. which allows for time-space noncommutativity. The Moyal plane is treated in detail. In the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics, some important points are explored, such as the formal construction of the theory, symmetries, causality, simultaneity and observables. The dynamics generated by a noncommutative Schrodinger equation is studied. We prove in particular the following: suppose the Hamiltonian of a quantum mechanical particle on spacetime has no explicit time dependen…
In order to evaluate the Feynman path integral in noncommutative quantum mechanics, we consider properties of a Lagrangian related to a quadratic Hamiltonian with noncommutative spatial coordinates. A quantum-mechanical system with noncommutative coordinates is equivalent to another one with commutative coordinates. We found connection between quadratic classical Lagrangians of these two systems. We also shown that there is a subclass of quadratic Lagrangians, which includes harmonic oscillator and particle in a constant field, whose connection between ordinary and noncommutative regimes can b…
The analog of the Kepler system defined on the Heisenberg group introduced by Montgomery and Shanbrom in [Fields Inst. Commun., Vol. 73, Springer, New York, 2015, 319-342, arXiv:1212.2713] is integrable on the zero level of the Hamiltonian. We show that in all other cases the system is not Liouville integrable due to the lack of additional meromorphic first integrals. We prove that the analog of the two-body problem on the Heisenberg group is not integrable in the Liouville sense.
In this paper we extensively study the notion of Hamiltonian structure for nonabelian differential-difference systems, exploring the link between the different algebraic (in terms of double Poisson algebras and vertex algebras) and geometric (in terms of nonabelian Poisson bivectors) definitions. We introduce multiplicative double Poisson vertex algebras (PVAs) as the suitable noncommutative counterpart to multiplicative PVAs, used to describe Hamiltonian differential-difference equations in the commutative setting, and prove that these algebras are in one-to-one correspondence with the Poisso…
We construct a model of spin-Hall effect on a noncommutative 4 sphere with isospin degrees of freedom (coming from a noncommutative instanton) and invariance under a quantum orthogonal group. The corresponding representation theory allows to explicitly diagonalize the Hamiltonian and construct the ground state; there are both integer and fractional excitations. Similar models exist on higher dimensional noncommutative spheres and noncommutative projective spaces.
